The south side of the Bridge, wonderful, beautiful and picturesque part of Sydney, to walk around from The Piers on the west side, under the bridge to the east side, to Dawes point. With a great vantage point of the Opera House and the Harbour, and a great perspective of the pylons and the frame of the bridge, just amazing. Thus Reserve is great, and the place to be on a nice day enjoying the view.

Also known as Dawes Point Reserve... Once again... I stumbled upon it purely by accident, wasn't looking for it or knew it was here. I was just taking a stroll around the Rocks with the folks. I was wondering why it was so clean and immaculate. I didn't realize it was an official State Heritages Site. The views here are just spectacular. You get to view the south side of the Darling Harbour Bridge. The views of the Opera House across the water are just Stunning! It's bit of the walk, since you are after all at the tip of the Harbour and there is not much around you. Once you get to the park you are past all the restaurants, bars, hotels etc... Oh what a wonderful stroll it was...and well worth it! But don't take my word, check it out yourself...

In the centre of the roundabout at Dawes Point is a wreck of a car with a boulder on top of it. It looks very funny.

I walked around here yesterday lovely place and lovely views of the Harbour bridge and the harbour. HISTORY Originally known as Tarra perinsula by the aboriginal people and was renamed Dawes Point in 1788. Lieutenant William Dawes established an observatory on this point. The observatory fell into disuse in 1791. Lieutenant Dawes erected a breastwork in 1788 and replaced by a stone battery in 1791 known as Dawes Battery. The whole remodelled and enlarged by Governor Denison 1856. Upper gun battery was overseen and designed by Francis Greenway. The construction of the upper gun battery in 1819. In 1850's the upper gun battery was enhanced with 5 42 pounder cannon was installed. Circular tracks were carved into the bedrock which meant each cannon was able to swivel through a 180 degree angle. The cannon never fired an angry shot it was removed in 1945 after the Harbour bridge was finished. The lower battery was part of the improvement of Dawes Point Battery in 1850. The lower gun battery comprised 15 32 pounder guns it was demolished in the 1890's.

This park is located under the Harbour Bridge and provides views down the harbour, over to the Opera House and west. It contains the Dawes Point Battery, a historic gun emplacement, and has a variety of seats and grassy spaces to sit on. About 10 minutes walk from Circular Quay.

A fantastic view and a great vantage point on Australia Day. Also a good spot for people fascinated with the under-side view of a bridge. Popular at times for wedding photographs. Watch ferries from here.
