Philosophers' Way

Tourist attraction

👍👍 It is a great experience of walking with so much beautiful view to the castle, old Bridge and river. And it is with beautiful birds singing and smell from flowers. I recommend to everyone who visit Heidelberg for not long time as it is the best opportunity to see all town during short time. Beautiful walk with great views over the Heidelberg.. We walked up "snake way" which was quite steep so take it easy. There is an easier way if you enter from the west bridge.. It's worth the effort..

Incredible views of the city! The path is a bit steep going up and it's cobblestone, so wear proper shoes. Worth the effort and I'm so glad I had the time to do this. There were places to stop along the way so you could rest and take in the views.

An amazing easy hiking trip in Heidelberg! It's a beautiful forest located right in the heart of the city. The path is mostly shaded, thanks to the tall trees, and offers a wonderful view of the river and the city with its castles.

Take a stroll and contemplate your very finitude as the existentialists did. This is a beautiful and easy hike up the mountain. Extra points for starting up the way at sunrise. Gorgeous sunrise across the river.

Lovely mountain road lined with manors behind stone walls. Leads to many mountain-forest trails with stunning views of the city and castle across the river.

A typical trek of a usual Heidelberg-er. Its a bit glamourous during the evening as one see the city lights. A mild to steep slope at first but then gets better. A nice weekend walk. A good place to go a date and have coffee along the way. Great place to sit and have a nice chat along the way.

If you're in Heidelberg, make sure you visit this place. It is a nice walk from town, even though the beginning of the Philosophers way can be quite sloppy. If you're here, don't miss Heiligenberganlage - Thingstätte and St. Michael's ruin. You'll have a nice 1h30 walk.

Nice walk to have a great view of the city. The path is pretty on a hill so I suggest to go there when it's not too warm so either in the early morning or late in the afternoon. I also suggest for families to go back from the way without the stairs since today I saw a family having many problems in going down from the stairs with the baby kart

Our favorite FREE activity in Heidelberg! Awesome hike with incredible views back over the city. We also went up to the Thingstätte amphitheater but could not get into Michaelskloster since it’s closed on Mondays.

A walking route that lasts approximately 2 km. Its possible to start from both sides. I preferred the stairs exit. It's a bit tiring, but the view is worth it. It was a very enjoyable walk for me.

Best place to take photo of Heidelberg. Worth 20 mins walk to get here from bridge. The whole city is in front of you! Try to be here half hour before sunset.

Very nice hike easily accessible from old town. Well worth the effort once you get to the top. You have a bit under 500 feet of climbing but paved cobblestone and stairs.

Lovely views. Very accessible for all abilities. We hiked in a light rain. I am ever so glad we did. We went up first. Then a long descend to the far bridge and university buildings.

Breathtaking views! Literally! Be in shape walking up this mountain, and the views are worth it. I went in early December and saw some hikers carried gluhwein with them to defrost themselves. Wise decision. It can be cold up there! There were plenty of benches to rest. The homes we saw were also beautiful and the pathway is so scenic. It's a must go.

I like this place, a nice route for walking. You will see the beautiful scenery of the old bridge and the old town when you step on the top. It was just a bit smelly and scary when walk up along the stairs.

Definitely physically challenging, the view from the top is nice ( you get a panoramic view of the city) but the view from the castle is a lot better.

Lovely walk. Not hard, and totally worth the view. The Schengenweg is the trickyer part, but totally can be done, even if you need some time to breath in the benches they put on the way.

A hike anyone can handle at their own pace. The view of the castle is top-notch and the seating is outstanding for the castle-oriented viewing themes. Summer sweat upwards with an ice cream reward

Great view of Heidelberg. It can be a little bit hard to go up but it’s totally recommended. There are spots with places to sit and enjoy the view as well. I went in the morning and also in the night. I found the night view even better.
