The MCA Cafe is definitely one of Sydney’s hidden gems. It is located on the fourth floor of the Museum of Contemporary Arts and is free to enter. It is inclusive and accessible to everyone with the most amazing views of Sydney Harbour. The cafe menu is pretty basic but what they do have is decent. There is both indoor and outdoor seating, all with great views of the world famous Sydney Opera House and Harbour Bridge.

We dined at 2:00 on Fathers’ Day. We were able to be seated immediately if we sat inside, or if we wanted to sit outside there was a little wait. We elected to sit inside. There was plenty of space and the seating was comfortable. The outdoor seating afforded a better view of the harbour, obviously. There was a good range of food and drinks. We ordered from the table using the app, which was intuitive and simple to use. The drinks and food arrived very quickly and it was hit and fresh. My beautiful wife had fish and chips - the fish was smooth and soft. My burger was similarly excellent - the patty flavourful and the bun was almost a brioche bun, it was so soft. The views were nothing short of stunning. with the Sydney Opera House nearby. The staff were efficient and friendly.

A Cafe with picture postcard views over iconic sights of Sydney✨️✨️!! On 4th floor of MCA - this is an open Cafe, as such good weather entices the crowds. Can still enter, click your pics & leave without buying anything - on the dedicated Terrace space along dine in area. No booking - so come early or come later before 4pm when it closes on most days. We did neither & q-ed at peak lunch hour & still managed to find a spot in groups of 2 or 4 at a table. About 15 mins wait. Ploughman's Platter was delicious & ample & the others at my table thoroughly enjoyed theirs. Menu is very reasonably priced for the quality & a vantage prime location. Kudos to management & friendly wait staff.

Great view! To be honest, I am not a big fan of contemporary art. ^^ I visited MCA only to check the view from MCA cafe. LOL!!! Even though there was a big cruise ship, I really enjoyed the view. All of staff were very kind and friendly. And I really liked the fish and chips and lemonade in MCA cafe. Will Definitely visit it again when I come back to Sydney.

The dishes had a various of at the cafe. I chose one of pastas which was steady seller one. The taste was earthy to have a meal. Also the view was fabulous to take some photos. Personally I think most of tourists visit to take a picture.

Amazing views from the MCA Cafe, although there was a cruise ship docked. The staff were friendly and attentive and we were seated almost immediately. Seating is available indoors and outdoors is at a prime. Great range of food and drinks on offer with vegan and gluten-free options. We ordered the beer battered fish and chips, burger and dips platter. I also had home lemonade which tasted like a mint julip. Will definitely be back when we visit Sydney again.

This is a must visit for stunning views of the Harbour bridge and Opera house with good food. I had some tea and fries. It was easy to order with a QR code located at all the tables. Both indoor and outdoor seating is available. I would definitely recommend!

The view was the biggest highlight; it was beautiful! The pesto linguine was tasty, but for $18, I found the portion a bit small. The staff was friendly and promptly gave us a new table when it started raining and we were seating on the outdoor table. Overall, I had a great time at MCA Cafe, and would recommend it before or after a visit of the museum!

I had lunch at the cafe around 2.30 pm on a Saturday, it was a relatively nice day and the Place was packed. Staff was really friendly and good turn around of tables. Menu was affordable and the view amazing. Loved my Poked bowl, my partner didn’t like the banh mi, bread wasn’t good and flavour didn’t taste Vietnamese so big disappointment there although the rest of the menu seems really nice too. Food arrived quickly and it seemed to be really well organised. I would come back there for breakfast next time I come to Sydney

One of the best coffee. View was spectacular, staff were friendly and weather was wild so coffee was the best friend on that day. Recommended MCA cafe whether it might be breakfast, brunch or lunch. They practice Covid safe and order and payment all is contact less system. You won’t regret going there at least for the spectacular view of harbour bridge and opera house.

Nice food and atmosphere. The view is stunning, especially when the weather is sunny. You can see Sydney harbour bridge and opera house. The food is ok with reasonable price. The customer service is great, friendly staff.

