Great collection. However, the organization of the exhibition is terrible. Everything is just spilled around to be seen by the public. Very basic explanations (when they exist) and zero effort in making a logical and interesting distribution. Basically, you finish the visit having learned almost nothing new and understanding very little from all those incredible rich cultures and period.

Amazing exhibits covering the rich history of Colombia's peoples. Highly recommend a visit, give yourself at least 3 hours (closes at 6pm) and the audio guide is well worth the extra money as it provides additional explanations of the pieces and points out features we wouldn't have noticed based on the written explanations alone.

Excellent museum about the history of gold and other metals from the greater Colombia area. The exhibits are well done with Spanish and English information. The artifacts are impressive and extensive. It's a good 3 full floor of exhibits plus focuses on mysticism and the people of Colombia.

Free to the admission on Sundays. A must see for anyone visiting the area to learn some interesting things about Colombian history, and precious metals in general. The museum is an epicenter of archeological treasures, offering an impressive display of shimmering gold artifacts that survived the Spanish conquest. Explanations are in both English and Spanish. I really enjoyed the Cosmology & Symbolism exhibit, as well as the dramatic showmanship of the mini performance in the Offerings & Shamanism section.

Absolutely work visiting. Entrance just 5k COP ~ 1.25 USD. They close at 18h but you can stay a bit longer like till 18:30. I recommend 1h to see super fast or 2h if want to read and understand everything. There is a lot of stuff there and explanations too, there are 4 floors! They also have bathroom and a restaurant.

Great experience learning about the gold and metal history of Colombia. The exhibit flow very well, descriptions are in Spanish and English and there is also an audio guide option. I spent about two hours here because I like to read most if not all of the descriptions. There are also a couple video exhibits. Entrance from Tuesday to Saturday is 4,000 COL. On Sunday, it is free. Closed on Monday.

An iconic place. Amazing artifacts. The place around looks really unsafe, but inside everything is very good. Unfortunately they don’t have audio guides (understand by covid) but any other digital options are not available (podcast, app, or web audio in smart phones) If you attend on Sunday, they don’t have people explaining, also the web page and email reservation told us that we will have a guide, but not the page did not clarify and the museum workers said that on Sunday they don’t have visitors guide. The museum is free you don’t need to pay. We have an Amazing cultural story to tell, but all the exposition is to see gold and metal views. They could work in a more interesting activities to share the story.

One of the best equipped museums. A lot of unique stuff, very nicely displayed, everything explained, and you could also buy a ticket that comes with a small audio device with more detail explanation of every unit. I recommend seeing it.

This is beautiful and it’s a must! A lot of very organized history with beauty and care in every detail. It took me 2 hours and a half to see the 4 floors and it was quite enough. The ticket cost 5,000COP as a foreigner and I would strongly recommend getting a coffee by the floor -1.

Nice exhibition, if you have a fascination for gold you should come here. The normal admission price is 3000 cop, but during the Covid 19 pandemic admission was for free, but a online reservation was necessary to be admitted. When I got there, I was informed about it and made the online reservation on site, and I was given an appointment for two hours later, as it was starting to rain heavily, I decided to wait there and not go anywhere else and was let in after 1 hour someone dropped out who made a reservation.

A very expansive, well displayed history of mankind’s fascination with gold. This place isn’t just jewelry to look at, each floor has wonderful displays which have great flow. Every section tells a story of the time period on display including how the piece was likely made, how it evolved, and who might of been wearing it. It was especially nice that entry was quite cheap and that all the placards were in both Spanish and English. Overall a great experience I’d recommend to anyone!

Yesterday I visited The Gold Museum in Bogotá. It is a must-visit for anyone interested in the history and culture of Colombia. The museum displays a selection of pre-Columbian gold and other metal alloys, such as Tumbaga, and contains the largest collection of gold artifacts in the world. The museum was founded in 1939 when the Poporo Quimbaya was acquired by the Central Bank of Colombia. The Poporo is a device used by natives to store small amounts of lime produced from sea shells. The museum’s collection has grown to include more than 55,000 individual pieces of gold, many of which were crafted into necklaces, ornaments, and sacred items by Colombia’s indigenous communities. I throughly enjoyed the collection and content in this great museum!

