Good opportunity to hear of a history that perhaps we don’t encounter accessibly. The museum’s arquitecture is representative of the neighborhood and it stands tall in its mustard yellow and brown brightness. The Iverca association is commended for its efforts in making the place’s and its people history be known.
Bom
Small, only in Portuguese though we had a guide. You definitely see a different perspective of both past and present life in Mafalala. I came away humbled and appreciative of my lot in life.
I had a walk around the neighbourhood with guide Amina? (I'm not sure of the spelling). Ended by seeing the Mafalala museum. What struck me the most was how much the inhabitants are doing to improve the environment.
I only went there for the tour. I can't remember his name but the guy really did a great job. We felt safe with him and he knows everyone in the community. He was teaching me some words and I also thought him a few words. Truly amazing but I will past a pic it's the african guy i think you'll notice him
Small but some nice art, and if you take the tour you will learn the history of Maputo. Beware it is in a township and large vehicles will struggle to get in and out the gate
Amazing place. Museu Mafalala has become a home away from home. The Backpacker's is amazing.
The actual Lodge is fine, but the surroundings leaves a lot to be desired. Entrance is too tight and no indications on the road to show directions. Even Google GPS battled to get me to the entrance of the hotel.
Quaint, cultural rich... a jewel immersed in a real environment... the part of Maputo few get to see.
Beautifully constructed using materials important to the neighborhood, this museum is a treasure. Stories of events and individuals of great important to the history of Maputo (and Moz at large) are contained between these walls. I plan to go back for some of the events hosted here regularly. A must-see if you are interested in the story of this great city.
One of the bright spots in Mafalala and Maputo. The building is nice, although it is located around and area that doesn't seem to receive a lot of care nor attention. But history is there. As explained this place is part of NGO project. That may explain the 500 MT entry fee for foreigners. It's not that big, but the super nice lady there accompanied me and explained each part in details. The history of Maputo and what colonisers did to it and its people. Great break from the city back in time. It's recommended.