Easily one of the best Cafes I’ve ever visited. The view is iconic, the food was served quick and the coffee was delicious. Me and my girlfriend went here for lunch and hat a really good time. We had one chicken wrap, a burger with fries and two coffees. Everything was brought to us in 10 minutes after ordering although the restaurant was well attended. All dishes came in hot and fresh. The view onto the opera house and the harbour bridge is spectacular. Overall a really nice experience 👍🏻

Well this is nice, don't you think? Table in the sun overlooking the Quay, ferries painted green and gold and moving about, faded white sails of the Sydney Opera House perched precariously on the headland, shards of light dancing about the water of the harbour beyond - what could be better? The view from the MCA Cafe on a clear day is the ultimate view of this glorious city because it's easy to get to, 5 or so stories up and smack bang in the middle of daylights delight. Come on a weekday morning and soak up the livability. Coffee is good, food is tasty. Licensed if you like a tipple. There's WiFi and wonder. Head to the gallery for your fix of 'What's all that about?'

Great place to chill and the views are awesome. Get a window seating and you can watch the Quay walks live. Service was good and fast. Food was not all that great but it was still very busy.

Situated on level 4 of the Museum of Contemporary Art, the number one reason we come to this cafe is for the view. It's a great place to bring visitors from out of town so they can appreciate Sydney Harbour in all her glory. But beware! During cruising season the view is largely hampered by a huge cruise ship, although you can still see the Harbour Bridge (see pic). The coffee was good and I had a salad which was enjoyable. The steak sandwich looked fantastic, and I might try it next time. The wait staff we also found to be very friendly. The location is great, walking distance to many of the local attractions and the Museum in itself is a fantastic place to visit. In the heart of The Rocks, overlooking Circular Quay, what more could you want?

I am very unhappy with MCA cafe. - The dish that I ordered wasn't available (the banana thing) - However, they made me pay for the order first, and only after that told me they ran out of bananas - Offered a refund but couldn't refund me the same way that I paid (I paid with my card; they were offering cash - that day I didn't need cash, I needed money on my card, but I am with ING so I had to go to Aus Post to deposit money on my account, but it was Australia day so Aus Post was closed for 3 days! which was VERY inconvenient for me) - why would you make me pay for something that's not there? - Tables / couches / chairs dirty - crumbs everywhere, although we've arrived at 10AM, they have just opened! So they don't clean the place when closing the shift? - Coffee was very average overall; and VERY average for the price Won't come back.

Coffee with a scenic Sydney view? MCA cafe is the perfect place to enjoy a cup of flat white while overlooking the magnificent Sydney Opera House and Harbour Bridge. Located at the top floor of the Museum of Contemporary Art (MCA), the cafe offered brunch and lunch menu. They have gluten-free, dairy-free, vegetarian and vegan options. We ordered flat white, mocha and long black with a caramel mud cake on the side. Although the coffee and dessert was pretty good; it is definitely the view that makes this place unique. Near the entrance, there was a free exhibition that you can enjoy as well. We recommend to come during the day so you can indulge on the outstanding view of Sydney.

We visited the museum for the open late Fridays they have during the summer (open until 9 pm + live performances). I recommend going to the cafe before 5:30pm as the line gets a bit long after that. Awesome view, good service, food, and drinks. Super recommend it

The food was mediocre, I ordered a beetroot salad with chicken and it tasted quite bland. We also ordered fish and chips which was ok. The shoe string fries were tasty and fresh. The almond latte was good. No issues with the ordering system through the QR code. The highlight was the view, can see the harbour bridge and opera house. The view makes up the lack of flavour in the food.

Beautiful atmosphere to enjoy a drink/ coffee with a scenic Sydney view Of the magnificent Sydney Opera House and Harbour Bridge. It’s Located at the top floor of the Museum near the wharf with water front. We ordered capuchinos and breakfast. Both the coffee and food was pretty good but definitely the view that makes this place so unique. I recommend to come during the weekday so more quite for photos and enjoy on the outstanding view of Sydney.

