The gym was great..new renovation and layout dosnt work at all. Too many members hard to use equipment even during weekdays. You need to set a timer to book classes even then they book out as soon as they open

EDIT - I spoke with Quintin the manager after leaving my initial review and he was very open to receiving feedback on how the gym could be be more accommodating to new parents who rely on the creche so they can work out and also make popular classes easier to book. I appreciated the time he took to listen to my concerns and it shows that the business has their heart in the right place and are keen to be accessible to all members of the community. ***** I haven't been a member all that long, but my feeling is that this gym has too many members and has reached capacity (at least, when it comes to classes at the Wellness Center - although the cycling classes are also crammed wall to wall and you can barely walk by the bikes without bumping into something). As others have pointed out, it's extremely difficult to book a class and spaces fill up within 15-30 minutes. When I signed up, I envisaged myself taking 2-3 classes a week but I can only book myself into 1 and that's IF I'm lucky. It's not great value, when you crunch those numbers. I took the FP version of Body Pump and also found it to be a pretty poor imitation. For one thing, there was no space in the class so several people had no access to mats and equipment. Also, the music was so loud you couldn't hear the instructors voice and the lighting was so dark you couldn't see what you were doing. The instructor also wasn't demonstrating the moves, so you couldn't hear what to do, or see what to do, or see yourself (or move without bumping into your neighbour). Now, doing weights is all about technique and I have to say I find it risky that you have lots of newbies in a cramped room together lifting weights without being able to see what they're doing or correct their technique. I used to go to Fitness First and their weights classes are 100x better. I also think it's really mean that they charge you for cancelling 'late'. Surely, a gym THIS packed with THAT many people desperate to get into classes aren't losing money if someone forfeits their booking? I am a single parent looking after a 6 month old baby, and sometimes there's just no way to predict whether my baby will be napping, cranky, sick etc so I have no choice but to cancel late. Life happens! And I don't have a person who can mind the baby when I'd like to go to the gym so I have to bring him to the creche. I understand you have to book due to class popularity, but also if classes are so popular and get filled so easily - why should people be charged?? This gym has all the mod cons and some great yoga and pilates instructors. It's also beautifully refubrished. But it's a victim of its own success.

I truly want to love and have tried to love one playground. I have been a member for over a year now and whilst I do enjoy the classes at the gym I can never book in to actually do one. I have emailed a few times about my concerns but they haven’t been taken seriously. The response has been “it will lessen now Surry hills and Newtown is open” but nothing has changed. Adding one extra class at 3pm doesn’t really cater to most people who work a 9-5 job. I have asked for a wait list system at least like most other gyms but again none of my concerns have really been answered. I have to set my alarm to 11.59 everyday to try and book a class when the booking window is open at 12 and even then I still can’t get in. It’s a bit ridiculous. The gym should take into consideration how many members are there paying to attend classes and cater to those needs instead of letting an influx of members join without having those needs met. Paying the class membership to only attend 1-2 classes a week is not why I joined. I want to exercise and attend classes regularly but it becomes a chore when it’s a battlefield to even book one.

40%+ of the cardio equipment is broken at all times, no air con and its become impossible to park. The hipster vibe and cool neo lights doesn't make up for the complete disregard to get broken equipment fixed, some cardio machines have literally been broken for months now. It's a bit cheaper than a Fitness First if you don't want to go to all the classes but it's pretty hard to get a decent workout in at peak times with so much broken equipment. I've recently cancelled my membership for these reasons.

I would not recommend this gym. I attempted to attend with a friend who was a member and to get a pass. I approached the desk and was met with a extremely hostile female member of staff. She had a go at me for walking to the desk. I explained i was trying to get a pass she dismissively told me to go and sit at the side. I stood at the side and she instructed me to sit down twice like i was a small child at school. I have never experienced such rudeness from a business seeking new membership and will never ever go to this gym ever again and are also going to encourage my friends to cancel and never go. There is no excuse for people to be rude. It is called customer service after all.

