Visited on Christmas day 2019, when I had my holiday in the area. I thought on Christmas at least the beauty spots were open for nice walks. Well, even to get there was lovely to drive through a valley with sheep grazing around. They have a good size car park and in the manor a youth hotel - or at least that time it definitely worked like that. Also cafΓ©/toilet available in the side of the house. The ground has a lovely view and a few paths to start our walk. I bet I missed the longer ones, but the weather was wet and muddy, and I did not find proper estate map anywhere. But yet I spent there 3-4 hours to walk around and enjoyed the fresh air. I wanted to walked down to the stepping stones, but on half way I had to turn back as it was already half past 3 pm and began to get dark, so felt better to head back to the car park. But in summertime it can be another nice walk to get there, have a look, enjoy and then back. Also we can drive there within a few minutes. But because winter has very short daylight, hard to squeeze 2 spots in one day. But the area is beautiful, and definitely worth to see.

Found this beautiful place as we left the Isaak Walton Hotel - lots of interesting history and lovely walk by the river. The church is connected to ILAM Park - free parking for disabled badge holders an NT members. Nice tea room. Book shop and benches to sit on.

Ilam park is excellent park for tourist with 3 rivers in side and love dale thorpe etc mountain ranges with trekking and walking. This park with vast land farms for rearing sheep, cattle etc. Natural treasure of greens like wild garlic etc and rare birds also we can see here. Maintained by national Trust.

A really beautiful spot for a nice, relaxing family day out. The flat green plains shaded by centuries old oak trees provide a nice picnic point. Try to sit closer to the river, which isn’t clean or swim friendly, but provides a soothing background noise. If you cross over the river, there’s a nice going trail that goes up challenging terrain. The old stone church is open for public viewing and has an antique bell that rings every hour. We plan to visit again soon and book a stay for a 2-3 days instead of a day visit to truly explore this place.

One of the best place for relaxing day walk. Wonderful views including. Beautiful Hall, river, country park, hills. There is short stroll around the river bank which is beautiful, but also longer walk (if follow river back then fields) in the hills and you don't need to be super fit for it πŸ™‚ and you can have an adventure to find beautiful farms and houses hidden in the hills. However, there is hiking routes for more experienced walkers as well πŸ‘ Also there is cafe with good food and lovely views. Important about parking. If you would like free parking space in the village, along the road, you need to come very early. I mean VERY! Spaces are limited. There is good spacious car park next to the Hall but need to have or National Trust membership card (free parking), or coins. Card payment not available.

You will feel like in a fairy-tale land, walking surrounded by hills, forests and rivers. A great place to spend time with the family, not only in the park but on the trail in Dove Valley. Although it is not the heart of the Peak District somehow, this place is special for those who love nature and stunning scenery

An impressive house, church and grounds, lovely views from the upper tea rooms, plus a nice river walk. It's well worth a visit however, the house is not open to the public as it is currently used as a youth hostel.

Lovely place to have a stroll along the riverbank and take in the breathtaking views. Lunch was a bit expensive - Β£3.50 for a sausage roll, which was the same price as a 'proper' sandwich, but apart from that the place is well worth a visit, but get there early - not a big car park.

A beautiful national trust location in the Peak District close to the stepping stones at Dovedale. You do need to pay for parking unless you are a member, but still scan your card at the machine. There is a wonderful tearoom and secondhand bookshop.

Quieter than its nearby National Trust sibling of Dovedale, Ilam Park offers a tranquil setting with walking trails around the river. There is a signposted footpath to Dovedale and the Stepping Stones which is 1.5 miles away. Parking is free for National Trust members or Β£7 for the day otherwise.

A great experience of an old English village. We visited the church for a wedding. It was a step back in time to older buildings and interior. We loved it.

Beautiful scenery the country park was very tranquil, however when we went to the stepping stones it was a different story, dogs off leads chasing wildfowl I was absolutely shocked to see this. It clearly states keep dogs on leads at all times, people caught not obeying this should be banned from going there. No wild animal should be pursued by a dog!!!

There is so much to do & Explore :) From a Small Village to Raw Heights and scenes. No phone Signal, so be mindful and careful not to get into tough situations. Always take a small hiking back with essentials and where good foot ware.

First time to NT property Ilam Park, at time of posting this 3:9:23 it’s was Β£5 for 4hrs parking or Β£7 all day! Some nice walks for my girls in their buggy, rather hot weather so constantly seeking today. Cafe gives you great views of the surrounding area.

Not really suitable for those with mobility issues. The Tea Room steps are very very dangerous especially when attempting to carry a tray of drinks. Also the outside seating area was badly infested with wasps and we were unable to sit outside. Otherwise it is a very attractive place to visit.

