Dreadful experience at the Endoscopy unit; no regards for people time or health. No queue management in place, all patients are checked in at 8am and kept fasting for hours; while my mother had started feeling dizzy for not having any food for over 20 hrs, the nurse was taking patients in for procedure in the wrong order, the reception staff were made aware of my mum's condition however they were too busy joking and laughing. You get better service in a 3rd world country. Do not recommend this hospital to anyone

Took my sibling to the emergency as she cut her head but they didn’t take it very serious and took long to even look at it. This is not okay as i feel it should be accessed quickly first and then treated according to the seriousness. Also, even after that the actually treatment had to be waited for 4/5 hours as they said just 2 doctors were available and it’s busy. This is so wrong as they could have just told that before. This was the same for other patients as well. It’s not the staff I complaint about but the service the of the hospital. The staff gave their best but they could have accessed it earlier if the system was quick. I feel they should look after this situation and access the emergency ward as there might be some very serious incidents and hospitals are the first and last thing people can trust and go after.

This review is for the Royal North Shore Maternity Unit - possible for people who are debating to go Private Vs Public. This is the public hospital review Lets start with the room - if you are lucky then you will end up with a single room or else you share it with someone else. The single rooms are great and have an expandable sofa which the partner can easily sleep on - they actually provide bedding as well. However if you end up with a shared room, they are separated by curtains and have a shared bathroom toilet/bathroom. so if you 100 percent want a single room then go private. On the bad side however even though the Midwifes are great they are really short staffed, someone turns up normally after 15 min if you are lucky or else it can be 20 min easy. So that can sway your decision. Nappies, clothing, essentials for a new mother are all provided. There is bathing room for the newborns and everyday you have physio, bathing classes free On the plus side again, all the specialist keep coming one after the other if you need them. We had surgeons, OB, Paediatrician, physio, lactation consultant all within hours of each other and yes they are all free. Meals are provided and so are tea and coffee. There is a cafe right downstairs that is open weekdays from 7 to 6. The meal quality is descent and healthy.

Being a patient is just a number for this hospital. My partner was in the waiting room bleeding from a miscarriage, a significant loss in our lives. I called earlier RNSH as per the doctor's recommendation when my partner started to bleed. We arrived at the EMERGENCY at 9 PM and were attended to by Ally, who was nice and polite. The problem began after waiting for over 1.5 hours, during which my partner had to go to the toilet twice to change blood soaked pads, and my 14-month-old baby woke up due to loud noises from the TV and hospital announcements. I went to inquire at the reception about the delay and received an answer that basically, my partner’s miscarriage was not a priority. We observed people who had arrived in 30 minutes being served because of injuries. But a MOTHER WHO IS LOSING HER BABY, EMOTIONALLY WEAK, and EXHAUSTED after undergoing invasive ultra sound examinations all day is not a priority. Absolutely disgusted at this hospital.

This Hospital is an older place and some of the nurses really need a course in compassion. People go to hospital because they need caring for but a lot of people there have forgotten the basic rules in this area. I would not go back there unless I absolutely had to 👎

I went in to the emergency department at 7am with chest pains for the last couple months - just early that morning it was quite painful. I did all the required tests by 10am. I just had a look at my discharge report after being discharged at 5.30pm. The report was created at 11.18am. Signed off at 3.41.. why it took 4 and a half hours to get signed off.. NO CLUE. why it then took another 2 hours for me to be discharged? No clue. I was there asking every hour for the status.. all I kept on getting told is to wait. I WAITED MORE THAN 10 HOURS. ABSOLUTELY RIDICULOUS! Another incident with this hospital. A few months prior i went in with pain in my abdominal area.. I thought I had fractured a rib, that's what it felt like.. they did the standard tests.. I stayed there for 4 hours and they told me nothing was wrong with me.. ONE MONTH LATER I get a letter in the post from them informing me that they actually found a fracture in my rib! No call to myself or my emergency contact when it was discovered. Just a letter in the post! APPALLING DOCTORS GET PAID 2-400 PER HOUR!? HOWWWWWW!!!!

