I’d been craving Ethiopian food and this is one of the few places in the Boston area. The food was good (but not quite as mind blowing as I remember other Ethiopian places being) and vegetarian friendly. We got the veggie platter for 2 and the appetizer with cottage cheese which definitely had a spicy kick! It wasn’t really my favorite; the spice was a strange spice paired with the cottage cheese. The peanut tea was delicious and creamy and sweet. Staff was super nice and the location is perfect for a pre-BSO meal.

A small and unassuming Ethiopian restaurant. We ordered the chicken dorowat combo for two and it was delicious. The chicken was tender and nicely seasoned, but I would’ve preferred more sauce since the injera absorbed a lot and it dried up. The chicken was also slightly undercooked, and still slightly pink in the middle. Each side dish has its own unique flavor, and was presented well. Portion wise, I would’ve prefer more chicken in proportion to the sides, but I was full by the end. Overall pretty good, but could improve.

This was our 2nd time eating here - the 1st time was lunch the day after Thanksgiving 2021. We still had to wear masks at the time due to covid-19 restrictions. Today, no masks, we could smell the food as we walked in the doors. A nice young man find us a table & cleaned it for us. We ordered the traditional Ethiopian espresso, no milk, the beef combo for 2 with red lentil, split pea, spinach, carrot & potato & chick pea sauce! The host, Gibmay, remembered us & where we sat 4 months ago! The food, the environment, the music, the family serving the food are beautiful & authentic! Highly recommend! Will certainly be back very soon. Thank you!

$60 for 3 people and we had food leftover. Everything was perfectly seasoned. The lamb was tasty. The collard greens and lentils and cabbage were my favorites. The side of cottage cheese was only $1! Extra Injera was only $2! The iced tea tastes like ginger and honey and maybe cinnamon. Super convenient location too, as it’s right near the reflecting pool and fenway and the Pru! I LOVE this place!!!

The food tasted good, but I ordered and pid for the 4 vegetable option and only got 3 vegetables. My husband ordered the chicken option, but his chicken was one very tiny chicken leg 🍗 . The portions were smaller than I have gotten at other Ethiopian restaurants. The serving of injera was just enough for the portion size I was given. (There is a charge for extra injera.)

Our food took over 30 minutes to arrive, and it was underwhelming. However, our drinks arrived slightly earlier, and the traditional tea and peanut tea were both good. We ordered three combos, including beef, lamb, and chicken, each coming with sides. The portions were decent and the waitress was very nice, but the food was definitely not worth the commute and the wait, which was rather disappointing. Despite the glowing reviews from others, the food simply did not live up to our expectations. We likely will not come back again.

Modest restaurant opposite Symphony Hall. Great, authentic Ethiopian food at reasonable prices. Ate vegetarian dishes and the lamb dish. Very flavorful!

Lucy's is one of the better Ethiopian spots in Boston. They have a good selection of dishes that are optimised for varying group sizes. The staff are lovely as well as the decor. We strongly recommend getting the Doro Wot and the Mesir Wot as they were the best parts of our meal. Full of flavour and spice!

Delicious Ethiopian food! The service was also very friendly and there were many vegetarian options as well as savory meat dishes to eat with their injera. The atmosphere is very casual, and the dining space would benefit from more cozy furniture, lighting, and flooring to create a more inviting ambience. Otherwise, wonderful, yummy food!

Delicious, healthy food! I just wish for the price of the mango juice we could get more. I was expecting it to be fresh mango juice but I’m pretty sure it came out of a carton.

Owner is very rude and has the most nastiest attitude I've ever seen in any human being. Terrible customer service and very unsanitized! I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND!!!

There is a bad attitude in this restaurant towards a member of their own Ethiopian community even though they use the name "Ethiopian" cafe & restaurant for their business, I had a horrible experience in this restaurant when I tried to pick up my ordered food, the front service guy had intentionally tried to humiliate me and let me to wait when he saw another white person who came after me, so when I picked my food he grabbed my hand up to my shirt tore and my covid face mask fall off plus insulted me and he was about to fight with me for no reason, then I called to the police, all this happened just for the sake of under $20 food. I don't recommend this cafe especially for Ethiopians.

Come with a friend so you can share a veggie or meat combo! Food is amazing and it's easily accessible by transit, so it's perfect for a meal before a show. Friendly staff, clean bathroom. Try the peanut tea, too.

Great food! Also, I had ordered from them through Uber Eats and had a major item missing from my order. When I sent a complaint through the app they got back to me in 30 minutes and initiated a refund. So great customer help as well.

Wow! Fabulous food - highly recommended! Many vegan options. We had the veggie combo for two. More food than we could eat - seven different dishes with the wonderful Ethiopian bread, injera. So delicious! And friendly proprietors as well.

First time trying Ethiopian food and had an overall good experience at Lucy. Came for lunch at noon on a Sunday after a snow storm so we were one of two groups there. Setting: nothing special. Tile floor in the bottom of a building on Mass Ave. You don't come to the Ethiopian restaurants for the ambiance. Service: Very nice waitress who gave us an extra side dish...it pays to be nice to people! Food: So for those who haven't had Ethiopian food before, it often comes on this thin bread called Injera (made from Teff flour). You use the bread, which is chewy, to scoop up all the yummy flavors in front of you. We ordered the combo for two which came with well-spiced beef chunks in the middle surrounded by lentils, potatoes, spinach, chickpea, and collard greens. The beef was my favorite part of the meal but I was slightly disappointed that the injera and some of the sides weren't warm...I expected everything to be at least warm, if not hot. The flavors were there across the board, just the temperature of the food could be improved (perhaps it was a fluke!). Definitely not a place to take a first date...it's hard to have good manners eating Ethiopian food.

