Beware of a 5% surcharge even for paying cash. I went to order another beer $24 and a desert $13 and gave $37 cash only to be told I needed to pay another $1.85. I asked why and the bar staffer said didn't the other bar staffer tell you there is a 5% surcharge... I said no. I still don't know why it was a surcharge for cash. At other restaurants cash sometimes gets a 5% discount, never a surcharge. I have been to the other Bavarian at miranda about 2yrs ago and don't remember a surcharge for cash. Also there were many (~20%) menu items unavailable on this occasion, again don't remember so many items being unavailable previously. The desert was good so you get 1 star.

If you want an epic German feast, then head to this venue. The classic German dishes were delicious, particularly their crispy pork knuckles and crispy pork belly. All dishes I tried were so good. Their service was fantastic. Definitely a venue to check out.

The service at this restaurant was terrible. We had to ask for everything: water, knives and forks and plates. However once the food had come it was tasty, although the pork schnitzel was very dry and over cooked. Drinks were a good portion size as well. Other than the staff herding everyone in one corner of the restaurant, the atmosphere here was nice so for a good night out it was okay. There are other German restaurant around so I would suggest considering them too.

Ordered the Munich Platter for two, which was very decent and more food than we could finish. The service was decent and ambience quite good, except for the constant ringing of bells to deliver paddle shots. It was fun the first few times but quickly got tiring and annoying. My main complaint is with the added “venue surcharge” of 6%, that applies to any orders, whether made through the QR code or at the bar. This is ridiculous when you are at the venue and have no other choice? Very shady practice.

Such a great place with friends and family to enjoy over a feast of German dishes and beer. It’s delicious, affordable and if you are a beer lover, you get to enjoy from a variety of German beer.

Venue has updated its menu as per pictures this week removing a heap of their best stuff. No brewers/Munich platter, no pork belly/knuckle. Theyd also ran out of mango beer!? The "american style pork ribs" were so sad (tough and grainy?) that we sent them back. Had %40 off with a early voucher and still felt a little dissapointed at how this place didn't meet my expectations from previous enjoyable evenings.

Food and atmosphere is average. But the multiple surcharges and price add ons are very misleading We were asked to order via the app which adds on a venue surcharge. Then creating a group tab incurred additional charges and finally payment via card adds on extra charges Food is just average so definitely not worth it for the high prices you need to pay

I made a booking for my boyfriend's birthday in the Beerhaus and we had an amazing experience, the food was great and Carolina gave us a great service, always helping us with a great attitude. Thanks Carolina and Eduardo in the bar.

If you arrive at The Bavarian on York to be greeted with food and drinks menus and shown a table don't assume that means you can order food and leisurely enjoy a meal just because you booked and confirmed a week in advance. Warning this is a rant!!!! We were very excited to enjoy birthday celebrations at The Bavarian. Unable to reach anyone by phone the booking confirmation advised to email - we were running a little late. Upon arrival we were greeted and shown a booth, given drinks and dinner menus and left to our own devices. 20 minutes later the waiter arrived to inform us we can't order dinner as the kitchen it's closing (1). We asked why we were given food menus if that was the case. He disappeared to see if we could be served as another table of 12 has just ordered!!! Returning he advised we could indeed order now and quickly as the kitchen is closing (2) and we can order one round of drinks only. Alarm bells for us - should we leave? We decided to stay as we were looking forward to the meal due to past experiences here were enjoyable. We ordered our pretzels, mains, desserts and a drink to be told it would all come out together as the kitchen is closing (3). We thanked the waiter and agreed to our meal arriving all at once. The warm haus made pretzels arrived and so did the eftpos machine!! I laughed and said I'd never paid for a meal I hadn't received before. I queried the bill with the extra $19 surcharge to be advised it's Sunday. $217 lighter I asked if we could have another pretzel. He said no, you got it - the kitchen is closing (4) Warm apple strudel arrived first. As we watched the ice cream melt the rest of our meal turned up including our drinks. The presentation of our warm to cool Munich platter and extra creamy mash was what we expected. Everything looked very nice. A few minutes later our crockery and cutlery arrived. The four of us started our meal and put the bad service behind us. Soon after we were told they were closing in 15 minutes. I said we can't finish in that time. He asked if we wanted a takeaway container. I said ask me in 15 minutes. He didn't comes back. The restaurant was cleared around us, photos of the table of 12 taken. Bar wiped down. No-one came near us again. They were getting ready to turn out the lights when I asked for a takeaway container from one of the bus boys. He got one and dropped it at the table and ran. That was the end of our experience. The service was as cold as the food. The first waiter / cashier never appeared again, at no time was there an apology for rushing us. The lack of service was horrendous. Our fault I guess for ordering in the first place, a good lesson learnt. Now reading other reviews this appears to be the norm. We will not be back. Especially not for a special occasion!!! The photos are from another person's review ours looked the same. We didn't have time for photos because the kitchen was closing.

