Utopia Records is the place to go to find the best heavy metal , rock & hard to find imports in Sydney . I have been supporting Utopia since the mid 1980’s when they started out at Martin Place and after a few changes of locations the current store at Kent Street is well placed & very well stocked with a huge variety of CD’s , LP’s, t-shirts , clothing accessories and too many other items to mention . Staff are super helpful and are true Metal heads from way back & know their stuff from Anthrax to Zoetrope and everything in between. Heavy Metal is the Law 🤘🔥🤘

We visited at 10:15 on on Monday, soon after they opened. There were 2 or 3 other people in the store, with 3 staff members on hand. I got onto them when I was having lunch in Sydney - we’re from Brisbane - and I saw some other metalheads wander by. After about the fifth one, a person had an album and a bag that said “Utopia Records”. I was intrigued… There social media presence was first rate, with Facebook and Instagram updated a few times a day. Their website contained all sorts of tasty treats, so I was hooked. From the very first moment, you know you’re in for something special. The entrance is grunge grand and you walk downstairs into what well could be Aladdin’s Cave of Awesomeness. The stock was logically laid out into sections and everything was presented in alphabetical order. It was clean and bright. The staff were super helpful and attentive, often running off to see if that they had what I asked for, with about a 95.41% success rate (a Ghost t-shirt in my size was pushing the friendship… 😄) I was astounded by the range of music, shirts, memorabilia and… vinyl ❤️ As a portent of things to come, they put on Ghost’s “Impera” as we walked in. We lasted pretty much the whole album as we wandered around, lost in the many intriguing wares on offer. I had heard good things about this store, but they exceeded my lofty expectations. They are well worth a visit, about an hour in store - but, bring money, because they will have many things that you won’t see elsewhere.

I love this place! I was having a bad day and it made me happy I got my 4th time buying Metal merch. My first time I was here. I wish I had more time to browse because my brother needed to also go to somewhere. I saw online what I wanted to get and bought in store instead. I wish I got my favourite band, Nargaroth merch but that’s okay. It’s worth the money getting the cool merch. I liked this Dark Funeral long sleeve. The red is so cool. I got Burzum merch, I posted it too in r/burzum you can see me there bahahahha

Have shopped here since i was 16 and is my favourite place. Staff are always friendly and helpful, a massive variety of merch at a fair price with quick postage. Just put 2 vinyls on layby, can't wait to get them!

Never heard of this shop before but I'm so glad I found it just over a month ago, if you want to find not only the best of metal but also hidden gems and hard to find bands this store has a huge variety. I bought a bunch of Rush albums and they came in a week later all intact and play beautifully. Will definitely be buying again.

Legendary metal store. Always great selection, knowledgeable staff and friendly atmosphere. Since my early teens Utopia has been a music store that can't be skipped any time I'm in the city. That is still true especially since record shops have mostly disappeared in Sydney, but Utopia has proven it can't be bettered anywhere else.

Been in there many times and always overspend ( Cant help myself )but have a smile from ear to ear. Ordered online for the first time and it came within 2 days. Easily my favourite shop anywhere in Sydney 🤘🏽

It's literally heavy metal heaven (or hell) depending how you look at it. But the staff there are always nice and awesome. They got band Merch from artists that are banned and CDs that are unreleased imported from other countries. It's literally paradise and I'm proud to call it my second home

Going to Utopia was my first time going to a store targeted towards metal and i absolutely loved it. The staff working were so kind and welcoming and the shop had an overall great vibe to it!! Will absolutely be going back :)

I have been visiting Utopia for over 20 years. When I lived in rural NSW as a youngster, my brother and I would always visit Utopia when we visited Sydney and stock up on rock and metal CD's. Now, 20 years later, everytime I go into the city, visiting Utopia is a must. Every time I visit, I have a great experience. The staff here love what they do, have extensive knowledge and love talking about their passion for music and bands. The customer service is top knotch. Just the other day, after chatting with one of the staff about the recent Avatar concert and buying some vinyls, they threw 2 small Avatar promotional posters my way. They didn't have to, but it's always awesome to be given a little token of appreciation.

