Isn't fair to judge a Greek restaurant when you're fresh off the boat from Milos? Nah, it's fair. The reviews here are good, and mama supervises all the meals. Thing is, not every mama is a good cook. Mine was great at starting cooking...she just never knew when to stop. Here the problem is flavour. There isn't any. The Greek salad is as sad as a chop out of a vertical griller (80s thing); the fava beans as bland as the can the tomato bath they're served in came from, and the vego moussaka would have benefited from the requisite quantity of advertised vegetables. The lamb was fair, and the haloumi edible. If the wine list was a plane, it would have been barely flown, and crash landed. The service is friendly, but the ambience hollow. It's a 2* place, but mama gets a 3rd star, just for old times sake.

Definitely a gem in Newtown! We were slightly put off by the reviews, but thought we'll give it a try anyway! And it didn't disappoint! It's a nice small place giving a rustic and cosy vibe. The staff were super friendly and so welcoming. We ordered the 3 dips, BBQ octopus, Arni Kleftiko, Youvetsi and Galatoboureko. The 3 dips is a must try! The octopus had nice texture, but could have done with a little more flavouring. The two lamb mains (Arni Kleftiko and Youvetsi) were amazing! The meat was so soft! And I would definitely recommend the dessert (Galatoboureko) ! We were a party of two, and I think 1 starter, 2 mains and 1 dessert would have been just the right quantity. Definitely coming back here again to try the rest of the menu! Hit a like, if this review was helpful 👍

Greek Goodness Like home made, very authentic Greek food. Lovely food. We went Friday night, lots of big groups and therefore very noisy but then that created a vibrant atmosphere. February very hot in Sydney and very hot in restaurant as door open and aircon ineffective. There were four of us and we asked for a seat by the window good position in this restaurant. There are a few outside tables too so this is a good option on a hot night. Definitely worth going to. Walkable from Newtown train station. Toilets on site and clean. This is a place for groups of friends not suitable for a date. Love your local guide-M❤️ Like or follow me if helpful.

Always lovely experience at 3 Olives. Ordered the mixed plate (olives, chorizo, haloumi with pita bread and garlic dip) + chicken skew (lovely oregano flavor) + mix dips (sorry no photo for that). Ingredients taste fresh with the right amount of herbs and flavorings - made you appreciate the fresh food flavor. So happy that they are back to full house on Friday / Saturday post covid. Not easy for small businesses. Prices at above your average price, but an occasional meal there to spoil yourself will be fine 🙂

3 Olives has a cozy and comfortable atmosphere with an amazing staff. The waiter was really helpful. Unfortunately, we were a big group with an activity booked after the dinner and, because the service was a bit slow, we couldn't enjoy the food as we wanted. On the other hand everything was delicious! We would recommend you to go with plenty of time and avoiding big groups. If they improve their timing and replace the plastic straws it will be perfect!

We love coming here, Olga is a sweet 80 year old Greek grandmother, who is very loving and cool! The food is fresh, rustic and traditional Greek, try the banquet at $45, lots of different flavours, beautiful flavours really, if you enjoy good food!! Taramasalata is divine. BYO is a bonus, my recommendation is to come here midweek and try and sample the real Olga’s Greek Loving Hospitality!!! Weekends can be a little mad with such yummy food for the price.

Absolutely disappointing. Poor quality unhealthy oily food , very small portions which cost us like a 5 star restaurant , ripped off. They plan to make you full with fat so you can’t complain about the portion size. We ordered 3 banquets which literally were 1 in size. It cost us $135 then they said you have to order a food for your child(6 years old) separately and then charged us $15 for that. Kid food were small and unhealthy. Wine also were low quality and the banquet wasn’t included dessert! Wish I could give them zero star.We went there 7 years ago and it was completely a different dining experience . I am not sure if the owner is still the same I really doubt if they are. I can’t understand where all the good reviews come from, perhaps they are fake reviews…terrible experience.

Things to know when going to 3 Olives: 1. Olga is AMAZING, such a great human being, she will make you feel at your grandmoms... 2. Plates are big, really generous portions. 3. Small restaurant, great atmosphere, local gem... 4. Get ready to find yourself loving Greek gastronomy

This place is seriously close to perfection! The food and service was amazing! There was nothing that I didn't enjoy. Healthy, delicious food! The service was so good as well. Olga, the owner, was a lovely, warming and kind person, and the server was pretty nice and funny. The whole experience was perfect! I am glad I could get to know this place. Thank you