When I saw that The Bavarian had an ‘OTT menu’ this month, I knew I had to visit! I loaded up with 5kg of my fave four wing flavours (Texas BBQ, Buffalo, Lemon Pepper and Garlic & Parmesan), as well as the OTT burger. The burger was stacked with Angus beef, bacon, chicken schnitzel, pork belly, Swiss cheese, salad and sauces on their NEW pretzel bun, and was served with the crispiest fries. Highly recommend visiting if you want a REAL feed!

Excellent location and great food. The ambience during evening hours on the weekend was rhythmic. Staff are friendly and courteous. Food options aplenty with large portions. The Jager chicken schnitzel is highly recommended. Lots to choose from drink options. Prices are above average but worth the quality and quantity.

Great spot for a German beer, boutique beer or even a wine or cocktail. We were here to watch a boxing match and they dealt with the crowd well. Plenty of food on the menu too, pretzels, burgers, schnitzels and even make your own salads.

Good value for money. Have come here a number of times before and always felt the food and drinks were well priced. You can order via an app on your table, but we did the $25 All you can eat meat and cheese platter, so we had to pay at the counter. Beers and wines were generous as was rh all you can eat platter. Quality was better than I expected, we went through 3 platters between the three of us, so that wasn't a bad effort.

Surprisingly really good. We were there on Saturday evening for dinner. The food was lovely. The staff were very friendly and helpful and kept checking we were ok and making sure we were happy. A nice touch was the musician which my kids loved listening to. Nice atmosphere! Spacious and great for little kids too. We had the Mac and cheese croquettes, the pretzels that are always so nice! The chicken schnitzel for the kids with fairy floss - what a treat the kids had lol. We also had the market fish which was barramundi - super yummy! And the naked schnitzel ( grilled chicken breast) lovely as well. We will definitely come back as it was a hit for the little ones and us which we managed to have a beer in peace as the kids were distracted with the music :)

Great place for an epic carnivorous feed filled with Bavarian delights. Pork knuckles, pork bellies, Schnitzels & snags. This place also has a great offering of German beer and also others from Australia and around the world. Look out for the daily specials like 10c wings on Mondays and sign up for the club for special deals.

I visited the Bavarian last Saturday (18/3) and ordered the apple strudel while my co-worker ordered the kids chicken schnitzel. The apples in the strudel was way too sweet to a point where it was a struggle to finish the other half. The only saving grace was the ice-cream which helped to tone down the sweetness. I don't know if granny smith apples were used but it was too overpowering. The pastry itself was also soft and soggy instead of having a nice flakey crust. The kids schnitzel was also a disappointment. First off, why does the presentation look like a left over piece from another half? I understand that menu items from the kids section have basic presentation but serving a piece that was cut in half looks cheap and tacky. Secondly, the schnitzel was extremely salty like as if it was covered in a layer of salt as well as it being overcooked and dry. Thankfully the wait staff offered to have it remade for my co-worker. Other than that, the place has a really good atmosphere for an afterwork catch up if you are keen on a few rounds.

Nice place, but service was just ok. Ordered a beer didn’t have any left of what I ordered. Ordered another kind came back 5 minutes later. Didn’t have it either, but 3rd one they had. 3 of us at table and 2 of us got our meal. We finished our meals and my wife’s meal still wasn’t out to her. Went to washroom to wash up after a rib dinner and no paper towels to dry my hands. Definitely needs some attention to how it’s run in general.

