The church has the medieval charm with high ceilings and stone columns. And it has quite some stories to bring significance to it. Over a 300 year period, a wall was built in the middle of the church to divide it into two parts to allow both Catholics and Protestants to practice in the church at the same time. The first stained glass window on the right caused the most famed controversy among the world history of stained glass works. The artist got a commission to build a total of 22 stained glass windows but due to the controversy on the fist window, he ended up only completing the single one piece, Physics Window. It costs 2 euro to climb the bell tower which I highly recommend to do it. On the top you get the best view of the River the bridge, the old town and the most importantly, the castle.

Lovely well cared for church in Heidelberg. Though dark and imposing on the outside the church was bright and airy on the inside. I lit a candle for my recently deceased sibling.

It is located on Hauptstraße with a large area in front of it and an area with many cafes. You can drink your coffee with the view of the historical Heidelberg Castle..

Unfortunately I didn't have a chance to go inside or on top of the tower, but even from the outside this church looks amazing. This is also the first church I have ever seen which allowed small stores to be directly attached to it.

In the course of its history, the Church of the Holy Spirit was used by both Catholics and Protestants, even simultaneously. Starting in 1706, a partition was inserted so that both congregations could hold their services without any mutual disturbance. In 1720, Karl III Philip, Elector Palatine came into conflict with the town's Protestants as a result of fully handing over the Church of the Holy Spirit to the Catholics. Karl Philip gave way, due to pressure from Prussia, the Dutch Republic, and Sweden and repartitioned the wall. In 1936 the separating wall was removed and the church is now exclusively Protestant (Protestant Church in Baden). At the beginning of the 1970s, the steps at the rear of the Church of the Holy Spirit were popular with the Hippies and the Flower Power movement and became a tourist attraction during this time. In 1972, a rock concert by Werner Pieper and the English band Quintessence was organised in the church and attended by students and Hippies alike.

This is the largest church in Heidelberg. It was constructed in the 14th century. In those days Roman Catholic masses used to be held here. But later only Protestant practices take place. You can go up the tower (almost 40 meters) for a stunning view of the Marketplatz and the city. Around the church you will find many cafes and restaurants serving different kinds of food. From local to Middle Eastern and Vietnamese. Marketplats is a busy square and a nice place to take a break from your tour, or to while away the time as you eat a snack or sip on your drink.

Gothic, 1398. The largest church in Heidelberg was originally Roman Catholic, but the congregation has changed denominations more than ten times through its history, reflecting the chaos of the Protestant Reformation in Germany. Intermittently, over a 300 year period, the nave and the choir of the church were separated by a wall, allowing both Catholics and Protestants to worship at the same time. The wall was ultimately removed in 1936, and the congregation is now solely Protestant. Interior is a little disappointing. Jesuitenkirche has better interior.

Very large church in the centre of Heidelberg, which is both old on the outside, and old and modern at the same time inside. Some of the window designs were super modern, as well as the amazing sparkling swinging perplex cross (first photo) as you can see in my photos. Despite the modern features the beauty of the old church is still very much present. Really enjoyed our wander around here. Very busy when we visited on a Saturday in early September.

A church completely surrounded by kiosks and little shops, this is quite surprising.

Majestic and simple at the same time. Lots of tourists are here. Easy to get into and there is even stairs to climb the spire.

Just pay the 2€ ticket to go to the tower! It's a long way up with many stairs but the view of the entire city and the nature around it, is magnificent

A historical monument that must be seen. With a history of 700 years, it is a place that exudes a lot of peace. As a curiosity, at the beginning of the 18th century it was divided into two parts by a wall. The purpose was to serve two religions at the same time.

Really nice church, some great stained glass, a few tombs and place that oozes history but is also not afraid to promote modernity. Worth a look

Really love this church. Looks magnificent from the outside. Had the chance to observe their singing and organ playing. Truly nice and would like to visit again.

The outside of this church has some really cool details. The stained glass on the inside is very detailed. Definitely worth checking out a tour of the tower if it’s open.

We've visited mostly Catholic churches so it was interesting to find an evangelical church in Heidelberg, which essentially means Lutheran. The red window is a tribute to the development of atomic energy, a strange idea for a church window.

One of the landmarks of this coisy town. We absolutely loved the view from the top of the tower - it is really worth it!

Nice square in the center there is the beautiful church in tile color you will find many cafes and restaurants it usually has people but not something suffocatingly terrible..

Inside, this church looks like it has been stripped of all its innards, which is completely at odds with its exterior. Organ concerts are sometimes held there, and there are also exhibitions inside.

It is the biggest and one of the oldest protestant churches in the world. The optical illusion it gives is amazing. The Roman architecture in it is worth seeing

I am always in awe of any church. This one, was nothing spectacular from outside, but the nuance from inside was amazing. I just sat there in silence, for a while.
