This gym needs a refresh ASAP. It looks and feels dilapidated. I would have expected better from Fitness First. Pros: - convenient location - friendly staff Cons: - run down - needs more squat racks - old equipment (benches, weights, majority of the machines) - missing a few machines I would like (lying leg curls machine + an updated back row machine)

+ Good location + Not many people after 7-30 pm + 24/7 - People and staff don’t put weights away after use - No A/C after 8-30 pm - Danger zones - glass shards on the floor, gap in the floor - No music on demand - People and staff are unlikely to smile and say hello

This is up there with possibly the worst gym in Australia Not only is everything regularly out of order, more recently for over 2 months they have closed the gym however still charge you money for the membership Would avoid NS FF at all costs and visit elsewhere

So it seems there are two FFs in North Sydney. One is closed on weekends, and the other closes at 13:30 on Sundays. Both are closed on holidays. Are you kidding me? How is FF not embarrassed/humiliated by this? Um if you want people to pay to use your gym, it'd be nice if it was open occasionally when everyone isn't at work so it could actually be used...

The staff at the reception trying to misrepresent the conditions of the contract (saying it is for a fixed term, not ongoing) just to make a sale is absolutely unacceptable! They have been charging me for weeks and then it is Impossible to get a refund, stay away from Fitness First gyms at all costs!!! They only care about their fees, not your wellness!!!

Walker St is a good gym with good equipment and friendly staff but it has been closed for nearly two months now. Communication with members has been sparse. Meanwhile, the other N Sydney gym at Elizabeth St remains closed at weekends! Why not open it!!!

Cancelled a membership. Still charging me. Impossible to contact. The gym is a safety hazard and nothing is being done about it. Worst gym in Sydney, only thing worse than this place is it's management.

I went here as a visitor once with my partner (who is a current member of Fitness First) and the below are mine and his review combined. I'm going to start with the good first then the bad. Pro: - staff are super friendly and always willing to help - banger music Cons: - old equipment to the extent that some of the weight numbers are not visible - broken lying leg curl machine for weeks - entire functional area being closed for maintenance without informing/communicating with the members - weights are never put back in the right area - 24 hour access went down for a week without informing/communicating with the members, my partner goes late after work and was not able to attend for a week The gym has great potential to be a great gym, however, it is very mediocre and for the price that is being paid for the membership it is not worth it. I would personally recommend going to the Fitness First in Elizabeth Street, however, it is not 24 hour access.

Conveniently located for people who work in North Sydney. The staff are friendly. They recently put in a new floor in the studio where most of the classes are held. I do find that during peak time its a little hard to get the weights/machine you want, also the fitness instructors seem to hog a lot of space when they're doing their sessions. Overall, think I think the memberships are a little expensive for what you get, unfortunately the options for gyms are limited in this area.

I've been trying to contact this gym to cancel for 4 months. Sent 4 emails, rang 9 times (left 4 messages). Spoke to another fitness first gym in person and on the phone which they couldn't help. I don't live near the gym so can't just walk up to it. At one point found it was closed for some reason and phone lines were blocked. Contacted my bank to try to stop payments but that takes a month. Would've thought that even though less staffed hours, they would return calls or respond to emails. I couldn't even figure out how to contact head office. I'm very sad as I've been a member for 5 years and had no issues till they removed/cut staff and customer service. grrr

I walked into my first consultation, and 5 minutes later I was pressured into signing a one year commitment without my questions fully answered. Another lady at the front desk started pressuring me alongside the sales I had an appointment in an ill mannered way, "aren't we signing this already??!" I was totally put off by this as I have never been to a gym before. We are just another number on their commission, the gym doesn't actually give a sh*t about their members. this was just personal experience. I hope it never happens to anyone again.

I am not happy with their service anymore! after covid restrictions they cut off the opening hours which made is more busy on the pick hours and people are doing workout very close to each other. they also close too early which is not convenient for people work upto 5,00 pm. and we are still paying the same!

Seems like I am not alone in being scammed by this mob. Tried cancelling membership but it took them 2 months to do it and now being chased by the debt collectors. No response from the 1300 number. Spent over $5k here over the years and they chase me down for $100 because they can't pick up the phone...

I closed out my account months ago with Simon Tinkler and now months late being chased by collections for an overdue bill. Very unimpressed, no other comms from fitness first to let me know this was happening just an arrogant and distressing collections email. Edit: In response to the owner reply, i have already sent you 2 emails and have provided a full email chain of the evidence i have of closure and my final payment. I do not expect to waste more time on this on a phone call.