One of my favourite places to visit while in the city !! Great selection of metal music and merch, and the place that inspired my love for metal many years ago. The staff are always super friendly and welcoming and prices are great, especially for CDs that are impossible to find elsewhere. Love the atmosphere and love this shop so much, this place is so dear to my heart :o)

This is a review for the online store as I don't live in Sydney but hope to visit the physical one day! Just received my first order and will definitely be buying again, fast shipping, fair shipping costs, Amazing amount of stock to choose from, have never seen so much variety in my life. If your a mad rock fan there is no way you can visit Sydney and not go to Utopia records the vibe is great and have cool , quality merchandise cd’s records and more. The staff is great, helpful and the best. Oscar 10

If you're a metal kid, or a metal kid at heart, you've got to get down here and hang out. They were playing Slayer when I visited, there's a mind blowing range of merch, collectables and memorabilia not to mention... actual physical music on sale ! What a blast from the past! Cool shop. Seems to have a friendly vibe too.

Have bought a fair bit from here over the years and always happy. Recently had a faulty vinyl (label on the tracks) and these guys had it sorted so easily. Just great to deal with and truly into what they're selling 🤘

This place is a dream! Wondered in on my lunch break and was upset I couldn’t spend more time there. Their range of vinyls was amazing!!!! They had everything I wanted even ones I hadn’t seen available in Aus since I started collecting. The service is next level too. Got a KGLW album and there was glue from the packaging on the vinyl. When I went back Ray was an absolute legend and said there was another one arriving at the end of the week and it was mine with no extra cost or anything!! As well as the vinyls, the merch and the vinyl digging guide are fabulous inclusions! Do yourself a favour and get down there for the best selection of vinyls in sydney !

Great place to get some great stuff. Yeah it’s not quite what it used to be when it was back in the day in George street. But no one was streaming or downloading music then either. The smaller store and collection is a sign of the times not a sign of there passion or dedication. Keep up the good work 🤘🏻

Looking for several albums for months. Didn't realize utopia was still open. Ordered all the albums I required online and received them in 3 days. Very efficient and wide range of albums. Will always try utopia first from now

We were recommended this shop and it didn’t disappoint. A great selection of new LP’s and used. Covers lots of genre’s (heavy metal etc). We found some gems here in the used vinyl area. Good selection and a few rare ones in there. We visited 3 times over the weekend and this shop is worth it.

Awesome place for metal fans but there is also a small corner for easy listening music near the stairway. Staff is helpful and polite.

11 Years Old, about to turn 12. I went to this store with my Dad, we are both in to rock and metal music! I bought some records and so did he! Some great shirts as well. I was in Sydney for an Easter visit and we took a visit to the store and it was brilliant! The staff are just as passionate about music as I am so it was fun to chat with them whilst purchasing the records. Then back in Victoria, I played the records and they sounded great! The man running the counter after the purchase shook my hand, gave me a shirt and said, “Welcome To The Club” Looking forward to visiting next time I’m in Sydney!

Just ‘the’ place to go to get everything you need in metal. They have very friendly staff and they are very helpful. They have metal Pops, t-shirts, jumpers, LPs, CDs, toys…. I could go on forever. Just visit this place now and stay awhile.

The best place in Australia to get your hard rock/metal fix. Awesome range to choose from and the customer service is always incredible. My orders always arrive fast and in brilliant condition. Rock will never die.

Utopia has always been the best music shop in Sydney (at least), especially if you're into heavy music. The wife and I found exactly what we were after (plus plenty more 😀). Can't wait to go back again!

Unbelievable selection of vinyl, clothes and merch. Great bunch of people, and an essential visit if you even have a passing interest in rock n roll.

If I could give these guys more stars I would. I ordered two CDs for express and for better value and price then what Sanity and Jbhifi do. Buy from Utopia no one else guys you'll be stupid if you do 🤘🤘

Ordered a Stooges T shirt online. . Delivery was super quick however the quality of the T shirt is pathetic. Paid $49 for it and I reckon it must been like $2 to make!! Paper thin material and I reckon 100% it will develop holes in it by the time I wash it.