This gym seems to be a victim of its own success. I know coming out of Covid it’s been really hard to find trainers, but the booking system makes it impossible to get into classes, which are the main reason I joined. Everything is booked out at midnight within the 3 day window. The wait list function sometimes works, but when it does there’s little notice. They might benefit from penalties for members who constantly book and cancel classes leaving nothing for the rest of us. But at the end of the day they have too many members and not enough classes. I’m giving them 2 more weeks to resolve it and if nothing changes I’ll be sadly canceling my membership.

This is a pretty darn good gym. The equipment is pretty much great and the owners have clearly not taken shortcuts in spending on the right stuff. The way the products/memberships (including exit strategies) are designed makes it clear that the team have strong strategic product development experience, ensuring that products fit the varying circumstances of potential customers. I noticed this because it was incredibly easy for me to decide on what approach I would like to take with a membership, and the consequences/costs of that approach. Georgia was also very helpful in facilitating to me how contracts work here, and that made the whole decision making process a lot easier. I think her biggest strength is her ability to place herself in the customer's shoes after swiftly analyzing their circumstances. I think the pricing structure is reasonable. Looking at the price charged in comparison to the equipment provided/convenient location/other gyms. No complaints there. The bathrooms though, need significant improvement. It is expected that some congestion will occur in the mornings. I will still give this gym 5/5 however, only because the team (via Georgia) was rather transparent in regards to this challenge. Here I am, still rambling in this review, as I procrastinate on training legs.

I absolutely love this place!! I'm very much a class person and the set-up they have at Fitness Playground fully supports having multiple classes with amazing instructors why guide you through the workout amazingly. I've tried new classes I've never done before and love that there is always a class on at the time I'm looking to go to gym. At my previous gym there were not enough before and after work options but now I can always fit in a workout around my work schedule! But it doesn't stop with the classes, the gym itself is also fully stocked with whatever you need, it's always clean, people have been lovely and I look forward to going in each morning. Would fully recommend FP to anyone looking to improve their workout routine! P.S. If you're looking for a PT there are the most amazing ones here as well!!

Don’t bother joining the gym if you’re after the play membership that allows you to have unlimited classes. There are literally no classes available so you’re wasting your money. Edit: They’ve significantly improved their services with new rules and many more classes. Very impressed with their quick to action

Joined this gym for the kinds of equipment and space they had. Then came the renovation. I made internal complaints, and they acknowledged they got a lot of complaints about it, but nothing was done. Monumental f up from the then Fitness Playground now “One Playground”. “Playground” is an appealing word to use in a business name because it makes the gym look like it’s more than just treadmills and weights. It’s not. It was, but now it’s not. The gym is packed, members have no consideration for equipment and leave it lying around anywhere and everywhere. Trainers and members have no consideration for space (lost space since the renovation) and sometimes set up cones around them to hog more space. This morning there were no gym mats available even though it seems like there were only 4 or 5 in use. Being a member of this gym has just reinforced my disdain for gyms as a business. I joined this because it seemed different, and it was until the renovation. But it’ll make no difference to this business because they’ll just keep pumping through signing up members $$$

Joining Fitness Playground when they first opened in Marrickville was one of the best decisions I ever made. Quality PT's and instructors which really offer great classes and all really know their stuff. The class timetable is incredible. Best of all is the management and staff really care about their clients, they are constantly upgrading and improving the space for members to create the best gym in Sydney. Management take a lot of pride in their gym and its easy to see that through the investments they make constantly to improve rather than worry only about the bottom line profit. If your looking to join a gym make sure you check out FP before signing up anywhere else.

Avoid if you could. I never managed to book a class as they are always booked out. You need to start booking one week ahead. The equipments are always occupied too and the space is very little. Everyone is on top of each other. When you cancel your membership, they will continue charging you for 4 weeks which absolutely doesn’t make any sense. When I told them I am canceling my membership (Month to month), they sent me an email to say “my cancellation is approved”, after a week. Apparently they need to “approve” if you decide not to be a customer. What a joke. Worst experience ever.

The gym does look nice and well equipped. Their recent renovation will surely dazzle your eyes together with that "unlimited classes" offer. But then you'll have to fight and wish for luck to be able to book for a class. Always full and unavailable. You'll end up paying for nothing.

