I recently stayed in the top suite. It was alright, but would have liked a balcony for the price. Probably the best part of the hotel is the bar in the middle of the structure. It is very central, to the botanical gardens and harbour walks

The hotel is very tired and feels grotty. We stayed in a loft room. The room and bathroom had a dirty musty foul smell about it. (The towels were fresh and clean though) The bed was saggy and lumpy - it just felt all very old and run down. We are not sure how the hotel is trying to position itself in the market - but for us it lacked class, sophistication, maintenance and proper cleaning. We were given a cheap plastic yo-yo and a bottle of wine with a handwritten note that said ‘let’s get drunk’ attached to it. It all felt quite unsophisticated and unprofessional - and to be frank made us feel uncomfortable. The location is good for access to the harbour, but there are far better options available for next time. Do your research and make sure you are comfortable with what you might be getting for your money.

This is a great hotel. In more than 30 years of staying at hotels this is the first time that I have experienced two things. One, a complimentary mini bar (and a very well stocked one), and two, the hotel GM meets you when you check out to find out what you loved and didn’t like about the hotel. Lots of other great features like art, breakfast, free sweets, etc etc. Keep up the great work. Other hotels need to up their game

Hotel has a nice vibe. My first time staying here. Note breakfast is only included if booking direct through hotel, so I didn’t have breakfast here. I was told by the counter staff that it would have been included if I booked direct. I was given probably the worst room (503) A view of a roof and a road. Not a patch of ocean to be seen. The room was small and the paint work was tired. It was however lovely and clean and the free minibar and snacks was a welcome inclusion. I had to ring reception at 11.30pm (twice) as thumping music was shaking my walls :/ The room was also quite noisy most of the night. I’m not sure if it was the air conditioner motor outside but it wasn’t fun. Won’t bother staying again which is a shame as I often visit Sydney for business.

I had the pleasure of staying at a hotel that offered a range of positive aspects. Firstly, the room I stayed in was a cozy loft with a unique layout. The bedroom was located upstairs, providing a sense of privacy, and there was a full bathroom conveniently situated on the same level. This arrangement enhanced my overall comfort and enjoyment during my stay. One of the standout features of the hotel was its breathtaking view of the city and harbor. Waking up to such an amazing vista was truly awe-inspiring and added to the overall charm of the location. Additionally, the hotel's proximity to the city and nearby attractions made it convenient for exploring and experiencing the local sights and activities. The service at the hotel was exceptional, with the staff going above and beyond to ensure a pleasant stay. They were friendly, attentive, and always willing to assist with any requests or inquiries. The hotel also offered a great selection of fine dining options and waterfront restaurants, providing a variety of culinary experiences with picturesque views. The artistic design of the hotel was a standout feature, as it showcased a rich history and culture. The ambiance created by the artistic elements added a unique touch and made the stay more memorable. While there were many positive aspects, it is important to note a minor drawback. The couch in the room was in need of replacement, as it exhibited stains and appeared quite old. However, this did not significantly detract from the overall experience. In conclusion, my stay at the hotel was a delightful one. The cozy loft room with its unique layout, stunning city and harbor view, excellent service from the friendly staff, diverse dining options, and the artistic design rich in history and culture all contributed to a memorable experience. Despite the minor issue with the couch, I would highly recommend this hotel for its overall positive attributes.

5 star prices for 3 star amenities. If you want to know why check out the 1 star reviews. Dinner at the restaurant was one of the worst meals we've ever had. We won't be back. The room was run down. The carpet and furniture were stained, clapped out and in need of replacement. The brightest part of the room was right above the bed due to it being physically impossible to block out the sunlight in that area. So, as soon as the sun rose the room became as bright as day making it impossible to continue sleeping.

Literally nothing good to say about this hotel. My boyfriend booked us there and he was so upset to have paid $600 for the experience we received. As part of our stay, we were meant to be provided with breakfast, complimentary mini bar and social hour in the bar. The mini bar was laughable. It is the smallest, most miserable offering. Same deal for the breakfast. The worst spread you could imagine. Social "hour" was 1 drink per person of low quality (cheap beers or wines). Those "benefits" as they call them are a gimmick to get bookings, they hold no value and actually cheapen the hotel and the brand. If people are paying over $600 for a night, they want quality and premium offering. The Ovolo charges premium but cannot back it up in the rest of the hotel, having cheap offering from mini bar, bar and restaurant. The room was also ran down for that price. The bar as the room looked ran down and had no vibe at all. The restaurant isn't really a restaurant, it's weirdly designed and feels very awkward. Don't waste your money there.

