Mothers Day breakfast ... Travelled over an hour to get to this place after family booked it. Arrived and after ordering Caramel Almond coffee and pancakes. The pancakes arrived ... looked like someone had taken a bite out of it. Tasted horrible drowned in oil and garnished with a teaspoon of cream and one strawberry cut in quarters with a sprinkle of pistachios. No maple syrup no coffee. After pushing it aside cause it was horrible to eat my whole family proceeded to finish their breakfast and waited for the coffee. Nothing... after calling waitress and asking where is the coffee it finally came. My husband was the only one that got the correct coffee. My daughter and son and myself all got wrong orders. Missing caramel on 2 orders and my son got a completely different coffee then what he ordered. The table had no sugars in the box on the table and we constantly had to ask for sugar or teaspoons. In the end i had enough. My mothers day breakfast was ruined. Called the manager and told him of the ordeal and he was accommodating an did not make us pay for this disaster. My family felt very much embarrassed and sorry that it wasn't as special as they hoped it would be. I would not recommend this place to anyone. Nor will i ever go back again. I really am not believing all those reviews because even the waitress's didn't know to even tell us what was in a Vienna Coffee cause when ordered it was not it.

What an amazing time we had here. The staff were kind and very accomodating and the firework was fantastic. It was really busy down the street but luckily we can clearly see the view and just sitting while enjoying the food! *make sure you book at balcony, so you get the spot. 🎆 The food was so delicious! Noodle prawn 🍤 and prawn chili pizza 🍕 is must try! Trust me! And they have a kangaroo! My friends really like it it was his first time trying the kangaroo, it’s served rare but now he is a fan of kangaroo🤣 Oh and chicken snitz burger 🍔 and fettuccine Palermo also nice! Love it! Would definitely come back and go on weekend morning to try their breakfast menu

Just about average food and service for above average prices. Food was hit and miss within our group. Some dishes nice, others bland. My ravioli was quite tasteless and also served stone cold! The waitress literally threw the plates down on the table at us too! Not what you would expect when paying $35 for some pasta. The prawn noodle dish was very nice however and also served hot. The cocktails were more like soft drinks, but still enjoyable. It's a big place, lots of tables and most of them full, so it must be a popular place even if I'm not rushing back.

Best (favourite) spot for lunch and dinner in the city! Must try their Fettuccini Palermo and stone pizzas, super hot & fresh. Staffs are extremely friendly and attentive, always take care of our table from start to finish. There are also lots of drink options, especially cocktails!! Will always stop by when visiting the city ❤️

NO SURPRISE HERE. I read the reviews before booking here for my kids NYE dinner and should’ve trusted my instinct. The experience was a complete disaster. Blackbirds has no care for its patrons whatsoever and we experienced it first hand. Firstly, the restaurant would not cater for my kids dietary needs. We requested that the restaurant provide the same main meal but the waiter refused by saying “we can’t do that”. Wow, really? Having paid $125 per head for a below average tasting meal that was simply too far from the mark. And to top it all off, we were charged a further $40 on top of the bill for a NYE surcharge. There was no mention of the surcharge on the website when booking and I still have a copy of the website as a record. I warn all customers to avoid this place at all costs. Don’t waste your money nor your time. Huge disappointment.

It’s a shame that the quality of this cafe is so horrible when it’s right next to a beautiful view. Firstly the costumer service is short and unresponsive, the waiters have no uniforms and look at us and walked away, our drinks were 85% ice and the cutlery was dirty and left out in the sun and the table was sticky and had ring marks from previous people, now the kangaroo we ordered was supposed to be medium well and was practically blood on the plate. When I asked for my meat to be cooked a little more the supervising manager took my plate and mumbled something shaking his head back to the kitchen, he returned with the meat cooked a little more and the plate hot like it was microwaved. Also the salad had no dressing and was just lettuce. We saw our drinks on the bar melting and still continued to get our food before our drinks. I honestly don’t understand why they charge so much for absolute rubbish.

Blackbird Cafe Sydney in the trendy Cockle Bay Wharf dining precinct has the best bird’s eye view of Darling Harbour. It also has the most delicious modern Australian cuisine, amazing cocktails with a great vibe.⁣ ⁣ The lollipop prawns in sriracha butter sauce, lime and bronze fennel are a must, as is the creamy crab, prawn & lobster ravioli. The pork ribs are melt in the mouth tender and you won’t go wrong ordering the BBQ meat pizza either.⁣ ⁣ I highly recommend a visit to Blackbird Cafe for a special meal out with family or friends or your partner.

