Haven’t been in years, so went back again last this weekend. The roti is as delicious as I remember, and the noodles were full of flavour. Everything is cooked fresh and comes out quick. Was less impressed by the curry and satay, but it was still good. Be prepared for a queue, but it moves relatively quickly. It’s also BYO.

It is no doubt the foods here are always amazing, the peanut sauce of the satay is to die for. Any roti with that curry and lentil on the side is a must try when you visit mamak. They make it fresh from the scratch it was fluffy and the curry is absolutely delicious. Don't forget to get a drink too, teh tarik is a must try drink if you go to malaysia restaurant. The downsides are, the place is really small, the space is really cramped together you can sit side by side to a bunch of stranger. The staff is really rude and don't really care about customer, dont expect great service here. I kinda understand this place is really busy, people are line up to dine in this place, but the waitress look like they are not happy serving customer and dont even try to hide it. One time I come with my friends, we come when the shop just open so there are still plenty of space. They want to sit us near the back kitchen which get really hot, because we sit there last time when we dine in, so I asked us to move to another table, anywhere beside that seat. At that time the store just open and there are many seats, but she insist we need to take that seat or leave, she just making excuse that another table is for people with the stroller and etc. Fyi, We did not demand big table or anything we just want different space and we explained it to her. Well, in the end we did not dine there and go somewhere else. We will be back for the food, maybe takeaway only.

Comeback after years, place still busy pumping food. Chicken satay was good, 12 pieces for $30, then I have their tea, with hint of ginger, perfect for windy cold night. Roti was light and delicate, can’t go wrong!

The most famous restaurant in this area. You must try once if you want to eat Malaysian food in Sydney. I came back two weeks later. I liked spicy lamb curry because of its tender texture and flavorful soup. Chicken curry and chicken pieces stir-fried with whole spices are OK but it's not my thing. The dessert is all good. The staff is always friendly. Highly recommend.

Was not sure what to expect, but it came recommended as the best Malaysian restaurant in town. And it did not disappoint. Food was AMAZING. The chicken satay skewers were great, as was the dal with fresh bread. Fish curry was a little spicy, but still excellent. But good that we decided to go for the desert, even though we were pretty full already. It was to die for! Make sure to order it with the rest of the food as it takes a while to prepare. But absolutely worth it.

Walked in when they first opened in the morning around 11:30 on a Sunday, the restaurant was quiet. Lots of friendly staff, clean place, fast service!! Within a few minutes of walking in and sitting down, staff brought out cutlery, cups and water. Ordered online, didn’t have to wait that long for food to come out either! The food itself was TO DIE FOR!! As a Malaysian myself, the food here was definitely the closest that I have had to authentic Malay cuisine. Definitely satisfied my craving for comfort food!! Highly recommend!! Only downside was that they weren’t making their offered drinks at the time and only offered soft drink. But of course, there’s next time!! Thank you staff for the amazing service and food!!

It’s been a while since I have revisited Mamak. While the queues seem to have dissipated, this place still demonstrates you can be rewarded for doing what you do both simply and well. Pandemic changes have seen ordering and payment move onto your phone. Waiters seat you and deliver your dishes shortly after you pay and receive a text message saying your order has been lodged. Roti, served with two curry dips and a splat of spicy sambal, are still the drawcard. Roti canai ($9) pinched into a fluffy little pile is hard to beat; though if you’re hungry, the egg protein hit in roti telur ($10) can be inviting. Both are good foils for the spicy gravy in the slow-cooked kari kambing ($22), a red curry with tender hunks of lamb. A pile of red-dusted ayam berempah ($21) completes our meal. The bite-sized chicken pieces, left on the bone, have a good hit of chilli mingling with cassia, curry leaves, lemongrass, ginger, turmeric and garlic. While the cultural tourists next to us loudly bemoan the lack of wine, I happily slurp a limau ais ($5)—a gentle blend of fresh lime and sugar syrup served over ice—grateful this place hasn’t succumbed to higher prices and a hipster-friendly makeover.

Mamak's ordering system was streamlined and online. You get served extremely quickly and there are so many options. The food itself was amazing. We loved the roti and all the types of curries. Never having Malaysian food before, this was a great first experience and we still think about going back to eat here to this day.

