Fort Santiago is a very famous tourist spot in Manila City. The place is significant due to its historical value. It was an old Spanish fortress built to guard and protect the old city of Manila from invaders. It was also used as arms storage and a sort of barracks. Today, some of its ruins were restored or reinforced to allow guest and visitors a chance to see and appreciate the colonial architecture and history during the Spanish occupation period. The place is very spacious and there is sufficient area for walking, picnics, and biking. There is also a museum inside in honor of the Philippines' national hero, Dr. Jose Rizal. It is a must see for anyone interested in history, the culture of the Philippines, or just to go out and bond with family and friends. It is very accessible by private or public vehicles. There is an entrance fee of about 75 pesos.

There is a huge garden here and many come for a picnic. Lots of places with distinct memories associated with WWII. This fort is one of the many places that keep the memory of the civilians who died during the WWII alive. Here, you get closer to the scary parts of the war by walking in caves and underground tunnels. This is a historical place and should be on the must see list in Manila.

Bit disappointed by our visit there. I can understand Filipinos being captivated by the history, but for me it just didn’t live up to expectations as there wasn’t a lot of interesting things to see. Didn’t expect to see modern girders holding up a number of walls. In fact the highlights for me were watching some Tik Tok videos, the bridge over the water and a few attractive trees. Probably better to visit in the evening and get more atmosphere with the lighting. 75 pesos entry fee and an optional tour for 1000 pesos. A discount can be negotiated when the fort is not busy.

This was a really fun experience for me, due to the fact I have been to similar forts such as Castillo San Marcos located at St.Augustine FL. This was just another amazing piece of history that I was so lucky to visit, and even has deep roots of Philippine history with their national hero Rizal. While this place is a pact with such history, a lot of dark history. Which is mentioned, but not to full detail, in which some of that history is pretty deep. Which I get it, some of the pictures alone, especially those in the dungeon are rough to see. But it's incredible, and to me one of the must sees if you are coming out to visit. Yes there is a small price to pay to see it, but it’s definitely worth it.

Fort Santiago in Manila is a captivating historical site, and visiting in the evenings offers a unique and enchanting experience. The interplay of lights brings the fortress to life, casting a warm glow on its storied walls and pathways. Amidst the ancient structures, the illuminated flower trees add a touch of natural beauty, creating a tranquil atmosphere that perfectly complements the rich history that Fort Santiago holds. The evening visit provides a delightful blend of history and aesthetics, making it a memorable exploration of this significant cultural landmark.

When in Manila, Philippines you should come stop to see Fort Santiago. If you like museums and history this is one stop for you. But even if you don’t, it’s one of the historical places you’ll come to see in the Philippines. You can spend a good half of the day here. Although, they are still in the process of restoring some spots, you can see that it has been maintained. The architectural structure and characteristics are still visible from back in the day. Here at Fort Santiago you can take a tour guide, a ride on a horse carriage, have some food, and shop at their cute little stores. The staff are very friendly and the entrance fee is close to nothing when you convert to US Dollars. We really enjoyed our time here. Very educational. You can learn about the history of Jose Rizal ( a national hero). And see photographs of the past.

Fort Santiago is a citadel built in 1571 – since then it became one of the most history-rich places in Manila. Shifting control from Spain, to Britain, America and even Japan, Fort Santiago has seen the terrible loss of many lives throughout years of war and sieges – most notably holding Dr. José Rizal imprisoned before his execution in 1896. Within these walls, there is so much to see, but luckily it is all marked - with names, dates and brief history – so just stroll and peruse at your leisure. For us, we were most captured with the dungeons (originally for munitions storage, over 600 rotting corpses were discovered after wwII) and the iMake History Fortress with scale Lego models of the most famous buildings in Manila.

Last year I went here twice! Last July and last December. Last July was pure photo shooting. Last December, there was a fund raising and we got a tour guide explaining and telling stories about things around Fort Santiago. Aside from the nice view and spacious venue, there are things that are preserved well that tell stories. Also, the guards wore the old type of guardia civil uniforms, they are refreshing to see!🤩 There is so much stories to tell. I hope Fort Santiago will be one of the tool in learning our History, students will also enjoy while learning.🤘

I’m glad that places like this still exist in Manila in this day and age. It homes important details in our rich Filipino history. Inside, you can visit the Rizal Museum, which I find so inspiring and enlightening. Of course, there are also beautiful spots that are lovely to take pictures of. There are also stores and stalls here where you can buy souvenirs, toys, and even food. Bringing an umbrella is a wise thing to do. Regular tickets cost P75.

