During my visit to The Rocks Cafe, I had the pleasure of trying their delicious cottage pie, which was featured as their weekly special. It was a truly satisfying and flavorful dish, and I enjoyed every bite of it. The pie was warm and cozy, with a thin and flaky pastry crust that perfectly complemented the flavorful and tender meat filling. In addition to the cottage pie, my companions and I also indulged in a lemon meringue pie, which we shared for dessert. It was absolutely divine, with a tangy and refreshing lemon filling and a light and fluffy meringue topping. Overall, my experience at The Rocks Cafe was delightful, and I highly recommend their cottage pie and lemon meringue pie to anyone looking for a delicious and cozy meal.

24 June 2023 Bacon & Egg Roll (Pic 1), I ❤️ this, good and tasty. Must try. Others are ok too. it looks like their cooking is on the saltier side. Over all are good.

Loved the cakes that we ate -- a chocolate cake with ice-cream and a carrot cake with cream on the side. The herb and garlic bread took us to a new level. Strongly recommend the place if you want to have delicious food and great ambience.

The rocks cafe is a nice eatery along a busy part of George st. There are a few seating options to choose from depending on availability. The outside area is nice, but make sure you get a table underneath an umbrella if it is a sunny day. The other dining areas are inside on the main floor, and upstairs. The upstairs area is much more quiet than on the street level and is a good place to enjoy your meal if you want to get away from the hustle and bustle of George st. The food is good. I go for the steak sandwich with caramalised onion. While the food is delicious and presented well, the portion size is a little on the small side considering the cost. The servers are friendly and provide no frills, efficient service.

Went there for breakfast and it was amazing. Highly recommend the mixed seeds and oats porridge. Very generous portion size and it was delicious. My partner also had their bacon and egg roll which he enjoyed. We would both go here again. The staff are very welcoming and efficient also.

Average. The food was ok, the staff were friendly enough but just not 5/5. The lemon meringue that I was quite excited about trying was disappointing. The crust was soggy and the meringue just didn’t taste that nice. Not much of a lemon tang either. Toilets upstairs are ok and clean

We had kangaroo Burger (out of curiosity) and it was really tender and juicy. They had variety of very good looking cakes however, I couldn't try as burger itself was very filling. I liked that smoking was not allowed even outside seating areas. Toilets were super small, I've never seen that small hand wash basin. Staff was friendly and pretty :) Overall, highly recommended.

Was after a late breakfast and this place serves breakfast until 11:30am. With a 4.4 star rating it was worth a visit to sample their breakfast burger and banana bread. Totally lived up to the reputation and only draw back was the waiter took 15 minutes to take my order as he went to another table that arrived after me but an apology was given.

Our breakfast at “The Rocks Cafe” was an absolute delight! 🍳🥞☕ The pancakes were fluffy, the cheesecakes were heavenly, and the Eggs Benedict were perfection on a plate. Each dish was a burst of flavor that left us craving for more. 👌 And speaking of coffee, it was outstanding! ☕ The rich aroma and taste were a great complement to the meal, making it even more enjoyable. The ambiance was charming, and the service was friendly and efficient. If you’re in search of a cozy spot for a scrumptious breakfast with fantastic coffee, “The Rocks Cafe” is the place to be. We can’t wait to return in our future travel here 🍽️😊 the staff are so niceeeee!

The food here was absolutely incredible. We had kangaroo (first time trying and we absolutely loved it- might be our favourite meat yet!) Also had the pasta which was delicious as well. We went in the evening and sat outside, and the atmosphere was great. I’d definitely recommend eating here and we shall be back!

Portions are super big and their desserts look amazing. I will definitely return to try some of their cakes. We had dinner here and got the spaghetti, gnocchi, and soup. Everything was really nice and the staff were also very friendly. They also have both indoor and outdoor seating.

Had breakfast here and was so impressed by the wonderful hospitality of David and the other staff, and the beautiful food and coffee that we returned for dinner. once again we were not disappointed with David going out of his way to ensure we were comfortable and well accommodate for. The food was fantastic once again. For breakfast we had avo on toast, and scrambled eggs on toast. For dinner we had their signature spaghetti and the vegetable stir fry. The coffee was 10/10. We will be back before flying back home. Thanks David and team and compliments to the chef.

It’s not like normal one, more like homemade omelette, nice flavor! Great coffee!

Cannot shake the feeling that I was fleeced after dining for lunch there. Kids burger, a cafe burger and fettuccine chicken with milkshake and two coffees. With PH surcharge on an Easter Saturday? Total was 12 cents under one hundred big ones! $$$$$$$$$$ Many other places around and much more affordable with better food prepared. Not worth the visit again.

I loved the food here! We came here for dinner with my parents. They usually don’t like restaurant food as it’s either too salty for them, or too fatty or… they just don’t like the style of the food. We ordered soup, steamed veggies, pasta, and pan fried Salmon. And everything is finished, eaten to the last bite! So delicious and cooked to perfection! The customer service was always very good. We will come back for sure! Highly recommended!