I have eaten at beerhaus numerous times. The staff here is so nice and very attentive, even on Friday nights when it's super busy. The food is delicious, the schnitzels are big but very good. I would highly recommend this place. It's great for big groups or even a quick lunch during the week.

Wonderful place with amazing servers! I wouldn't recommend the app unless they are packed and understaffed. Great food and delicious beer at an (Australian downtown) reasonable price. They have daily specials on food too. And sports tvs. Honestly the staff is what makes that place amazing and stand out over others. Seriously, go and see for yourself.

The decor is brilliant. For a city venue.. The specials are actually great. The service I would have to give 3/5 at best if it weren’t for the ONE waiter who was attentive, friendly, happy, and kind.. His name was Jacob. All other waitstaff were not scanning the room, were on their phones, and didn’t seem to be “present”, while Jacob seemed to manage most of the venue on his own. The only true taste of authenticity was from this kind gentleman.

Great location. And great beer. A good place if you want something other than the regular tap beer at yoir local. Food is pub food but of a good quality and everything tastes fresh and clean. I like the table service at the moment, means no need to line up like a pleb. Bring me dem beers, yeah, that's where the flavour is at!

Came here after seeing the marketing ad for $10 schnitzel fest. Unbelievable value for money meals. The portion size was massive and chicken well seasoned. Staff were very courteous and the place is comfy enough for an after work drink.

  • 3/5 James U. 3 years ago on Google
Love the $10 Schnitzel deal they've got going. Not a bad place for some Bavarian food and a German beer. The platters are pretty nice but a tad pricey. The vibe is more sports bar than Bavarian beer hall which tends to lack character give the venue a bit of sterile feel.

  • 3/5 Rhys T. 2 years ago on Google
May21: Still good. Nearly full on a Wednesday night perhaps the $10 schnitzel specials were drawing people in. Jan21: The service was efficient and the chicken Parmigiana tasted good except sauerkraut or salad would be charged $8 which is quite deal. And there is a surcharge for paying by card or PayPal.

We scan the barcode on the table and the menu pop up on our phone. We ordered some dishes and really love their Crispy Pork Belly Bun (the bun was very soft, combined with the crunchy pork belly and sauce!). We also enjoy their Famous Crispy Pork Knuckle (very crispy and juicy) and Cos Salad with chicken schnitzel (unfortunately, the chicken schnitzel is too blend, I only can taste the oil). Don’t forget to try their Haus Made Apple Strudle - it’s very yummy! Overall, we have a good dinner and good service. Will revisit again next time.

I went there once 3 weeks ago and the middle stall in the ladies bathroom had what I assume was someone’s vomit on the wall behind the door. I came back again yesterday, used the same stall and the same vomit patch was still there uncleaned. Super gross. The service itself is average and I hate the insanely loud bell that rings anytime anyone orders shots. It’s so disruptive to everyone dining there, especially when it happens constantly.

The Bavarian York St is in a beautiful heritage building and in a great location. Great beers on offer and service is friendly. The food was a bit hit and miss. The burger was good, the pork belly added to the salad was dry & overcooked and the sausages were ok. Cannot fault the fun vibes in the place!

We take the all-you-can-eat riblets for two people. We ordered four 200ml German paddles for drinks and additional loaded fries since the second refill for riblets took more than 20 minutes, given that it wasn't a busy night. In spite of the slow service, I don't recommend the all-you-can-eat Riblets only promotion if you are starving. It's ok if you wish for a German beer to pay a visit.

I was looking for an easy meal in the city on a Sunday night. I wandered into The Bavarian and settled on the beef burger with fries and a beer. Service was good and burger actually exceeded my expectations. You order using a QR code at the table which, whilst efficient, detracts a little from the atmosphere of this venue. Still nice atmosphere, good food and plenty of beer choices.

Pretty good overall though not really German food at all. Decent atmosphere but can get quite loud. Various seating options. Men’s and women’s toilets on opposite sides of the establishment. Clean and tidy. Friendly and quick service. Don’t need a booking. Good sized steins!

