If you want to be treated with respect skip this place! I made a reservation at Summerhouse Kings Cross and I thought everything was settle until the date of my flight back home. However, I was asked to leave the hostel one day before because the front office manager made a mistake and overbooked the hostel. When I tried to tell them it was their mistake and they should find a solution, they answered me that "doesn't matter who made the mistake I had to leave". I have rights as a customer and could call the police to report the incident, but I completely lost the interest to remain in the place after being treated unfairly.

    - Communal areas all close by 9.30pm, fines issued to guests for ‘partying’ in the kitchen - 95% of guests staying >2months, so v clicky - 1 toilet per 30-40 guests - Rooms very broken down e.g buckets under sinks - Guests (construction worker) really need to wash!

Stayed here for 10 days. The room was so small, not much space at all to move around or pack stuff. It also got really hot in there at night. There are nowhere near enough bathrooms for the amount of people staying here either. The kitchen is really clean and organised but small. The seating area is also quite small, and it rained one night so there was nowhere at all for us to sit and have dinner. The hostel does do events which and free food some nights which is nice. The hostel had a cliquey vibe to it. Everyone seemed to know each other so if I was a solo traveller I'd feel a bit intimidated. A lot of people staying there have been there for months and even work in the hostel which just creates a weird atmosphere, especially if you want more of a typical backpacker experience. It's fine if you want quiet vibes though. Location is good, a bit of a walk from the opera house but close to good museums and parks. The wifi in the hostel is great as well. It was a nice stay but not the most comfortable or spacious hostel!

horrible! i will never go back, never seen a dirtier place! cockroaches walking everywhere in the corridor room and bathroom, in the kitchen it was full, even in people's coolers. extremely dirty rooms, broken windows repaired with duct tape, rotten wood showers and broken so all the water came out of them and people carried it around walking around, bathrooms that were unusable, are aware of it because when we got there they told to only go to one bathroom because the others sucked! but how can you! people walking in part and on top of dead insects barefoot in the corridors .. to say the least disgusting!

Management is great, except for two women, Anna and Susanna, who make living there insufferable. Susanna does not care about you, or the culture of the hostel and Anna will evict anyone for the sake of selling your bed to someone who will pay more for it. I enjoyed 90% of my 7 week stay, until those two came. I am genuinely warning you, do not stay at this hostel if these two are still in charge. Put your money elsewhere. Management needs to be saged.

Amazing hostel. Bathroom and showers were always clean. The staff has always been friendly and helpful. Alix and Holly have helped me with my luggages and to be moved in a female dorm after my extension. Very beautiful courtyard. Will be back!

Loved Summer House 🤩 the hostel was always clean and the staff extremely friendly. Kitchen was super spacious and the TV Room area super comfy! The vibe around the hostel was always friendly and welcoming and can't recommend it enough to anyone planning a trip to Sydney

15min walk from the Opera House. Clean kitchen. They organise a lot of activities every now and then. Very expensive, no backpacking vibe... mostly people living there long term, common area shuts at 10pm which is a bit annoying as then you have to hangout on the streets with hobos, rats and roaches... My room smelled like food and thank god i had sliders to shower in those filthy toilets

Hostel well located but it is scary. 4 bathrooms for the whole hostel, the smell of the rooms leaves something to be desired, the common areas are dirty. All this for the sum of 385$ a week, it's quite shameful.

I visited Sydney over a weekend and figured I would stay at a hostel to save money but ended up checking out after one night as I would have appreciated bigger bathrooms and perhaps more private rooms (which is really very much my fault). Contrary to the other reviews here, I think the service I received was excellent! The facilities aren't the best (two showers for everyone staying) but if you are mainly looking for a place to stay for the night I think this place works great.

I and my husband stayed in a private room. The room was very confortable, clean, hot water, nice view. There is an amazing rooftop, and the bar down stairs is very cool. Friendly staf, good location.

8-dorm: loud squeeky doors opening all night, windows with no curtains and someone vacuuming at 8:20am on a Saturday morning IN the room... these people don't want you to sleep well.

We had a very pleasant surprise with the hostel. Very good quality for a cheap price! The staff is very friendly and they put a lot of effort to clean the common areas as well as the rooms (several times a day!!). Very clean in the end, nice people, also great location in Sydney. Would go back!

