Enjoyed our visit to this castle as part of a Viking River Cruise. Guide was knowledgeable and spoke great English. There are a lot of stairs and uneven ground so if you have trouble with either, just be aware.

Nicely preserved castle with a great panoramic view of the river and valley. The castle guide gave a good thorough narration of the history and various tidbits about life in the medieval time. The restaurant and souvenir shop is very nice and clean. Highly recommended.

Beautiful castle and great English tour. About a 60 minute tour, there are a lot of stairs and some uneven areas of the castle. Just bring comfortable shoes and be careful. It is a nice tour. Highlight for me was the armor room.

Beautifully maintained medieval castle. We came with a Viking cruise tour group and I'm so glad we did this excursion. It was really fun to drive through the little town then visit the castle. The tour guide was fun, friendly, and knowledgeable. The tour takes you around the wall, into the wine cellar, kitchens, stable, lord's room, and knights room. Seeing the toilet was very interesting! Lots of history here, the buildings are authentic and well maintained. The weapons and armor display was very interesting and great to see. There are several stairs here and some walkways are narrow and steep. If it's a damp day chances are the stones will be slippery. There is a very nice gift shop and restaurant with refreshments at the end. Try the mulled red or white wine, totally delicious. They even have something for kids to try. The schnapps made a nice souvenir to take home and share with friends.

One of the best castle tours I have ever experienced. Even though the tour was spoken in German, the tour guide provided commentary in English for the U.S. tourists. I was grateful and it made the experience fantastic. Not to mention Marksburg is the only castle on the middle Rhine that has not been re-built. Hard to imagine such an old building has stood for over 800 years! Also, the room with armor from multiple centuries was the most diverse I have seen. Excellent all around.

Very nice castle with nice tour. Tour takes roughly one hour and is also very nice for the children. The way from the parking ground (with comes 3€) is very easy to walk and takes only a few minutes. The hiking trails from down town look very nice - I guess, it’s not heavy to reach the castle by walk from the city center. Did not try, because it was heavy raining, but I would have liked to.

We arrived at 2:30, and the English guided tour started at 3:00. The tour guide was wonderful! You get to see most of the castle, and the history is fantastic. Great for our 6 and 10 year old girls. The inside of the castle was cool and it was mostly out of the sun. This was our favorite castle experience.

It’s a quirky castle with a lot of history. Great views of the river and region. English tour at 13:00. I recommend downloading the tour details before from the website, then it is all clearer as you tour. Our guide, Daniel was very kind and patient. Lots of stairs and rough ground. Some areas are very tight- so not for those who are claustrophobic. Very reasonable admission €11 and credit is accepted. It’s about 1 1/2 scenic train ride along the Rhein river on DB10 from Mainz Kastell (about €44 if round trip is not purchased). A 20 minute walk up steep paths to reach the castle from Braubach HBF. Clean toilets. Gift shop. Snack bar and picnic area.

A beautiful castle with a nice tour. Took the tour which was around 11 euros. It was very informative and had plenty of variety in the rooms and castle layout. Highly recommend it if you enjoy medieval history. The tour was offered in either English or German at different times.

We took a tour in German an was not informed that an English tour was scheduled 30 minutes later. The tour of the castle took little over one hour and was very interesting if you like history and old castles. Very bad walkways and not always something to hold on to.

We walked from the railway station up to the castle near 20 minutes. If you go by a car, the parking is not far from the castle. But nevertheless you must have sports shoes to walk inside, because of the rocky roads. The entrance fee for adults is 11 euro. At 13.00 is the gide tour in English. There is also a cafe where you can wait for the tour starting. The castle is open every day (at least at the summertime).

OMG, this is a must do tour, if it is not misting or raining because the walking surfaces are uneven, and can be moderate - for those over 55 years of age, and less nimble. The various rooms shown have a lot of detail and show life in a Kingdom during a period many castles built in the same area. If you go, try to go in the morning as in the summer months it can be cooler. I hope you enjoy your visit as much as I did, and watch your step.

This wasn't an easy walk but so well worth the effort. The guides are very passionate about the history and preservation of this landmark. They provide a great insight and context around the lives of the inhabitants through the centuries.

Very nice Castle. They claim it is the only castle in the Rhein that was not destroyed. You can go to the top by car or with a little walk (there are lots of stairs). You cannot visit it on your but you can go with one of the 50-minute guided tours for 11 euros (adult price). There is a quite nice souvenir store and a terrace where you can have a drink and a snack (even a whole meal if go around midday) while you enjoy the sun and the view of the Rhein.

This is a well-preserved Medieval castle, which was never destroyed or damaged. It's definitely worth the visit if you happen to be on the Rhine River touring castles.

The castle is on very high place you will be able to see everything around and it’s a nice/quiet place. I had good time there.

Beautiful Fortress and castle. The only castle in Germany never to be breached. Fortunately we were cruising on the second Saturday in August and our ship was invited to be in the flotilla extravaganza.

Great castle! Ensure you get a tour as it gives you access to rooms such as the armor collection. We did our tour as part of our Viking River Cruise.

Is this castle haunted? I caught a ghost picture, I think, and it’s the best picture of a ghost I’ve ever caught. It’s from the dinning hall looking through the chapel toward the rock staircase. Please try to recreate and see if it is truly a picture of the paranormal!

It was really nice. The staff were very kind and also spoke English. There were guided tours in English and German. The food was surprisingly good. The marks burger was really delicious!

Very interesting stop on our tour. My son enjoyed the displays of armor and weapons through the ages. I loved the view of the Rhine.

A beautiful ancient castle. Slightly more challenging climb out of the town. Without paying the entrance fee you won't see much of the castle, you will only get to the gate. The tour was in English, very sympathetic guide.

It was really amazing to visit this centuries old wonderful castle. I loved the arts of the castle and the decorated soldiers of different ages were just cool.

Took tour as part of our Viking River Cruise. Our guide Suzanne was great . Lots of interesting info. One must be able to climb up and down winding narrow steps , sometimes uneven ground of big rock. Saw room full of the knights armor and the changes thru time , bathroom, kitchen , bedroom . A great tour

Absolutely gem of a place! We walked along the riverside from Lahnstein to the castle and what an amazing experience it was. We bought the tickets with the English tour and were very satisfied by the end of it. We would spend time from one room to another for a short period of time but had a detailed narration about it's history. Would definitely visit it again!

Got there shortly before closing, didn’t explore as much as I would have liked. It was my first visit to a castle so wasn’t sure what I could and could not do. These are the photos from my phone not my camera.

Great castle but a wee bit challenging a walk on some of the surfaces.

The history provided by the guide was terrific. A must see. But you must be able to climb stairs.