The classes at Fitness Playground are amazing! They help me stay motivated, given the variety of classes and volume of sessions. The general vibe at the gym is excellent and again a great way to strive and challenge one's self. I also love that I can walk Millie to the gym, leave her secured at foyer and do my workout before collecting her to walk her back home - it's a 6km walk in total! It's all that, that enables me to incorporate more exercise into my day. Thankyou

I love it all. It's a cost-effective, high quality gym with an amazing array of classes to choose from. Being able to do three sessions of reformer without breaking the bank (like most other reformer studios in Sydney) is a godsend! At One Playground, you really can have it all. It even smells nice!

I really like this place, and this comes from a person who never liked any gyms. It's well looked after, the classes are great and very diverse, and there are just so many aspects of One Playground that set it apart from other gyms. The feel, look, vibe, cleanliness, etc. Booking into classes is easy too.

Great gym and lovely people but feels over subcribed and air con if not turned on is not powerful enough for how packed they are, ive heard people comment the same thing and seen people dripping sweat, red faced even, it feels about 32 degrees inside.

I was sceptical when I originally saw advertising material for Fitness Playground. I remember my partner showing me pictures and thinking "Well that's going to probably be as much as Virgin Active if not more" (~$45 for a Virgin Active membership when I was looking into them). To my surprise we stopped past one day for a gym tour and I found out that it's $20 a week for the gym. I looked down at the price then out at the gym floor and thought to myself, "How the hell is this quality being priced at $20 a week". 4 months I have now been training at Fitness Playground Marrickville, three of those with one of their PTs Luciano who's been amazing. I wouldn't take back my decision to switch, and actually wish I did it sooner.

Fantastic classes and instructors and a decent timetable to fit most peoples schedules. The gym equipment is high end and the new wellness area downstairs looks great. However... The male toilets are absolutely feral. There is no urinal, broken soap dispensers, and commonly I have seen the toilets blocked and overflowing with human waste. Spend some money FP and sort this out!

Since joining Fitness Playground last year, I've made some major progress in my health goals. I've managed to lose 9kgs while putting on muscle and increasing my strength. Being 40 and running my own business, it's essential that I don't get injured while pushing myself to achieve my fitness aims. My initial PT sessions helped me to mitigate any risk by really examining and adjusting my technique, especially when lifting heavier weights. Having access to a creche has also allowed my wife and I to have more opportunities within our busy schedule to get into the gym. If you're looking for a cutting-edge and inspiring place to work towards your health and wellness ambitions, I couldn't recommend Fitness Playground enough.

So impressed with this gym. Great vibes, top notch facilities! I think its really good value. I walked in today and got outstanding service from Amanda and Lyndsay. They were so attentive and friendly. Lyndsay showed me around the whole gym/wellness centre. I never felt pressured throughout our interaction and thanks to her amazing consultation I am now a Play member and can’t wait to start training with my coach!

Lyndsay, one of the Administrative members of the team at Fitness Playground, is an incredible associate that is knowledgeable, friendly, and capable of creating a fantastic experience. Be sure to ask for her if it’s your first time coming through, she will take her time to show you around and help you find what you are looking for on your fitness journey. I would definitely recommend this location to anyone that is looking for a fitness experience that includes modern architectural flavors, and equipment that is periodically maintained. The gym feels very uplifting and fun. Get your work out in and say hello to Lyndsay, SHES GOING to take care of you.

The gym has awesome machines and freeweights, but it is seriously oversubscribed. Between 05:30 and 08:30, expect to queue for every machine/station. This is made worse by PTs who all seem to train compound sets, so reserve a station and move between them. If you can train between 10:00-16:00, it’s a great gym, otherwise best avoided.

Good gym. Personally I preferred the 2.0 version and I know a lot of other regulars share similar views, especially with regards to the layout e.g. the old squat rack and free weight set up being arguably more training friendly and convenient. Couple of other smaller things could be optimised but overall it’s still a good gym with convenient opening hours in a great location.

