Free minibar was completely empty, not even milk for coffee. When we asked about it, the staff were kind enough to send up a bottle of red plonk! Dead cockroach in the carpet ( to be expected for inner city), and desk chair had a broken arm. Great location and funky but they need to lift their game.

I stayed here one night a week for three sequential weeks as the location was convenient to my travel. I had high expectations as I'd heard from others about the awesome complimentary mini bar if booking direct online. I did this but sadly the bar was bare/non-existent. Reading other reviews I uncovered many complaints about the mank nature of the woven plastic carpet that just needs to be burned asap. It was sticky in some areas and stank all over. I could actually hear the chatter of foot fungus over the din of street noise below. You'll either need to float around the room or have protection between yourself and the floor. Level 3 PPE should suffice. A quick inspection with the UV on the walls was a mistake by me, revealing crime scenes of varying severity. I did not linger on this. Otherwise, great location and friendly staff. It would have been five stars if not for the carpet and false-advertising about the mini bar.

My husband and I stayed just 1 night here. It was a lovely place, very clean and the staff were lovely. However I wouldn't return unless I could choose what room not to have. We were in room 221, right on Enmore Rd, it was really loud with the traffic and people and we unfortunately had to have our windows open which made that issue worse as our air conditioning did not work, the bed was rock hard as were the pillows so needless to say we did not sleep well, and our room was right where you stepped out of the elevator. Having said this the location of the hotel was amazing and walking distance to wherever you needed to be.

Good location, good price and comfortable for an over night trip or weekend. Beds were comfortable and clean There was a little wear and tear but that's to be expected ๐Ÿ˜€ We booked a room with two beds which we got. Lots of food close by, added bonus that the kitchen was well stocked so we could happily chill out and eat in the room. Staff were very helpful with parking.

The room was well equipped, clean and spacious. Unfortunately it did smell of paint and was next to the noisy lift and road. I would recommend bringing earplugs. In the morning, before 9am, there were workers doing work right outside the door which was a little off putting. 5 stars for location to Enmore theatre and local cafes and restaurants though.

Very helpful friendly staff, rooms were lovely and well presented with everything we needed. Love the funky vibe. Wish it had more parking but the location is wonderful. I stayed in both a regular double suite that was perfectly fine, nothing fancy, and the two bedroom suite on the top floor that seriously had the most spectacular views of Sydney and was really very comfortable. I wish there were slightly more safety features.

This was such a great place to stay! So local to everything, central to stations, places to eat. The room we booked was for us and my pooch, the room was so tidy, clean and the lovely biscuits waiting for my doggy when we arrived. It is very dog friendly and has a cool modern vibe to the place. Highly recommended for any owners that wish to stay at a dog friendly place !

Can't understand its positive reviews at all. For over $300 weekend rate the room was like a cupboard on a construction site - complete with exposed pipes and wiring - all justified by the name 'urban' no doubt. Extremely noisy, with no proper insulation from the relentlessly busy Enmore Road outside, and people using the lift echoing through the concrete building all night. Even Sydney rates can't explain this one.

Looks nothing like the photos. Damp, dark, smells of mildew. First room I was given had roaches, second room dust everywhere and hair clippings around sink. Not to mention the receptionist was completely unsympathetic and didnโ€™t offer an apology!! Decided to stay elsewhere. Over 2 weeks and still waiting for a refund.

The room was nothing like described. Completely different the pictures on the website. Iโ€™ve never seen a double bed jammed up against a WALL with no access to one side of the bed?! Constantly rolled over in bed into the wall. Seemed average on the cleanliness.

Room was tight at bed end but it had all the amenities to stay a few days. Modest amount of drinks are available as a bonus and staff are extremely friendly and helpful. A whole lot of new furniture arrived when we there. Remember this is boutique motel so it has its quirks but that can make it fun with the right attitude.

poor customer service. Was unable to make my two night booking due to my flight being cancelled one hour before take off. Hotel refused to refund or even issue credit for a future stay. Can understand not being able to refund the full thing, but was surprised they wouldn't offer even a credit for the second night. The best they could give was offering to "maybe" give me a complimentary second night if i booked for another stay in the future. but only if the booking was on a Monday or Tuesday.

