Planar is situated in a great location at Darling Harbour. The atmosphere and environment is great which sets your expectation for the place to be quite high. However the food was a big disappointment the stake was cooked well done even though I requested medium. The pasta is super bland with no sauce and required a lot of salt, pepper and chilli oil. The staff here do not seem to pay attention to detail when requesting drinks we had to call multiple people to ask where our drinks were? Overall pretty disappointed given the price of the food you pay for and what you receive. The restaurant needs a new chef and staff need to be more adequately trained to pass on information in regards to orders by customers.

Happy hour food was pretty good. Drinks were good too. Quite a decent espresso martini for $12. But the service is abysmal. It took them 5 minutes to great us, just to tell us to take a seat outside. We were intercepted before we got to the table and told to move inside as the outdoor area was closed for a function. It then took them about 15 minutes to get us a menu. After waiting about another 10 or so minutes we had to go up and order. There were only about 15 - 20 other customers there at the time. And the 4 or so tables around us all eventually got up to order as well. Then a lady who was potentially one of the owners pulled a PA system out of a cupboard, and proceeded to do a sound check with it pointed right towards the only 4 or 5 tables of patrons, rather than pointing it anywhere else. The squealing etc went on for a few minutes. Basically it seems there were no wait staff assigned to that half of the restaurant. Or they're not trained in how to serve tables. One of them dropped a full water bottle on the floor when clearing a table and just left it there for someone to trip on. If this place was located anywhere else I'd assume it would go out of business. I think potentially they survive solely on the business of people who attend the ICC and don't know any better.

High Price but low food quality. waited for 1.5 hrs to get food. Very hard to get attention from staff members. Poorly served. Felt biassed because other tables were served very well and quick. Do not recommend this place.

This restaurant left me with conflicting emotions. On the one hand, the duck ravioli was excellent, but on the other, the steak and service was disappointing. As can be seen in photos, the steak arrived close to well done, despite the waitress not asking me for my preference (we later realised to our great confusion that the order chit stated medium rare). Service was slow and staff were stretched thin and unresponsive. While the cut was good and the steak well seasoned, I would hesitate to say that it was worth its price ($49). Overall, while not bad, our experience truly left us wanting more.

I went here recently for a friend's birthday and it was very underwhelming. When I first found out about Planar, I thought it was this fancy, Modern Australian restaurant but it definitely wasn't. We ordered the pizza, pasta and ribs and they looked amazing! But the ribs were a bit cold and the servings weren't as big as we expected, considering the price. The ribs say '5 spice' but it was more like '5 bags of sugar', it was very sweet and not very enjoyable. Looking at other reviews, it seems the food here is not up to the standard as other restaurants and we completely agree. Our waiter was very nice to us, but the customer service was very bad. We asked a lady for cutlery and plates twice but she never came back with them, so we asked the waiter and then he finally gave it us. For dessert, we brought a cake to the restaurant and when we received it, I was very shocked. It took so long to get the cake and now we understand why. It looked like someone had dropped it and put whipped cream and strawberries to cover it all up. Here is the image. This was not the cake we gave to the restaurant. Something happened to the cake in the kitchen and they didn't even tell us beforehand about what happened and just decided to cover it all up. And they had the guts to serve it to us with not mentioning anything about what happened at all. They tried to apologise after we waited so long and after they gave us another small cake and a discount on the bill as compensation. They played Happy Birthday music but we were not impressed. I do not blame the waiters for the cake mishap, this could've been dealt better by the management and the kitchen staff. Who flips an entire cake over, that's just common knowledge to not flip it over. We were deeply disappointed with the restaurant as we expected so much better treatment and service. I will not be coming to Planar anytime soon. - 1 star for the atmosphere and waiter.

The steak my husband and I had were both absolutely delicious. We ordered medium rate and got rare, but luckily we still really enjoyed it. We had a vegan dessert and another chocolate mousse type dessert. The vegan one with peanut butter was not very nice, sorry, but the other one was absolutely delicious. I gave the atmosphere 3 stars but maybe there isn't much they can do about seating large groups. The decor was lovely and seats comfortable. The staff were helpful and lovely.

Was bought here on a first date and the staff and atmosphere was incredible. So polite and humble. We really enjoyed their lovely personalities and the vibe throughout. Definitely a must to come down and visit this place. Food is incredible and pricing is good too, hard to find great Italian food these days but Planar is definitely one of them!

Hard to believe I never thought about dropping in here or making a booking and I’m frequently in Darling Harbour! The food here is top notch. Details, flavour, portions and cannot ignore the location!!! You won’t leave disappointed. If you love a beautiful fancy cocktail too this one is hard to ignore!