Kangkung belachan and curry chicken are pretty good. Fried chicken is a let down. The curry chicken is pretty good, curry goat is not good (the meat is too dry), Roti with shallot is good, Nasi goreng is delicious.

Sorry but not much available for vegetarians, not to mention vegans. This is literally all I could have and I wasn't that impressed. I understand some places don't have a plant based menu options, but I would have loved even one vegetarian meal, just one, but a good one. Although the curry was great, the noodles were seriously plain.

Decent food price and good taste of food. The quantity of food has decreased over the past few years, not sure about the price though. The only downside of the restaurant is that there is no online booking available which is quite frustrating. This time we had to wait for more than an hour and it was raining heavily. So i highly recommend the restaurant to introduce online reservations of the tables.

We really enjoyed our dining experience here! Despite being busy, they got us in quickly. The food was absolutely delicious. The buttered roti was amazing, and all the curries were delicious! Will definitely be visiting again in a future trip to Australia!

The roti is definitely the highlight! Chicken satay is something you have to try as well. The dessert however was overly sweet. I will be back for more

Came here for many times to get cheap food. The roti and curry is very very nice. Since the restaurant is almost always full, you might want to spare some time waiting for the food. Over all it's one of the best Malaysian place in Sydney!

spotted this restaurant always with a long queue and we gave it a try. it was noisy because of the crowd which made us leave the restaurant in 30 mins as soon as we finished the fried rice, took the leftover satay home. chicken curry and nasigoreng (fried rice) was decent, mixed satay was okay but the sauce was too sweet for us.

Always seen how busy this place was, on the weekend we came in before the rush at lunch. What a great place, staff were friendly and helpful. We had order some chicken skewer, nasi lemek and the roti canai. The food was awesome, really enjoyed the chicken skewers and the rice dish was so flavourful. Abit disappointed with roti, it like the they forgot about the dish. Came out dead last 30 mins after everything else, we saw other table come in after and receive their before us. Other then that really enjoyed our meal and couldn't fault the dishes.

The food is awesome. Must try roti dishes. The wait for the dish is worth it. We were hunting down a place for lunch and this hidden gem was found. Also you would order on your pace using the QR code.

Get there and have the lamb. It's amazing. Plus the rest of the dishes are great. There is no booze though. But, on second visit, my main came out with the entree, my partner's meal and drinks much later, which is a real deal breaker. Food is good though but you can't make a reservation, you need to line up outside. If there are maybe half a dozen people outside, yes, line up, other than that find somewhere else. Just a couple of annoying things about this place. QR code to order which forces you to give an email address for a pin code, then you get soaked by the restaurant. So best to tell them you want to order manually with a proper menu. Using the QR code menu, you order, then it asks for a tip and then you pay straight away. As you can see by my review about bringing out our mains not at the same time, how do I know to tip before I get a meal or any interaction with the staff. Not good.

It's amazing how we must wait 40 mins for these fried noodles and some chicken curry (which I assume the curry has been made beforehand). Oh, we'll wait forever if we don't ask the waitress about our order, lol. Also, the curry taste blends. Couldn't even finish the dish for my appetite had been gone 20 minutes before the dish arrived. Anyway, nice.

This place’s food is really really good!!! If my friends wanna try exotic food, I’m gonna recommend this place. The beef satay was good, but after some mins it’s getting tough. Every visitors had to wait a while. Okay but this restaurant has quite fast customer turnover ratio. Staff was friendly but looks so busy and not good enough hospitality.

Chicken satay was so delicious. The taste was very close to the food I had in Malaysia so its the most authentic Malaysian place ive been to. I was seated in the corner near the entrance and the table was quite small for what I ordered. Also felt a bit uncomfortable some time when so many people walked by.

What's not to like about some of the best Malay roti's in Sydney. The queues are testament to how good this place is. Dishes are very reasonable and on this (of many) visits, the service was excellent. One of my favourite Sydney eateries, which never disappoints.

This restaurant is highly reviewed so I wanted to try. I ordered chicken curry and it was quite salty, too many bones in the chicken, it was hard to eat. Chicken satay was pretty good. Nasi lemak was good but it is not my style, it tastes so much like fish. I ordered a lime drink that was very simple and too small for 5 dollars, nothing special. Price is quite reasonable.