Nicely maintained and very relaxing environment having a beautiful piece of early ages architecture style surrounded by lush green landscape. You can access the space after entering onto site from main road following beautifully branding road while giving you the experience of the building existing in the landscape as jewel in a crown but park vehicle on a limited parking space provided for visitors and cannot access building.

Super scienic Hill park, stream , valley ,hills , Nature reserved. Anyhow would suggest to improve bits, develop naturally, swimming pool for kids with smooth surface may be sand , stepping stones to avoid blocking some rushing people, or have more crossing over stream , may be wood bridges. There is natural drinking water need to turn it to useable. BBQ area, waste Bins all around..please tnx

Didn't have long enough here - it is beautiful and has all the lovely facilities that NT provide. Did manage a lovely circular walk here though.

Absolutely stunning part of the world, we got there nice and early so managed to park up no problem . There was an Easter trail around the grounds which was very nice . Cafe selling coffee food and ice-cream and a little gift shop . Dovedale steeping stones are around a 2 mile walk away or you can drive but it gets very busy and limited parking

Made a brief visit to the village and as it was early morning, just went in the front gardens and the cloister below which was lovely. The lavender was in.full bloom. Very interesting buildings in the village. Good walks and there is one of one and a half miles to the stepping stones.

Our first time visiting Ilam Park. Car park is Β£5 for four hours parking, the machine is cash only but you can pay by card at the welcome hut or at the tearoom and bookshop just around the corner. We had a lovely walk around the park, the garden was smaller than I expected based off the photos but was still very lovely. Worth visiting if you’re in the area!

Large NT carpark with toilets, book shop and cafe in beautiful grounds. Good for walks to Dovedale and river manifold and the surrounding area which is breathtaking. Need to be reasonably mobile as cafe is up steps on garden.

Really nice place to enjoy a day out. There is a small cafe to enjoy lunch although it was quite pricey. Plenty of space to wonder around. Seating was a bit limited. You can comfortably walk to the steeping stones from here all the route is not pram/wheelchair friendly.

  • 5/5 Stewart L. 2 years ago on Google
Stunning views, great circular walk for families of smaller children with wishing Wells, Battle stones, animals and bridges over water to explore. 1.5mile walk to Dovedale Stepping Stones so plenty for a full day out.

National Trust property, stunning views to Thorpe Cloud. Nicely laid out garden in Italianate style. Friendly staff in the NT tearoom

When my wife and I visited this lovely site we were quite taken aback by both the wonderful views from the main property, and the architecture of the house itself. That being said, we found it quite confusing trying to get our bearings around the walks, and so we ended up going way too far and had to backtrack along the main road instead. Not only that but it wasn't clear if we could go I to the house itself, and so we decided not to try going in at all. I would rate Ilam Park much higher if the walks and house were more clearly signposted.

The gardens and park are ideal for walking, with very short walks or longer more challenging ones to choose from. The surrounding area is beautiful. Unfortunately the Hall itself is not open to the general public, as it operates as a Youth hostel/YMCA.

Lovely grounds with a high-level lavender and flower garden overlooking the lawn and church. The cafe had some nice food options, we had the curried cauliflower pasty and it was delicious. The circular walk takes you through some nice scenery and you can just about wrestle a buggy around it if it has large wheels to navigate some rocky and bumpy sections. The grounds have a lot of steps so not the best place to visit with a wheelchair or pushchair as you'll be quite limited in what you can see. Overall a pleasant way to pass a couple of hours.

Simply stunning place!! Set in the awesome peak district, Ilam has it in spades when it comes to views, beauty, architecture. walks. Not far to the stepping stones and Dovedale. Great place to set off from for a walk, or have a picnic in the grounds! Nice tea rooms if you forgot your picnic though. ☺️

Our second visit to this amazing place. We did the spooky trail and made the most of the extensive ground to explore with our little boy. We all had a great ramble round and then went for a bite to eat in the lovely tea room.

Picked a quiet time to enjoy this beautiful Country Park. Glorious walks on site and also nearby Dovedale & Milldale. Cafe open from 10a.m. and excellent 2nd hand book shop too. We'll be back.

Great place. A very beautiful place to visit. Picturesque and pretty. Worth visiting. A nice cafe up there as well where you can get food and drinks. The staff at the cafe are very cordial.

  • 5/5 Jamie S. 2 years ago on Google
Lovely little place, the scenery is stunning. Advise taking cash, as they don't have contactless/card facilities (in the book shop(probably owing to the lack of Internet connection)). Didn't venture into the cafe, so don't know if there is a card machine in there. There are maps, so if you wanted to walk to Dovedale, you can. There's also a mile walk around Ilam Park, should you choose to do. Both of these are on my to do list. The car park is a decent size, we arrived around dinner time and there was plenty of space in the overflow. NT members have free parking.