The front desk customer service was lovely. The room was a little musty when we got here, even though the A/C was already turned on. Needed a little airing! There was a nail on the floor near my bed, not really, safe! We didnโ€™t even have a hairdryer available in our room, which was a bit of an inconvenience for night showers. On a positive note, the beds were super comfy, and most of the amenities including the dental kit were on point. The hotel could be paid off partially using the Stay NSW Vouchers and itโ€™s accessibility to Newtown and Enmore was really nice also! 11am check out is a plus!

I was quite disappointed with my stay at the Urban. Once we arrived the communication was lacking as I had asked for a double bed and the staff tried to palm me off 2 singles which I did not pay for. When we were told the room was ready the staff were still making beds and cleaning which held us up as we had plans. The shower was unkept, the grout was not clean and the exhaust fan had a thick layer of dust right under the shower. The bed was comfy and the room was tidy.

Good location but that's it. No free mini bar as advertised, empty cleansing bottles in the bathroom, smashed balcony door, no ice machine, no daily room change, dilapidated rooms. Definitely not 4 star, priced like it at $200 a night on the weekend.

We stayed at the Urban and the room was lovely, we were on the 3rd floor facing the side street so didnโ€™t have any issues with noise. The room was well-equipped with a coffee machine, a small kitchen and a large bathroom with a rain head shower which we loved, the bed was a pillow top and very comfy and the pillows were supportive and really good quality. The location of the hotel is amazing, everything is in walking distance and the train to the city is regular and easy to get to. We were able to check in early which we really appreciated and were offered a complimentary drink of wine or beer. The reception staff were lovely and really friendly, we will definitely return.

This hotel was in a good location. The queen studio room was clean but extremely small. There were no towels bathmat or hand towels provided at all. Had to look for our own..lucky we found a semi open linen cupboard outside our room. The high price paid was definitely not worth the stay overall. The complimentary wine and beer in the tiny foyer of the hotel was probably the only real perk to this hotel.

We loved our stay at The Urban! The hotel is industrial, quirky, clean and comfortable. The staff were helpful and friendly. We were greeted with a free drink of beer, cider or wine and also received a voucher for free drinks from the Young Henry. The room was clean, comfortable and well equipped with everything you need. The shower was excellent! The location is close by to the Enmore Theatre, cafes, restaurants and public transport. Loved our stay would definitely stay again!

Great value, great location. Welcome drink at Young Henryโ€™s, and afternoons downstairs a really nice touch. Rooms had great ammenities. Only issue was outside noise as it is in a busy area and close to airport. Not great for light sleepers but my partner slept through it all. Would stay there again.

Room 419 backs onto the elevator shaft. Every time the elevator is used there is extremely loud banging sound on the wall and roof next to your bed. Even with earplugs, you will not sleep past 5am. I spoke to reception who said that they are aware of the issue, but they allow customers to book that room anyways. DO NOT STAY IN ROOM 419

Had such a great stay with whole family. 8+ rooms booked. Rooms were tidy, clean, well appointed, staff were phenomenal. Would recommend to anyone looking for a quality stay in Newtown. Weโ€™ll be back.

Stayed here for wedding anniversary. Very basic facilities. No ice, staff was very unhelpful. Had friendlier welcomes in backpackers with better customer service. Funky vibe but definitely not 4 star.

Our room was very functional and in a great location near the train station and other cool shops. Our room smelt like chlorine, but i put it down to being very clean. Also very thankful for the aircon, we would have died without it. Would stay there again.

My partner and I stayed for 2 nights. The rooms are small but functional and the bed was great. It's extremely convenient to public transport, bars, restaurants and the Enmore Theatre. If you're driving book a spot at the hotel very early as they're tough to get. If you miss out park at the Secure Parking Station next to the train station. It was pretty cheap for 48 hours and I got my car back intact lol I shall return next time Newtown calls me!

