The exibition about the communism is very interesting. I suggest thst you should have it also in English. You can find really interesting things about archeology.

A place to visit, discover, think of and enjoy not for one day. From the very start of Tomis. Great much information. With great thanks to those, who established. I visited this museum three times. And today I enjoyed the exhibition of works of mosaics too. Opened recently. Great! The works and creations to be watched and admired once more and more. The icons, images and pictures ( May be, not just pictures, but very interesting and beautiful. Greatest thanks for those, who created all these wonders and organized it. Thanks to museum I deepened my knowledge in a lot of things and points. I deepened my knowledge of history of ancient world, of how people lived and travelled... And, the best 4,5 or 6D travells will never sibstitute the real one. And, still, in front of my eyes are images If Jesus Christ, Our Lady, Saints and Angels made of mosaics... Great, profound, educative and accomplished! Greatest thanks to all those who established this museum, enriches it and takes care of! contributed to and keep the museum. GREAT!!!!!

The museum was split into 3 floors, each withe their own theme and specific exhibition. Ground floor was housing the thesaurus, pieces of history, some of them more than 2000 years old, especially interesting were the recreted toombs and the roman jewellery. On the first floor there were many pottery and other historical artefacts, most of them found in the area. On the 2nd floor there was relatively new exhibition depicting Romania under the communist regime, 1947-1990. Many panels depicting the resistance movement, the work camps, political detainees, a prison cell and a collection of objects from the communist era. Definitely worth your time and attention.

Had a rushed visit due to time constraints, however a proper tour would take atleast an hour or more. Very ancient artefacts relating to the lift around Constanta, must visit.

Great collection of Roman and prehistoric artifacts. Nice to fill an hour or two. Gorgeous building that obviously needs some love, as it seems the roof tiles could drop any stormy minute, enforced by the sign at the outside main entrance "beware of falling cement pieces". But once inside we felt very safe and the staff were lovely. The mosaic next to the museum was a nice surprise and worth the extra charge.

Cool interwar building. Interesting, albeit a bit old-timey exhibitions focusing mainly on the Roman occupation of the region.

When I went, the group I was with was the only ones in the museum. We had a tour guide who is a Romanian history professor who was extremely knowledgeable about pretty much everything in the museum. She didn't speak English (but I speak Romanian) and I think they have English tour guides if you request a day before. The museum contains a great variety of pieces, from ancient beads and fertility gods to roman era statues and busts, not to mention the statue with the snake with hair. Everything has English translations underneath the Romanian. Anyone who is a history geek will love it here. Not only does it contain a wealth of history, the building itself and the area directly around it is beautiful and full of history.

Very nice museum, a little bit small but it's very interesting and the itema are still in very good condition even if they are 2000 years old. The part with the Roman exhibits is very "educative" to say like that. And another good this is that they have english, french translations too. I gladly recommend it if you are interested in arheology and history. Enjoy!

The information in the museum is provided in Romanian, English, French and some in German. It's quite nice to visit and find out more about the local ancestry. It is wheelchair accessible.

The building was constructed around the 1st world war and it held the city hall at first. Has several floors to visit for 20 lei the ticket. Majority of items are from tracian, greek and roman civilisations set here including Cucuteni and Hamangia cultures. Has also interesting details for the young from the comunist period like cenaclu flacara, treatment of those against the regime, channel Danube to Black Sea, various small exponates from the period, etc.

Decent museum by Romanian standards, but the collections are poor and the exhibits old and dusty.

Interesting. Not a hystory timeline here. Some artefacts made me think (wow!)

Wow, I've never seen such a big Roman mosaic. A must visit if you're in Constanta. It's a wonder that you can still see every detail from ancient times.

An awesome museum with lots of well laid out exhibits. Most of the descriptions are in English as well as Romanian. A must-visit place in Constanta. Also visit Histria!

Overall, it was an excellent experience. Items going back to 600 BC. Would definitely recommend it to anybody visiting the city.