It's a very low buget gym with below standard amenities. Changing area is a corridor, the showers are moldy with empty or smashed soap dispensers and cold running water at low pressure. The water might run hot after 10 min but if someone washes thier hands then your blasted with cold. Also, the door to the men's changing area is wedged open so people on the open gym area can see to whoever is exiting the showers, great for voyers. The door andis wedged because it's warped, probably damp. No privacy at all. The boxing area is open for any gym goer to blast the room with there own music and the personal trainers get special privilege for doing this when they are training (not actually teaching a class) The floors are generally not vacuumed and there are a lot of school kids who behave like kids running around at peak times, shirts off and dominaing areas of the gym. These issues are constant with the Surry Hills and Newtown location as well. It's cheap for a reason, if your ok with the above then it's it's not necessarily a bad gym. Just poorly managed as a building with absolutely no comfort or basic functional amenities.

A great range of machinery & classes. BUT I can't give it more than 3 stars as there is no management of misuse. Machines are constantly 'held' by people leaving their belongings on them while they're on other machines. You can do two sets next to machinery with a towel or bottle on it with no return of the other patron. Weights are all over the place with little respect & infrequent returning. I really hope management can get this under control.

Such an incredible bunch of people, who genuinely care about anyone that walks through the door. Not only is there interest in a client’s health and fitness, but I’ve felt a great sense of care for my wellbeing anytime I’ve interacted with staff, and in particular, Romy, Tom and Sienna who are assets to this gym. I have felt wholly supported from the moment I stepped in the doors the first time and coming here has become a really important part of my life. I never thought I’d say that about a gym but here we are. Can’t praise staff enough and the classes rule too

ABSOLUTELY amazing gym!!! I have no idea how they keep the wellness area so clean.there are so many classes to choose from and these guys have thought long and hard about the experience they wanted to create. Trainers and instructors are really accountable to make the class quality as there is online review forms available to rate their class. I am so impressed with one playground. For what they charge you cannot compare the value to anywhere else. Thank you guys, i hope you keep up the facilities and value.

I have been at Fitness Playground since it opened in Marrickville, and would not think to go anywhere else, even after moving out of the area. While I can only speak about the morning sessions, it is great to see so many like minded committed members training and enjoying the wide range of facilities and classes on offer. While it can get a little busy at times, most are there to get the job done, so equipment is freed up very quickly. Can't say the same for the smaller dumb bells that seem to vanish half the time. While there are a few sets of these, maybe another one or two won't hurt. Overall it has a great buzz, catering for all members, from experienced to newbies, and definitely not intimidating if you are no very confidents starting. They have managed COVID very well, and common sense goes a long way. Happy to recommend to all my friends without an issue. F

One Playground isn't just a gym; it's a way of life. They have more machines than I have muscles in my body and the staff are so friendly and approachable. One of the staff members (I think her name is Amelie) is ALWAYS there working hard and providing outstanding service. If you're looking for a fitness centre that offers variety, cleanliness and a welcoming environment, this is the gym for you.

This gym has changed my life . I have never trained consistently at a gym because I’ve never been to one that’s motivated me enough to train. I feel disabled when I enter other basic gyms . From the equipment to the staff to the overall vibe, it’s all perfect . I started off just wanting to lose weight and now it’s become my lifestyle. Jacqueline (PT) actually changed my life and I’m stronger and fitter now after having a child than I was as a teenager. I’ve never felt judged or Uncomfortable at this gym even at my heaviest . The owner is also extremely humble and sweet and you can tell he takes pride in what he does and deserves all the success that comes his way . Thank you for creating such an amazing space , I can’t stay away !

Definitely my favourite gym to go to, I had to cancel my membership only because I was moving out of the area and there are no other Fitness Playground gyms close to my new place (Meadowbank). The staff members are outstanding, always friendly and ready to help and the instructors/trainers are really knowledgeable. I mostly did classes and really loved them. I found them to be great for people like me who doesn't really want to think about what workout to do in the gym.Overall, I'd highly recommend Fitness Playground! I wish there was one close to me so I didn't have to cancel my gym membership!

