The food is great! That pizza crust is absolutely divine. We had two with vegan mozzarella and two with dairy cheese. All four pizzas were great. The standout was the four cheese pizza with honey. Add some of that chilli oil and you're on a winner. Service is great and super friendly. We arrived early on a Saturday evening for dinner without a booking and they were able to seat us outside, which was excellent. It's obviously very popular and the place filled up quickly. Orders for takeaway were streaming out too. Sitting outside was a bit noisy because of the traffic. Try and get an inside table if you can.

Updated 20.11.2023 I put 5 stars previously though. We felt really uncomfortable being at this restaurant tonight. Apart from the negroni's that were waiting on our table which we requested for Anniversary was great. I have had the worst experience ever there. They accepted us making a booking at 8pm, but when we arrived there we felt like we were in a rush because the waitress who has blonde blade hair, told us their pizza kitchen would close in 20 minutes and she came again and again what we would order. We asked to get a bottle of wine and she poured and put the wine without saying anything, any details of wine or letting us taste it. And after being there within 1 hour she put the bill on our table without saying anything again even though we didn't finish our wine yet. We had to leave there after 1 hour of sitting. The food was amazing as always, but the customer service was the worst we've ever had there. We've been coming to Pizza Madre for years and service has always been amazing, but tonight was not so. We've been recommending this restaurant to our friends but we can't do that anymore because of her attitude. Just purely disappointed. We didn't see the manager or owner today, so hopefully this situation will be better/fixed when they're there.

The pizzas here are absolutely amazing and probably one of the best pizzas we have ever had. The pizza base is delicious, and the toppings are so tasty you forget it's vegetarian! We will definitely come back to try the other pizzas! Highly recommended. As they change the menu monthly, it keeps you wanting to come back for more flavors, especially unique ones like Pizza Madre. We tried the following pizzas: 🥔🍠Roasted Potato & Jerusalem Artichoke Cream: The combination of flavors in this pizza was outstanding. The roasted potato and creamy Jerusalem artichoke spread worked together harmoniously, creating a delightful taste experience. 🧀🌶️Grana Padano Cream, Cime di Rapa & Fermented Chilli: This pizza had a perfect balance of spicy and savory. The Grana Padano cream added a rich and creamy element, while the fermented chili gave it a nice kick. The cime di rapa added a pleasant bitterness that complemented the other ingredients perfectly. 🥕🥬Carrot Puree, Baby Kale & Goat Curd: THE STAR OF THE NIGHY This pizza was a delightful surprise. The sweetness of the carrot puree paired beautifully with the tangy goat curd, and the baby kale added a fresh and vibrant touch. The combination of flavors was simply divine. The pizza dough at this MADRE is so light and fluffy that it would make any food taste good. They have a great range of ever-changing toppings that keep you intrigued and excited about trying something new each time you visit. In my opinion, their best dish is the memorable 'Pistachios Tiramisu.' I couldn't resist taking some with me, and I'm already craving more. It was a delicious twist on the classic coffee tiramisu, elevated to a whole new level with the addition of pistachios. The flavors were perfectly balanced, and it left me wanting more. The ambiance of the restaurant is trendy, welcoming, and cozy. The staff were incredibly welcoming, polite, and knowledgeable about their food. Their passion for their craft shines through in the quality of their dishes and the service they provide. If you're a pizza lover looking for an extraordinary culinary experience, pizza madre is a must-visit. Trust me, you won't be disappointed! 🍽️ Enjoy and indulge! 🍽️ Follow Ms.QUASON on instagram for more foods reviews

One of the best pizzas places in Sydney. Despite being vegan/vegetarian the pizzas are tasty and flavourful. Highly recommend the pumpkin and broccolini pizza. If you are feeling cheeky, the tiramisu is great too! Would come back in a heart beat!

Very good pizza with a nice range of unique and high quality toppings. Lovely thin pizza base with just the right balance of toppings. Wine list is limited but quite pizza-friendly although perhaps a little overpriced (a common problem right across Sydney restaurants). I had no issue with the service which seems to be a complaint with some other reviewers. It may be a little over-enthusiastic at times but it's efficient and attentive and delivery is speedy as pizza should be. (They do seem to be a little numerically challenged but hipster culture often has trouble dealing in antique payment forms like cash!) Not really suited to large groups or leisurely dining but keep in mind that it's a pizza joint not a Michelin-rated restaurant and you'll enjoy the experience.