Great place to have a meal with a view! They've got great Australian food and the seagulls were definitely jealous of our meal! We got the garlic pizza, sweet potato burger and the crab, prawn and lobster ravioli. The ravioli was my fave! The filling had great flavour and there was plenty of sauce!

We decided to have a late lunch to start our anniversary celebration. Was happy hour. Service was very slow and would of ordered more drinks if the staff had been more attentive. Food was nice although my chicken on my Caesar salad was dry.

Been there for a dinner with a couple of friends. Started off as usually with us sitting down and our order being taken. We sat there for about and hour or so waiting for our food. After a while we got up to the front counter to ask about our order and the first words that came out of the person's mouth was "are you guys ready to order". By then we realised that our order was never placed and we just sat there at our table for an hour waiting for nothing. By then we asked the waiter that got our order about what he did to our order. He said he just "lost it" and "never put it in". During this time the restaurant wasn't even busy. Even for a Tuesday evening. We got our order fixed up again and it didn't take too long for it to come out (food and drinks). While we were eating a waitress came up to us trying to give us two drink we already had. We tell her we already have them and she went back. Not too long later another waiter comes again with the same drinks asking the same thing. We sent him back again and continued eating. Once we got the bill they had the audacity to charge us for those drinks they kept sending us even though we never drank them. Clearly there is a massive lack of communication between staff. On another note the food was alright. Not too bad but nothing to praise about. About average. However, the garlic pizza was pretty dry and there wasn't really a garlic taste to it rather it had more of a "bland" taste.

Table wasn't clean, food from last person meal still on table . ( Not cool) knives and forks in dirty wooden box , literally dirty . I had fish and chips, fish was overcooked batter oily and fish frozen not fresh, no taste and dry. Salad not fresh and store bought . Would I eat there again after spending $80 on fish and chips a few oily prawns an one cocktail....no. One waitress for entire venue and very slow.

Great atmosphere, beautiful view over Darling Harbour. We stopped in for a quick drink at the bar . The staff were friendly. We didn’t try the food menu because we were filling in time but the view was great. It gave us an opportunity to chillax before our next stop.

The food here was really so so and the glasses were not very clean. I ordered a whisky based cocktail but I couldn’t taste any whisky at all. The cocktail tasted so bad that I didn’t finish it. It just tasted like a sugary drink… the only positive things were the customer service and the view. I definitely won’t return to this restaurant.

Not bad overall. It took too long for someone to come to our table after we'd been seated. However once we had ordered our cocktails and food they did arrive very quickly, well 3 of the 4 orders did. For some reason the 4th order and cutlery did not arrive until a good 5 minutes later. Bizarre. The cocktails were tasty but lacked the alcohol content expected from the prices charged. So the food was good. If you're in a party of 3 or less you'll have no problems, but don't expect too much of the cocktails.

Food was okay, but considering the price we paid something more presentable than boiled vegetables as a side would be good. Chips were very oily, pizza was decent. Seemed liked RSL style food. The toilets are absolutely disgusting. I know you don’t go to a restaurant to visit the bathroom but if this is your standard for the bathroom you should be closed down. Place is overall dirty and unclean with sticky tables, food scraps in the menu, and tables left unprepared. Heaters broken so we were left in the cold. Service is nice, very friendly. Very helpful with gluten-free and lactose accomodations. Mixed feelings about this place. We came to scout it out for a Christmas party and we will not be coming here. Very shameful a restaurant blessed to be in Cockle Bay is in such poor condition.

From the starter to the dessert, everything was simply outstanding. Every bite was absolutely delicious and left me wanting more. The service was impeccable and evi was very friendly throughout the meal. To finish, I ordered a sticky date pudding that was the perfect finishing touch to my lunch. It was so delicious it practically melts in your mouth!

Tried kangaroo for the first time! Great experience and in my opinion tastes similar to normal steak. I enjoyed the sauce that goes with the meat and the wedges were very delicious with a nice salad dressing. Summer splash cocktail was cold, sweet and refreshing with a slice of watermelon inside which I quite enjoyed nibbling on for dessert after. Accidentally ordered fries on top of my main as I didn’t read properly and see that kangaroo comes with the wedges. I would definitely recommend to book a seaside view table beforehand as I wanted a Marina view but those were all reserved sadly. Overall great experience

My partner and I went here for Valentine’s day. We had their Valentine’s Day special set menu which was pretty good. 3 types of entrée to share, main for each of us and 2 different desserts. Their service is quite excellent, most of the staff are attentive and friendly. Plus the great view and decor!

Really cool space, but the service was a little lacking. I got the lamb lunch special and it was overcooked, so that was a bit disappointing as well.

