One of the best set menus I've tried to date! Highly recommend Bloodwood for modern Australian food in Newtown. Got the Chef's Banquet for $70pp which was amazing - favourites were the focaccia with pecan pate, polenta chips and lamb rump. Flavours were diverse but not too overpowering, really enjoyed the range of seasonings and sauces in the dishes. However, found the desserts to be a major let-down. Pina colada trifle was decent but the vanilla rice pudding was not pleasant, the balsamic roasted grapes were too sour and didn't go well with the rice pudding which wasn't very sweet. Chocolate cake also had an overpowering chocolate flavour. Aside from the desserts, still deserves a 5-star rating because of the other phenomenal dishes on the banquet. Water service was spot on, although food did take a bit long to come out in between courses. Interior is quite dim so best for a cosy but casual, relaxed dining atmosphere.

Good food, everything was sharing plates, but portions are decent so don't order too much! 3 items for 2 people was enough. Bit disappointed by the fried chicken though, probably wouldn't order that again

A very nice concept, with a nice specialty menu. The service is excellent, the design is quite interesting. The food is delicious and the team is helpful and generous. The table are so close and it gets really noisy when it is fully booked in a way that could hear the people sitting on the next table clearly along with the noise coming from downstairs as well.

Another thumbs up 👍 for this creative veggie focused restaurant. As a non-veggie I found their dishes surprisingly yummy. Excellent for foodies. There's a good wine selection as well. Recommend the shared plates option over the set menu. Servers are very sensitive to customers'individual needs, such as allergies. This is a MUST try if one is vegetarian. Reservations are required at this popular venue.

I finally made it to Bloodwood! I was expecting a friendly, relaxed local vibe & it was. I was also expecting pleasant food done well. It was so much more than that. Everything we ate was divine but the duck spring rolls are amazing & definitely don’t go past the sides. The sautéed butternut & the corn with shaved cabbage are worth going for on their own! 🤩

Food is delightful and so are their drinks, we chose the banquet menu and were very satisfied with our choice. The greatest highlight (among many) was the desserts, hands down! The flavours are complex and really ends your evening on a sweet and blissful high. Most importantly, the staff are vibrant and friendly and really quite funny!

Cosy atmosphere, friendly customer service and the price of the food justified the quality of the food. Received fantastic customer service experience and special thanks to Sabrina for looking after us during our visit with great enthusiasm 😀 stake was the most liked from our group followed by the chickpeas pancakes. Restaurant and food quality five starts 👌 however, Newton area is challenging area to find a car park, therefore public transport or taxi types service is ideal methods of transport to get there unless you are local.

Great atmosphere and delicious food. What more could you ask for. You’d never realise how big this place is by walking past it on the street, but the back section can fit quite a few people. It’s hidden feel creates a great atmosphere. Defiant worth giving it a go. The food was also great (we got the banquet menu) and the service absolutely matched. Couldn’t be happier.

Amazing restaurant, really lovely and helpful staff. Good selection of food, caters to all dietary requirements. Share plates, with a banquet option. Definitely would say it's worth the price. The pecan pate was out of this world, and the special we had (a mushroom tart tatin) was incredible. Very good meal!!

I've been to Bloodwood twice, and the latest time was even better than the first. It's a bit of a tapas vibe, so we had 8 dishes for 5 people, which was absolutely perfect for us. The food came out SO fast. The absolute stars of the night were the Ocean Trout, Prawn Toast, and the Beef Skewer. Absolutely incredible flavours. 10/10 for all three of these dishes. The two I wouldn't order again were the Duck and the Octopus. Duck was cooked perfectly and had a sour rhubarb sauce. Needed a tiny bit more sweetness to be amazing. The Octopus was a weird one. Not a fan of the flavour combo on there. Very bitter with the charcoal. The drinks were great. Would recommend the Pommy cocktail to anyone. Their spicy margarita packs a real punch. The staff were absolutely fantastic, attentive, and the drinks were flowing quickly. Our waitress was so caring and supportive of managing our table's allergies. Took her time explaining the menu in detail to ensure we were comfortable. There were no peanuts on the menu (perfect for peanut allergies) and use minimal dairy. They also offered vegan alternatives for a lot of food items if that's what you're into. We finished the night with the rice pudding and the chocolate fudge cake. Both were absolutely lovely. The cake was dense and delectable, and the rice pudding had these AMAZING little balsamic grapes on top. Overall, an incredible evening. The whole table was so happy with the whole night. We'll be back again for sure.

Came on a Monday night and it was happening. Constant flow of customers- not too many dinner places open on Monday so very thankful this place was! And till late too. Food was delicious and service was friendly and efficient.

Amazing food, service and atmosphere!! Most things on the menu were gluten free or could be made gluten free which was so wonderful to experience as i have coeliac disease. We had such a lovely time and will definitely be returning!

My 3rd visit from Camperdown, The 2 chef's menu is creative and exhilarating after 40 years in Restauration myself this is a pearl in a sea of mediocrity and Andrew the sommelier is a fountain of knowledge and advice .And no I am not related to these amazing people. Just go and enjoy and spread the word. Some of the staff are less than fabulous sadly, need better training and more invested in their career

An industrial restaurant with fantastic service and a gorgeous range of dishes to try out. Their scallops are delicious and fresh. The polenta chips were piping hot and yummy. There is a lovely range of cocktails, the Pommy and Peruvian Fairy were both refreshing. The fried chicken and pork skewer were the stand out mains for the night. All the staff are welcoming, smiling and helpful. Great place for couples/friends/family and there is a large downstairs table for parties/events. The kitchen is open and everyone thanked us upon leaving. Now I know why my friend recommended this place! I will be back and highly suggest giving Bloodwood a visit.

