Keeping it simple yet delightful - the way it’s meant to be 👍 awesome coffee and bagels - what’s not to like? Try the breakfast bagel - you won’t be disappointed.

Some of the best bagels in Sydney. I love bagels and am constantly trying to find spots to relive my NYC experience when I discovered Small Talk and this Montreal style bagel which, dare I say, rivals the best I've had in New York. Sadly, a lot of good bagel places reside in the Northern Beaches but Small Talk is my absolute favourite place to grab a bagel in the Inner West and I'm so grateful it opened near me! The bagel itself is SO GOOD. Chewy, crisp an dense without being tough, dry or bready. Wasn't a huge fan of the pastrami which was sliced a little too thick for my liking but we love the lox and salad. Quite frankly, I would eat the bagel on it's own. Portion size wise, it is on the small size so we love getting some of their cinnamon donut or fresh focaccia as a snack and take it to a park nearby and enjoy with your coffee! Perfect weekend treat!

Indeed small talk is correct when the food is this good and your mouth is full • 𝑭𝒐𝒄𝒄𝒂𝒄𝒊𝒂 technically but yes, calling it, the inner west has a slice shop now 🍕 "Coffee & Snacks" is an appropriate enough adjective but have one bite of any of the goodies and you'll be screaming for the encore. The dough is the star of the show – whether it's the savoury bites or the sweet bakes, a robust, stretchy dough with a nicely formed formaldehyde allows for a chew that tears away at the well developed gluten. The tomato focc or plain slice is making it's name in town as the best breakout and for good reason, the essence of marinara is here. Let me take a stab – a reduced tomato sauce, concentrating the tartness, balanced by herbs and salinity from both the dough and salt, ascended by an umami kick from the garlic.

Very poor customer service skills. After a family lunch order had gone missing, there was no ownership for the mistake made, nor was there an apology. After waiting a significant amount of time they showed a lack of communication and organisational skills by not acknowledging my family during this wait. It was frustrating to find out the order went to someone else. No genuine apology was made for this mistake and inconvenience it caused. Instead what was provided was awful service, no lunch, a refund and in their words - so you can get out of here! So unprofessional and a waste of time. Much training of staff is needed here.

The prices are high, yes. But I keep coming back anyway because the bagels (the salad with ham and the lox are amazing) are second to none and the staff are lovely. I will say though the focaccia is a reasonable price and portion compared to other local places. So come and treat yourself people.

Cute hole in the wall cafe with a nice aesthetic. Coffee is extremely overpriced ($20 for 3 coffees), for some reason they also don’t fill the cup with milk (this could be a pro or a con depending on how strong you like your coffee) or sprinkle chocolate powder on a cappuccino. Overall a disappointing experience that’s resulted in a stop at Roastville (Roastville is PHENOMENAL BTW 13/10 would recommend 5 stars)

Small Talk was recommended to us by the staff at Valentina’s since I mentioned I just moved from NYC and love breakfast sandwiches. A week later, here we are! The brekkie bagel was absolutely one of the best NYC-style egg sandwich/bagel I’ve had so far in Sydney. The everything bagel was really nice texture and the cheesy egg was perfectly cooked (folded! like it’s supposed to be, not a hard cook/fried egg like lots of cafes are doing now). My only regret was not adding bacon. One small point of feedback for the owners: Please list “mustard” as an ingredient on the menu because this was a surprise to me and the taste itself is quite divisive. I appreciate the creativity on the menu, though I felt bad having to bring my sandwich back because I cannot stand the taste of mustard. Maybe it’s just my preferences; but next time I would just confirm with the staff as to which condiments are added to the sandwich to avoid any confusion/miscommunication. Additionally, the Everything bagel seasoning contained fennel seed which I’ve only encountered in Australia. Not sure if it’s an aussie thing, but everything bagel does not typically contain fennel seeds. We also got the “chocolate almond morning bun” which reminded me of babka, not too sweet, with really nice lamination throughout. You can tell they use high-quality chocolate as well. We took our food and coffees to the nearby Morton Park to sit on a bench and enjoy the weather. Overall, Small Talk was really good, with nice staff and fast service. We will 100% be back again next time we have a craving for a nyc-style BEC 😋

Raisin cinnamon bagel ($5), pastrami bagel ($15). Both bagels were super delicious - flavour/texture of bagels were good but the raisin needed to be heated up. Standout was the pastrami sandwich. Portion sizes are small though so order extra.

Its difficult to find a good roast in Sydney but this did not disappoint, its juts like home! We ordered the roast beef and roast pork. The portions were huge and the food was sooo tasty! We will definitely be ordering again!

Best bagels I’ve tried. They’ve mastered their recipe - not too thick and bready, perfect ratio to fillings, and really flavoursome. 5 stars, will be back again soon. Highly recommend trying this place out!

Fantastic bagel shop that reminds me of the bagels back in Canada. They serve Montreal style bagels instead of the thicker and puffier New York style which all other places in Australia serve. Their bagel sandwiches are also on point and super tasty. Hopefully one day they start making Rosemary rocksalt flavoured bagels that are so popular in Canada

Great local cafe, focaccia is like a sourdough cloud, really delicious. Coffee is great, bagels are solid, pastrami a little dry though. Would still recommend.

Great coffee, amazing bagels and a favourite of the locals. The Breaky Bagel is my staple go to, with the most amazing jalapeño relish. 🔥 You won’t be disappointed! Just leave enough for me 😬

The food here is great 5/5 tasty Customer service is poor 0/5 not friendly at all, coffee was served in takeaway cups instead of a normal ceramic cup.or plastic weird cups and they dont accept cash ! so i have to pay by card and pay more because of the square surcharge...plus my bank knows where i drink my coffee ( privacy issue ).this shop could be great but it wont unless the owners become friendly and actually appreciate the business they are getting...,,real shame..and seriously wont be be back because you dont take cash

The pastrami bagel was elite. I found the lox bagel to have a bit too much cream cheese. We waited a while for the turkey club and the guy gave us a two pastries to make up for the wait time which was lovely of him. There’s no indoor seating, just a couple of spots outside the shop so it’s really a pick up and go kinda spot. Positive experience.

Terrible service. The guy makes coffee there is on his "can't be bothered" mode. No apology for giving me a wrong coffee but blaming on his customer. Bakery service also just terrible🤦‍♂️If you're a local and happy with this place that's fine but if you're not from local I wouldn't suggest this place.

    1) Amazing customer service - super friendly staff. 2) They don't skimp on the sauce or filling - you can tell the menu was put together with delicate precision. 3) Some of the best coffee I've had within the summer hill/ dulwich hill area. I don't even like ham, but loved their HCP! These are literally THE best bagels in town 👌
