So thrilled Dully finally has cool live music. Nice decor with a crimson, aubergine palette. The band is playing "Why did you do it" by Stretch (from Lock, Stock and 2 Smoking Barrels), I have a flute of sparkling rose and I'm in bliss. They don't do food yet, so if you get the munchies, just pop next door to Manmaru and get some dumplings. Winning! ETA: Sadly and regrettably I have changed my review from 5 to 3 stars. I returned a second time with a friend at approximately 740pm on a Tuesday night not sure how long we'd be. Got a round of drinks. The jazz band started at 8 and i got another round of drinks at the bar at approx 8:10, expecting to pay cover charge then, but wasnt charged. A couple of minutes later a lady darted to me abruptly and sharply asked for cover charge. I understand there may have been a lack of communication earlier, and didn't mind being approached but the manner with which it it was done wasn't "hospitable" in the very slightest and it means I am very unlikely to ever return, nor recommend. We stayed for one more song and left. Sad.

Great little bar. Awesome atmosphere and reasonably priced drinks. Lovely to be able to order food from Manmaru next door and get it delivered to your table. $10 cover charge after 7.30 PM for the band... cheap entertainment. Highly recommend you spend a great evening here.

I attended Butcher's Brew Bar today, Saturday 11th May. I am a vocalist and was performing in a trio called Peter Head and the Soul Sista's. We do a mix of originals, and classic soul, blues and gospel music, with lots of harmony. We played from 3-6pm and a jazz group were starting at 8 until 11pm. Butcher's Brew is a very small bar with a capacity of about 35/40 people and serve drinks only, no food. They charge a $10 entry which goes toward payment for the musicians. It's a friendly little bar and has comfortable padded chairs and tables and a clear view of the band. Today, I saw people chatting that had only just met, and singing along with some of the classics. Everyone complimented us as they left and said they thoroughly enjoyed the afternoon. It is open during the week as well and presents a wide variety of music, and has a very good sound system which is clear and not loud. I highly recommend Butcher's Brew for all these reasons. You can receive their emails or messages which tell you who is performing and a little about them. Go check it out and support live music. Remember to ask when Peter Head and the Soul Sista's are playing next... 😍❀ thanks..

Great small and atmospheric venue for blues. Fun place. Only 2 craft beers on tap but good selection of others. Cocktails, wine. Who gets who complain about the prices miss the point that this is a venue for music and in that context ticket price + drinks are very reasonable. First time we have gone there and loved it.

Butchers Brew has become my go to venue for live music when I'm in Sydney. Due to pokies (which to be clear there are none of here, Google incorrectly tagged this venue with 'slot machine' simply because I mentioned them) and more recently the lock out laws, the Sydney live music scene has been systematically whittled away and it's great that a place like this exists to keep it alive. Some of the reviewers here seem to be hankering for the Sydney of old when there was a plethora of live music venues which due to their size could afford to charge a lower cover or none at all. I miss those days too but today's reality means you have to pay a (still modest) cover to hear quality live music. The owner has taken a lot of time to try and explain this but some people clearly believe that some people's work deserves to be paid whilst others' doesn't. Keep up the great work and thank you for your commitment to a vibrant and sustainable industry.

Expected it to be small but it was more the bad layout that made it overall uncomfortable. Well that and the awful seats/stools and a rather pushy somewhat rude person (I presume owner) that pounced on us as we entered and insisted we sit at the front which had she pushed the issue further I would have had to leave I don't go out to be put on the spot or be made anxious. House white was very vinegary and expensive. Cover charge for the night was honestly too much I know it's a small venue and therefore you need to maximise profit per person but the Comedy Club at Moore Park is far cheaper both for initial ticket and drinks when inside, it also runs for a lot longer. Wouldn't go back. Judging by the owners responses to other critical reviews I can see they don't take criticism well attacking reviewers and suggesting they go to an RSL was neither funny nor endearing perhaps grow a backbone or consider a career move if you don't like negative feedback.

Went with friends to have a couple of drinks. Got there early in the night and approached by a staff member to see if we were there for the band. Our response was no. 15 minutes after band set up we were asked if we were staying??? Clearly, only those paying cover charges are welcome in this establishment. Disappointing and dangerous for the owners as there are so many bars and pubs around waiting to make patrons feel welcome. Generally, you only pay a cover charge at the door after a certain hour. If you have been in the bar for a while it seems inappropriate to go around pressing for money.