Drink on arrival was very welcomed. Room was well appointed. Coffee machine was a bonus. Great location but my room was outside lift and positioned over street,,,,, very noisy. Will get a room towards back next time. And there will be a next time. Void with plants was awesome ๐Ÿ‘

Hotel was central to Newtown. Room was very clean. Amenities were ok. Main bed was very hard with no give in it. If you have any back issues I would not recommend this hotel for the hard beds. When I spoke about my experience the lady at the front desk said all the beds are hard and she has the same one at her house. I donโ€™t understand as I have never had a more uncomfortable hard bed before in a hotel.

At enmore theatre seeing bands 3 days in a row. It's so cool being able to walk 100m up the road to bed. One does like a beer or two, and being single is a bit of a worry travelling on a train or bus late at night after drinks. The garden in centre core was lovely. My card was deactivated against my other cards but easy to fix at midnight by staff. When I rang the number on their Web page, they were quick to wake up on site and come to my aid... soz about that :) .. excellent service . Surrounding shopping was a great vibe. Would definitely stay again. My only blah was I was woken by garbage truck and some upstairs noise, but they have ear plugs alongside shampoo conditioner, etc, and it is a noisy area, so to be expected. There is no food on site, but so many many many cafes around. I had Turkish honey cake, which was 9 layers of omg yum from King Street, best i have ever eaten.. awesome location, shopping, and food. Ooh, dumpling place across road is 5 stars too.

Pros: Convenient location Clean rooms Cool plant feature in the middle of the building Comfy bed and pillows Cons: Very exxy (could stay at the Hilton for the same price!) Cannot use service NSW Stay voucher unless you book directly with the hotel (the online booking service directly through their website doesnโ€™t load on my phone, so I went through Booking.com and couldnโ€™t use the voucher in the end). Weak heating Old TVs in bedrooms that only play daytime television Very strange room design (not particularly nice to look at, old curtains and lots of shades of grey) Iโ€™ve stayed here twice and had very different rooms each time. The 2nd time our room was much rougher. No mini-bar (as advertised) Very strange & suggestive picture above the bed (see attached image)

Really nice rooms which are surprisingly quiet being next to the main road in Newtown. Great location to cafes, live event spaces and public transport.

Wonderful location with very polite staff, with great amenities. However the share room with bunks was so tight we felt like Harry Potter had been evicted from under the stairs so we could spend the night ๐Ÿคฃ clearly built for kids and not built for thicker people. Everything else was on point! We also enjoyed the mulled wine ๐Ÿ™Œ thanks urban, we will return.

Service staff were lovely. The room was extremely disappointing though. Carpet had stains everywhere. Ben linens were discoloured. The room smelled a bit. Sadly it was one of the most uncomfortable beds I've ever slept on. The two single beds they had combined weren't secured so they kept falling apart while I was sleeping. All of the cutlery, glasses & plates were covered in old food scraps, so I had to wash it all when I arrived. Overall very disappointed in the room, not worth the price.

yes - cool place, just a small room but all we needed, balcony onto Enmore road, green leafy interior courtyard, comfy bed, awesome friendly customer service from Karin on the desk? (sorry I may not have your name correct buddy), ABC jazz and a complementary beer and cider waiting for us, parking facilities and perfect location for a night in Newtown, we will come back! x

I am very close to giving this my first 1-star review. There were so many issues with this place that I have to wonder if all the reviews below are genuine. There is no evening (or early morning) reception and each time something was needed I had to wait several minutes for an unkempt yawning young person to make their way down. I felt that most hadn't been adequately trained. The room was unusual, loud, not very ergonomic, and lacked many nice touches i might expect for the price, but to be fair most things worked. On the last day several important items in a bag in the room were (i hope accidentally) disposed of. The lack of concern and professionalism in how this was handled was surprising and very disappointing. It's hard to avoid the conclusion that management is sub-standard. The only redeeeming feature is the quality of restaurants within 3 minutes walk.

Nice, clean & convenient. Really comfortable bed & awesome big walk in wardrobe & shower. Nowhere to sit other than the bed though but they happily provided a couple of chairs for us.