Dr. Jose Rizal will always be my favorite National Hero of the Philippines. His life in Fort Santiago is considered his last moments before his execution in Bagumbayan (Rizal Park now). The place is so relaxing overlooking the Pasig River but still you can feel the vibes of one of the saddest part of the history. A lot of things happened in this place that only the wall of Fort Santiago can tell.

One of the tourists attractions in Manila that located in Intramuros area. Totally love the architecture of this fort. Fort Santiago basically full of historical buildings in one area, there's many remains old buildings that really beautiful and maybe usually used as photography object. I visited during evening till nighttime (since going there on hot sunny afternoon is basically burning yourself alive). Totally love the experience and definitely recommend this place to be visited while in Manila.

It's like a walk in the past though there are a few spaces that they already closed, like tunnels. But Fort Santiago is really nice, a few museums inside. There are benches you can idly sit by to adore the place. Though bring water with you. Wear mask and keep safe.

One of the sites that you shouldn’t miss when you’re visiting Intramorus. The place gives a unique experience of history. Several sections were closed that day, maybe because of the rain. There are areas that are slippery too.

Liked it. Worth a visit for its history. Surrounding areas also good. The only downside was it was hot, so bringing an umbrella will help. Some parts have uneven surface, so make sure be carefully and use proper shoes if you visit here.

Came here on a Sunday while visiting Manila for the first time. Cost 75 pesos per adult to enter. It was very hot to walk about but we had a great time learning about Jose Rizal and the history of Fort Santiago. Curated quite well and it’s always wonderful to see pieces of history like this preserved and curated well for tourists to learn more about Manila and the Filipino history.

The fee to enter this place is really cheap, and you can easily get there by taking public transportation or joining paid tours with sidecars or horse-drawn carriages. The fortress is in a really interesting spot and has a special historical importance. It was supposed to be torn down, but luckily, it was saved and is now a wonderful landmark. The brick walls, cannons, and moat are in great condition and make you feel like you're stepping back in time. It's an exciting adventure where you can experience history firsthand.

Worth the visit if you are either local or a tourist. I recommend one of the bicycle tour guides, because the place would take maybe 8 hours on foot. A bicycle tour and entrance fees will cost you about 1000-1300 pesos all up, but it is more than worth it to see this rich part of Manila's history

It was good, paying for the entrance though wasn't too good at all. I understand that they need funds for the upkeep of the place, but I think the government should be handling that stuff. It can be crowded during Sundays (we went there on Sunday), but it was still manageable. The place was overall good and beautiful. I defo recommend it for people who have an interest in Philippine history.

Fort Santiago, as many already know, is a popular tourist attraction in the Philippines. But what it is now—a beautiful and remarkable tourist spot—owes it to the horrifying stories that took place centuries ago. And these stories are not like any other as these will definitely give you goosebumps. Hint: it’s like you’re starring in a horror or thriller film.

Very nice interesting Spanish old town with beautiful buildings, courtyards and restaurants. It's a little tiring that you can hardly walk through the streets in peace, at least when you enter the district, because you're constantly asked if you want a tourist guide on a bike or mobility scooter. Carriage rides are also offered. But the people are very friendly and the advantage is that they quickly show you the most beautiful and hidden corners and also have insider tips. If you are traveling alone or as a couple, the tour guide will also be happy to take photos of you with beautiful sights.

Definitely a place everyone should visit at least once. The multilayered history of the fort is incredibly important, and there are helpful signs available to share it with you (if you decide not to pay for a tour guide). This and the National Museum are incredible treasures, and should not be missed!

Super important historic sight, representing the cross section of several nations strongholds over hundreds of years. I read the self guided tour during a 9 hour layover in Manila. It's worth visiting, but the signs don't really go into too much history. They explain allot of what it is, but not why it's significant. But it's cheap, and the side shops are decent, and it's a historically significant place.

