Rizal Shrine at Fort Santiago honors the Philippines'national hero, Dr. Jose Rizal. There is a big statue of the man in the middle of the fort as well as a museum. There is no entrance fee, but knowledge is priceless and the bulk of information you will get about this wise man is priceless. The museum has almost everything about Rizal, from his early childhood, family life, education, love of arts and sciences, love life, accomplishments, and death. You can find artifacts, reprints, memorabilias, and videos that provide information about this Filipino hero. The museum is inside Fort Santiago so you need to acess it first. You will need about an hour to tour the whole museum and really understand what it showcases.

It is under renovation now. I hope they'll finish it soon because visitors are fitting on very small rooms and interior is like an abandoned building. This should be world-class service as this will reflect how we take care of education and research. Good thing is the ID can be claimed point of applicstion.

I learned facts here that I’ve never learned from my history/Rizal class back in school. Or maybe I haven’t read that much. Well, it’s never too late to learn.

The shrine is located in former military barracks that were reconstructed and adopted to serve as a museum in 1953. Most revered national hero dr Jose Rizal spent his last days imprisoned there before his public execution on December 29, 1896. The museum showcases Jose Rizal’s prison cell, his trial room. Among the exhibits are the alcohol stove in which he hid his poem Mi ultimo adios, his vertebrae (where the bullet hit him), his coat, hat, case and more. Worth visiting. The entrance is free once you are in Fort Santiago.

Unfortunately the library was closed for visitors and tourists in the period that I stayed in Manila. The staff was kind and helpful. They permitted me to just get in and take some pictures from far without disturbing. It looked to me like a clean , quiet and ordinate place for reading books and doing some research.

It's sad that the place is not well-maintained but even if that's the case, the people in here are very kind and accommodating. I hope that in the future, the government will pay attention to our National Library.

Rizal Shrine at Fort Santiago preserves the memory and the last few moments of the life of Dr. Jose Rizal as he was executed by the Spanish authorities in December of 1896. This was the facility wherein he was detained and it houses memorabilia related to him and is usually also a venue for other events pertaining to the country's history. This is one of the many shrines that is associated with the Filipino patriot - the other two of which is the Rizal Shrine in Calamba and also the Rizal Shrine in Dapitan.

The only Government-run establishment that made me reach the highest satisfaction from the gate, the smiling people around accomodating us, the books were updated, the clean and calm surroundings plus the technology that they offer to easily locate the books you need. Thumbs up for a job well done NLP !!! ❤️ Now I have the perfect place to visit in manila ❤️❤️❤️

First and foremost, the overall registration fee is php 100. The library is under renovation, thank god. It so sad to see the building full with knowledge and history rotting. At least the government is doing something although not enough. I hope they fully improve the the building that it would look and feel modern. Right now, because of the renovation, some content can't be accessed. The librarians were very courteous and would help you as much as they could.

(Translated by Google) A symbolic place for Filipinos I gave 5 stars because in my opinion this small museum deserves a visit to learn about the life, works and death of the most famous national hero of the Philippines. In 1896 he was killed by the Spanish colonizers because he was accused of conspiracy to have founded the youth movement "League of the Philippines", which spread freedom of thought and autonomy. 120 years after his death, in these days there are celebrations to commemorate him. The most symbolic place linked to José Rizal is found in Intramuros in the "Rizal Shrine", where I visited his last prison before being shot. Filipinos come here as a pilgrimage. I filippini vengono qui come in pellegrinaggio.

No Entrance Fee. Not a big museum but there's plenty to learn and see inside. Don't need to leave your bag to the guards, there's no baggage counter here unlike other museum, you can carry them inside. Their rules indicate that taking video is not allowed. I included the rules and the maps of the museum on the photos attached. Enjoy your trip everyone.

All the details of Jose Rizal you could learn it here. His biography, his clothes, his publication, his struggles, his compassions. How beautifully talented he is, as a writer, a doctor of difficult specialty which is optalmologist, a biologist. This man has become a myth for the country, his name and face bear in almost everyday life of Filipino, on its banknotes, coin, posters, publications, sculptures, cigarettes, streets, library, building, etc... you name it.

Needs to do an upgrade. I mean the place is inside fort Santiago and they are already doing rehabilitation, but the inside of the museum also needs an upgrade. It is great that we have items used by Jose Rizal but there could be a better way to display these items to tell a more human story of our national hero. Recommend this place to history buffs. The inside of the museum has restroom btw and it is fully air-conditioned.