If you are in Bogota, Colombia and interested in museum. This is a place to go in Candelaria. The entrance fee is free. If you are interested in gold and the history this is a place to go too. So many things to see and take photos. I am sure by the end of the tour you have enough photos to share will all the gold inside this museum. A must see if you are in Bogota, Colombia.

Amazing artefacts, although beware your ingress and egress, Bogota is pretty safe these days, but still touristy areas are catnip. I love that Colombia museums let you take all the photos you want, after all the people here love to do so, and it’s all GOLD, so what else do you need? The national treasure resides within.

(Translated by Google) It is impressive to come to this place and know our history, the roots recommended to visit and tour, it guarantees an excellent experience and great learning. In December 1939, the Banco de la República acquired the Quimbaya poporo, a piece of extraordinary beauty with which the collection began, which has around 59,479 objects including goldsmiths, textiles, stone and ceramics from the most varied archaeological sites. from Colombia. After a decade of work started in 1998 and an investment of 20 million euros, the museum was expanded and renovated in October 2008. In 1940 the first exhibition was held in the Bank's boardroom; in 1947, it was assigned a room so that it could be appreciated by special guests and, definitely, in 1959, the museum opened its doors to the general public. The current headquarters, an own building for the Gold Museum in Bogotá, inaugurated in 1968, was in charge of the Colombian architect Germán Samper Gnecco, it is the fifth headquarters that houses the collection of pre-Hispanic metallurgy started in the late 1930s by the Bank of the Republic. This building obtained the National Prize for Architecture in 1970. It stands out for its facade with matte marble veneer, of modern architecture, representing a white box that floats on a glass first floor. National Geographic magazine published this July 2, 2018 on its website a list of the 16 best history museums in the world. The list is impressive, there is the Auschwitz-Birkenau Museum, in Poland, dedicated to the memory of the victims of the Nazi holocaust and the whole of the Vatican Museums, which in addition to the Pinacoteca and the Sistine Chapel include one Etruscan and one Egyptian ; from Berlin choose the Pergamon, which contains almost entire palaces such as the Ishtar gate of ancient Babylon and the Astarte Gate, built in the 6th century BC. under the orders of Nebuchadnezzar II, and also the Deutsches Museum, of which they write "you would need 8 days to visit it completely". There is the Tokyo National Museum, the largest in Japan. And there is our Gold Museum. In the historic center of Bogotá, on the eastern side of the park, just on 16th street with 5th race, is the Gold Museum, home to the largest collection of pre-Hispanic ceramics, goldsmiths and textiles in the world. Property of the Banco de la República de Colombia, it has thirty-four thousand pieces of gold, some of exceptional beauty in addition to their historical value, such as the Balsa Muisca (famous piece that represents a coronation ritual). An extraordinary collection exhibited in five rooms to travel to the roots of the different indigenous cultures settled in present-day Colombia before the arrival of the Spanish. It should be noted that this space is a phenomenal burglary-proof bunker and in collaboration with all kinds of museums and institutions it makes itinerant exhibitions around the globe showing pieces of enormous cultural and historical value such as The Muisca raft, symbol of The Legend del Dorado and the Poporos of the Quimbaya culture. Visiting The Gold Museum is a golden experience that dreams of an equal future for a country that wants to show the world the best of its people and work in a permanent exhibition. The Bogotá Gold Museum is a reliable example that Colombia has always had in its people the most valuable of its treasures.

Museo del Oro is part of the TransMilenio mass-transit system of Bogotá, Colombia, opened in the year 2000. It’s located in the very heart of Bogotá. The museum has a collection of 55,000 pieces of gold, 6,000 of which are on display in their expanded building. Each one is more beautiful than the next. A must see!!! There are bilingual descriptions of almost all exhibits. On the first floor houses the museum's main entrance, a shop, and a restaurant. Exhibitions begin on the second floor. The main room is called "People and Gold in pre-Hispanic Colombia". In glass vitrines display goldsmiths' work from the different cultures which inhabited Colombia before the Spanish colonists arrived. The exposition continues on the third floor, with "The Flying Chamanic" and "The Offering." The first shows the process of a shamanic ceremony with its different gold pieces, the second is divided into three parts: the "Offering Room", the "Offering Boat", and the "Lake". At the end of the exposition, there is a "Profunditation Room" with artistic videos about the most important gold pieces of the museum. Sundays have discounts.