The fish and chips and the pizza with potatoes were quite good, but I had the ravioli with seafood and they were slightly below average. The rest of the dinner was alright but the prices were too high for what we got. The cucumber cocktail was delicious though!

Poor service and pizza only ok. Hostess seemed like we were a bother when we came in during Happy Hour and asked for a table on the balcony. Didn’t offer water (though we saw other waitresses doing that later). After no attention at all, asked at the bar about ordering and was told it was table service. Eventually hostess came out and took our order, then brought our pizza out very quickly. Before any drinks. I went in to the bar twice to enquire about the drinks order - the first time I saw them prepared and waiting and the second I had to ask another waitress to bring them out. They finally they came as we finished our food. For the price and with the amount of competition in this small area I can’t recommend.

𝗔𝘄𝗲𝘀𝗼𝗺𝗲 𝗹𝗼𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗱𝗲𝗹𝗶𝗰𝗶𝗼𝘂𝘀 𝗳𝗼𝗼𝗱 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘁𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗱𝗶𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝗰𝗮𝗳𝗲 𝗶𝗻 𝗖𝗼𝗰𝗸𝗹𝗲 𝗕𝗮𝘆 The lollipop prawns in sriracha butter sauce are a crowd pleaser and a must, perfect all year round. We also ordered the cornfed chicken breast which was divine and came with some creamy mash potato in garlic sauce. The rib eye steak with mushroom sauce was so rich in flavour and very filling, nothing better than perfectly cooked steak. Blackbird Cafe is a perfect venue for any meal, definately a place to add to the list

Went for some breakfast, everything seemed great upon arrival with friendly staff. We were shown to a seat outside given menus and left with out being told about how to order or water. We already knew we wanted coffees and decided on food within minutes. We waited and waited for someone to take our order. Staff that came near avoided eye contact, very focused on what they were doing. After failing to flag someone down I went to the front counter to ask if we could order. I was told it’s table service and they would send someone over right away. After returning to my seat I saw a couple be seated. And staff left. The staff then returned to only them to get their order and leave again in less than 5 minutes after they had sat down. Another family was sat behind us and their order taken with staff leaving quickly. We tried to give the benefit of the doubt but after being ignored for quite sometime, we were about to leave when we saw the couples and the families food come out before we had even had a drinks order taken! At that point someone came and gave us water and took a drinks order, we decided against food because there wasn’t enough time for us to eat. When the coffees arrived they were quite cool like they had been sitting a while possibly. Being a public holiday and maybe being short staffed is unfortunate. But it’s a horrible feeling being forgotten about even after saying something and feeling like you’ve been ignored.

the venue is MASSIVE, has a fully-stocked bar, and cute bathroom interior to take selfie pics (tried and tested by yours truly) 😉 our fave dish was this chorizo pizza, loaded with Spanish onion, smoked paprika, mushroom, and capsicum salsa 🫑 it had a nice lil kick and toppings were quite generous, although i do wish the pizza base/dough was more Neapolitan style (think airy & light, and typically cooked in a wood-fired oven for that bubbly charcoal texture) but def down to preference! 🖤 check out my foodie insta @erinxeats for more!

Confusion in regards to ordering - is it table or at the bar (ended up ordering at the bar). Meal came out cold and for $37 I would expect some thing beyond a plain dry Salad and a few (and I mean few) pieces of potato to side the kangaroo I ordered. Kangaroo was cooked well to rare and jack Daniels sauce was nice. Drinks never came out and we had to follow up on where they were. At first we were told last call drinks but when it was clear we had ordered them with our food 30 minutes prior they did turn up. We did get a bourbon and coke instead of a rum and solo though and at this point we gave up on trying to fix it. Here as a tourist trap I guess. Don't think I'll return. Good parts were good but didn't carry the bad.

  • 1/5 Anonymous 2 years ago on Google
Overcharged everyone for drinks every time after already charging expensive prices for their drinks in the first place. A shot of tequila and the general price of other drinks is $14, so I would assume that two shots is $28 and not $38? Other people were also charged for two when only ordering one drink. After paying a fairly large amount of money to have this cramped venue with very little space compared to others, It would be expected that you don’t scam people at the bar consistently and charge such unreasonable prices for drinks.

After having an eggs benny craving this place came up as one of the best in darling harbour - this was extremely misleading. I ordered the eggs benny with bacon instead of salmon which came out quickly, however there was little to no flavour in my food and no effort put into presentation as though the food was prepared before the cafe opened and they plated up when we ordered My partner got the big breakfast, the bacon was over cooked, mushrooms were dry, cold and flavourless and coffee was very bitter. Would not recommend.