Avoid the emergency department if you can. I waited 3 hours in emergency while in intense pain, vomiting everywhere. I don’t remember most of it but my partner who was with me said no one was doing anything to help him care for me in that time. Once I was finally seen to they gave me painkillers immediately (that’s how bad I was). I will say, the nursing staff in emergency were lovely. I opted to use my private health coverage here as I know it helps out public hospitals. I was admitted and was supposed to be taken to the ward and given a bed to stay. Once they took me up I didn’t even get a proper room, it was a small room they used for storage that could just fit a bed in it, there was no bathroom. I was on painkillers and under the impression I would be staying that night because of their findings. I was then woken up around 2PM and told if I felt okay, could eat and keep food down I was to be discharged. I told them my partner wasn’t able to pick me up until later in the day, and checked if that was okay, I was first told yes. So I nodded back off to sleep just to be woken up and told they had organised for someone to take me home, which is a nice service however I hadn’t even been out of bed and walking around. I was still on painkillers and felt okay because of that. Long story short, they sent me home without any medication (felt like they kicked me out just for the bed, that wasn’t even in a room) with an infection they somehow didn’t realise I had. Once I got home and the painkillers had worn off into the night, I could barely move. I saw my GP that following afternoon and she told me I had to go straight to emergency because I had an infection, and if they couldn’t get the inflammation from that down, I would need emergency surgery. Safe to say, she was appalled and advised I attended a different hospitals emergency.

Wow. Bad (emergency department ) Bureaucracy over patient care. Waiting 5 hours allowed me to observe. Doctors were generally great but the processing part at the front is horrendous. No care or empathy whatsoever. Robots would have more feeling. Understand they must see a lot but they are the face of the hospital. Surely they can be better or at least seem to try? Surly staff. Blind obedience to procedure over thinking. Waiting hours and not even shown where the toilets are. Also asked irrelevant unprofessional personal questions. Update 27.2.19 Rated 1 star but that's unfair to the great people here. Weird. Some amazing 5-star staff and some terrible staff. But overall a 1-star system. Eg. Woke up from surgery after general anaesthetic. No one explained how the surgery went or why i had a cast up to my elbow for a cut on my hand. Then discharged (without discharge certificate.) Told to return for follow up. Rushed (with a cast) to make my 8am appointment...and was kept waiting three hours. No offer of pain relief or even can we make your wait more comfortable. Some staff lovely but a rude nurse was horrible. Sadly that is what I will most likely remember. Update 27.5.19 I have a brain injury so pathology labs and radiologists of course refuse to do my standard tests until I have a Covid test at two places which are impossible to get to for me. So, my GP tells me to go to RNS ED and even sends a letter explaining my condition etc - which RNS ED refused to read at triage. They then panic that I want a covid test, quarantine me, and make ONLY ME as a patient wear a mask despite me barely being out of my room and seeing anyone in months (yes, covid and before has been that bad for me.) Plus I didn't have the symptoms and stood far away from everyone anyway. 5 hours later, I got a basic blood test and a brain scan (the wrong one for my condition) completed and had to go as I had not eaten, drank, or even been able to go to the toilet. No care.

I have nothing but great things to say about this hospital! Coming from overseas, I was very impressed how they took care of everything from check-in to the Emergency to seeing the doctor. All the nurses and Dr. William were so kind and all of them were absolutely top professionals. The doctor listened to me carefully and tried to help me the best possible way. Thank you so much once again and keep up the fantastic work you're doing! 🙏🏼💛

Some of the nurses were incredibly nasty and rude. They gossiped about me when I was still in the same room as them, made fun of my appearance and laughed maniacally as they read my medical history aloud. And then one of them told me to "never call the ambulance again" when I didn't. I told her a million times that a registered nurse called them on my behalf. They're just a bunch of high school mean girls :)))