Tasted great. The bread was way too expensive. $9 dollars. For Kari Ayam $23 Very disappointed about tint pieces 3 in bowl with a lot of water. What I had tasted nice. The meat was tiny pieces on bone. Plus you pay the extra $4 for rice. What I had of Lots of potato. More of that and bigger than meat. Delicious. Food. So happy to find this place in the city.

The chicken & Nasi goreng were really good!! Don’t know about the roti with onions, we couldn’t eat it then that rice & with some sauce & tiny fish… wouldn’t be enough if we didn’t order the chicken. Still going back for nasi goreng 100%

Loved this Malaysian restaurant. My favorites were the mee goreng, satay and nasi lemak. Also liked the roti banana. Only the murtabak was a bit different for my liking. But the staff and the service was excellent.

  • 4/5 Erick T. 1 year ago on Google
Overall it's quite a decent Malaysian place. The roti canai is fluffy but the spicy sambal made it a winner. The chicken martabak wasn't bad either. The mee goreng was cooked well. Surprisingly decent and not overwhelming showered in sauce. The kangkung was also very good. Sadly the one that was a bit of a let down was the beef satay as it's tough. Good thing the satay sauce was decent. The chicken was alright.

The side dish of the coconut rice is good but the rice is common. The noodle is tasty and flavorful. The roti is aromatic but a little oily. Totally, it's still a good restaurant that you can enjoy the meal.

Really enjoyed the lamb curry and Malaysian tea, which I'd never tried before! The prawns were far too spicy for me (but that's just down to preference, I think) and I left a couple of bits of the satay chicken as they looked undercooked. Otherwise food arrived quickly and the restaurant was busy, giving a nice vibe.

Roti was good.Chicken curry is average. There is a charge of corkage(BYO) $4/person but they don't provide any wine or Liquor glass.

  • 5/5 Harrison T. 10 months ago on Google
Mamak never disappoints. Great place to grab a quick bite to eat with authentic food and great service. Roti Canai is a must, satay chicken or beef are great, mee goreng is good and ayam goreng is a must!!! while it might be hard, try leave some room for dessert as these are also good. Not too sure why it only has a 4.2, perhaps its the line to get in or the fact its not fancy but if all you want is good food at a good price then this place is worth a visit.

Very good Malaysian restaurant here in Sydney. You MUST try the Roti, and even take one as starter and one as desert. This is delicious. Restaurant is really good. You can order on your phone, which is pretty convenient.

Not that great to queue 20 mins for it and spend 60 aud. I've had better meals with much lesser. Not everything was bad. I did like the nasi lemak. The sambal wasn't much. I wished there was more sambal. Nice balance of sweet and spicy. Adding the fried chicken made the meal much better. But it was still abit too expensive for something like nasi lemak (plain). The service and cleanliness was abit underwhelming. The food came fast and hot. But the loud noise from the kitchen and the sticky floor just made the experience less enjoyable when you're paying for meals at a premium. Looking around the table the popular item would be the satay. So we got the beef one to try. Each stick had generous portions of meat. Sauce was abit sweet to my liking Nasi lemak with chicken. 7/10 Not bad. Love the fragrant rice and Sambal. Chicken murtabak 4/10 Salty. Curries were okay. Satay beef 6/10 Generous portion. Sauce was abit sweet. Teh tarik 5/10 Overly sweet. Milo tarik 6/10 Not bad.

There may be a bit of a wait if you visit during dinner time. It was very convenient to order and pay using a qr code. However, it seems that it took a long time for the food to come out after ordering. The nasi goreng and satay were really good. The peanut sauce for dipping satay is really delicious. It is a place I would like to visit again.

I recently had the pleasure of dining at Mamak Haymarket, and my experience was nothing short of delightful. Despite arriving for dinner to a full house, the 20-minute wait in the queue was well worth it. The staff at Mamak were incredibly friendly and accommodating, which added to the overall positive atmosphere of the restaurant. The cozy and clean ambiance further enhanced the dining experience, making it a comfortable place to enjoy a meal. Now, let's talk about the most important aspect - the food. The dishes I tried at Mamak were not only delicious but also offered a genuine taste of Malaysian cuisine. It's often hard to find authentic Malaysian flavors, but Mamak delivered on this front. The ingredients used were of high quality, and the prices were fair considering the quality and quantity of food served. In conclusion, I wholeheartedly recommend Mamak Haymarket to anyone looking to savor the flavors of Malaysia. The friendly staff, cozy atmosphere, delicious food, and reasonable prices make it a standout choice for Malaysian cuisine enthusiasts and foodies alike.