I came to this wonderful little restaraunt in Marrickville last week with my friends and family for my birthday. The service was warm and attentive (thank you Sophia!) and the food delicious, particularly the smoked mozzarella margherita and King Brown mushroom pizzas. I was also treated to a happy birthday candle cake and sing-a-long by the staff 😀 A bit of old school charm in a funky eclectic place.

First time visit, a bit quiet at Saturday lunch. Saw the fresh roasted miso eggplant when entering the restaurant, ordered the eggplant salad. Also picked king mushroom pizza. Size is very generous. They only do vegetarian pizzas and menu changes every month, they would update it on ins. I would definitely give it another go for more vegetarian pizzas.

Pizza Madre is now one of my top 5 pizza places in Sydney and that’s saying something because I love a good slice! These folks have somehow kept all the important parts of what makes a pizza great and then shaken up the rest to make it exciting and fun again. Best part: not one animal was hurt for my slice. We had an eggplant and fermented chilli pizza and it was sensational. Creamy, zesty with a super mild spice-hum to liven the tastebuds. We ordered through the website and arrived just as we paid online - very simple process. A friendly staff-member came outside and greeted us and took note of our order. Our pizza was in our hands in about 15 minutes. Well done pizza made: you’ve stolen a pizza my heart 💜

If you don't think Sydney is a pizza city then this is one of those places that provides the perfect example for how delicious, dissected and diverse we can make and elevate the disc-shaped dish. In the past year Madre has especially broken on it's own tether to try grandiose ideas in vegetarian and vegan 'zas. With an ever rotating menu of both toppings – a drool-worthy selection of local produce – combined into creative compositions (think broccoli puree, artichoke hearts, cauliflower, hummus) and, of course, crispy house wines. The dough itself is pliable, with a robust pull yet crispy exterior that provides both layers of taste, texture and ease of digestibility. You can easily do a pizza per person and not feel like you need to hit 10 kms on the treadmill. Dine in if you can, the vibe of this space is something to be appreciated without pretension.

The restaurant is super popular, with up to 10 people waiting to get in at any time so be prepared to wait. It get really busy with numerous walks in and lots of people buying takeaway. Food can take a little longer than usual but it is worth the wait. Probably in the top 3 best pizzas I have ever had in my entire life. Incredibly delicious. The dough is to die for. I will come back!

Best pizza I’ve had in Sydney. Despite being vegetarian it’s so tasty and the dough is incredible. Menu seems to change often. But I used to love the black garlic one

Stressful place to eat. Service was very rude with wait staff constantly interrupting our conversation by pouring our wine in between the group mid conversation or rushing us by clearing our plates. Our table was cleared within an hour of us sitting down so we could hardly catch up with friends. Not going back even if food was ok.

Beautiful slow fermented pizzas with fresh seasonal ingredients were absolutely delicious and creative. Charred broccolini with confit garlic was a show stopper. The pistachio tiramisu was a stunner. Loved the Negroni and was pleased to see a range of great drinks.

One of the few very good vegetarian pizza joints in Sydney. The dough is always chewy and incredibly tasty and I enjoy their seasonal pizzas. Definitely one to visit this end of Marrickville.

  • 5/5 Hayley L. 1 year ago on Google
Highly recommend the four cheese pizza! It’s not greasy and overly heavy, and the honey was a very nice addition. Lemon gin slushy was very light but soooo yummy. Absolutely the highlight of the night! Definitely make a booking. Line can get long. Also worth the wait for the pizzas, although they take a while to come out.

We know Pizza Madre gets super busy so we booked a table and arrived early. The pizzas here are absolutely amazing and probably one of the best pizzas we have ever had. The pizza base is delicious and the toppings are so tasty you forget it's vegetarian! There's a good selection of beer and wine also. The waitress we had was super friendly and helpful. We will definitely come back to try the other pizzas! Highly recommended.

Heard so much about this place, really good, best around etc… Well, the pizza itself is good, very good! Unfortunately the whole experience was not worth it, I ordered my pizzas to take away , received my confirmation order on my phone and a group of customers came to dine in, they ordered and had time to almost finish their dinner that my own order wasn’t ready. Too bad 😔

I can say with confidence one of the best Neapolitan pizza joints in Sydney. Each pizza was perfectly thin with a chewy and airy crust. My personal favourite was the tomato based one and truffle potato pizzas. Will come back for excellent food and friendly amazing service too 😀

  • 5/5 Phillip N. 2 years ago on Google
Delicious pizza where you won’t miss the meat. The thin base is full of flavour and the staff are very accomodating. We loved the cacio e pepe pie.