Came here for lunch with group of work colleagues on Friday. Food was fairly tasty and large portion, staff nice (though one waitress kept bringing other peoples orders to our table and even we doubled checked with staff that one colleagues parmi would be without ham - it came with ham) also you are asked to order through online app, which is efficient - but shocked that you are forced to pay a surcharge …on every individual order - also very sneaky that when you go to pay app defaults to adding 5% tip!

A nice place to have German food and their BEER - You must have the German beer! We ordered a shared platter and can’t finish, the portion was so big. The pork knuckle was very delicious with the sauce, also the chicken schnitzel. They have live music on Thursday nights, love the vibe.

Are lunch here with the family and overall it was a pretty average experience. Service was very attentive. As for the food, it was good, but nowhere near the best Schnitzel I’ve had. The mushroom gravy was served on the side in a small cup, I would have preferred it to be smothered over the entree like traditional German Jägerschnitzel as not nearly enough gravy is provided in the cup.

Schnitzels are indeed their specialty, as they are really good here! I had their Tuesday schnitty promotion & it was great value. Otherwise I find their schnitty price quite pricey. Love their friendly service, and plenty of seatings. And soft drinks come in their big beer mugs 🤩 - Kid friendly (highchairs available) - Plenty of vegan menu - Great for Groups - Order & pay via QR scan on table - Outdoor dining available Please note though they do charge service fee everyday (at the time of this review, they charge 5% for Mon-Fri, 10% for Sundays & 15% for public holidays + card fees too).

  • 2/5 Brett D. 3 years ago on Google
Extremely disappointed with the American BBQ menu - the pulled pork was inedible. Schnitzels are served with tomato ketchup? Our service was questionable, we were told something that we ordered was not actually available after having already been waiting 30 minutes for it to arrive - it seemed to be our problem to solve, no apology for the mix up was offered. The fried chicken burger, meanwhile, was decent. I also appreciate the decent beer selection. Not decent enough to return again, however. Not recommended.

Visit this place if you’re interested in having a drink, although keep in mind that it is quite loud. In terms of food, it leans towards standard pub food. It’s really not the best in terms of flavour or creativity. It’s good for wings and chips to accompany your beer.

Waited about 10 mins to be seated after several staff walking past avoiding eye contact. Then to be seated and told after we had ordered that we need to put out orders through an app I had to download. I paid for a water, and requested it to come, for them to bring out tap water (that tasted like margarita cocktails) and no glasses. Food took another 45 mins, and it was also the wrong order. Then had to deal with staff trying to argue with me that it was what I ordered, even though I showed them my receipt on the app. Staff very unhelpful and looked very stressed. Seemed like the manager (man with full arm tattoo) just walked around on his phone the whole time, I tried to get his attention but he just ignored. Quite unprofessional, and completely not worth $80 for 2 people. There are much better places to go for beer and german food. Try Bavarian Beer Cafe.

Good atmosphere, but service is ridiculously slow. Takes at least 40 minutes for food to be served. You have 5 star fine dining restaurants that can serve quality food in half the time. It's not even a busy time and food is still slow. Food was satisfactory.

Had dinner in this place. The food was good and they have lots of beers to choose. The best part is their pretzel donut. It is must order if you are here. The venue itself is good, but it was way too loud especially with the live band/singer at the time. The waitress was awesome and remembered all the drinks that we ordered and can easily reorder again. If the music wasn't too loud, I would give it 5 stars easily.

This venue has the music blasting way too loud and it sounds more like a nightclub than a bar/restaurant. It becomes super annoying that you have to constantly shout to be heard in conversation. If this place ditched the loud music it has the potential to be a great little after work venue for chat, drinks and dinner. Unfortunately now the music is so loud can't hear yourself think, let alone strike up a conversation with your group.

Decent quality German beer and the pork knuckle is expensive but very tasty. The 4pm-6pm happy hour however has fallen off a cliff. It used to be 500ml beers for $5 and the free food was Cajun chicken, sausage rolls and cheese topped chips with red onion. Now it is 300ml beers for $5 and the free food is literally popcorn and occasionally plain chips. They heavily advertise “Free Royal Snacks” and they have EIGHT separate hot plates in their cart of which they fill ONE of them with POPCORN. What a joke!! Avoid this place.
