My recent visit to Alter Simpl in Mannheim left me pleasantly surprised. The restaurant's unassuming exterior hides a cozy and inviting atmosphere that instantly puts you at ease. As a fan of traditional German cuisine, I was excited to explore their menu, and I was not disappointed. The interior has a rustic charm that perfectly complements the dishes they serve. The staff was friendly and attentive, adding to the overall positive experience. I opted for one of their classic German dishes, and it was clear that they take pride in maintaining the authenticity of their offerings. The flavors were rich and satisfying, reminding me of homemade meals cooked with love. While the food was undoubtedly a highlight, I did find some room for improvement. The pacing of the service could have been a bit smoother, and the variety on the menu, while good, could be expanded further. In summary, Alter Simpl offers a delightful journey into traditional German flavors in a warm and welcoming environment. With a few tweaks, it has the potential to become an even more exceptional dining destination. For those seeking a taste of authentic German cuisine, this restaurant is certainly worth a visit.

Excellent food. The best German food I ever had. I give it only 4 stars because it is a bit expensive and portions are not very big. Beer it's good too. Spätzle was amazing. We also took the farmers platter. Meat was succulent. I recommended it. Very fresh. Quick service.

We have been many times to eat here and we enjoyed it very much. I can say that it is one of the few restaurants here in the center of Mannheim where you can eat really well. We tried everything a bit and the staff is very nice and friendly towards us. The owner also nice and friendly to us. The only thing we have not yet understood, however, is why the potatoes come out so dark. Sometimes they were good in color, others a little darker, but the taste was always good! You were always satisfied and definitely go back!

Review for restaurant: after being seated in a half-empty terrace and placing our order, the waitress returned several minutes later to ask us to move, as there was a German family that had arrived and insisted on the the exact table we were seated at - yes, really, they wanted our table (their favorite) and the waitress needed us to move. Two other tables (same type, same number of chairs) were avaliable to choose from next to us. Fortunately we declined to choose another table, finding a different restaurant that accepted us as customers.

I had the Palatinate triplet consisting of a beef liver dumpling (Leberknoedel), a patty made of pork offal (Saumagen) and a sausage. The choice of the Leberknoedel was a shot to kill since I knew I like liver and this one was indeed very good. On the other hand, I was new to the Saumagen and I'm glad I had the occasion to try it. I know it's supposed to be spiced but I couldn't taste much of that. The sausage was like many others and I think a bit out of place on an offal dish. Everything was with lots of Sauerkraut and gravy that were a very good accompaniement and some nice white baguette to help pick them up To drink I had the Rotes Raeuber of Eichbaum, a local amber lager in my opinion very appropriate with the dish. Very kind of the staff to let me try also the Eichbaum Export from the tap before (not) ordering it. It was a Tuesday evening, we had reserved a table and the service was fast and efficient.

I ordered the Cordon Bleu Schnitzel and it was - mehh.. It could use more salt.. and flavor in general :/ The service was supppper slow, and not very friendly. From taking the order, bringing the food to paying.

We were a big group of people on a business trip looking to have traditional German food and dinner. This place was really good and we enjoyed ourselves a lot! They were very accommodating to us splitting our bill. It is a return place for me and my crowd ☺️

Traditional German beers and dishes in a cosy environment. However, online menu and main menu card not marked well for allergens, and few gluten free options.

Espectacular German food and beer. We followed the indications of Nico, one of the waiters, and we had a really nice experience. He selected all the beers for me and explained the food really well.

The food is always delicious here. The staff was very accommodating. The outdoor seating was full and I had to sit at the end of the bar. Still all good. The atmosphere was very light and mixed (afterwork get-togethers and diner dates). The Cordon Bleu portion was above average. Bratkartoffel: excellent. I would, in retrospect, order a bratensoße extra. But, all in all; I will be back. Top quality (if you're willing to spend a little cash).

The food portion was quite big and delicious!! We went to the restaurant on Sunday and it was open. Unfortunately we didn't order beer. The restaurant seems to have history and good vibes!! Recommend!!