Attended a group function in December. The restaurant was crowded and so loud that I couldn’t hear the person next to me. When mains arrived it was only warm. The food was passable but not particularly tasty. We had to ask several times to get enough wineglasses. Dessert was served with tiny plastic spoons. A couple of toilets had run out of toilet paper.

Thank you so much to the chefs, managers, and all the service staff of Blackbird Cafe. I came here with 20 more friends and we all enjoyed the ambience. Have been here multiple times in the past, many years ago and really liked it, this time round, we were all very disappointed with the quality of the food, anywhere else in cockle bay would've been a better option. The service, while the staff were quite attentive, they did not seem to understand what we were saying a lot of the time and found it very difficult to get simple items, like a steak knife or anything changed. I had the lobster and crab ravioli and feel as though I have had better at a local pub. Unfortunately we will no longer be going here.

Came up to Sydney for a weekend away and went to blackbird for dinner, was disappointed in the service as some of the staff members were blunt and rude. I was accidentally overcharged for my order and I kindly asked if I could get the overcharged money back. A male staff member came up to me and threw the money on the table instead of handing it to me. I had heard so many great things about this place but was disappointed to have a bad experience.

This is probably the third or fourth time I have been to this restaurant when in Sydney as it’s in a great spot and has something to cater for most people’s tastes. They have a few good vegetarian options which is great. The Arancini balls were delicious. Out of 6 of us only one did not love their meal- they had the salt and pepper squid and unfortunately it was chewy. Overall a great place for dinner in Darling Harbour

My first and last visit to this establishment. The price of 3 dishes. The lollipop prawns were edible.the rib-eye steak at $42 was on a scale of 1-10 about a 4. The pork ribs rack for $38 was about a 2. Over all for $112 .00 The food wasn't very nice.you got nothing else with this 2 main meals but a hand full of chips that you wouldn't feed the seagulls on the railing beside you.plus the waitress was very rude. To me it felt they wanted your business but with restrictions.not happy

There's a certain edge the Cockle Bay Wharf venue has over many establishments. The illustrious waterfront destination of entertainment features a French gazebo that can sit up to 8 people within the main dining area. It's balcony level ensures prime viewing over the hustle and bustle of the thriving and lively precinct. It was nice to revisit this place after a long absence and reacquaint myself with some classic cocktails. The Toblerone is beautiful presented with a spiderweb of raspberry and chocolate garnishing revitalizes an overdone mixer of Baileys, Kailua and Ice Cream. The Cosmopolitan has been touched up with persian fairy floss breathing new life into another

A group of us spend new years eye at this place. It was an amazing location right on The waters of darling harbour. The food was a set menu and was great value for a very busy night. Everything was fresh and presented so well. The staff were really friendly and the atmosphere was great. Great place for kids as well. There would be nothing to fault about this place. Will definitely return on a regular night to see how the place is again. Would 100% recommend this place especially if your looking for somewhere to celebrate a big night like new years eve!

Great view! Food was delicious especially the lamb shank! Reasonable prices for the location. They’ve got a great selection of pizzas as well as mains. The staff were attentive and quick service. Went for our 7 yr anniversary and they were happy to take the time to take photos of us with the harbour in the background- thanks so much for that!!

Nice place, bad service. It took 15 min for me to place my order, it came fast but took forever for someone take the cups out of the table. The place was a bit crowded due to coronavirus restrictions so we were seated every other table and our names and numbers were taken (positive point).

I booked my 18th at Blackbird cafe for 8:30pm, in time for the 9pm fireworks. Having got there, my friends and I were asked to wait in a line while they sorted our seats. After waiting for 10/15 min or so, we were told that the guests who are sitting at our booked table inside have not left yet, and that we are to wait until they finish their meal, despite the fact that I specifically booked for 8:30. This leads us to waiting until 9pm when the fireworks go off while we are still standing, waiting to be seated. Finally after many tries, the manager suggests that instead of sitting at our booked table, we sit at a table outside in the smoking area and that they reimburse us with complimentary non alcoholic “shots”. Having no other choice, we accept and are moved to an area that smells horrid and receive our food late. All round horrible, disappointing experience, where we were treated rudely by staff who thought they could take advantage of a bunch of young people. My friends and myself will never return.

The atmosphere here was great even though it was less crowded than before. Outdoor and indoor seating are available. Toilets were very clean, they also provided hand sanitizer at the entrance. Customer service was amazing too. We ordered rib-eye and the old fashioned burger. The fries were amazing as well as the burger. The steak was a bit average given it’s price.

For a $26 burger I expected the guacamole to be made of real avocados, not an avocado flavoured dip.