This historical site is number one tourist attraction in Manila. It was built by Spain in 1571. During World War 11 and Spainish Empire, a lot of people died here in prison. Philippine national hero Jose Rizal, also known as Mahatma Gandhi of Philippine , was imprisoned here before execution in 1896. The entry fees are 75 pesos for adults and 50 pesos for students and senior citizens. It is open from from 9 AM to 11 PM from Monday to Friday and 6 AM to 11 PM on Saturdays and Sundays. Last entry at PM. Not to be missed…

Fort Santiago located in Manila Bay. This is a place where the Spanish architectural style remains. The surrounding buildings are also enough to make you feel like you are in Spain. Because the weather is very hot, it is good to use bicycles or horse-drawn carriages nearby, but it is more fun and memorable to walk around the area. Of course, finding a spot to take pictures is much easier by riding a carriage.

We had our first visit and we really enjoyed it. It is the best place to visit if you are a history buff. It offers historical insights and you can see so many really cool things. Give yourself at least about 2 hours to be able to see everything. Visiting Fort Santiago is like going through the different phases of Philippine history. Just enjoy walking around with friends or family and not necessary to book a tour.

Very large and historical place to visit. Entry is cheap and quick. The site is very large so there is no crowding whatsoever. There is a lot of great history about Jose Rizal and Manila in the fort. After you enter there are a few shops selling souvenirs and refreshments that are comfortable and fairly priced. There is an interesting Lego exhibit of the old churches and buildings that used to be in Manila that were most destroyed by the Japanese when they invaded. There is also access to the prison where many people died and a mass grave so be respectful when in those areas. (There is signage to remind you) I spent about three hours here and loved every inch of it.

Great historical Manila landmark The grounds and fort open at 9 am. Allow 1- 2 hours Entrance fee is a reasonable 70 pesos , 50 for seniors and disabled. Grounds are expansive and situated along the river. There are plentiful signs and placards 🪧 with give brief explanations of the various sights on the Fort Santiago grounds. Grounds are well cared for by attendants. The fort complex is located in central Manila and is about a 45 minute taxi ride from the airport which should run about 300 to 500 pesos ( depending on your negotiation skills ). Restrooms are limited. Handicap ♿️ doable but there are several places where stairs are optional. There are pedicabs and horse carriages available for hire. Guides are available. Parking can be a challenge. Final take....recommended

There's not much exciting to see in Manila but if you are into history, visiting parks, walking, biking and just communing with nature, this is the perfect place for you. The entrance fee is very affordable and it's easier to find through public commute and even paid tours via sidecar or horse-drawn carriage. They have relaxing trees, multiple benches and comfort rooms. Do you want to just lay down on the grass? No problem! Picnic is possible! You are into history? They have a mini museum and sometimes they also hold events there. They do offer a group tour to make the most of your visit. Security guards also impressively wear their period time uniforms. They do also have food stores and memorabilia centers inside the fort. The next time you are in the area, come visit!

I've been here twice already. Expect line to be long but all worth it. In hot seasons, make sure to be hydrated since it will be very hot. Php 75 regular entrance. Food selections inside the fort. This is one of the most historic places in Manila and you should not miss this while here. Nice views of Pasig during sunset. Dungeons are now open and it is really the highlight of my visit here. This used to be closed the last time I was here. Place is full of history, and it excites history buffs like me. Very informative. Nicely preserved. As usual be a responsible tourist, and pay proper respects when due. For some people, the dungeons may be hard for them due to its notoriety during world war 2. Respect the hallowed grounds. Will definitely be back here when there's a chance!

Fort Santiago is the unmissable part of intramuros, It's a good experience to walk among the ruins while learning about the local history, especially of Jose Rizal. The park is well made and has a few stores and cafés. I hope they continue to improve and do their best to preserve and restore as much as they can. PS: Waiting time might be long during busy days, so I advise you to buy tickets in advance if you can.

Fort Santiago is good place if you love our country's history. The place houses the cell of Jose P. Rizal the country's national hero, this is where Rizal spent his last hours. The Museo ni Rizal is inside the Fort Santiago which was restored after being damaged during the WWII to preserved some of Rizal's memorabilia and writings.