Great menu, I went more than once and was always delighted with the food. Small but comfortable place, beautiful old fashion decor yet still casual. Service is ok. Can not disappoint.

Stopped by here on a Saturday after attending the first The Rocks Market after lockdown. Sat outside, chairs were comfortable and they had a nice setup in the cordoned off street. Server was friendly and the food came out promptly. My favorite part of the meal was the fries...omg cooked perfectly....not soggy, thin layer of crisp on the outside and great flavor. I'd go back just for the fries!

There is a lot of heritage in this building that cannot be ignored. The supreme majority of this place’s charm is highly due to this. Although the coffee was good and the staff were delightful, the only places suffered was in the food preparation. Both of meals were a little cold and as moorish as one would expect from the price of such dishes other than that, still recommend this place. Especially if you’re visiting the Rocks for the first time and want to feel the historical aspects.

Not bad, just your staple brunch place nothing exciting. Wish the eggs didnt look so plain and phallic like, maybe a splash of herbs. Wish the roasted mushrooms dish had a sauce as everything felt so dry together.

One of the few places that we kept coming back to for breakfast while we were in Sydney, as their food was just soo good! On our first visit, we ordered the following: - Grilled Halloumi (Grilled halloumi cheese, soft poached eggs, roasted tomato, harissa, rocket leaves served with grilled za’atar bread). - Salmon Royale (Soft poached eggs, wilted spinach, baby capers, Tasmanian smoked salmon & hollandaise sauce on Sourdough). Both were perfectly cooked, served quickly and in the right temperate. I highly recommend it.

Great location, beautiful coffee, average to decent food, surrounded by great atmosphere. Always love the rocks and its beautiful culture. Awesome Christmas decorations for everyone to explore once you are done with your breakfast/lunch. Staff are friendly and when sitting outside make sure you pick a table under the umbrella as it can get quite hot under the sun. Recommended for all.

Kangaroo burger was good but they tried to hide to meat so much it makes you wonder. Strip it back to cheese, meat and bun and it'll be vastly improved.

Beautiful location, and overall friendly staff. The food unfortunately seemingly lacked cares. Had breakfast here. Scrambled eggs on toast, where it didn’t seemed the eggs was whisked properly, not fluffy, and desiccated- something i haven’t seen from cafe bought scrambled eggs in a long time The ejjah was pretty good, although the pita bread seemed to have some other taste which i suspect wasn’t suppose to be there and resulting from residual from something else that was cooked on the same pan prior? Unfortunately it just seemed the passion for the food preparation just wasn’t quite there for such an iconic and well presented cafe.

The Rocks Cafe, Constructed in 1867. Crispy Pastry Chicken Pie with Chips. Fusion of European and Modern Australian cuisine, using the freshest local produce. Love the deco, nice and cosy cafe! Coffee not so great.

Had a mid morning breakfast on a Friday and it was very enjoyable. The three of us had their avocado toast, mushroom toast and grilled halloumi along with coffee and tea and all were very good. Ate outside under a nice umbrella. Would definitely go back.

We went here for dinner and it definitely depends on what you choose to order, but all in all it was nothing special and overpriced. I can recommend the The Rocks Cocktail and the fish of the day. But the truffle and parmesan fries didn't taste like truffle at all and the portions of the starters (we had the calamari) were rather small (for 20 AUD). The always changing service personnel was friendly but unexperienced. So, this place is nothing special and you pay the price for the exceptional good location in the Rocks.

Stopped in for dinner. Sat outside and had a wonderful time. Service was great, food excellent as was the wine. It was very calm night so that made the atmosphere just right sitting outside with heater on.

Our last night in Australia we had purchased tickets to the orchestra and wanted to have dinner before heading out. We came here and it was rather busy but they were able to get us a table. The staff was very nice and went above and beyond. We first sat inside but we were uncomfortable and asked to be moved outside. After just a few minutes they were able to accommodate us and move us. The food came quickly and was all very fresh and tasty.

Perfect place for a dessert. Waitress are friendly. However, they didn’t know which cakes were the options of the day, so I ordered an apple pie, which was ok, and coffee was delicious. Highly recommend after a walk near The Opera House premises. ……….. I went back a second time to have brekky. It was my birthday and I wanted eat in a nice place. However, the girl of the cashier was extremely rude, I asked for one of those nice table outside and she just said “no”, then before to order, a second table was available and she told me that the table was booked for somebody else, my friends and I stayed there for one a half hour and nobody came to take the table. The food was good and the service was fast, but I felt uncomfortable with the actitud of the cashier girl.

Stumbled across this cafe on a walk back to CQ from The Rocks. It's good but wouldn't say it's a destination in itself. The pricing is pretty great given the location of the cafe and the service was solid.