I was there in RNSH (Emergency department) yesterday with chest pain having heart attack symptoms, my GP took ECG and asked me to go to hospital immediately, as soon as they know I don't have private health insurance they just kicked me out. I am at home taking my own medicines and still in pain. Worst hospital they discriminate according to how wealthy you are and what is the color of your skin, and they don't hide it either it is on your face, being educated people and having taking tax payers money as wages I did not expect this from such a big hospital. The doctor completely blocked her ears when I was describing my discomfort and suffering, very keen on kicking me out of the hospital ASAP, all she was saying is go back to GP. Doctor don't understand I was there in the first place because GP asked me to go there. I had to walk slowly back to train station and took train home. As I write the review I am still having chest pain and tightness, if I die my children will become fatherless, my children do not have mother they will become orphan. If I die, it is entirely the fault of the RNHS Hospitals must save lives not take them it is not butchery....but it felt like one Ravi Kumar

I have never encounters such rude staff across multiple departments. Yes staff may work long hours and deal with a lot of different types of people in the public, but as a health worker, some empathy, understanding and genuine care would not go astray. It would seem that money speaks, so if you have money you are treated with more respect and get better perks. Think twice before attending this hospital as you may be meet with rude tones and attitude from staff.

I give one star is because I could not give -100. There are so many incompetent doctors and nurses in this hospital. Maybe it’s not just this hospital maybe it’s the public health system is broken. Put this way: I feel so sorry for all the old people living in this country. When ppl get old they need care, but age care or hospital are so incompetent. They are so tight on budget, they don’t do enough checks and don’t give enough medication. They only can handle simple cases but if you are old with a little more complicated case they will give up you. I definitely won’t stay in this country when I am getting old. The public health system in this country has no future.

Stay away from the neurosurgery team. They ignored us every time we went into ED after the surgery with symptoms of Hydrocephalus. They only finally realized they need to do something when there was leaking FOR THE SECOND TIME!!! They did not give us confidence that the shunt is working before discharging us hence I got a second opinion who actually listens and talks to us comparing scans to scans and immediately did a shunt study to give me confidence that it is working only to find that it doesn’t!!! It was immediate admission and emergency shunt revision planning. The shocking thing is not just in the constant and consistent medical error but the rudeness and arrogance of not listening to the family members if you unfortunately get the registrars Mr H. and Ms M. both have zero care factors and clearly needs a different job. Make sure you trust your instinct, get a second opinion and don’t ever look back. Also the nurses on 7D is no different in behaviour. They are rude, deceiving and will lie to you about requests and passing on messages. This places has zero care factor I hope they reap what they sow in themselves or their own family members so they might understand that their action have consequences. Wondering if some of the good reviews are fake but the bad ones are consistent to our experience. Stay away.

There's a very rude front office staff at the reception area for the specialist clinics. I didn't know I had to check in directly at the specialist clinic hence asked the info staff, who then tried to help by looking at a list she had. But before she could inform me, the patient registration staff cut in and said with attitude 'look at the board!' She then rolled her eyes and said 'seriously' to the info staff beside her before I even walked away. This is totally uncalled for. Just had to let me know the process and I would know what to do next time.. She should take a page from the staff telling people to do the covid safe check in - great attitude and helpful.

On the 14/03/2022 I visited the Emergency Triage for some emergency care and sadly I was stuck in the hospital for 7 hours instead of the 3 hours I was promised by the ladies at the entrance, which is why I would like to minus 1 star. But the service of one junior doctor named Dr Janine Vu was outstanding. She took a good look at me, listened to our concerns about my issue and did not dismiss any of them. She was polite, friendly and not arrogant. She also prescribed medication that the specialists for my issue called perfect. She didn’t forget about me after I left the hospital like most doctors do and actually reached out to ENT Emergency hours after I left and asked them to see me on the day she then proceeded to call me immediately and let me know about the available appointment. Overall, an EXCELLENT doctor who really made the hospital go from 1 star to 4 star. If only every doctor at emergency care was like her. Now I feel only comfortable going to Northern Royal Hospital for emergency care in the future. Thank you Dr Janine Vu for being an excellent doctor. It is a rare find these days.