(Translated by Google) It was built as a fortress to protect Intramuros, the political center of the Spanish rule. It was used as a prison during World War II, and many lives were lost in prisons that were submerged in water at high tide. There is a Rizal museum on the premises, where the history of the Filipino hero Rizal as the father of Philippine independence and the statues and footprints of the last moment are exhibited. Love the new get-up of this place! Indeed the transformation being made is lovely, worth it and amazing. I saw way back then how this place has been used as a toilet by street dwellers. It was dirty, smelly and most of all a very un-inviting place. And a clean up has been made right then and there and beautification has been launch. Now this place is one of the many places herein Manila to behold during day and even in night time....

I have been to Intramuros for so many times but this was my 1st time to enter Fort Santiago. The place is clean and labeled properly. I don't like some modern sculptures on some spaces in the Garden as its presence is totally off to the natural beauty of the place. Hopefully they would be able to keep it in shape for a long time. There's nothing much to see, so if you expect too much you get easily bored. But hey, for the price of 70 pesos as an entrance it wouldn't be that bad. I hope they would soon let the tourist explore the walls of Intramuros as it still remain unaccessible to the public. I'm referring to the upper walls where you previously can walk and explore the place.

Fort Santiago is part of the defensive complex of the Walled City also known as the Intramuros. It located in the northwest corner of Intramuros and is adjacent to the mouth of the Pasig River. There are dungeons present in this structure which used to serve as holding cells for prisoners of the ruling authorities and dates back to the Spanish times. Fort Santiago was also heavily damaged during the Battle of Manila in 1945.

Great for everyone who wants to learn about the 16th century military defense structure, stands witness to the valor and heroism of the Filipino through the centuries. This famous historical landmark makes certain areas ideal for open air theatre, picnics and promenades. A great overview of the Walled City. It is also a smoke-free zone. Also if possible to bring umbrella and have drinking water to avoid heatstroke.

✓Entrance Fee Php75 Adult; Php50 Students(bring ID) ✓In our case, we have our Guide kuya Mario to help us around Intramuros that's why our trip here in Fort Santiago was very informative and great. ✓Guides are available mostly at Casa Manila, they are pedicab drivers who offers 30mins trip for 250. They will take you around Intramuros in Pedicab. But only 2 person can fit so...The trip will be filled with informative stories so it will be awesome 😉 ✓If you don't want Guides and you know the roundabout of Intramuros then you can Rent Bicycles at Casa Manila (see the photo for rates). ✓Picnic (practice CLAYGO) ✓Open space ✓Benches ✓Bring your handkerchief or face towel for your Dungeon trip. ✓Guards are sure friendly (you can ask them politely to have a picture with them or take one for you👌but I guess only on weekends they are present) ✓There was this live singer when we visited, he was awesome. ✓Best time to visit around 3pm onwards, so it wouldn't be too hot. ✓Also be aware of the overcharged Tricycle Drivers. Like literally he was charging us 100per person with just a 3mins. trip to Casa Manila. We had been hustled if it wasn't for our Guide and some Guards who reached to us and helped us. ✓For those who are commuting, you can ride a jeepney from Recto. Ride the jeep that has signage of Intramuros and it'll drop you exactly at Intramuros arch.

I love history and it is a great honor to visit a place like this. This is my first time in Intramuros and the first thing that I want to visit is Fort Santiago. Anyways the ambiance is great, the guards are kind and approachable. I learn something, and experience the feeling of being able to witness and touch the evidence of the past. This is not my last visit and I will surely visit again.💗💗💗

It was a surreal experience visiting a long standing structure with such a challenging history. I enjoyed the Jose Rizal museum & sitting down on a park bench at Plaza de Armas whilst listening to a talented musician busking with blue skies was a good way to take in the surroundings. Overall it was good to learn a little more about the history of the Philippines.

One of the main sites in Manila. Go see for sure. The world has many better fortresses to see, and one would never come to Mamila to see it, but if you are here don't miss it, but don't expect too much .

As a History buff I enjoyed my visit and will come back in the future. I spent about 90 minutes at Fort Santiago, but I visited in the middle of a hot day. I will come back next time in the morning or late afternoon. I walked from Rizal Park after visiting there, it's doable but a lot of people probably would not do the same. Ticket price was 75 Pesos as of FEB 2024, discounts available for student and seniors with appropriate ID.

Fort Santiago, built in 1593, is a citadel built by Spanish navigator and governor for the new established city of Manila in the Philippines. The defense fortress is part of the structures of the walled city of Manila referred to as Intramuros.