There is no lamb in my Firfir. I ordered for deliveries. I never seen Ethiopian restaurant like this before they took so long and also only give out one on injera With both meals and in the doro wot too. I am not happy with my food. I definitely had better Ethiopian food out of state before

The injera is some of the best I have had. Also the spinach is very unique as it’s cooked with, I think, cinnamon.

Lucy’s is amazing. The food is a rarity for the area, but is worth a commute from across the city to try. The bread, while nothing like any other I’ve had, wasted tasty, chewy, and the perfect vehicle to eat the mix of vegetables and meats. We asked for the favorites of the staff, and they had a nice conversation with us to figure out just what would be best, and I have to say it was one of the best meals I’ve had in the area. And with enough to fill leftovers for later. Certainly fatty and meaty, but a nice splurge spot and even a decent low-key date spot to show off your knowledge of Boston’s little gems.

Incredible place—I lived right around the corner for two years, and, man, was I lucky. The staff is so sweet, and the service is wicked fast, which makes it great for dates, lunch-break outings (remember those?), and shameless Sunday nights when all you want to do is order in and watch a movie. I've been missing Lucy since I moved, so you can best believe I got takeout when I was back in Boston for an appointment. Long live Lucy.

This is food that makes you feel good. I tried the veg platter for two. As many others have stated it was excellent. I got it through delivery and it held up perfectly. Not only was the food delicious but also a very generous portion.

First time having Ethiopian food and It was great. I’ve spoke to friends about it and showed them what I ordered and they looked interested into trying the “ Lamb fir fir “. Obviously, I will be coming back to try the rest of the menu

The food was soooo good! This was my first time trying Ethiopian food, so I asked the man behind the counter what he recommended and we were not left disappointed! We had a yummy variety of meats and veggies, and especially enjoyed the lamb, red spicy lentils, chickpeas, and both the lemon ginger and the peanut tea! The atmosphere was relaxed and included beautiful Ethiopian art & artifacts, some for sale. Looking forward to another day when I'm just passing by so I can swing in to grab an iced peanut tea! (I'm already obsessed!) Will definitely be coming back! This will be a great spot to bring my vegetarian/vegan friends!

Amazing! Perfect for takeout during covid. Highly recommend attkilt combo for veggies and miser besga for meat with lentils. Comes with lots of injera; so good! More than enough for 2 people. Quick and efficient to-go.

What a delicious meal! Everything was fresh and so, so good! We had both a vegetable combo and a Doro Wot combo and both were excellent. The injera was fabulous. A friendly server greeted us and the restaurant has a simple and lovely decor. Perhaps because it was very cold out the restaurant has trouble heating the space but it was SO cold. Everyone had their coats on...fully zipped up, hats and scarves on, too! Otherwise, I'd give the five stars. Try it on a day that isn't 8 degrees :-) We were so hungry I forgot to grab a photo before we dove in...maybe our devoured platter can show you how good it was!

It is completely clean, service is lovely and attentive and happy to answer questions and share. The food is top notch. The misor wat was great, we had spinach and potatoes that were stunning and tasted like cinnamon. I am still dreaming about the fit fit . . So so good! This is a great destination and conveniently located. Prices were very reasonable for the amount of food and the number of dishes

Great place. Delicious food (I tried the Combo for 1 w/lamb, miser wot & gomen along with coffee). I appreciated the gentle correction of pronunciation as well as the offering of Amharic phrases on the board. The visual art was stunning & for sale by, I imagine, local artists.

Really cool atmosphere and a fun experience. My father and I went before attending the symphony. We shared a two person combo with the beef and would definitely get it again. Worth stopping by for some of their food and possibly a cup of peanut tea if you're into that :).

Food was great, good value for a quick lunch. Service, ambiance, location are all great. Nothing super remarkable, but definitely left satisfied. Would be amazing if could try a little bit more of everything w/ slightly smaller portions of each. Definitely enough to make me want to come back.

Ordered all vegetarian items on the menu but the food was okay in taste. Some of the lentil items were too spicy except yellow split pea and the potatoes were not completely cooked in any of the 3 items.

  • 5/5 Stefanie N. 5 years ago on Google
They catered a large office party and did an INCREDIBLE job. Everything was delicious, came well-labeled with information for people new to Ethiopian food, and the staff could not have been more pleasant to work with. 5/5 would absolutely call again for catering!

  • 5/5 Julia H. 4 years ago on Google
I got a combo for one with the lega tips, kik alicha, and spinach, and a mango juice. I'm not sure what the spices were in the spinach but one of them I didn't really vibe with. The rest was delicious, though, perfect food for a rainy day, in a really nice place with art and music. Probably more fun to go with other people, but still good alone, especially with the kind staff.

We were at this place on December 6th. Food is great and we loved it. But had an unpleasant experience. The chairs are so flimsy that one of the leg snapped and I fell on the floor. The leg of the chair broke in half. Please make sure to provide comfortable and sturdy seating to enjoy the meals.

Superb cuisine, especially the yesemir watt and their spinach. Unusual to not have injera on the plate beneath the dishes, so budget your watt-to-injera ratio accordingly.