We can’t believe we’ve walked past this restaurant so many times and didn’t think to try the dishes here. The atmosphere (especially at sunset) was amazing, with the restaurant located right next to the water. The food was delectable, with our favourites being the sriracha prawn (which had a respectable kick) and truffle prosciutto pizza (which was so flavoursome). We would recommend Planar Restaurant if you’re looking for a nice date spot or hangout with friends ‼️

I enjoyed the food, it was delicious. The service was amazing and the staff were friendly. It was really busy when I arrived and thought I would have to wait a period of time for my food, but the food was served in a timely manner. I can't wait to return

Great food! We ordered the seafood pizza and loved it! The prosciutto pizza wasn't quite what I expected. Divine dessert and great cocktails. Wine took a long time to come out which was disappointing. But overall, the experience was great!! Made all the more better with the backdrop of the fireworks on the harbour on a beautiful Saturday night. The music set the ambience. Especially the Italian music later in the evening! Outdoor seating has heating for the cooler months too.

Came here last Sunday. We ordered Rib Eye Steak Medium, Mussles Hot Pot, Pizza, and Full Rack Ribs. Rates on the food: When menu says Mussle Hot Pot, expectation was it should be in Hot Pot? It was on cold plate! Although taste was ok, but was not happy with presentation on cold plate. Taste was good though. We sat outside so they quickly went cold. Pizza was standard, OK. Steak was Ok. Good portion with salad and potatoes. The meat was medium well than medium. But nonetheless, meat was good quality. Easy to chew on and not tough. It was not on point, but it didn't dissapoint entirely. The one that we most disappointed was 😫 😪 the Full Rack Ribs.. menu says meat was marinated with five spice. But the meat stunk so bad. I almost threw up.. the smell was unbelievable. My sons refused to eat.. we had to take home and re cooked .. ..not sure what they put in it. How they cooked it, but it was the worse Ive tasted. The smell was unflattering..even after we re cooked. Smell stayed. The ambience of the restaurant was a top notch. Our spot was great, so no complains there. Service was fast, there weren't so many people there..so as expected.

Drinks were great! And that was it….. Service was terrible. The team had no idea about the menu. Our meals were terrible. Got the rib eye steak requested medium rare. Came out well done, flavourless and chewy. One of, if not the worst steak experience i have had. Burgers were burnt and dry as well. Will not be rushing back anytime soon

Good value for money Restaurant on the water. It was a warm day and the breeze was lovely. The seafood linguine was really nice and perfectly cooked but unfortunately the lobster linguine was only average (overcooked). Fish and chips was good. Looks like it would be a nice venue to have a drinks and cocktails.

Came here for as a treat for my birthday, the waitress we had was super nice and she walked us through the menu since it was our first here. Ordered the kangaroo and lobster, they were absolutely delicious and the meat were oh so tender! Dessert (pistachio dome) was pretty nice but might have been a bit too sweet for my taste. Overall the food and service were on point 👌 Would definitely recommend.

Planar is an extraordinary restaurant that offers a delightful culinary journey through modern Italian cuisine. From the moment we walked in, the atmosphere exuded elegance and comfort, setting the stage for an unforgettable dining experience. The menu at Planar boasts an array of Italian dishes with a contemporary twist, and each plate was a masterpiece of flavors and presentation. The use of fresh, high-quality ingredients was evident in every dish, making each bite a delightful revelation. What truly set Planar apart was the exceptional service provided by Mateo. He made sure our glasses were never empty and anticipated our needs with grace and precision. His genuine passion for the restaurant and its cuisine was evident in every interaction, enhancing the overall dining experience. It is the perfect place for a special occasion or a memorable night out, leaving us with fond memories and a desire to return soon. If you're seeking an exquisite blend of flavors, an inviting atmosphere, and top-notch service, Planar is the place to go.

Sat down and ordered food , place was busy but somehow our order came out late after others that ordered after us got food before us. Apology received from waiter and had to check with kitchen staff. They did compensate us with one free meal. At least they were helpful to resolve the issue. I had poached eggs with avo and salmon the food was presented nicely and tasted fresh.

Located in the heart of the city, Darling Harbour area. Great service, friendly staff members, and being a vegetarian, good food options available. I have tried their veggie pizzas. It was yummy.

Staff are very friendly and helpful, they have Planar Robot to help with service how cute. Only thing I will recommend is a better plating for a “fluffy” omelette, it is lack of flavour but I guess you can add salt and pepper to make taste better. Overall love the atmosphere and the location is great.

great location and I loved the pizza! Comfy outdoor seats and a menu with so much variety. I got a stone fired truffle prosciutto pizza which was so flavourful and rich. The salt & pepper squid also stood out to me because of the crispy noodles on top. #invited

Seafood linguine was nice. Big prawns x 3, big scallops x 2, tender squids x 5 and mussels x 4. The Kangaroo was also good. We ordered raw which was just right. Waiters can be more attentive but they gave good suggestion on the cooking of kangaroo.