Visited as the last stop of the half day old and new city tour run by Grayline. The ticket price was included in the tour cost. History fascinates inside the fort, on the well decorated ground, and at the corners of structures which are well preserved or in the museum. There’s a clean restroom inside, couple of small cafe, gift shop and a tourist information center. However, the gift shop just outside the exit gate at the left is good with elaborate collection of many items. Overall, a great place to get close to modern Philippine history.

This is the second time that I have visited Fort Santiago. I was able to visit the heritage and brought back a lot of memories. A lot of changes have been made too. Dungeons are open now too.

Interesting fortress location, originally slated to be torn down, but kept open as a historic landmark. There are some trinket shops, food and drinks, and even a restroom onsite. However you will find the restoration of this facility to be fairly minimal due to the fact that it is open to the public free of charge. You can tour the prison facility and other areas which are deemed safe to travel through. You could spend longer, however it would only occupy a couple hours of your time for the average person. A primitive golf course can be found next door to it.

Fort Santiago is a must-see attraction for anyone visiting Manila. The fort has a rich history dating back to the Spanish colonial era, and the exhibits and artifacts inside provide a fascinating insight into the city's past. The brick walls, cannons, and moat are all well-preserved, and you'll feel like you're exploring a piece of history. The highlight of the fort is the Rizal Shrine, which honors the life and work of the Philippines' national hero, Dr. Jose Rizal. Aside from the historical significance of Fort Santiago, it's also a beautiful spot to take a stroll. The gardens inside are well-maintained and provide a peaceful respite from the bustling city outside. There are also plenty of spots to take pictures, including a bridge that offers a stunning view of the River. Overall, Fort Santiago is a great place to visit for history buffs and anyone interested in learning more about Manila's past. The admission fee is affordable, and the experience is well worth it

Fort Santiago - A Captivating Journey into Manila's Rich History I recently had the pleasure of visiting Fort Santiago in Manila, and I must say, it was an absolutely captivating experience. This historic fortress takes you on a remarkable journey through time, immersing you in the rich history of the Philippines. From the moment you step through the gates, you're transported to a bygone era. The well-preserved structures, cobblestone pathways, and lush greenery create an atmosphere that is both awe-inspiring and tranquil. As you walk along the walls, you can almost feel the stories that echo through the centuries. The exhibits and displays within the fort provide a fascinating insight into the country's past. The museum showcases artifacts, photographs, and informative panels that shed light on the struggles and triumphs of the Filipino people. The attention to detail and the comprehensive storytelling make it a truly educational and thought-provoking experience. One of the highlights of my visit was exploring the dungeons, where national hero Dr. Jose Rizal was held captive. It's a haunting experience that reminds you of the sacrifices made by those who fought for freedom. The Rizal Shrine, located within the fort, pays homage to his life and legacy, providing a deeper understanding of his profound impact on the nation. Beyond its historical significance, Fort Santiago offers breathtaking views of the Pasig River and the surrounding cityscape. The well-maintained gardens and peaceful courtyards provide a welcome respite from the bustling streets of Manila. It's a place where you can reflect, find solace, and appreciate the beauty of your surroundings. The staff at Fort Santiago deserve commendation for their warm hospitality and extensive knowledge. They are always ready to answer questions, share anecdotes, and make your visit even more meaningful. Their passion for preserving and promoting Philippine history is evident in their interactions and dedication. Whether you're a history enthusiast, a culture lover, or simply someone looking to delve into the soul of Manila, Fort Santiago is an absolute must-visit. The underground dungeon is both amazing and terrifying. Couldn't imagine being held captive there, such a nightmarish time in Manila. It's good that they were able to preserve the place well

It’s a historical site. I think every Japanese should visit there and learn what we Japanese have done in the past because we don’t learn enough history in schools. It’s interesting to know it.

I walked from Rizal park. It was too far and hot. Ticket is 75p but if you have voucher from Klook it is more convenient. It is a must visit place in Manila. I recommend to visit this place in evening. the staffs were kind and friendly.

There's an entrance fee. This place is cleaner than what I remembered. The Jose Rizal Museum is closed on Mondays so we couldn't check that out. The tunnel was pretty cool though, I don't remember that being open when I was a kid.

It was a very good place to go on dating with someone you love, there’s no hidden entrance fee to access some historical places. I been here with my one and only love.
