Tipu
Sultan,
also
known
as
the
Tiger
of
Mysore,
was
a
ruler
of
the
Kingdom
of
Mysore
in
India
from
1782
to
1799.
He
was
the
eldest
son
of
Sultan
Hyder
Ali
of
Mysore
and
his
wife
Fakhr-un-Nisa.
Tipu
Sultan
is
known
for
his
military
campaigns
against
the
British
East
India
Company,
particularly
the
Anglo-Mysore
Wars.
He
fought
several
battles
against
the
British
and
was
able
to
inflict
heavy
losses
on
them,
but
ultimately
he
was
defeated
in
the
Fourth
Anglo-Mysore
War
in
1799.
Tipu
Sultan
was
also
known
for
his
innovations
and
modernization
efforts
in
Mysore.
He
introduced
a
number
of
reforms
in
agriculture,
trade,
and
industry,
and
was
particularly
interested
in
developing
the
silk
industry
in
the
region.
He
was
also
a
patron
of
the
arts,
and
was
known
for
his
support
of
music,
poetry,
and
other
cultural
pursuits.
Despite
his
military
and
economic
achievements,
Tipu
Sultan's
rule
was
controversial,
particularly
with
regard
to
his
treatment
of
non-Muslims
in
his
kingdom.
He
has
been
both
praised
and
criticized
for
his
policies
and
actions,
and
his
legacy
continues
to
be
a
subject
of
debate
in
India.❣️❣️