Fitness first quality has been declining for a while but this branch takes the cake. All the machines are in dire need of repair and maintenance but nobody cares. Its also missing a lot of machines

One star review due to begin sick and tired of asking why the Aircon switches off in the main weight area level at around 6:30pm every night. I just keep getting a bulls—t response that it’s getting looked at. Also half of the lockers in the men’s locker room are always taken 24hrs a day. This gym could be fantastic if it had staff that cared and did their jobs. But on a positive note the people that workout there are very friendly and mainly put their weights back.

Sunday group fitness classes with Julia are a must. If you’re looking for a high energy, challenging and fun start to your Sunday - led by an amazing experienced instructor - this is the place to be!

Fitness First Walker Street would have to be one of the most cohesively well managed gyms that I've ever had a membership with. Everything is seamless and easy right through from joining and induction through to using the gym myself and also being introduced to my Personal Trainer (Dan Bradley who is amazing! ) who they personally selected for me when I joined, based on my needs and compatibility and I couldn't be happier with the results that I'm getting from the training and great advice that he's given me!

Terrible experience, broken aircon for days in the middle of summer with no windows or access to outside air. Not a good gym, lack of maintenance and common sense!

The staff are friendly and knowledgeable, and the equipment is well-maintained. The class schedule is also quite diverse and offers a good variety of options. One great feature of this gym is that it's open 24/7 which makes it very convenient for my schedule. However, the changing rooms could be a bit cleaner. Also, the gym gets quite crowded during peak hours, so it would be great if they could add more equipment to handle the demand.

There is no towel and shampoo and cream. I’m just comparing it with my other experiences with other fitness first gyms in south east Asia and Europe. The air conditioning is also sometimes off in the weights floor.

It is nice quiet gym when I go around 2pm and I can do my workout without having to wait for the equipment to become available. Also the classes are not overcrowded in the middle of the day.

Nice gym but the staff do not pay attention to the tools: every time you need to looking for what do you need around the gym

Everything fine except for the Aircon. Easily getting close to 30°C in here. Pretty unbearable

It is quite clear that whoever manages this gym just does not care about it. Gym equipment is in disrepair and has remained broken for months. I went here two years ago and thought it would have improved since then, nothing has changed. There is literally less equipment than when I last went here.

Your ideal 24/7 Fitness First. Everything is decent, though a minute setback is that the sanitiser dispensers are mostly always empty.

I have tried to use this gym twice this week on my fitness passport and both times, during staffed hours, there was no staff anywhere to be seen.

Place is worn out. Some of the equipment is broken, showers could do with better cleaning. Only advantage of this place is the price and the fact that its 24/7.

Heather Crowe is the worst yoga teacher I have seen. We had a system of getting numbers from reception for yoga classes as they were getting overcrowded. I happened to come in much earlier than the class to work out beforehand and the receptionist accidentally handed me the token for the previous class. When I dropped my token into the bucket, Heather pointed out in front of the whole class that my number was different in colour to the other numbers. When I calmly explained to her that the receptionist must have accidentally given me the wrong token since I was early, she gave me a weird look and said "I find that very hard to believe." I honestly don't know how someone with that energy is a yoga teacher. Hopefully they have someone a bit more positive and understanding taking the classes now.

Great place to workout! Like all fitness first they have great equipment but I take part in the classes most of the time. They have a variety of classes (both morning, lunch & night) which I take advantage of. The instructors are friendly, prepared and know what they are doing!

Too small .. just like any dodgy anime fitness , this is the worst centre I’ve been , it needs a serious update inside out

They turn the ventilation off during unstaffed hours, making it unusable in summer.

A good gym with friendly staff and a community feel. It is smaller but there is alot packed into the available space - there are a couple of parts that could use and upgrade (such as the group fitness room floor). The group fitness classes are fantastic with a great group atmosphere (but not too overcrowded) - would highly recommend trying Helen or Julia's classes, both are probably the best instructors I've encountered in my 10 plus years doing group fitness.

The amount of cardio machines out of service is just ridiculous. I’ve been asking for 6 months about them being fixed and I just returned after a break and now there’s even more machines out of order. The fact I can’t even do my normal work out (due to foot problems) because there are NO sit down bikes available at all is really bad. My friend cancelled her membership last week because of this very issue and I would too if I wasn’t on contract.

Never thought I’d say this. But I love Fitness First. The gyms are everywhere. So there’s always one nearby. The equipment varies but it’s quite good.

  • 3/5 Yel281 7 years ago on Google
I won't say that the gym is bad. It's ok. But the machines are so old , it's also close too early every day!

Air con can be a bit unreliable / turned off by the trainers at times making it a hot sticky environment. New equipment is fantastic and group fitness area has been expanded.
