The 13th century castle ruin is scenically located on the edge of the Palatine Forest, with vineyards cascading down to the Rhine Plain. Food, wine and expansive views are on hand.

I enjoy walking up to Wachtenburg. It is a fairly easy hike up the hill (maybe 20-30 minutes). Good food, friendly service, and a spectacular view of the German Wine Road. I love just sitting up on the terrace taking in the sunshine with family and friends.

The sunset view was amazing. Take a break, walk through wine garden sit down with your favourite drink and enjoy the view.

It’s a beautiful place where you can see landscape of Freinsheim, Bad Dürkheim, Wachenheim, Mannheim and more from above. They also have very nice restaurant in the castle with traditional German food.

Easy access to the castle ruin. There are plenty of places to stop and rest during your climb. A nice pub at the top to have snacks and quench your thirst. Once you have made it there, the views are worth it!