Good location. 3 times cleaning the bathrooms per day. I can recommend the hostel because the people here are very social and the kitchen is the most of the time clean. You have a nice movie room and a great outside area to eat.

I recently stayed at this hostel and found it to be a decent budget-friendly option. The atmosphere was lively, and the staff were friendly. Great hot showers. The location was convenient, making it easy to explore the city. Overall, a satisfactory stay for the price.h

THIS IS A SAFTEY WARNING. We recently stayed in at the hostel for 10 days, on the 7th day a bed collapsed whilst my friend was underneath injuring his foot. Afterwards, we received no real compensation for the troubles we had and were left with a very toxic goodbye. The rooms were also very dirty with cockroaches in abundance! It’s safe to say we didn’t feel comfortable staying at the hostel and we hope people don’t make the same mistake. The photos below show how they didn’t screw the bed in at all!

I had a great stay at Summer House Backpackers. The common areas are cleaned several times a day. There’s a well-equipped kitchen, a large terrace and a TV room. The staff are very welcoming and offer lots of activities. It’s great for meeting people. I would recommend.

We slept here for 3 nights in a 11 dorm bed room and it was absolutely nice. The hostel is clean, pretty social and friendly. The location and the price is also very good. I would book it again, when I’m back in Sydney.

Stayed for one week and I can definitely recommend. Top location, nice benches to sit together and helpful staff. They were easy-going and supportive when I asked to extend my stay. Kitchen is kinda small, especially in the evening it can be crowded but no big deal.

Honestly this hostel is a good value for its money: - Has a good atmosphere where you can mix with people and make friends easily - Is in a good location - The rooms have lockers and electricity sockets next to the bed where you can plug in your electronics - The toilets are very small though and the building of the hostel is old and highly needs to be refurbished. - The toilets are also not the cleanest

This hostel was great, it had quiet rooms but great communal areas where you meet loads of people. They also had a social exec who organised great days and nights out, they had group bbq’s with FREE food as well as walks and felt really inviting. Really really enjoyed our stay and would love to come back.

I was recommended by a friend, who had a wonderful experience there. The first time I booked 2 weeks, after that, I extended my booking longer. I do enjoy the hotel. The hotel is always clean and tidy by the staffs working. And the manager is very responsible.

Great hostel. The staff is friendly and accommodating, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere. The rooms are clean, comfortable, and well-maintained. Its prime location makes it a convenient choice for exploring the city's attractions.

I've been there a few times as a female solo traveller. If I pay a bit extra, I can stay in the female-only dorm but still have to share bathrooms with males, the people-to-bathroom ratio is not good, and they smell like public restrooms in an inner city train station. None of the frying pans or dish detergents is any good, so I have to bring my own. The price is pretty good for hostels.

We like it here. The hostel is centrally located and offers various activities. The room smells a bit, but the beds are comfortable. There are big boxes under the beds to store your stuff, which I find very convenient. The atmosphere in the hostel is very good and good for socializing.

The room was okay, I got upgraded from a 12 bed dorm to a 6 bed female one which was really nice. Lockers are spacious enough and most rooms far enough away from the communal area so it's nicely quiet. It's clean for a hostel and they are very strict about food in the rooms so no roaches or other insects! BUT there's only 3 toilets for the whole hostel which proved to be an issue at some point. Toilets and showers weren't particularly clean and the storage for bags was accessible for anyone so it's not that safe to leave them there. And there's something going on every day which is awesome! Don't miss the free pancake Sunday :)

Stayed only one night but it seemed like a good place. Staff was friendly. The kitchen was really clean. It's not very big but it was okay during the afternoon. Probably very busy during the evening.y room didn't have any windows and it was pretty humid and smelly bit it's a backpacker so just what you would expect. The location was good and the price was really decent.

I stayed in the hostel earlier this year. I booked for 2 nights but I stayed a few weeks there. The female room is big and very comfortable, enough room for our big suitcases 😅 There is a nice garden with a bbq and on Sundays they prepare yummy pancakes for breakfast. Nice vibes!

This hostel is my favourite in Sydney! It is super social, accessible and has so much character. The events that are on daily are a great way to meet people, the housekeeping team work tirelessly & the front of house staff are also helpful.
