This museum is a true gem when you are interested in the field of pharmacy. You can find 5 antique pharmacies from different time periods and cities in Germany, as well as lots of exhibits and information. All information is available in English and German and guided tours are offered as well. Beautiful place that is worth a visit inside the castle.

Fascinating museum inside the castle. The various pharmacy instruments are very interesting and come with plenty of information describing what was going on during that time period. The rooms are easy to navigate and there are a few smaller rooms that are tucked away so make sure to look at those.

The museum itself is small but interesting. I'm giving only three stars because plenty of exhibits have descriptions only in German, so it's impossible to know some more for English-speaking tourists. I believe that's a big neglection and that's just unprofessional.

It is very interested museum. I liked it a lot because there were many boards with interesting information and everything was very nicely explained in German and English language. Entry fee is included in 9€ ticket to the castle yard. The only thing that was not explained is how is this pharmacy connected to the castle. Overall it was the only interesting thing from the castle that you can purchase for 9 euros.

It is a very informative and interesting museum. I have only been to a old pharmacy museum in the Netherlands before, but this one is way bigger, prettier and more interesting than the one I have been to. There is also a "cough syrup" souvenir which you can buy as a gag gift!

3.5 star, place is good and they tell you all the stories how medicines started and years ago how they used medicines. There is a machine also which they used to make medicines with herbs and all the vessels they used to make it. The best part is all are explain english also. They also explain how they used skins of the animals to make medicines. Its inside the Heidelberg castle so if you take the 14 euro ticket of the train which include the castle visit and this museum visit. So bookmark this location for your next visit to beautiful city called Heidelberg.

It is a unique museum inside the charming Heidelberg castle. The museum exhibition includes about two thousand years of medical and pharmaceutical science development. You can find fully preserved early pharmacies there, with natural medicines and remedies in fascinating containers and drawer. The museum shop also had an exceptional collection of goods that stimulate the museum objects. The entrance of the castle which also includes the museum is 9 euros for adults

Amazing! This museum housed in Heidelberg Castle show case more than 20,00 exhibits in over 2000 years of pharmaceutical history. As you go through the labyrinth passages containing the exhibits you'll feel living through the different eras of pharmaceutical history. The setting is quite realistic.

If you're visiting the Heidelberg Castle, make sure to stop in the Pharmacy Museum. The exhibition is very interesting and everything is very well presented. Unfortunately, not all areas are accessible due to COVID at the moment, but the visit is still worth it.

Very interesting place. There were a couple of rooms, as well as many old packages and some medical instruments. I, personally, did not understand the tools and machines in the laboratory - information about the various items would have been nice.

We do a walk through at this museum every time we are in Heidelburg. We loved the displays of "medications" from the past.

To visually see the evolution of the pharmacy from medieval to the present. It takes your breath away with how fast we have developed the pharmacy and it's role in modern day medicine.

Impressive pharmacy just like it was hundreds of years ago. There are all sorted raw materials for medicines in jars and boxes in the many different rooms of the building.

Heidleburg Castle houses the Pharmacy Museum. Pay to visit the castle but nothing else inside castle including Museum!! Beautiful and well taken care of, English translations.

Good signage, much of it in English. Very well done.Thank you for the effort. I have attached one English interpretive sign from the lab display: I wonder if this is a translation error: "...the lighter liquids are forced outwards against the wall of the vessel..." Don't heavier liquids migrate to the outside walls of a centrifuge?

Good journey, informative and interactive! English friendly :)) I love the walking design and every stop is very interesting. It is worth a visit to learn more about the history of pharmacy and how it evolves to date.

  • 4/5 Paul B. 4 years ago on Google
The collection is interesting but very dusty, dead, and sometimes difficult to view. The glassware in particular needs a clean. The majority of the visitors are clearly hardly interested in the exhibited pieces and mindlessly march through without looking around. Nevertheless, a Bunson-era bunson burner and three complete pharmacist shelving systems are highlights. Text in English and German. If you're really interested in the contents, try to avoid the crowds, who clearly don't care. If you're just interested in the castle, this is one of the few places you can go inside at no extra cost.

Well this was a museum of history and how medicines mixtures and well being were brought to the general public. I loved the Kinder Apotheke. Where so many salt were kept for people to sniff and Awaken their nasal senses. Well I was in. And it was so much fun. Hope you enjoy it as much as I did. The pharmacy museum is an interesting place to visit if you have even the slightest interest in pharmacology and the development of the modern system of medicines. It was really interesting to see the different raw materials that were traditionally used as medicines and how they were processed and stored. The old pharmacy cabinets and the layout of old pharmacy stores was also rather interesting. Of course, if you are going to visit the Heidelberg palace anyway, this is something you simply shouldn't miss.

I recently visited the pharmacy museum and was thoroughly impressed. The exhibits were informative and educational, offering a glimpse into the history of pharmacy and the development of modern medicine. One of the highlights of the museum was the collection of antique apothecary jars, which dated back to the 18th and 19th centuries. It was fascinating to see the various ingredients that were used in traditional remedies and how they were prepared. The interactive displays were also a hit, allowing visitors to learn about the role of pharmacists and how they work with patients to ensure proper medication use. Overall, I highly recommend a visit to the pharmacy museum for anyone interested in the history of medicine or the inner workings of a pharmacy. It is a unique and fascinating experience that will leave you with a greater appreciation for the field

Very interesting exhibits. Absolutely worth visiting. They even have a caricature of Thomas Rowlandson on display and everything is explained in English. Loved it.

Very interesting to see how the properties of plants were used especially in the Middle Ages. Of interest is also the furniture with which the pharmacies were equipped at that time. Congratulations to those who did the work of collecting all these exhibits.

A very interesting and informative museum containing thousands of pharmaceutical items to show the history and evolution of medicine. The hundreds years old apothecaries jars, cabinets and tools are amazing to look at. There are numerous plants and animal bones and horns that are displayed as ancient medicine. The information are provided both in German and English. You could spend as little as 30 minutes or as much as a couple of hours there depending on how much interest you have into apothecary items.