Great cosy, eclectic bar with fantastic live music. Not sure what’s going on with the $12 beers? If they were a reasonable price, I would have spent more money there.

Second time visiting the Butcher’s Brew and couldn’t be happier that we found this hidden gem. Can’t fault the music at all, and unbelievable value for money. Great atmosphere, very accommodating staff and a more than adequate selection of wines. Had a fabulous night with the jazz band performing this evening; more than happy to go above and beyond (3 sets yippee). Legends.

I recently want to an event at The Butchers Brew to see a band. I arrived at 3pm to find out there was a cover charge of $10 for the first band. I was very happy to pay. We stayed for four hours, watched the great music and drank, spending quiet a lot at the bar for my group of friends. Upon finding out a second band was playing I thought we would stay to watch, only to be informed that we needed to pay another $15 cover charge for the second band. Unfortunately we decided to leave. If we were to stay to see the third band, would the owner have expected us to pay another $15? A total of $45 entry fee? I’ve never been to a venue where I have been charged two cover chargers. This is a small venue with a capacity of only 47 people. I suggest if you want bums on seats and people to stay drinking at your bar, don’t double of triple charge your patrons for entry fees. Perhaps a donation would be a more realistic approach. Very disappointing and somewhat strange business model.

Great wee β€œdive bar”, think we’ve conquered the cocktail menu several times and try to show our support for a local business. There’s been a few times that we’ve timed it perfectly to see a band, an added bonus and a good way to either unwind from a stressful day or just adds to the atmosphere whilst enjoying (you guessed it) a cocktail 😁 Always greeted with a smile and banter, very personal which is just one of many reasons that we keep on returning. Keep up the great workπŸ‘

A small intimate venue with live music. A high recommendation from me. I had the privilege of being served by Luka, a fantastic bar man who prepared fantastic cocktails. I will definitely return for them. Sidenote: I witnessed an RSA call by Luka against a man possibly named Tommy who had ordered three old fashions. Against abuse received from "tommy" , Luka was the benchmark for the appropriate response for the response that any person should ever have to receive. Had this been my venue, "Tommy" would have been escorted out along with his crew. Best wishes for Luka and the team behind Butchers Brew Bar

Fabulous Sydney venue that hosts live music practically every night of the week. It's cosy and only holds 47 people, but it's perfect for intimate performances and small gatherings. Great atmosphere, and beautiful funky decor. What a find! I hadn't been to this venue before but will definitely be back. Caroline was so welcoming and accommodating, and the service from barman Frankie was excellent. Butcher's Brew is a real gem! Free parking and plenty of dining options close by too.

I recently booked a table for 6:30pm & received an email confirming the booking. We got to the bar at 6:20pm only to see a sign on the door saying that it didn't open until 7pm. Even though the website said that it was Open at the time we were there. We decided not to wait 40mins so went to another bar for dinner/drinks. We were disappointed as we were both from out of town & had heard so much good stuff about the Bar.

Great drink service, No in house food but you can order food from the Japanese restaurant 2 doors down. Love how they support local musicians which plays live. Come in early to secure a seat, seats starts to get filled by 8pm so come earlier that 8pm. It's a cosy place (small) yet has a nice cosy vibe and great old school cocktails to match.

We had such high hopes when we found out this place was coming to Dulwich Hill.. the positives - brilliant live music, definitely worth the cover charge and a good pick on the wine list! I wish the interior design had been thought about more - the bar takes up way too much space compared to the size of the venue, the timber bench along the long side of the room doesn’t need to be two tier, it could be redesigned to take up way less space and create more walking room to help people get to the back end of the bar.. speaking of the back of the bar.. the back corner could be much better utilized by swapping the big table and large chairs for a wrap around timber bench and stools. The interior decor is mismatched but has so much potential with a bit of decluttering. I really, really want this place to succeed because as a local I’d love to come here on a Saturday afternoon and listen to great music with friends - perhaps with a rethink of the interiors this place can really shine!!

I'm not sure what this place is like these days because I haven't been for a couple years. I found the beer prices too high (around 20-25% higher than other places nearby). That said, the fact that there is live music in DH is great. In regards to cover charge, I tend to agree with several of the reviewers here - don't charge people to stay for the second performance if they're staying from the first. Firstly, you lose drink sales, secondly the band doesn't care anyway. It's much more important to the band to get the audience than to get the fairly trivial door collection, particularly if they're promoting their music.