  • 2/5 Warren L. 1 year ago on Google
Positives first. Great location if you are seeing a gig at the Enmore theater. However the rooms and bed are tiny. I'm tall but not huge (6'2) and my feet were off the bed when laying flat. The rooms are just designed to sleep in as they are too small to hang out in for any extended period of time. Bathrooms are also very small, only one person at a time. Rooms were musky and needed a good air out. Not that this matters but the outlook from the back of the building is dodgy as, what looks like a run down block of commission flats with broken windows. It served its purpose but wasn't a great hotel. Staff were friendly and they gave us a free beer on arrival.

  • 3/5 Grace M. 1 year ago on Google
In the lead up to our stay, communication was really poor. It was difficult to get someone to answer the phone, call back, or reply to an email. The room was okay, however they had set up an additional bed in our room (no idea why) which made it really cramped and with the room design, we both kept tripping over the step towards the window. Wouldn't recommend for anyone with mobility concerns. We kept being woken up through the early hours of the morning as other guests returned. Sound just echos from the corridors. Pros: comfy bed, convenient location, 11am checkout. Cons: can hear every guest/super noisy, poor room design, communication is lacking.

Great location, great staff great room. Had concert at the Enmore Theatre 3 minute walk down the road brilliant. Stacks of restaurants to choose from close by. Complimentary drink on arrival which was relaxing having been dashing about all day. Funky garden outside the rooms. Industrial chic decor. Will be back.

The location of the hotel is close to Newtown's King Street and just up from Enmore Theatre. The hotel is industrial minimalist with neat and tidy bedrooms, clean bathrooms and a small kitchenette with coffee machine, microwave, sink and bar fridge. The bed was comfy and we found the hotel to be quiet and comfortable.

Mixed feelings- king suite was super small but bed was spacious. PowerPoint only next to one of the beds. Similar to an airport hotel. They provide full size body wash, shampoo and conditioner which is nice but unfortunately both our body wash and conditioner were filled with water instead of product. When we asked them to replace them they accidentally replaced the full shampoo bottle with a body wash one instead and forgot the conditioner. Me and my friend both developed a mild rash on the sides of our face that we slept on- could be the detergent used on the pillow cases? However it could have been a coincidence or unrelated. The elevator is very clunky and was making noises all night, as we were next to it. The location is fantastic and it was super nice to only have a short walk back after a long day and night, and I believe this is why they are able to charge as so. I feel like $321 per night was a bit overkill for the budget style room and the service but I would probably stay again in the future due to location and lack of other options besides a hostel or pub hotel, albeit with my own body wash.

  • 4/5 David S. 1 year ago on Google
Not really what we were expecting for the price. Convenient to the Enmore Theatre, but more at the Ibis Budget end of the hotel scale. Tiny room, barely big enough for the bed, and a very slow, rickety elevator to get you there. All in all not bad, but not great.

  • 5/5 Chris T. 1 year ago on Google
We got a King room on the 1st floor. My expectations were not overly high but from the moment we arrived they were surpassed. Free drinks on arrival. The service from the check in desk was first class and we felt appreciated as guests. Room was very clean, the bed was amazing ( we have a queen ) and the hotel was very quiet. Definately be back

Stayed here about a week ago. Staff were really friendly. Complimentary wine on check-in if you like it. Close to train station, Enmore Theatre, restaurants. The hotel had a really cool industrial/grunge style, with an awesome urban jungle/rainforest in the centre (worth going up to the upper level and looking down on it too), interesting artworks. I liked the style, and the beds were comfy and the room was quiet and air-conditioned, couldn't really hear any noise, from our room at least. If I had any complaints it would be that the room was a bit small - had two king singles that were meant to be separated but were basically almost together, and no powerpoint for charging phone next to one of the beds. The bathroom was a bit small too, but the showerhead was pretty good. I can't really complain though, for the price and the location, and if I'm ever in Newtown again I'd be happy to stay again. :)

Recently stayed here for 4 days, 3 nights was very lovely, however, there is not enough bins inside the room. My friends and i had done a lot of shopping and had tons of bags and decided to get take out and was left with a substantial amount of rubbish with no where to put. Overall the stay was amazing. I just wish it had more bins.