What a place! A building of decaying grandeur stuffed with interesting and beautiful objects from various epochs of local history, from prehistory to the 20th century, although the focus is on antiquity. My personal highlight was the exhibition of antique glassware, sculpture and magnificent jewellery on the ground floor!! Most of the descriptive texts range from informative to quaintly nationalistic. The (more recent) exhibitions on Romanian communism and on the history of Black Sea maps are very good!

Low price, but small exposition. Fine visit if you are around.

The snake Glycon is away in Rome. The mosaic is closed for restoration. The museum looks better from the outside.

Ein von außen beeindruckendes Bauwerk. Wir hatten leider keine Zeit, um ins Museum rein zu gehen

Just full of jugs and jars. The only interesting bits re WW2 and communism- presented as text and not translated into any language. I dare think that Romanian history has much more to offer. Upside, English NUS card accepted

Beutyfull museum with a lot of expanates. Elaborated antiquity section with unique, very well preserved sculptures, good numismatic collection. Could have been done better if there were english translations of all the texts, not only chosen ones. But still it is a valuable experience because of the collection quality for anyone interested in history and archeology.

Interesting museum with lots of items found locally, some dating back 6,000 years. Well presented and exhibited. Most exhibits had English translations which was awesome. Only issue for me with mobility issues was the stairs to upper floors with no hand rail. Only made it to the first floor.

A prehistoric experience on multiethnic Dobrogea provence.. a nice one. I definitely recommend .

I enjoyed every single moment of my visit, rated it 5* to encourage such a great institution to make steps forth to understand the needs of the tourists whos intentions are to get the best out of their time & money invested. I would add that the items deserve more detailed informations. Another thig is that the items displayed cannot be properly pictured, as the display and all those attentioning stickers ruin the tryouts, despite the fact that there is a tax charged for photos. I was expecting some more weapons, barely saw a few blades.

    A must visit

Very good impressed. I enjoyed the time spent in the museum a lot. It is a very good place to spend time in Constanța when is cold outside, also with the kids. A new exibition about the recent history before 1989, at rhe 2nd floor wrecked me, especially a posters exibit dedicated to the disidents.

The five star experience is for the beautiful art and historical pieces. My daughter was very excited to be there. She didn't felt the sorrow for this beutiful bulding. The museum as a land mark is a beautiful majestic wreak....nobody is thinking to improve it somehow. It need improvements like the Black Sea Casino.... The old tombs outside they are filled with garbage; people with poor historical education throw plastic and paper waste inside those tombs. That's a shame.....nobody does nothing and that's sad, very sad.... But.....visit the museum it is a beautiful experience.

An impressive museum filled with all sorts of exhibits that represent every historical period of Romania. Definitely a worth-it experience.

  • 5/5 Cristiana A. 1 year ago on Google
The amount of archeological insight made for a fulfilling experience, and the short glimpse through history was sure to bring out the impact of other cultures on this region due in no smal part to its merchantile past. Also, they insisted that when (not if) we took photos, we not use the flash, which was really cute of them.

  • 3/5 Raluca R. 1 year ago on Google
Such a shame the total disarray this whole city was left in. The building of the museum needs restoration. The museum itself, the pieces you can find here are beautiful and it's a great history lesson for those interested.

    impressive structure but highly neglected

  • 5/5 Снежана . 2 years ago on Google
Wonderful. I visit it only for 40 minutes, and that was absolutely not enough. If you want to see everything properly, you need to have at least 2 or 3 hours. I will go back again definitely ❤️❤️❤️

  • 4/5 Leontin T. 2 years ago on Google
The museum hosts many artefacts thousands of years old. Potts, arrows and anchors are in dozens. Interesting to see how the many cultures influenced the history of the area. The adjacent building, in theory hosting mosaics, was cold and empty. So you could skip it.

😐 You can have a good time if you don't need to go to the bathroom, because there are only 2 public toilets, which are absolutely abysmal. I won't say anything about them, just make sure to find another way to take care of this before going to the beach. There are also no showers. The prices for the...