This is our favourite hotel in Sydney. Great location. Friendly staff and little add on extras like free mini bar, loot bag and free happy hour. The hotel has a very nice blend of history and art. The local neighbourhood is awesome - on the harbour and within walking distance of the City. Breakfast buffet is cool too. No other place comes close. It’s top of the range - it is expensive but you get what you pay for 😀

We stayed here Thursday to Sunday. There was a wedding on both Friday and Saturday nights. The music was so loud it was like it was being played in our room. They finished just after 11 but then music continued in the empty restaurant on Saturday night till midnight. Overall the service and rooms were good. Minibar was a nice touch. But a wedding 2/3 of our nights ruined it. Don’t stay if you need a whole nights sleep.

A nice stay at Ovolo. Breakfast was great, lots of veg options. Room was spacious and well equipped. There wasn't any input from any cable TV channels such as CNN, or finance channels, only free to air was available, all others displayed no signal. Reception staff advised the hotel doesn't have cable and this is normal, a first I've seen in a high-end hotel. The team were very friendly, watch for the sneaky credit card surcharge, beyond what is charged by the merchant. Décor is nice, close proximity to the city centre. The building has a rich history and stylish rooms and hip vibe. The hot water in the shower was unstable and required some precise adjustment to keep the temperature steady. Free minibar was great, solid offering which was a nice addition to the stay.

This hotel was so great! I stayed in the suite and was really pleasant. Only problem was that the shower had a bit of mould in the top corner. I told the staff And then they solved it quickly

Amazing hotel in a great central location. Easy walk to Botanical gardens,CBD and Sydney Opera House. Bus stop and taxis just outside hotel. Staff were very welcoming and friendly, the hotel was clean and tidy, with interesting decor and amazing facilities. Swimming pool and gym were well set up. The beds were very comfortable and rooms quiet. Good quality sound system/ tv set up. Loved the extra special touches- free mini bar, welcome drink, sweet trolley and goodie bag, plus a lovely throw to take home. The breakfast was superb, great choice of fruit, cereals, breads and cooked eggs. We didn’t try the plant based restaurant, so can’t vouch for it! Have already recommended to friends and family 😍

Amazing location for my 10 year wedding anniversary. The room was superb. It was the small things that made this stay memorable, like free minibar and midnight snacks left in the room. The thing I'll remember is how kind the staff are. Special shout out to reception and Miguel who brought our phone chargers up from our car when we realised we forgot. Ps we are in room 414 and the view is amazing

THE worst hotel we have ever stayed at (By a mile). Service at the front desk was terrible and our room wasn't ready on time. They said they would call and they didn't so we only got in the room after 4pm. The room was very dirty and the furniture was just gross. We couldn't even sit on the sofa, it was so stained. Management must have blinkers on to not notice that. The bathrooms were in a very bad state (mold, stained tiles next to the toilet, tap falling off) and the worst regulation of temperature we had ever experienced. It took a good 3 real minutes to get the temperature rising and then to adjust it, an other 2 minutes. Environmental nightmare wasting that water. The lighting in the bathroom was very poor, probably to hide the filth of that hotel. The "bar" downstairs was similar to the rooms, unclean and sofas full of stains. It looks like a garden junk yard sale. Really not an inviting place to be. The food was of poor quality throughout the hotel and vegan only. I felt like we were on a bad episode of candid camera and the Ovolo people said: "Right... Let's charge $500 for a super dirty, ran down room, provide awful service, not let people check-in on time, cook only bad vegan food in a terrible looking and dirty cafeteria like place and film people's reaction. It'll be fun... Avoid at all costs.

What a treat what a delight ; this place is absolutely gorgeous. From the moment you booked to actual walk in - the staff make you feel home away from home . They take care of everything. Service is impeccable. The rooms are cozy and surprisingly large . The best part is they even thought of a yoga mat for those guests that need to train daily. Love it would highly recommend it and will always book here at wooloomooloo again as it’s next door to Syd finest restaurants.

WORST hotel bar and restaurant ever! The place has not aged well, it looks like a cheap IKEA showroom. The concept is vegan and the place is completely deserted. On a Friday night there would have been 4 people in the restaurant. The bar staff were miserable and unable to do a drink. For a place that big in such a good location, they have really messed it up. We visited back in 2018 and it was great. Place has gone down hill big time.