I am so impressed with the service provided by Royal North Shore Hospital. I am a public patient and the care was excellent. The respect and genuine care from Doctors, nurses, attendants and admin staff is amazing. I have not got words to express my Thanks for them This is my third experience with them and all 3times I have felt like royalty and I told them that Royal hospital treats patients like royalty. What an apt name. Gynecology, surgery, pedestrians all departments I had the privilege to be in contact with. I would give them 200% for care and hospitality. Thank you and please continue this wonderful treatment with all patients. Kind regards Preetima

The Royal North Shore Hospital is located on Reserve Road, St. Leonards. The Emergency centre is situated to the right when you drive into Reserve Road. Access to North Shore Private Hospital is best from Westbourne Street. Admissions to the Short Stay Surgical Unit is located on Level 4. You can ring 94632404 for instructions and time of admission.

They were amazing. I went to Northern beaches hospital first, and they sent me home with a prescription for painkillers that weren't even effective. After a day of more pain, I came to Royal North Shore, where they promptly looked after me. Unlike the Northern beaches, they took my blood pressure which turned out to be an issue all of its own, and I was taken in and looked after by wonderful attentive, kind nurses and doctors. Wonderful hospital, wonderful staff, will be my new go to hospital, instead of that waste of space Northern beaches hospital.

DO NOT COME HERE AS A WOMAN! I REPEAT DO NOT ATTEND THIS HOSPITAL IF YOU ARE A WOMAN; I am VERY young, I came in for extreme abdominal pain, vomiting, cold sweats. I needed a laparoscopy. Apparently, it went fine. I was discharged within the next day. The following days ahead; it became incredibly infected, due to being discharged with no antibiotics or follow up. When I came back. It was like hell on earth, I needed a ambulance, I was just left in a bed for 5 days straight, I saw one doctor, a male doctor, he was disappointed I wouldn’t allow him to use a speculum (due to a health condition I psychically cannot) His disappointment and change in tone was DISGUSTINGLY obvious. Swabs are still possible you just don’t get to open me up and look with your own eyeball. I had a surgical infection. I needed to beg for antibiotics so I could just go home. Every time I heard the curtin open, I’d start sobbing by the end of my stay, they’d traumatised me, from constantly new doctors walking in and asking to have everything explained again X5 times over a day, to TRAINING nurses coming in to ask some questions, you’ll be woken up continually throughout the night. This would all be OKAY, if they were actually solving the situation- but no we just played doctor check up and got 10 different answers. Lucky I can’t attach photos either. Would love to show what the served; A bread slice and coffee. :) my wounds are heavily infected and have damaged my stomach to a degree the muscles are affected. If you want to realise life ain’t that bad! Book your self in for a one way ticket to depression and infection !!!

This hospital deserves five stars! The medical staff exhibited exceptional expertise and care during my stay. The facilities were modern and spotless, providing a comfortable and reassuring environment. The nurses were attentive and compassionate, ensuring my needs were met promptly. The doctors communicated effectively and addressed all my concerns. The entire experience was efficient, from registration to discharge. Grateful for the dedicated healthcare professionals who made my recovery smooth and stress-free. Highly recommended!

I recently had two surgical procedures in the Royal North Shore Hospital and found the staff, nurses and doctors all very kind and friendly. I had a really great experience and was looked after with expertise. The hospital was easy to navigate and had plenty of easy access parking and easy accessible entrances and facilities.