Friendly staff but the pizzas are bit dry and over rated. Seats are extremely uncomfortable.

  • 5/5 Michelle L. 3 years ago on Google
Sensational pizzas here. The crust is crispy and thin and the cheese is delicious and fresh. Ingredients artistically chosen to provide a delicate but delicious balance of flavour. We had the yellow tomato pizza and the mushroom and kumera pizza. Worth the travel.

Great sourdough pizza restaurant in Marrickville with a unique menu that changes monthly. Have been coming here for years and no complaints about the food or drinks. Unfortunately they have stopped simply splitting bills two ways - we were rudely told no this evening for the first time after always being accomodating. Not ideal for friends or couples dining together and saw them miss a tip tonight after an abrupt no and a machine shoved in-front of us. Will reconsider returning with friends.

Pizzas were quite nice however didn't realise they were all vegetarian. Would have liked to have had an option. Cucumber Salad was a little small and dissapointing.

  • 5/5 AW 9 months ago on Google
Came here with a friend on a Friday night. Was nice and cosy inside. Friendly service and recommend the pizza. Had the vegan pizza and pumpkin salad (which really wasn't the salad I was expecting). Overall the pizza was light and delicious. Would come again to try their other options too.

We noticed, once seated, that was a Vegetarian Pizzeria, which we are not, but being there, still wanted to try it. The staff was very friendly and I think that would be pretty much all... The wine was ok but not great.Looks like they are changing the menu on a monthly basis. That's why I will put 3 stars, even if my end feeling was definitely lower. ---- The price... For having a skinny pizza with less ingredients than a "normal" one, for twice the price, doesn't make really sense to me... Ok, the quality of the products was there which was to be expected for the price, but that s it for me. If you are vegan/vegetarian, try it, if you are not, you will most likely find better choices in Marrickville and around.

Inventive and fresh vegetarian pizzas. Recommend the burrata with bread and the rock melon salad. Service is friendly but could be more attentive with water. Plenty of street parking available

Incredible food and great ambience! We came on a Sunday night and it was packed with great music :) The only complaint I have is that the service was a bit slow. We ordered: ⭐️ Cauliflower with hummus — So yum and one of the best ways I’ve seen cauliflower prepared ⭐️ Zucchini flower pizza — Deliciousss & unique toppings. Loved the ricotta ⭐️ Cherry tomato & pesto pizza — A classic pizza with a delicious base ⭐️ Pistachio Tiramisu — So good, the pistachio really added depth to this simple dessert

  • 5/5 Tom S. 7 months ago on Google
Great pizza restaurant. Loved the potato pizza! (Potato pizzas my fave though). All the food is vegetarian I believe. Softest tiramisu I’ve ever had. Very nice. Apparently the menu changes regularly so there is always something new to try. Reasonably priced. Nice vibes. On warm night it’s nice to sit outside. Would recommend booking.

Who would have thought vegetarian could taste so good! The pizza base is superb! So much flavour. The classic Margarita is my favourite followed by the cherry tomato & the potato. The pistachio is interesting but not to my taste. The burnt cheesecake dessert is 😋

Amazing food!! Cannot recommend this place enough. Went with a couple of friends so we got to share various meals and they were all a home run. The pizza crust was flavorful and fluffy without being overwhelming, the toppings all complemented each other to create a new flavor entirely. Everything was delicious! We were looked after by Andres, who was lovely and nailed the recommendations! Thank you for a great night!

Great vegan friendly pizza - the cauliflower one was so creamy and flavourful, perfectly paired with housemade chilli oil. The star of the show was the eggplant caponata! Perfectly balanced flavours where each ingredients shone through while complementing each other. Was pleasantly surprised to have orange wine included in the list of options, while my friend enjoyed a chilled red. Service was a bit odd at times (wrong order, last order reminder only 10 minutes from when we needed to leave). Overall a great place to enjoy a lovely veggo/vegan dinner.