Interesting museum at Bogota. It is definitely worth a visit. The pieces are beautifully displayed. It only costs a dollar and a half (year 2019). It also has a shop and a small cafeteria. It is not big, and anyone can visit it in a couple of hours. A nice spot in Bogota

RESERVATIONS ARE REQUIRED... Ok so the museum with all of it splendor and spoil are impressive of course... there are surprises that I won't tell you about all throughout the place ...definitely worth the visit! Also, its right in the heart of downtown which is ALIVE on the weekend, take a look! The staff was very friendly inside the museum; however, though we had our reservations, the lady at the door was dry, borderline rude, and highly aggressive regarding the ticketing process.

Incredible experience seeing how the Colombian culture has evolved from native indigenous tribes to current day alongside the discovery, mining, smelting and jewelry and ornament making process of Gold along with other trades. Impressive collection of pieces from native tribes from various parts of Colombia. Loved the circular dark room.

We've spent two hours in the museum, most of all because we arrived at 17h and it closes at 19h. If we would have known the amount of items and splendor of it all we would have tried to come earlier. We can highly recommend this visit. All types of ornaments, jewelry, materials, techniques,... Plus 4000 COP entrance per person is the best deal you'll ever get to see such a beautiful collection!

Beautiful collection of artifacts, organized in a chronological experience. Great job at educating visitors about the processes involved including how things were made and later discovered and preserved. There's no way to leave this museum and not be impressed with the level of care and dedication put into it for all these years. I highly recommend it.

Very surprised. Clean and very friendly staffs. Museum is very well organized and the displays are easy to appreciate and set up properly. Not too crowded. With English translation. Easy to locate. Only 2mil pesos per person. Several floors but elevators are functional and easy to find. Well above my expectations. Restrooms are clean too. All audio displays are in Spanish though.

One of the best experiences that I have seen and felt in a museum. All the richness that has Colombia. Not speaking about richness of the gold, but about the richness of its history and geography. The little statues are incredible with its explanation and it’s symbology. For the moment, the best museum in Colombia that I have visited. Totally friendly with the wheelchairs and the handicapped people. Easy to see and easy to understand all the process of the gold.

Wonderful exhibit! It is definitely worth the visit. It is not a very big place, but how much time you spend there depends on how carefully you are reading the descriptions, the history and studying these interesting works of metal. It is super affordable and costs 5000 pesos, which is currently an equivalent to $1.25 (fall of 2023). We went on a Friday around noon, and there was no wait to get in. The descriptions are both in Spanish and English.

This is a good place to go and burn about 45 minutes. It has a good amount of golden artifacts along with other items that predate the Spanish conquest. It does a good job of telling the story of indigenous peoples and their customs. I would recommend the audio guide although you don’t need it as most of the museum does have descriptions in both English and Spanish.

One of the best museums in the country. Exhibition rooms are well prepared and items showed in a great light. As well with a text and information which is not too much but just a bit. And its perfect to ger the context and the meaning. There is a lot to discover so plan your time. As well, I would recommend to get a guide book. They are selling it in the shop. If you know what you are looking for, you would definately will find it!

Then you can spend some time in the plaza and shopping for some Colombian artifacts at the mall next door.

One of the coolest places in all of Bogotá. What I expected was a museum telling me about gold, but what I received was an indepth history lesson on metallurgy and its uses in South America including some surprising amount of information on the various indigenous groups themselves. I highly recommend to anyone who loves history in general as it is very informative and fascinating to see some of the wonderful handcrafted gold artwork from an ancient time with your own eyes. ❤️

great purpose built building housing an enormous and incredible amount of art. Interesting collection of indigenous gold through the centuries with explanations in both spanish and English. It’s a bit circuitous and my eyes took on a bit too much gold but it’s certainly impressive and amazing.

  • 5/5 Lucas K. 1 year ago on Google
Really enjoyed my visit to this museum. The main exhibition is divided in two floors (2 and 3), then there’s other stuff on the 4th floor and temporary exhibitions from -1 to -3. The price is incredible low (5000 pesos), so you have no excuse to not go. There are also audio guides for a bit more. Inside you’ll see amazing gold, silver, bronze and other materials pieces. There are a few “master pieces” also that you can’t miss, so ask before going in to know which are those. One of them, the small boat, is on my photos.