Forgot to do a review... but was rushed there last year due to high CK levels and potential kidney damage from my blood test after a shock phone call from my psychiatrist after she got some blood test after myself taking some drugs. Was triaged fairly quickly on a wed before lunchtime, but waited for 6 hours or so due to number of tests that they did on me (as well as injected me some iv fluids). Didn't expect things to be that long (I was nervous as hell as its was my first time in actual emergency in a long time and i thought if there is nothing wrong they will find out quickly, but my dad says to me that its not the case but its other way around since he was with me and he experienced the system due to his own issues), so I do learn for future references that expect your day to be knocked out if something like that happens in the future. Nurses and doctors there were above board... I had experiences in both north shore and Northern beaches (see my other reviews) I can't hold any faults, they done their job. But I feel the emergency ward needs to be expanded or even a second emergency hospital around the area due to what im going to hear a population growth in the area to serve less serious issues. Edit number 2: done a few sleep study there, was good overall and im happy with the service despite us having to leave before 7am. Edit number 3: Attended their neuromusclar clinic (in relation to my ER with my CK and kidney issues) and they were very though with their testing, they even found out a few black spots within my eyes, so im awaiting contact from their eye specialists. They are going to book in more tests with the neuromusclar issues. Also done quite a fair bit of blood tests, happy with the service there.

Great hospital with lots if newly built sections and overall good service. Better quality of work than and hornsby hospital. Many parking areas available although expensive. About 10 minutes walk from St Leonard’s station. A few shops and restaurants available in the main entrance.

Have been twice this week waited over 5 hours to been seen by a nurse, it’s more like a IT office than a ED nurses & Dr’s just sit behind the desk tapping away, refusing to make eye contact. So many people just get up and walk out without being seen. And it’s not even a busy night either.

A big and convenience hospital. A good place to give birth. Nurses and midwives are amazing but I don't like doctors here. There are convenience stores inside the main building. Hard to find a slot for 12 hours parking. 2 hours parking slot is a bit expensive here.

Poor service from the Receptionist of Building 29 (HIS Department - Clinical Information) on 27.09.2021 at 12.00pm (young black lady, if you need to identify the employee). I was there to submit a formal request of Access of Clinical Information for myself. She didn't want to proceed with the request, asking me to contact my GP for this. As overseas visitor, my GP in my country would need to send a request via post from Europe, which is a bit ridicolous: very slow and expensive. When finally she accepted the request (not hard at all) she was questioning on why I hold an Australian Driver License if I'm an overseas visitor. I don't need to tell you why I need an Australian License. None of your business. Hope she got fired.

If you have an emergency situation, never go to RNSH ED! I have done it first time long time ago. I thought they were abnormally busy. But now I have seen it again, it’s just because of health stuff is ignoring your pain and situation for other reasons. I came with a foreign body on my knee(thorn) and it was more swelling every second. Spend 8 hours to get and xray result and treatment. Didn’t work. A team leader in ED even was gonna send me home to get fluid gone for 2-3 days.Don’t you have an ultrasound to check if you wanna see a foreign body and fluid going on. Next day spend 11 hours to get an ultrasound result. From 9am-8pm doc came at the end and he was sorry that he couldn’t get the paperworks in his deck for last 5 hours. Now I’m in surgical unit and will struggling with inflammation spread out whole my knee. I will straight go to a lawyer to investigate this further.

My father was rejected on arrival at RNSH due to being unvaccinated (even though he has an exemption). He has been having regular chemotherapy infusions at RNSH for months. Suddenly a 'faceless bureaucrat' has decided unvaccinated persons require a PCR test beforehand. @RNSH, your rules are unclear, changing daily and lack scientific basis. Patients in need are being turned away. Is this really healthcare?

I recently delivered my baby boy here and the whole journey was amazing! Some of them a lil bit cold but not that bad, but most of them the senior ones usually funny and lots of love. When I experienced with engorged during the stay the midwifes who took care of me were very helpful and supported me so well.

Yesterday, me and my daughter went to this hospital after she snapped her collar bone in half. Rude staff. We arrived at 3pm and left at 12am in the morning. All that got done was an xray and a cast. Not even surgery. They didnt even say what to do. Very unhelpful hospital. I do not recommend.