I’m just a visitor to this gym. I bought a ten class pass to use for the boxing classes and because I have a membership at another gym. The boxing classes are energetic and fun. Fighting Fit gives you a good workout on the bag, whilst also working on your shadow boxing and fitness. Fight Club is the reason why I bought the ten class pass - In this class you learn boxing combos. You partner up with someone to work with on the focus pads - something I’m used to and that I miss at other gyms that offer this type of boxing class (NOT boxercise). The only con is if you have a partner who is not confident/strong enough in holding the focus pads. I tried Athletica Fit - Jose’s class on Thursdays is great. Jose will push you - he can see right through you and will challenge you to go harder (I had a lightweight on purpose - he saw it was too easy and made me go heavier 🙄😂). I also tried the gym floor and let’s just say I’m used to my gym which is ridiculously massive with HEAPS of floor space. At FP I felt like you were training on top of people, I felt very claustrophobic especially in the free weights area (again, I’m used to a massive gym where even during peak hours you don’t feel like you’re training on top of others). Again I only bought a class pass for the boxing. I’ve tried three classes which have all been great. Do not recommend the gym floor. Beautiful facilities though. And lastly the reception/office staff are great to deal with. Friendly and professional.

There is so much to do! It can be a little intimidating hanging around the "sacry" equipment but they have PT's for that which help you feel good using them. But bonus is there are heaps of amazing classes on anyway if the weights isn't your jam. The wellness space is so lovely and I like the contrast between the two area's. The facilities are great too, always clean and have everything you need. Every one I have delt with there from the instructors to the staff, are all super lovely and can help you with anything you need.

Machines aren't serviced enough, so quality is EXTREMELY low...@oneplayground the kickback machine gets stuck and has been like this forever. The machines are older and not great. The locker rooms are horrible There are pushy and rude trainers trying to push you off machines during a slight rest time.... honestly not enough space for the amount of people during peak. Since I joined One playground I have been motivated to be fit again. Few of the classes that one playground offers that help me a lot on my fitness goals are Reformer, Spin and Pump class. Reformer class definitely helps me to build a strong core and develop my muscles on my shoulders, torso and pelvis. Joining this gym is the best fitness decision I have ever made!

NEVER SIGN UP WITH THIS GYM !!! Absolutely unethical treatment. Like with many chain gyms, the moment you sign up - they will do anything to get your money. If you want to cancel your account, they will ignore your emails, charge you and make it as hard as possible for you to get out of your membership. Best gym in the Inner West, wide variety of classes with friendly & supportive trainers. Clean equipment, can get busy at times but never feels crowded.

Really enjoy coming to my yoga classes at One Playground in Marrickville! Excellent facilities and good spread of times for classes. Instructors have so far been great!

great facilities, instructors and super friendly staff. just needs a little more space as it’s a bit cramped during peak times but hopefully the new space downstairs will help with that.

Great facilities! Has all the necessary wipes and COVID safety measures in place. Making sure members are scanning in and scanning out. Most time I go to workout the occupancy is always around 25-35%

I love this gym! I’ve been a member for over 12 months, and as someone who was apprehensive with walking back into a gym, i find the staff and other gym goers so supportive. The crèche also makes it easy for any parent wanting to get a training session in impromptu. i am so very grateful to have a supportive trainer such as Olly V. Kudos team!!

Quite the sweaty place, I like the yoga sessions, where they do 5 sets of 10 reps of sleep

My previous fitness centre closed forever during Covid and I was heartbroken. I didn’t think I’d find something else I’d love so much but then I discovered FP. I love the trainers, the gym location and layout, and the huge variety of classes on offer. I quickly became addicted and I’m getting so fit and strong, plus I’m meeting some amazing new people. Best gym experience ever.

Great gym, great classes, great atmosphere. And has a creche for the kiddies! I love this place and love to recommend to anyone looking for a good quality gym in the Marrickville area.

Easily #1 top-notch gym in Sydney and will be the first to recommend to my friends and colleagues. FP should totally be available nation and world-wide! Staff are incredibly helpful and accommodating. It’s upsetting to leave because of life commitment but i’ll 110% return whenever i’m back in the state!

My first day back post COVID. I nearly cried, it's so good to be back! It will be a long journey back to the same level of fitness but I'm happy to get back to my old routine at Fitness playground. FP have done a great job improving and getting ready for the new normal. You guys are legends, I wish you all the best and hope all the old members return and new people give FP a go!!!