The food tastes average for the hype. Roti doesn't taste as authentic as Malaysian Roti Chania. Ayam curry felt like chilli powder cooked in water with chicken. The fried chicken was too oily, tender and soft. It is a crowded place, have to wait to get seated. Service is good or bad. It's a good place to try once if you are in town.

I’LL be honest, I hate queuing. Sometimes the end result isn’t worth wasting half your night. But waiting for 20 minutes for Mamak was worth it, as the food was delicious 😋 i must say everything was so fresh and delicious. The menu have so many food items to choose from and everything was delicious. We ordered Roti Murtabak and other varieties as well, everything was amazing. I highly recommend 💯

I saw here on the internet that one of the famous restaurants around the city and My friend also recommend me here. I had really really high expectation for the foods before going there. Foods are not really really tasty. I think I can have such these level of foods from many other restaurants not only at here but taste is still good enough, some of dishes were taste but some others were not for my taste. Food was OK. After waiting for 30 mins in the line for the seat, we order roti chanai, satay and chicken curry. All the dishes were okish. A Chinatown staple serving up Malaysian classics and puffy, crispy roti. My tried and trusted favourites include satay chicken sticks (and they sell the satay sauce for $8 a jar too so you can take the experience home!), rojak salad, mee goreng noodles, roti canai and a nice cold glass of teh tehrik.

Went for dinner on Sunday with a friend....my main came out warm and the meat was dry....clearly just pulled out of a large pot that had been sitting there. I asked why my main came before my entree. I was told that its because there is a table of 26 so resources are stretched.... Not an excuse as i.am a paying customer so should be looked after as much as anyone else. Also it is a BYO restaurant and i brought a bottle of wine and they don't have wine glasses because "they get smashed" overall not a good experience.

Food was great, very typical local Malaysian food, just like I was eating out in KL. After a week of visiting Sydney we were tired of chips with everything, so great to try real Asian food. Roti was so good, chicken curry very star aniseed pungent flavour but I liked it. Chicken Satay were the best ever. Food came quick and service was friendly and helpful. No alcohol served, but lime soda did the job. Overall we enjoyed it and want to come back.

Have been many times food was good, service was below usual standard. Asked for side sauce table of four was given two! Asked for two extra was told you are only allowed to have two. Really need some staff training guys our experience was dampened by a waitress that really did not want to be there and refused a customer request for extra side sauce. Did not see her again no two bite check to see how everything is OK. Dishes where not cleared no dessert offered. It was not busy at all lots of empty tables.

Is a must if you love roti and curry, as they’re the best!! Prepare to wait for a table as there’s always a lineup, you can watch the skilled roti makers through the front window while you wait. The food is amazing always. They have a good selection on the menu. The fried chicken is expertly done as is the roti! The melt-in-the-mouth lamb curry is so very good and make sure you order the rojak- it’s packed with shredded cucumber and yambean which add the perfect contrast to the hot curries. Service is fast and efficient, it’s noisy but not too bad. Servings are generous and the restaurant is good value for money. 5/5

Lunch time rolled around of course the hardest question to always answer is what we should eat today! Since we were roaming around Chinatown/Haymarket area we came across Mamak. It looked super busy inside. And my rule of thumb is if it had a crowd, its probably something good. And bonus, I honestly don't remember the last time I ate Malaysian food. The bread was so soft and fluffy! It was so yummy to dip in the the lentil and tar marine sauce. Chicken Satay. Everything was delicious! The chicken was tender and very flavorful. Highly recommend!

I had really high expectations after hearing great things about Mamak. Unfortunately, I left feeling underwhelmed. The food is very average. The chicken curry was inedible as it was so out of balance and all you could taste was one very overwhelming spice - unbalanced and no depth. Not for me unfortunately.