I blame hunger for my lapse of judgement. George St.. the Rocks.. My alarm bell should have scream quality and price. Tasteless seafood linguine and kids burger. I've a non fussy 10 year old niece. She had to put salt on her meat patties so she could finish her food. That tells me something. I'm a sucker for lemon meringue. That's who I was, a sucker! $15 later, I regretted my decision and didn't learn from my main dish. At least the seafood was fresh.

  • 4/5 Steve I. 5 months ago on Google
We stopped here for lunch in November on a Wednesday afternoon and sat outdoors. The service was fast and the waitstaff were friendly. The fish & chips were hot and crispy. The seafood linguine was hot and loaded with fresh seafood but the sauce was bland. There were hot peppers spread throughout the dish that helped but it needed a little more help. Also the option to add fresh cheese would have been nice.

I'm shocked to see how the restaurant is not abiding by government law and making people sit so close to each other to make money. Clearly, I have a concern about their dedication to the safety of customers. I would not recommend to go there.

If I were able to give this place 0 stars I would The Rocks Cafe would easily be the worst place I have ever eaten in my life. The food was atrocious, cold and overly expensive for a plate or terrible food. The staff barely spoke English, didn't care about the customers, some were extremely rude and patronosing; and it was barely edible. Needless to say the food was way over priced for the 'food' we were served I would not recommend The Rocks Cafe, would never eat there again and I would never suggest for anyone to step in foot in the establishment.

Stopped here for Brunch whilst in the Rocks. Great little place with more seating than you'd imagine. Outdoor, indoor booth style and upstairs. A tiny place that manages to fit in a lot! Just be mindful the staircase is super narrow and steep. Like my stairs in an old apartment in the city of Dordrecht, Netherlands, where I lived. There are two, small restrooms upstairs, so if you have difficulty managing stairs or cramped spaces, be aware. Prices were really reasonable and though the serving of scrambled egg was small for my partner, it was enough to satisfy. My pancakes were more than I could eat, super light and fluffy. Alcohol, full meals, a good menu, gorgeous ambience, make the Rocks Cafe a definite must.

While in Australia my fiance and I wanted to try some local and exotic proteins and stopped by the Rocks Cafe to try their kangaroo steak and gator burger. The outdoor seating was perfect for the time of year and even though we were having a late dinner, 830PM, the servers were extremely prompt and very friendly. The food was fresh and came out quickly. It was all really delicious and fairly priced. They also offer a pretty extensive cake/dessert option which we had to take to go since the portion sizes for dinner are quite generous. I would highly recommend stopping by the Rocks cafe for a meal or just for a piece of dessert and some coffee.

Friendly waitress, nice view of the Sydney Harbour Bridge? Ordered the apple crumble for $13 and an additional scoop of ice cream for $2.50. Latte was amazing too for $5. Overall a very good experience.

Getting harder to find a quality latte these days. But not here. The coffee was excellent and the cake complemented this as well. A nice little view of the coat hanger can be seen with sorted flowers bringing colour to the area. The staff were very friendly and helpful with gluten free options. This has now been saved to my every time in Sydney list.

I did a lot of research to find the best kangaroo Burger in Sydney, Australia. After reading many articles I came to the conclusion that this place is probably my best option and I wasn't wrong. I think the burger and the fries were only $25. Yes it was my first and only kangaroo Burger ever, but it was simply Delicious. If I ever go back to Sydney again I will for sure have another burger here.

My husband and I wanted to try Kangaroo while in Australia so we searched for a place that had great reviews. The Rocks Cafe was consistently mentioned so we popped in for a bite. My Kangaroo Burger was perfectly fine and tasted great. My husband’s Kangaroo steak was also perfectly cooked and he enjoyed. While a rather simple meal, we were happy with our food and the service. We highly recommend.

Good food, great location, wonderful opportunity to watch the passerby’s. On street, inside or upstairs dining. Lovely food, some great Aussie classics with a nice drop of fusion. A decent wine list. Healthy portions, lovely staff and a fair price for what you expect for inner city dining of this level. Great location for a stroll after lunch or dinner.

Fantastic little restaurant right by the harbour front. They offer celiac friendly food, as I have celiac disease and I did not feel sick after eating there. The food is very good and reasonably priced for what you get. I went to eat here everyday for breakfast and once for dinner. It's a old spot in Sydney and has some history in the building. I had the avocado on toast, mushroom toast and the kangaroo fillet. I would reccomend this place 100% ?

Walked around at the Rock area, saw very irresistible cakes on display, so i decided to come and have some dessert and coffee. Piccolo to start with, it was great! Black Forest individuate cake, hmmm... not to my liking, too much cream, not enough sponge cake layer, and it’s kinda dry . This cake was missing a punch! Even though it is garnished with glazed cherries, nit enough sour cherry flavour in the cake it self.
