They have an interesting collection from paleolithic thru bronze age times. Including one of the biggest "coffee" cups ever. As you'll learn from visiting the museum there are probably 50 or more sites within 35 or 40 miles of Valencia including numerous caves inhabited from as much as 300,000 years ago. Like many if the museums in Valencia it only costs 2€ at the most, with various discounts depending on age, etc. It was very quiet, not that busy. Nice atmosphere and a lot of educational material. Worth a visit.

(Translated by Google) A shame With how easy it is to design an accessible tour ... They force you to go up and down stairs. I highly doubt they comply with CTE and accessibility laws. Plus, they waste everyone's time going up and down ladders ... (Original) Una pena. Con lo fácil que es diseñar un recorrido accesible... Te obligan a subir y bajar escaleras. Loved the serenity of the museum on a Sunday which is also free. Don’t take large bags. Suggest starting at the top and going in one direction until dropping to the next floor. Then into a beautiful garden

If you don't speak advanced Catalan or Spanish don't bother coming. There are English explanations of the room / theme but not of the exhibits. I ask the curator to get the guards at every entrance to guide visitors to these stands. It will vastly improve their experience. The temp exhibition is / was in English and Spanish. Great rich collection let down by lack of international translation (English/French etc), so pick up a sheet. The temporary exhibiition of early, bronze to post Roman Galician culture was very interesting.

This museum was amazing!!! Don't let other reviews put you off if you are English speaking. The museum had more than enough info in English for us (info sheets) and the temp exhibition was in English. If you're interested in human prehistory this is the place to go. Their artists/curators are extremely creative and everything has been laid out so beautifully and artistically. What a pleasant experience. We went on the weekend expecting to pay 2 EUR but it was free!

Pretty large museum, very interesting for people interested in Prehistoria (and Ethnology, which museum is accessible there too). It's free to enter there, and very calm. A lot to learn and see there.

This place is HUGE, so if you are a fan of ancient history, don't even think of doing it in one visit. Probably requires some previous knowledge to be interesting; for me, the history of the human race and early tool-making offered lots of new insight, while some other areas (where I feel less at home to start with) remained dry and distant. Then again, does everything have to be entertaining in the first place? This museum is for those who actually want to know.

Extremely well presented and interesting museum on the stone age and bronze age peoples that lived around Valencia. The section on cave paintings and rock carvings alone was worth hunting this museum up. It also touches on most other eras of local history as well. The section on the 1900s, was half history museum and half art museum. Very well done!

Valencian museum of prehistory is quite fine. Entrance is 2 euros from Monday to Friday but on weekend it’s free. There is no queue, very quiet and nice place. If you are really interested in history and old stuff, it’s a nice place to go. You can also visit the museum of ethnology together with this museum.

Sunday free entrance. This museum is located in the heart of the old town. Everything inside is modern art, also some installations. The administration use to change the collections every time, so, never is the same. But I think they could be better work with more pieces. According to my experience, is the best museum in Valencia. Enjoy the visit.

2€ entrance fee was totally worth it! The only thing I felt sad was it was quite lack of English information. The small map in English was not enough to fully enjoy exhibition.

A very enlightening experience. You get to see coins, statues, artifacts, epitaphs, from BC eras which make you think about how fast life is. Also some musings on how Valencia tourism has brought some elements of the culture forward and some elements back. We went around 6pm and were rushing to get to the end of the museum since it closes at 8pm. Maybe spend about 3-4 hours here to get to appreciate it. Also if you don't speak Spanish - you can try the Google Translate app as it has a camera which can translate the non-English captions.

From prehistoric to modern days in Valencia the museum shows the different eras. Almost nothing had a label in English so some of the rooms were really boring when you dont understand what you are seeing.

Excellent museum, focusing on the early history of Valencia and its development as culture changed. All the signs are in Castellano or Valenciano, so be prepared with Google Lens if you don’t read either.

  • 4/5 George L. 9 months ago on Google
Lovely prehistoric museum - massive and was free for us to enter. There are lots of high quality exhibits as well as some interactive things for children. Good air conditioning for hot days and clean toilets. Not many exhibits are in English (a small amount are) - vast majority are in Valencian and Spanish which was okay for me but not so great for my friends who only spoke English or other languages.

Except the lack of English translations the museum is really good. Focus of Iberian antiquity and interesting temporary exhibitions. Now (until February) there is a Visigothic Valencia on display. Nice.

This is a wonderful museum. It's quiet and not crowded and the displays are well lit and informative. Inside the museum complex, in a courtyard is a spectacular Byzantine Church that was built in the 19th century which opens for free concerts and events for children. The museum is quite a contrast with the visual world of El Barrio Carmen, where some of the ugliest graffiti in the world is on display.

  • 5/5 db (. 10 months ago on Google
Neither the undistinguished entrance or uninspired entry area adequately indicate the rich extent & diversity of the collection beyond. Displays are innovative & informative, whether one is fluent in Spanish or not. One of the top highlight offerings for any cultural visit to Valencia.

  • 4/5 Nikhos G. 11 months ago on Google
Fantastic collection. Would have been a 5, but unfortunately, most displays do not have a description in English, and many of the plaques are difficult to read because of the text color and reflective background.

(Translated by Google) An easy-to-visit museum with adequate capacity control for the covid times we live in. The building is old with a cloistered garden in the center. Inside the building you can visit different museums. I lean towards Prehistory, which takes a journey from the beginning of time to the Romanization of the Valencian community. You have many original pieces and it is very careful, I highly recommend your visit and more these days that you cannot leave the city (Original) Un museo fácil de visitar y con un control de aforo adecuado para los tiempos de covid que vivimos. Very nice place. Was here three times. Very upset this summer, that part of the halls is closed to the public! Much of what was previously closed now! On the ground floor there used to be a cafe, now it does not work either. The feeling of abandonment, neglect. The third time there were the only visitors. Very sad. Admission is inexpensive 2 euros for adults and 1 euro for children. Parking is problematic. P. S. Add that upsets and annoys MOST OF ALL: all the information is written in Catalan, and duplicated barely visible in Spanish Castilian. In English, NO WORDS. Why are you depriving yourself of visitors? You have them, and so is negligible.

  • 5/5 David W. 5 years ago on Google
We were very surprised by the breadth and depth of this museum's scope, and while we planned on zipping through within an hour we actually stayed for three! Outstanding interpretation, artifacts, and displays. Plenty of literature in English, for those curious.