Lovely staff and very trendy decor and design with lots of LEDs. There was a mix-up with my booking because I made a mistake in my online booking and contacted the hotel to correct the issue. I'm not complaining because it was an upgrade in the end, and the staff were all extremely helpful and friendly over email and in person. Having vegetarian/vegan dining at a hotel was great, and rwally enjoyed my breakfast downstairs and the burger I had for dinner. There was a wedding on during my stay, so the communal areas were very loud and overwhelming in the evening, but it was very nice and peaceful in the morning. My only real complaint is that even with the aircon cranked up, it was still hot in the room. I stayed in March, and the humidity in the lobby area was stifling at times, but I'm not used to the humidity. I was also informed that there were issues with the laundry facilities, which was unfortunate as this was my second week of a very sweaty holiday. I would definitely recommend checking out the hotel and restaurants if it piques your curiosity. It was definitely a unique experience but may not suit people looking for more traditional 5-star accommodation.

It's a really bad place to stay. The rooms are old, dirty and worn. Our carpet in the room was falling apart and have a big pink stain on it. The sofa was ripped and the room was dusty. The bathroom was the worst. Tiles cracked, moldy, Broken silicon strip, AWFUL water pressure and certainly not environment friendly as it takes 5 minutes of water running before you get the temperature you want. The gym is located in a weird spot, quite far from the rooms and the equipment is in very poor condition. The changing rooms were filthy to the point where you wouldn't be comfortable getting in the shower without flip flops. Service was frustrating, dialing 9 to speak to reception and nobody ever picked up. Soooo annoying having to go up and down every time you needed something. The bar was nice but it was just so quiet there that we didn't stay. Weird that on a weekend, they are so quiet in that bar. Breakfast the following morning was terrible. A selection of cheap stuff served on a buffet that surely wouldn't pass the health safety check. For what is advertised as a 5 star (NO WAY) the breakfast selection was a joke. My partner asked if they had other items but they didn't. We ended up going to the city to buy breakfast although it was meant to be included in our room. The most disappointing stay at a hotel we have ever had. The only 5 star aspect is the price. The experience doesn't even deserve a 1 star review.

Wow loved this hotel. We had a great time and loved our room. We got the loft suite and it was perfect! The restaurant is great and our Higgre experience made it perfect! Highly recommend this hotel it’s walkable to everything and super easy to find.

I've long been a fan of boutique hotels...but this one has it all. The staff were friendly and helpful... happily delivering items we had forgotten for our quick stay, it has a dog friendly policy (I'll consider bringing the pooch next time), great location yet still feels tucked away, the views and amenities are fantastic, rooms are stylish yet comfy, hood facilities for work stuff, it has an atmospheric and tasty resturant (Alibi), perks such as free snacks and minibar, and all the inner city vibe/food/bars only minutes walk away. My only regret... not staying longer.

Booked because it was a lot cheaper but still saying 5*. I don’t think it is - rooms are nice enough, a king room is fairly big with view of either city or naval ships. Hotel has absolutely no life. Central atrium space has a restaurant and bar but only a few people - compared to full restaurants and pub outside. Restaurant is “vegan” !! I’m all for heathy eating but absolutely no choice for people who aren’t vegan. No wonder only 4 people in there. The building used to be a W Hotel and was really cool. Since then half of it has been turned into apartments, and the pool/gym is effectively in the apartment side so you have to walk through the atrium past the empty bar and empty restaurant, in through a door, down in a lift to get to pool. Pool ok. Has a guest laundry room with 2 washers and 2 dryers which is nice, unfortunately the air vent smells like an open drain which means you have to hold your breath.. We checked in at 2.30, they said rooms not ready until 3… walked outside got a drink phone text at exactly 3pm saying room ready. I didn’t see any housekeeping staff in the landings so seems unlikely they finished “all” the rooms at exactly 3pm, or reception just being pedantic. Outside there are 3/4 restaurants on the city side - nothing to do with hotel, varying styles - one thing in common they are very expensive - cheapest bottle of wine $79 in one, which I went across to the bottle shop and it was $21. So if you avoid the very expensive restaurants there is absolutely no where to go without getting a taxi or a long walk. So overall, can’t see why 5*, can’t see why 4.5 on google, and would not stay again.