Excellent view, terrible service. We got a table, and after ordering using their app, we went few meters away to take a picture, and 1 minute later a new guest was already on our table. After that inconvenience, and after finally the waitress realised her mistake we sat in our table and received our drinks. We waited 45 minutes for our fish and chips that never came. We went to ask the waiters, the only explanation we received was that there was a problem with the printer, so our order was not even printed yet. We supposed to be there only 1 hour, and we already wasted 45 minutes for nothing. We received our refund after a 5 minutes process... so it was 1 hour of my life technically wasted... and went out of there hungry and without too much time to eat something else before going back to work... we got some sushi instead

It’s all about the view here folks. With sweeping views of the harbour, the bridge and the Opera House, the MCA Cafe is a great spot for lunch or a cake and coffee post museum visit. There is indoor and outdoor seating, and some outdoor tables offer shade. The menu has both savoury and sweet options, I had the rocket and feta salad which was pretty good. There are a couple of ways to order, at the counter or via the electronic gizmo on the table - scan the code, place your order and pay via your phone, all at your table. In a covid world, this is a great option.

Stunning view no matter the weather. Whats better than to have your breakfast/lunch looking over the Opera house and close up at the bridge. Foodwise, quite average. The "Spicy" chicken burger is sweet..the coffee is good. I always enjoy campos beans so.. On that aspect cant go wrong. The staff were great very friendly and nice to chat to. After your meals you can go down and views all the galleries! Or before your meals either way. However! Some galleries requires payments not all are free! Overall, great place to take the kids and spend the day. Recommend it for all ages.

This is a wonderful Cafe with a great view of circular quay, the Opera house and the harbour Bridge as long as there's no cruise ships in. The food is lovely and very well priced. Staff are very friendly and professional. I can't fault this place.

Great café experience! Affordable prices (bacon and egg roll for $12), stunning views, and the choice of indoor/outdoor dining means it is a must-visit. It gets very busy around 12pm but the wait time wasn't long for a Sunday.

5 stars for the staff and the view! We rocked up at 1 pm on a Sunday and there was a bit of a queue, understandably. Despite the crowds, the lady who was in charge of seating never lost the smile on her face and was very kind. We sat outside on the "breakfast bar" and we had a great time. Food, however, is only 2.5-3 stars max - my poke bowl was nicely presented but it was drawn in soy sauce and therefore it tasted just like salt. Nevertheless, worth having a drink/coffe and will be definitely back

We sat inside because it was raining so I feel we missed out on much of the ambiance. In saying that, the food was quick and of good quality. I had a Vandara Bowl which I felt was a little bit pricey for what it was. The girls had the pasta which was truly delicious and some cocktails. I would recommend this place for a after-work drink.

View is the best. Food is just so so. Service is terrible. We order 4 “Portuguese tarts”. They are cold and not crisp. They are so hard to take a bite. We request warm these “Portuguese tarts”. Waitress tell us “You can take these Portuguese tarts to home. You can warm these at home.” If you are selling “Portuguese tarts”. At least, they should have crisp shell. That’s it. I know this Café have a lot of potential consumers in the future. They will never worry about reviews.

A Café with great service and unparalleled views of Sydney Harbour but with unmatched prices. Get a table at the outdoor terrace or by the windows and you can lulled a few hours away, relax with good coffee and meals at reasonable Café prices. And if you spied the Persian Love Cake in the Cake display, grab it. Its rich, densely textured light with warm spice notes. Lovely.

Terrific view of the Opera House and I was really looking forward to the Angus Beef burger but NOT with a nearly raw patty! Food was delivered without cutlery and the wait staff were VERY difficult to understand behind their face masks in the VERY noisy environment. Yes, I know they have to wear them for our safety but clearer speech would be a bonus.

If you go anywhere to eat or drink in circular quay go here. Such a wonderful view and brilliant atmosphere. You get a beautiful view of harbour bridge and Sydney opera house and the food is quite decent and not to pricey. I really enjoyed it here that I went back.