Got the banquet meal and the food was absolutely delicious 👌🏼 the Beauregarde Sour cocktail was so yummy (on the sweet side)!! Love how the banquet was quite balanced with scrumptious meat, refreshing veggies, crunchy carbs and everything in between! Fav things were the scallops, the pecan pate 🤌🏻🤌🏻🤌🏻🤌🏻🤌🏻🤌🏻🤌🏻, the beetroot dish, and the lamb 😍😍😍 (wow I have never wanted to eat so much lamb in my life!!) the port jelly in the trifle was also delicious. Anyway, just come to Bloodwood and try it out for yourself ! 🤣

We had a wonderful dining experience at Bloodwood which is in the heart of Newtown. Every dish we tried was delicious and full of flavour. We enjoyed the bar area which has lovely cocktails and it was great to try some of the local beers. The service was spectacular and the staff couldn’t do enough. This is one of the best restaurants we’ve tried. We will definitely be going back!

We have been coming to Bloodwood for 10 years. The food is always delicious with new things to try as the menu changes often. The service is friendly and welcoming and most often the restaurant is packed which gives it a good buzz. Lots of interesting vegetarian options too.

It was a really excellent experience overall - the staff were great, the setting was relaxed and the food was great value for the quality of the food. The portion and price point does mean you can try a few dishes even between 2-3 people which is great. I think for my personal taste - the blue cheese sauce that went with the polenta could’ve been a lot stronger. Also the olive oil was soooo delicious and fruity on the day we were there - it was great on some dishes but I think it slightly overpowered the beef tartare. The kingfish was outstanding.

Bloodwood is a great spot for a premium dining experience in a relaxed, casual setting. The staff are very supportive and accommodating and can vary many dishes to suit allergies, diets and general preferences. The lamb is a must try. I haven't yet had a dish there that I didn't like.

A hidden gem in the heart of Newtown. A nice cosy bar and restaurant with delicious food and delightful drinks for everyone to enjoy. Food was very nice and was quite reasonable for the quality of each dish. If you like fine dining on a budget this would be close to it as the food was very nice. We had a few share plates and cocktails. The service was very good too. Highly recommend for a date night!

I love this place! You can book at 7pm, not 6pm or 8pm, neither of which is ideal and seems the norm now. Throw a dart in the menu and get a great dish. First date, group of friends or bring your mum, they’ve got you. A wide selection of veggie options that meat eaters will love as well. Friendly, knowledgeable staff. Come, you’ll love it. Forgot to take photos, was too busy enjoying the food, sorry.

Fabulous food and ambience. The music 🎶 was great. Really loved the friendly and polite service. They actually know their food so well and take pride in that. From a simple bread to the cheese platter, all the things we ordered were impressive. Would be definitely back as it was an experience to remember.

Food is poor. Way too much salt. Not enough garlic and the lamb was a goop of tasteless rubbish. I can not recommend this at all. Wayyyy too expensive A massive let down even to the children's school chairs and over priced wines. Sorry but was not a good experience at all, infact i feel this was the worst experience in Sydney for a so called quality restauran Staff were great except from it appears the manager who was grumpy and not welcoming at all

The food was amazing! Loved the pecan pate, sticky pork, lamb... everything. Dessert and wines were delicious too! Exceeded all expectations. Great service too. Got a bit loud with lots of people in a small space towards the end but will definitely be back.

A hip Newtown local restaurant serving beautiful share plates and wine. Usually jam packed even on weeknights this is a great place to relax and have a casual meal. We had a their highly recommended beef brisket, polenta chips with blue cheese and a savoury chickpea pancake. Beautiful meals. Great service.

Food was tasty, service was great. We did not wait long for our food either. Prices were a little expensive and the menu could have been bigger. Overall it was a good experience.

I chose the scallops, the King Fish crudo, the abricot crumble, which were so delicious... A nice chilled red French wine to accompany... Great quality ingredients and talented chefs. A balanced and successful mix of sophisticated cuisine in a relaxed ambiance with excellent service. A place I certainly want to go back to. What a good surprise!

I was strolling around Newtown looking for a suitable place to grab a nice dinner and drinks and nearly gave up hope until I came across Bloodwood. It’s a beautiful tapas restaurant with creative twists on classic dishes. My server Sophia was incredibly knowledgeable with the wines and food and the bartender made some great suggestions for whiskys and cocktails. Overall, exactly what I was looking for in a dining experience. Exquisite food and drink backed by wonderfully attentive staff, definitely would recommend.

Wine and service great. Food was average for a standard priced restaurant and poor given the pricing. Would not recommend.

A warm place with a lovely warm vibe and setting. The food her is cooked very well and has a varying flavour palette! There's lots of unique and experimental dishes that are worth a try!! It can be a little pricey for the portion you get but the dishes are definitely unique!

It is a great place for a date night in Newtown. Nice food and wine in a nice environment for a good price. The food we ordered was delicious, especially the polenta chips and the beef tartare.

Wonderful service, real kudos to the staff. The food selection is interesting enough, but I had greater expectations based on previous comments. The fried chicken in a sweet chilly sauce was good, but I wish there was some part other than the chicken thighs. We were after some good dairy-free dishes, but most choices were modifying the original recipe by taking the dairy part out which left us with an underwhelming impression. Oh and my gin and tonic was really watery.

Sat here for 15 minutes and all I got was a glass of sparkling water and low self esteem

Way overpriced for what you get. The atmosphere out the back in the open area was nice, but that doesn’t make up for the food which looked like something at a hospital cafeteria. Wait staff a little dull also and could use some people skills - a bit like they’ve draaaagged themselves in there to work.