  • 5/5 Maddi P. 8 months ago on Google
Spent about an hour and a half here looking at all the pieces. Not just gold, but other materials also. Loved all the little pieces. You can spend much more time if you read all the information (it's in Spanish and English). The museum is big.

A very nice and unique experience. Definitely recommend it for all the history and the gold items which are amazing to look at. It's the most important museum of Colombia and one of the most important ones of Latin America. If you are in Bogotá, this museum must be your Top 1. More than simply tell the History of gold, it shows the narrative of the value in itself. There's no official store, but there's a store and a restaurant inside.

  • 5/5 leo l. 9 months ago on Google
Worth visiting. Has an outstanding gold collection. The place is overflowing with gold. Very informative. Shows different techniques on making anything in gold. The collections are from all parts of Colombia. Some collections are grouped depending on the provenance and the group of people who used them. Has a souvenir shop and a coffeeshop at the basement. Entrance ticket is very cheap. The outside is a bit sketchy and busy especially on the nearby parks.

  • 5/5 Augusto G. 8 months ago on Google
Very interesting museum, that tells much about the history of Colombia and their natives. If you are not familiar to read the description in Spanish or English, hire a guide or use Google translate with images on your phone.

Great spot in El Centro to get off the streets for a bit and check out the history of the area. Multiple floors of ancient gold on this play with good descriptions in Spanish and English. Extremely cheap to enter $1-2 US. I walked around for about an hour. The size of the exhibit is just about right any larger would probably lose your attention. There is a beautiful Cafe inside as well.

  • 5/5 Hoai N. 10 months ago on Google
It is one of the most beautiful gold museums that I have ever seen in the world. The gold here comes from some different areas of Colombia. A lot of the pieces were beautiful, and there was a lot of history to the pieces. Apparently, some of the ancestors took the Gold with them into the afterlife. Life was and still is important part of the Colombian culture. What's an amazing Museum. Highly recommended

  • 5/5 Melik Can K. 7 months ago on Google
Beautiful museum in Bogota. The entrance fee is very affordable. English translation to every historical piece is given. Took me around 2 hours. High recommendation!

  • 4/5 Kathy E. S. 7 months ago on Google
This is amazing for history, buffs or anyone who just wants to see the beautiful gold ancient artifacts. I went on a Sunday afternoon close to 3 PM. My admission was free. Information seems to be confusing online but yes, it is free on Sundays. They still give you a ticket but you don’t pay. The museum was excessively crowded, but it was still easy to move around and read. If you read the entire museum, you may end up being there for more than two hours. After 30 minutes of reading, I had a headache, so I decided to just quickly glanced through things. It was very interesting to learn about the history of gold in South America. The artefacts are beautiful. In some exhibition rooms, you cannot take pictures and then others you have to turn off your flash but many were Pretty disrespectful of those rules. I removed a star because it was 8°C in Bogota, and the museum was freezing with air-conditioning. I left after an hour because I was too cold.

Absolutely amazing! My favorite exhibit was the Lake Guatavita room where all the pieces of gold which have been recovered from this lagoon are beautifully displayed. The music and light work make for such an immersive and emotional experience. Getting to know the history of the Muisca before visiting the museum will only enhance your time there, I definitely recommend 👌

  • 5/5 Rainer G. 4 months ago on Google
Five stars is not enough. The museum gives amazing insights into the metallurgical artistry of pre-Columbian gold smiths and the cultural significance of the objects. The introduction into the metallurgical processing is excellent. The displays are not overwhelming and all descriptions are also given in English. A visit to the gift shop is highly recommended.

Beautiful museum that has three levels. The price to enter is very reasonable. Displays are written in Spanish and English. We wanted to rent the audio headsets but they didn’t have any available. Not sure if they were all rented or had a problem because we didn’t see anyone using them. There is a lovely gift shop, a restaurant and a coffee shop. The barista at the coffee shop was quite unfriendly when we were trying to converse to her in Spanish. We walked around to La Candelaria afterwards which is the shopping district.