This can be easily 5 stars cafe! The best view in Sydney and amazing menu selection. At night, even more beautiful. Only one thing, we don’t expect a friendly staff ☹️ (very slow service), though it is definitely my favorite cafe in Sydney for sure

  • 3/5 Ermi M. 1 year ago on Google
Spectacular view overlooking the Opera House and harbour which is the main highlight of the the venue. To improve the customer experience, new customers should be told about their flexible ordering options: they can order online at the table by scanning a QR code or if they choose to order at the counter, they’ll need to choose a table number to bring to the counter so their order can be allocated to that table number at the time of ordering. For an even better and simpler experience, wait staff should ditch this process altogether and give customers a table number once they get to the counter. The food was was average and over priced. Customer service can be improved.

  • 5/5 Adriana T. 11 months ago on Google
Stopped for refreshments and loved the setup: clear view of the Bridge, clear view of the docked cruise ship, ferryboats, even Opera House (you can see more of it if there's no cruiser on port). The best cold drink on the day was the elderflower lemonade, very fragrant and tasty. There are decent food options, clean facilities and a balcony where you can enjoy the sun. While you're there, use the lift with the outside glass wall, it's a hit if you're with kids or just satisfy the kid in you. And you could as well visit the museum of Contemporary Art and make a day of it. Then stroll into The Rocks and thrawl for treasures and souvenirs.

Fabulous lunch spot for a clear Sydney day. We had the large Ploughman's platter and the mixed dips platter to share. Service was quick and the staff were professional. Worth stopping by and sitting down for a coffee or tea break to absorb the Sydney Harbour views. Prices are decent and not too dear either. Staff were very efficient and quick to maintain hygiene and social distancing when we moved tables. They wiped down the previous table we sat on and ensured it was clean ready for next patron.

This place is awesome. Right at the top level of the MCA, it’s a casual space where you can dine with an amazing view of Sydney Harbour and the opera house! A good range of meals at s very reasonable price. You can also get wine and coffee. We tried the bimibap (salad of seaweed, beans, radish, brown rice and an addition of chicken. We also tried the kale and pumpkin tart when a side of rocket. Both were super tasty and fresh. The coffee is campos and made well. We will certainly be back.

With prime positioning and rooftop views of Sydney's Circular Quay, The Rocks, Harbour Bridge and the Opera House few cafes can boast the splendour and sights offered by its vantage point. The staff are good and the menu is selectively fine with all the cafe essentials on offer including beverages, desserts and meals. I enjoy holding meetings here despite the noisy ambience of the lunch crowd, it really has a great vibe especially on sunny days.

Nice cafe located on the top floor of the MCA. Good view of the Sydney Harbour Bridge and the Opera House. Prices are quite reasonable and it is good place for morning and afternoon tea. I have been meaning to give this 5-star review for MCA cafe - I am an artist that's why the museum is close to my heart. I visit it very often every time there is a new exhibition. Since the day I discovered the cafe I have been going there frequently. Before, my office is not far from MCA - down HIckson Road. I will go there for a cup of Cappucino and Carrot cake. It is the best in Sydney in my opinion. I really love this cafe, value for money, cozy and nice view of the harbour. In spite the fact it is very touristy at times, I still get moments of silence when I go there off peak hours for my personal brain storming. Since it's very touristy, every time I have friends visiting me here in Sydney, it's on my list to go for coffee or something. The last time I was there I had this black bun burger and my friend had a bowl of salad. It was amazing and of course I also had my carrot cake. Service was fast and even if they get crowded, there's always an orderly chaos. This is Circular Quay's pride or rather Sydney's pride. Definitely a must, not just once, twice but always!

Really quick considering how busy it was. It's a lovely space with great views. Food was really really good, and generous. Staff were friendly and helpful. Tables are quite high for wheelchair users but it's an accessible space with an accessible loo. We'll worth a trip around the gallery as well!

My family and I had lunch at the Cafe last Sunday. Most of our food was reasonable, but one of my grandsons (8 years old) had the chicken nuggets as a treat. He couldnt eat them and complained they tasted fishy, literally. One of us tasted one and indeed it tasted "fishy". Also they were just supermarket style, old and stale, and were also obviously cooked in the same oil as the battered fish. Just because it is kid food it is not acceptable that their food should be second rate.
