Delayed review: the airport is descent not much happening in terms of shops and there was no wifi. Be careful of the currency exchange shops they tried to scam me but luckily im smart! They use a trick where they pretend to work fast and want to appear as if they are helping you fast and wanna get the queue going but they are giving you the wrong amount! Advice- take your time and cohnt your money
This country is probably ok for bus tourism (airport-hotel-beach-bar) but it's definitely not friendly, or even safe, for self-driving in national parks and nature reserves. First of all, parks have security issues in general, it seems. During 3 days of driving inside the Maputo Special Reserve (aka Parque Nacional de Maputo), not a single ranger was seen on duty in the field. Instead, we did see some dodgy looking guys, definitely not tourists or park workers. Animals are scarce, a sign of frequent poaching. Not a big variety too: we saw standard antelopes, giraffes, warthogs, and elephant's poo. Park management and officers are absolute sharks, they focus not on poachers but on drivers, and apply exorbitant fines even for small infringements. Our neighbors on a campsite in the Parque Nacional de Maputo parked their car on a sand spot with some vegetation and plastic rubbish. Promptly they were given a fine 40000 meticals (10000 rand or 500 eur), for "driving on dunes". Their passports and car keys were confiscated until they paid. They never received any payment receipt either ("no electricity at the moment, come later"), so it's quite clear where did their money go. Some cars are getting searched from top to bottom, without any warrant or explanation. Rangers go through every piece of luggage, so don't bring anything which can be considered illegal in national park. (God knows what can be considered illegal in national parks at any given moment). Restaurant food is below average in terms of quality, yet it's more expensive than in neighboring countries.
It's nice airport looks very nice and had huge parking area in front has separate building for domestic and internal flights. Nedd some good management to have it clean like wash room and Air conditioning etc overall its good airport and not too much crowded when ever I travelled except I see long line at the check in counter
Good airport. Not enough shops/restaurants while you wait for your flight. Could be bigger and better but the little it is is perhaps enough to get you where you want to go.
Fairly efficient. There were only a couple of people working the visa desk, but once we got our visas, it was smooth sailing. You can pay for your visa with a credit card. Immigration was smooth, as was baggage claim (there are only two belts). Be prepared to wait for the ATM though. The taxis are basic sedans, so if you are four with a bag each, you may need two taxis!
Small airport acceptable for job traveling food average not bad
By African standards its not bad. Clean. Staff seem friendly and immigration and security were quite good. No nonsense. Didn't get to try any of the outlets or restaurant options but it looked decent.
The airport is not to big and when a big flight arrives, things become chaotic despite the efforts of staff and public services. The immigration officials are very friendly and empathic. Customs officials are very professional and diligent. Mozambique is growing up fast and in the next few years the airport will respond to the needs. The check-in is totally confusing and no information available. The screens do not work. The inspection is excellent. Policy officials are well trained and treat passengers with courtesy and respect. Five stars 🌟 for the police.