The Planar was fantastic! We ventured down on the harbour and found the restaurant with the brightest lights. The service was amazing and food was delicious! The staff were phenomenal! So friendly and we’re happy to join in with our antics!

Nice location along the Darling Harbour waterfront, and decent service from the waitstaff. But unfortunately, the food doesn’t match up to the atmosphere or the hefty prices that they charge. The Ultimate Beef Burger was decent taste wise - but absolutely tiny, and came with very little chips for the $31 price. The Chicken & Avo Oriecchiette was only average, and again they skimped on the sauce (which is what gives any pasta dish its flavour), and literally only a small handful of tiny chicken bits. This place probably has the potential to be so much more, but fell short at this time.

Had lunch here yesterday with my 2 daughters. I shared 2 entrees with one of my daughters and they were so large we didn’t eat dinner at night. Service was great and we sat outside in the fresh air. Everything was great.

Plan a visit for their lobster pizza and seafood linguine! These felt like such luxurious seafood dishes for very reasonable value considering the generous amounts of lobster, prawns, calamari and mussels. We devoured every dish and really enjoyed our dining experience - beautiful location and ambience.

Very accommodating staff , they were fully packed and we didn’t have a prior booking. They still managed to find us a table within 10-15 minutes (it was a Sunday long weekend)!! Food and ambience were amazing. And the staff was going above and beyond to look after all the patrons ! Will definitely come back again

Restaurant is good for couples but not for larger groups. My friends and I had a booking for 7:30pm and were waiting to be seated until around 8pm. We were waiting outside of the restaurant with about 3 other groups who also had bookings. We understood they were busy due to vivid. We experienced poor service when it came to the arrival of our meals. As a larger group and the busyness of the restaurant we understand that our meals may not arrive all at the same time but 6 meals arrived and one did not. After following up with wait staff multiple times the meal arrived 20 minutes after the rest of the groups.

We dine in with my family for the vivid. Ordered seafood pasta and salt and pepper squid. No question about taste as food is yummy and staff are good and friendly but the ff are our concerns: -took over 30minutes for the food to arrive -portions of the seafood pasta is very small for the price ($34). It’s like 5 mouthfuls for a dinner To be honest, we left the restaurant more hungry than we walk in. The food felt like a snack.

Came here for a friend's birthday. Overall the food was quite mediocre, nothing spectacular but was expecting something more for the price either in quality/quantity/taste. The 1 metre pizza was the best thing that we got: very filling, good portion and the peri peri chicken was quite yummy! Service was quite mediocre too, we sat at right end of the restaurant and it was really hard to get the wait staff's attention for simple things like table water, 2 extra sets of cutlery and missing food (which wasn't terrible but it's the little things that make the experience nicer!)

  • 1/5 Shay S. 2 years ago on Google
High Tea service is terrible. Avocado was not fresh on the sandwiches(brown), plus some of the bread was stale. Waited over 45 minutes for food to come out (asked multiple times) & had to ask for more to come out as serving sizes did not match quantity of patrons. Scones were very small & majority were harder than a rock. Some of our food didn’t even make it to the table. Best thing about the day was the view. Very disappointed considering it’s $49pp AND there was an added surcharge to pay, which wasn’t specified to us when making the booking. Looked at T&C’s and it wasn’t mentioned there either, nor on the high-tea menu provided. It would be an idea to remove the ‘high tea’ service from your venue if you cannot provide at least a bare minimum service and quality of food. Will not be returning, or recommending to anyone.

  • 4/5 Mike J. 2 years ago on Google
Good food, reasonable service, great view (ask for an outside table), reasonably priced. Beverage list had a fair few 'out of stock' beers and wines. Be aware they will not split the bill (a problem for a work Christmes lunch). Would recommend as they have a menu for all tastes.

  • 2/5 Jane L. 2 years ago on Google
Excellent food, disappointing service. I feel like the chef has nailed it, and is doing his or her job properly, but the waitstaff all need to be trained. Our booking for two was on a Thursday night. I was left standing for ages at the 'Please wait here to be seated' sign when I first arrived, until another customer pointed me out to a waitress after my own attempts to get the waitress' attention failed. Once seated, it seems that each waiter isn't allocated their own tables, so getting any form of service was very haphazard. We ordered a drink each and a main meal, however when our meals arrived they were just plonked down on the table quite roughly. There was no offer of salt/pepper/parmesan. No, "Is there anything else I can get you?" We were never offered second drinks, nor were we offered dessert or coffee. And we could have walked out without paying. I had to wait several minutes near the cash register on leaving, and practically beg to pay. The whole experience at Planar was very disappointing, and I would not recommend it for dinner unless all the evening wait staff undergo extensive training.