Cute little Greek restaurant in Newtown with a whole lot of personality. This restaurant was unassumingly good. Despite the modest exterior, the food was all prepared / made beautifully, with authentic flavours and generous servings. We tried a variety of food, including: - Three dips - all unique and with their own special selling points. They all complemented the bread well and were so good that we ended up adding it to our other dishes - Octopus - yum. Cooked well, with a good texture and taste. Easy to consume and not overly chewy or tough - Salad with artichokes: good flavour and balance between the different flavours of the sauce. Please note, this is not a light salad. It makes you feel quite fj The - Barramundi: not too good, but keep in mind that I’m not a huge fan of barramundi. I liked the potatoes and tomatoes. - The vegetarian ……: enjoyable. They were very generous with the feta, and the zucchini was nice too. Tomatoes were nice and sweet - Dessert: we got the baklava and also the other traditional sweet dessert. They both had a nice flakey pastry, but I’d say the baklava was slightly too sweet. I liked the inner custard texture of the Greek dessert! Very enjoyable Even though the food was good on its own, the staff were really the best part of this experience. The staff were so friendly, welcoming and conversational. The guy who took our order and served our food was full of good energy and attitude (in a good way). It was great throwing around some jokes and banter with him. The lady who (I assume) makes the food was super sweet and came by each table to talk to the patrons. The attention and care that we received was different to what you normally get these days at restaurants, and it was greatly received and appreciated. They even gave us Turkish Delights at the end of our meal - I don’t know if this is a normal thing for Greek or Mediterranean restaurants, but to us it was quite a nice surprise! I would definitely recommend dining at this restaurant, not only for the food but also the amazing service!

Wow, I must say, this place is an absolute gem! From the moment we stepped in, we were blown away by the exceptional service, authentic food, and beautiful atmosphere. I cannot emphasize enough how grateful we are to the staff for their amazing service and care. Every dish we savored was a delightful journey into authenticity, bursting with fresh flavors that were simply divine. A special mention goes to Olga, the remarkable owner of the restaurant, who treated us like cherished family members rather than mere customers. Honestly, no amount of words can truly capture the essence of this place. It's an experience that needs to be lived firsthand to be fully appreciated.

Such a fantastic experience! The waiter was attentive and funny and the female owner was so warm and sweet. And the food- bloody incredible! I ordered the lamb and it was perfection. It fell off the bone and melted like butter in your mouth and the overall flavours of the dish were incredible. The portions were large also, compared to most other places in Sydney so very good value for money. Such an amazing experience, will definitely return! ❤️

On a very late windy night, we stumbled upon this gem after another restaurant closed earlier as expected and turned us away. We're incredibly happy that they still offered to make it happen even though it was very close to closing time! The vibe of the restaurant radiated coziness and smelled incredible. On top of that the service was super friendly and we were even attentively and patiently given recommendations during such late hours. The food was prepared speedily and tasted fantastic - the octopus especially was incredibly tender. In addition we were given some dessert for free which is always lovely :) Cannot wait to be back!

My daughter and I tried 3 Olives for the first time tonight and had a fantastic experience. Warm, welcoming, full of character and heart (and that's just the wonderful owner), delicious authentic home cooked tasting food - and amazing service. It doesn't get better than this. We'll definitely be back :)

Amazing amazing experience, went with the family, the food is very tasty. Natalie was extremely friendly and she even gave us an advice to adjust the order as it will be more than we think, indicating the portions of the food are actually good...At the end , this experience is worth every penny. Its also a taste that you won't find somewhere else. Thanks heaps.

3 Olives is my FAVOURITE restaurant in Sydney! The Greek lady who runs the restaurant is one of the kindest people I’ve ever met - she made such lovely conversation with us and gave us such a wholesome experience. The food was 11/10 - to die for - and it was an all-round incredible experience. I would recommend 3 Olives to anyone looking for tasty food and kind service.

My partner and I came at essentially peak hour on a Saturday about 2 weeks ago and they graciously arranged a table for us, even though we didn’t have a booking. The service was lovely, the food was delicious and the dessert (my favourite - galaktoboureko) was incredible. My boyfriend doesn’t like desserts and even he loved it! Not too sweet, just right. The restaurant is small but cozy, they gave us a complimentary Turkish delight each at the end of the meal. Pricing was standard for the area and for Greek food, $75 for two mains and a dessert. It was great - thank you for the lovely night :)

Great family run business! Restaurants like this are sadly becoming few and far between. Upon arrival our party were met excitedly by staff and guided to our table. Throughout the meal other family members of the business greeted us, checked in on our meals and service and even sat with us for a short period to exchange names and where we were visiting from. Could not have been made to feel more welcome 🤗 Pleasingly the love and attention to detail was transferred into our meals which were all delicious! Excited to return 😃

We stumbled upon this jewel while walking the streets of Newtown. The food is authentic, flavours are amazing and the host is lovely. Special shoutout to the host Olga for not only welcoming us into her restaurant with a warm smile and friendly demeanour but also taking out the time to sit down and chat with us and tell us a bit about herself and know a bit about us. We had a great time and will be sure to go back.

👍 Best restaurant for South Indian dishes. Worth a try of Biryani. Tried Tandoori Soya today and it was the best I ever had here. Egg65 Biryani was so tasty. Crispy Baby corn was bad seemed like it was not fresh. You should not let your standards drop.