Good gym facilities. I was upset that they started randomly direct debiting my account after I cancelled membership due to Covid-19. In fairness, their sales team was decently quick to organise a refund.

  • 4/5 Scott S. 3 years ago on Google
Great gym with a good vibe, recently refurbished, large free weights area. While there is still some work to do, they are improving their approach to COVID procedures. - There is a lack of adherence/enforcement to rules about using towels or wiping down equipment before/after use - it’s a great shame some members don’t respect the importance of this and the personal trainers need to take on a dual role during this time - The current cleaning outside of peak hours probably isn’t sufficient while members are failing to properly wiping down equipment before/after use - More serious warnings need to be on all stations where people can sit/recline - “Do not sit here without a towel, do not walk away without disinfecting” etc. Tough to manage hygiene in a 24/7 gym - PTs and members need to step up their game and spend time disinfecting equipment because cleaners can’t be everywhere all the time. Regards, Scott

Fitness Playground have great facilities and a great team! It truly has a fun community feel in the Playground (unlike so many other gyms), and I feel happy, safe & motivated to work out whenever Im there. Can't wait for everything to open up and to see the new gym section too!

The wellness centre downstairs has the nicest receptionists. All of them no matter which day you come. Super nice when it comes to fixing your card , extending your pass’s expiry date because of Covid lockdown and fixing lockers etc. They are all very well trained with the systems so they know the ins and outs on how to fix something.

One of things I love about Fitness Playground is the variety of classes, trainers, & spaces. The new studio space is amazing & is the best I’ve seen in Sydney. Do a class, grab a cup of tea and chill. Caters for everyone. Your only challenge will be booking a class as some of the classes like reformer go very quickly & I hope they expand this timetable. Would not consider any other gym.

Fitness playground is first class! I’ve been a member for years and so proud and happy to see FP grow, albeit covid. FP offers unparalleled service, very friendly and professional staff, state of the art equipment and recently opened the luxe and impressive wellness playground. FP is not just a gym, it is an evolving healthy community. So be part of it!

A great environment and with great equipment. The staff are always friendly and are ready to help out when they can. It may be intimidating for a beginner entering this facility, as there is so much going on - but don’t worry! The staff are always around if you need advice and some encouragement. I highly recommend anyone keen to have a good workout and enjoy themselves while they do it!

THEY CHARGED ME TO CANCEL MY SUSPENDED GYM MEMBERSHIP AND THEY DO NOT RESPOND MY EMAILS!!!!! I suspended my plan due to the closure of the gym - Covid. With everything going back to normal I asked to cancel my SUSPENDED plan as I am moving from the area. They got money from my account informing me that I need to give them 30 days notice before canceling it hence why they where deducting money from my account, however, my membership was not active, I have never informed them that I was going back to the gym so I’m requesting to cancel a SUSPENDED plan, they have no rights to get money when I have never decided to go back to the gym. I have sent 3 emails and they are just not getting back to me at all, that’s not acceptable, I just wanna cancel my plan which was already suspend to begin with as I’m moving out from the area and I’m 9 months pregnant. I want my money back that they charged me for no reason leaving my bank account on negative as I did not have this planned. Fitness Playground, get back to my emails! Priscila Carvalho

I had a moment today where I forgot my Locker number and was stuck for a while though I called one of the Staff members, out of working hours and they were more than happy to help me over the phone even though he wasn't able to help me locate my stuff though the support was there. One thing he said to me was you sound surprisingly calm for this type of situation, and it made me think why am I so calm and happy having my life stuck in a metal tin box, and I realised that the Yoga class that I finished 1 hour or so before has made an impact to my reactions, literally no stress what so ever just calm and open minded. Absolutely felt amazing after the Yin Yoga class!! Definitely recommend it! And thank you to the Team Member that was kind enough to help me at 10pm!

😠 Be there very early or very late or it's like mother Ganges in heat wave. Majority of lanes are reserved for lessons and recreational swimmers must share 4-5 people per lane. Steam and sauna are great. Fix the congestion/overlay of swim classes!