Very trendy hotel however I wouldn't recommend to stay here, i personally found the bed way too soft that i couldn't sleep well, the fan in the bathroom didn't work so everything was always wet and difficult to get ready. slight modifications would make this hotel a good stay

Great hotel in a lovely location. Only a short walk to the centre of town or a short walk to Darlington. Only stayed one night in a duplex loft suite but everything was good. I think we probably won’t choose the loft suite next time we visit as the stairs to the bedroom were a bit of a nuisance. Great amenities and free mini bar

Well, this is a very special place. From the second we arrived, to check out - it was a brilliant experience. The staff are fantastic. Sadly I can't remember the name of the gent that checked us in. Perhaps Kevin? He was very polite and actually introduced himself to us properly. I had a prior concern about arriving early and our luggage. He sorted everything for us. We were offered an upgrade - due to timing, and we took it (at a small cost). The loft suites on level 5 are fantastic. The pool and spa were great. Clean with an abundance of towels. The staff are all very friendly and always doing little things to help. The mini bar (complimentary) was great for a night cap and the "loot bag" was a great little treat. The atmosphere of the building - and knowing its history, is really interesting. You have this modern accommodation, in an old wharf. We found it fascinating. Touching the timber structure near the elevators, you know your touching over 100 year old hard wood - that's pretty cool. The only things i could fault the place on was two things. Firstly, the shelf in the shower wasn't clean. Secondly, two of the wine glasses had greasy fingerprints on them. In saying that, if it was the only thing wrong with the place, overall it's a winner. It's not every night you stay in a very comfortable place like this and look out your window at a Navy Destroyer. Again, this is a very special place. We WILL stay again.

This is one of the best hotels in Sydney that I will keep coming back for, the friendly staff and funky decor are amazing. The fact that it is super dog friendly is also fantastic. The menu is entirely vegetarian, so if you love animals and ethical food and fantastic friendly service this is your kind of place

The most memorable stay ever! The staff are so kind and make you feel like family. It feels very genuine and the atmosphere is extremely relaxing and easy going. The rooms are super spacious and the interior design makes you feel very luxurious. Highly recommend for anyone :)

Absolutely love this place. Firstly, all of the staff are amazing, great customer service, extremely accomodating and very friendly. The rooms are great, always clean, beautiful views and really nice. The bar and breakfast is amazing. They went above and beyond for mine and my partners anniversary with even a handwritten card when we entered the room. Would come back here again and again!

Fabulous location and lovely views. Thoroughly enjoyed all the included perks. The breakfast buffet was small but had everything most would need. Mini bar, goodie bag and lollies meant I had very little need to purchase extra snacks during my stay. I have stayed at other Ovolo hotels and can see everyone here trying really hard to provide good service despite all the COVID challenges, so while I didn't feel totally pampered I completely understand.

  • 5/5 a b. 2 years ago on Google
Very nice location, unique hotel layout with the pier. Staff were all very kind and always looked to help. The various benefits such as the free minibar (even restocked every day), lolly bar or the super fast wifi, the entire stay was very enjoyable. Moreover, although I was initially a little apprehensive with the vegetarian breakfast buffet, I found the buffet to be very delicious and fulfilling. The rooms were very clean, with the safe fitting several electronic devices. The swimming pool was nice, with the cabana outside a nice touch. However, during my stay (4 nights) the lift closest to my room was under maintenance, meaning it was a little inconvenient. Also, the water temperature of the shower in my room took a bit of time to respond to the cold and hot taps being turned, and the shower in the men's changing room in the swimming pool only used hot water, even when I only turned the cold tap. Nonetheless, these minor vexations did not dampen what was a great stay at Ovolo.

The service was amazing and couldn’t fault the room either. My partner and I felt like we had been away from Melbourne longer than the 2 days, which is testament to the level of service and how welcoming the staff are. Will definitely be staying here again when we are back in Sydney!!! Thank you for an amazing weekend

I wrote a review almost 4 weeks ago that was replied to only a couple of days ago. I mentioned the bad and rude service we have received on a couple of occasions and the fact that they have only vegan options which themselves are not enjoyable. I have nothing against vegan but their version of vegan isn’t good. The written reply is so condescending and not apologising and even worse not even acknowledging the rude and bad service. That reply from management makes me realise why the staff are rude. It’s obviously driven from the top. No wonder why your bar and restaurant are dead when the wharf and pubs around it are doing well. Keep your blinkers on. You can be sure I’ll never set foot in your venue again. Pathetic.

  • 5/5 Jaimie R. 2 years ago on Google
The team at Ovolo are amazing! They all go above and beyond for guests and remember small details. The rooms are clean and spacious and the water views are a nice touch. The breakfast is scrumptious with an all vegetarian menu.