Ordered two takeaway pizzas over the phone, the 4 cheese and the ox heart tomato, and the service on arrival was very good. Both were full of fragrant flavours and we didn’t miss the meat at all. The crust was very good too. Ps my bad photos don’t do the pizza justice

The staff are so friendly and happy, if the food wasn’t 10/10 then the service alone will make you come back. A waiter told us “you’ll forget about meat once you try our pizzas” and he wasn’t wrong!! The most delicious vegetarian pizzas and entree bursting with flavours. Looking forward to trying the next menu change!

I've been at Pizza Madre a couple of weeks ago with some friends. One of the best pizza I ever had (better then some pizza I had in Italy). I was very curious to try different vegetarian pizza (they are famous for that) and also every month they changed the menu. I’m just sorry not to be in the area to try each month something different. A big surprise were the salads. I tried the one with watermelon and it was absolutely delightful. This place is a must to try. You won't be disappointed! PS: The pistachio tiramisu was super!!

  • 5/5 Michael P. 9 months ago on Google
This is a very special place with pizza dough so light and fluffy it would make any food taste good. Thankfully they have a great range of ever changing toppings to entice you back on a regular basis. Salads are also creative and delicious. In my humble opinion, their best dish is the memorable 'Pistachios Tiramisu', which I drove from Homebush to have again a week later! Ambiance is trendy, welcoming and cosy depending on where you sit and the best thing about Madre are their staff, who are always welcoming, polite and informative about their food.

One of the best pizza that I’ve ever eaten. Charred cauliflower is a must, crunchy and the taste mix with cheese is exceptional. Staff is super friendly and helpful. Definitely will come back and bring my whole family so they can also try it.

Some of the best pizza I have had... the pizza's are bursting with delicious unique flavours on the best pizza dough, cooked to perfection. The Harrisa eggplant pizza is my favourite. Keep in mind they change their menu often so there are always new flavours to try. The watermelon salad was refreshing and yum! Delicious food and great service. Can't wait to come back.

So damn good! Ordered the lavender soda with gin, fennel salad and can't remember the pizza was blown away by both. Bloody delicious food and can attest to the pizza totally being able to be eaten whilst running to a gig at the Factory near by 👌 glad we booked and will be back.

A delicious vegetarian (and vegan) pizzeria in Marrickville. Great vibe to the place and friendly staff (can be a little forgetful during peak periods, but it was really busy). Solid range of wine (definitely try the Shiraz!) and pizza. Our favourite was probably the potato pizza, the appetizer nuts were also a delight and disappeared rather quickly! Also pet friendly if you sit outside 🙌 Worth a visit if you're local, recommend booking ahead as it's busy.

  • 4/5 Linda N. 3 years ago on Google
We've been to a few vegan/vegetarian pizzerias and the pizza base here is the best I've had! The base is light and crispy on the outside and soft and fluffy on the inside. The texture of vegan cheese was absolutely perfect, but it could do with an extra touch of flavour to make it more cheesy and salty (miso paste?). Other than that, overall flavours of the two pizzas we've had were excellent! Combinations of ingredients are unique, so we definitely want to come back to try out the other pizzas! The two waitresses who served us were also very friendly and sweet. One waitress in particular had a chat with us despite how busy it was. Very rare to find lovely waitresses in small, humble and chaotic restaurants.

Great pizzas and nice vibes. Our first pizza came out a bit cold but the other two were all good. Salad was a nice extra choice for a table of four. Have had pickup from them before which was also a bit cold. Would probably go again though!

Great negronis and natural wine list. Went for my birthday and had the best time. I understand sometimes the vegetarian flavours might be hit and miss but if you know you’re a picky eater then just try to choose the more traditional options. I loved all the pizzas we had but the king brown mushroom and the eggplant caponata were especially good. Service is always super friendly too.

  • 2/5 BJ K. 3 years ago on Google
We've been going to Madre for years and have loved the pizza. However, last night we were really disappointed with the quality, flavours and lack of generosity of the toppings. It was quite stingy actually. We'll give it one more try to see if it was an anomaly, but I'm not confident.

This place is exactly the kind of local venue one looks to find for a delicious satisfying, inexpensive and buzzy [but socially distant and adhering to the new normal). Small menu of 5 or 6 pizzas, all vegetarian which surprised me. We had one with broccoli puree base, chillies, feta, garlic, and other things I can't remember. I wanted all of them really. Lovely casual night. Quite loud though if you have hearing issues