Unusual and quirky hotel given its location inside Finger Wharf. Friendly and helpful staff, clean room, good food and service. Location includes easy access to city. World class walks along the harbour and gardens to Opera House and city. Excellent selection of great restaurants in the same wharf as are a variety of pubs and other eateries close by. Overall we enjoyed our stay. We stayed in a Loft room where the bed is on a mezzanine level looking into a living area. The upstairs space is very limited as is storage. Bathroom is small, no room for two people but shower is a good size. Stairs are steep and may not suit everyone. But this is compensated by another toilet downstairs, clothes cupboard, good space including table, chairs and large lounge that does have a pull out bed. Only allocated three stars due to excessive list of maintenance issues in room.

Such a welcoming hotel; at first. Front desk, and concierge staff are incredible and friendly. However we paid what is an extortionate amount for a single night, in a basic room ($750/1 Night) - we was sold into this rate based on being able to bring our dog along for a staycation (which you pay $80 extra for the privilege, this fee is fine, I get it). The hotel is sold and heavily advertised as dog friendly, however once you’re in your room that’s about as friendly as it gets. Even though you sign a disclaimer that you’ll only sit in the “inner circle” of the hotel bar, it doesn’t inform you that after 630pm the hotel is no longer accepting of pets. Room service also becomes limited from this time - so you really are stuck for options. I totally understand the hygiene laws, and the needs of other guests surrounding pets - however this hotel was sold in as being pet friendly (again, at an extra cost) , which it is - and then it is not. Overall it’s a very welcoming and interesting hotel, but for the price per night, and the misinformation around pets - i would prefer another hotel, such as Pier One.

We loved this hotel a lot. The rooms and the shared area where the restaurant and bar located is very well designed and so cosy. The cocktails are in the bar were great. There are reverting here I except from a hotel. We are very happy with all personnel as well. Especially the room service did very good job. I will definitely will come back and stay in another branches of the hotel.

We used to LOVE this place but it has seriously gone down hill big time. We stayed in room 307 and it was like being in a night club. Above the function room. The staff were poor in executing any request this time around. We had stayed twice before Covid and it was amazing. Things have certainly taken a turn for the worse. Avoid it!

We came for high tea at Alibi and it was amazing! The food was beautiful, as was the tea. The price was reasonable and the service was outstanding. The lady running the high tea on the 4th of June (Saturday) was just wonderful. Could not speak higher of our experience.

The Hotel was Lovely. One of the most unique and beautiful hotels I've ever been to. The rooms we're so clean, the reception staff was so friendly. The environment is worth capturing in your phones.

Room did not have a harbour view though booking said so, bathroom hand basin and wall above hand basin dirty. Though on top floor, could hear music from second floor bar, in the room. Jetlagged?Forget sleep. You have to use your own TV streaming accounts as they have none. TV difficult to use. Credit card deposit takes up to three (3) days to refund apparently. Let's see how that goes. Awful experience.

Food is good. Went for a wedding here, we had a blast. However service wasn't very great or minimal. Either they lack of staff, unsure. There isn't much of introduction of food, it was just placed on the table. The Staff wasnt around to give attention to us or try to help circling food or pouring wine. We basically self serve, doesn't feel like premium or worth the value. Probably will recommend for a regular small dinner but not big party like wedding.

Booked for a friend and her husband visiting Sydney from overseas. The hotel was designed by her company and it did have really cool vibes. There was a bit of a mix-up by reception in regards to the booking but they sorted it out and also gave extra perks as an apology, which was much appreciated. The view and walks around the area is great, but i did notice it was a bit far from the trains. Overall a very memorable stay.

Fun, friendly hotel and staff, great place to stay with kids. Spacious rooms, quirky artwork, candy bar, great gym and pool with fun games to play in the lobby. Clean room with a lovely view. Brilliant walks at the door and a lovely restaurant and bar in the lobby. (Avoid the Italian restaurant across the road, plenty of other great places to eat).

So happy I stayed here. Hotel is so cool and all the little touches just make the stay. Avocado on the breakfast buffet was the best. Pool amazing. Location amazing. The rooms are so cosy and all the tech you need. One thing I'd say is maybe have some vegan pastries or something else vegan at the buffet. The staff were so kind and friendly. 100% recommended.

I absolutely love this hotel. Contemporary style, great location. I was here for a wedding, the food was excellent. The bar staff were not very experienced on account of COVID, but everything else was first rate. Totes fo'shizzle will be back here. Even the shampoo and so on is in bottles they can refill - one thing I normally hate about hotel stays is the waste of these things and this place does something about it. Bloody unreal night.