Excellent hospital when it comes to patient care. I had an elective angioplasty today and yes I did have to wait almost 3 hours before being admitted and processed due staff being extremely busy, but the care and attention I got before, during and after the procedure was 5 stars. Nurses were super attentive with regular offers of drinks and food with some sense of humour thrown in. Doctors kept me updated throughout the procedure, so i never felt anxious. Also very clean wards. Thank you so much to everyone that made my stay so comfortable.

What a hell. It’s almost 20 hours that my 8 years old daughter has been fasting for a simple surgery. 20 hours! They told us we still have to wait at least 1 hour more. I bet you it’s not gonna happen even in 3 hours. Such a shame. An adult can not tolerate this long fast. Being organised is not as much difficult if you care about your patient. We had this experience with her first surgery. They told us you should be here at 6 am and be fast from 9 pm the night before surgery. Her surgery just began at 3 pm ! We are talking about children not adults. My daughter face is completely pale. Don’t bring your child here. This is my last time that I’m coming here. I wish I could take her home now. I have to stay in this hell because I don’t want she starves 24 hours again in another day. This is a form of torture. Bye RNSH forever.

First, they misread my x-ray and told me to keep walking on a broken foot. 3 days later they called me and explained that the weekend staff made a mistake. They booked me in with an orthopaedic surgeon and made me wait 1h30m on the day of my appointment. I just got up and left, never saw their surgeon. Total waste of time on both occasions

The nurse receptionist at level 2 of the maternity unit could work on her customer service skills. Pregnant women have come a long way for check ups. They do not know your reporting procedure. A little kindness can go a long way. Your going home is important. Just think about the wonderful work you are doing to make a positive difference to the new life coming to the world.

Edit: after surgery I have tried to get my follow up appointment which is impossible as no one answers or returns calls and I never received my discharge papers which I also can't chase as no one returns my numerous calls. I thought this place was great and the nurses were but I honestly feel let down by this hospital as I can not get any communication whatsoever, not even the manager of the ward required is helpful. I would recommend getting staff to book as an outpatient has no chance! I recently had surgery here and all I can say is the entire team is amazing! They are compassionate, organised and they genuinely care. They helped manage my pain, empathised with my pre op concerns and made me as comfortable as possible. From the moment I arrived I felt cared for and I was truly touched by how much each and every person genuinely cares and is so patient with with everyone despite the high load of work they have. I wanted to say a big thank you to all of you for the amazing work you all do. Also a shout out to the 2 lovely ladies volunteering that helped me when I arrived. Thank you for your kind words and comfort. ?

My wife and I are pleased with the hospitality this hospital provides. Amenities are great, clean environment and the place doesn’t look dreadful at all like many hospitals do. Service was abit slow but that’s understandable as we came in on the 4th Jan and it was the hottest day ever. Ambos coming in and out bringing people who had heat strokes. Still, the ground staffs were maintaining calm and friendly. Thank you!

A newly refurbished hospital. All the maternity units are new. Most of the doctors are lovely. The food is terrible but you can bring your own food anyway. No restrictions on visiting hours. There are 9 birthing suites and 41 recovery rooms with 21 private rooms where partners can stay overnight.

Stay away, must be fake reviews to get you in. Surgery will be conducted by amateurs, not the doctors they tell you will be doing it. It’s a learning school and they need test subjects.

Let me tell you about the absolute worst experience of my life at this hospital. I was taken to the hospital by the police under the mental health act when I got there I was assessed. I told the person assessing me that if they sent me home I would be dead within 24 hours. I was kept at the hospital until about 3am when they informed me id be in the psychiatric ward for the night under voluntary choice. Obviously I was too out of it to say no. The next morning I was assessed again by a team of psychiatrists and told them again if they sent me home I'd kill myself. Apparently they just didn't believe me and sent me home again then 2 days later I was back again. After that my mum took me back home but truly the worst psychiatric staff on the planet and honestly thrive on people killing themselves clearly

Just spent 4 days in Royal north shore due to spinal surgery. Overall the staff and facilities were amazing. Everyone was friendly and supportive. Would like to thank Dr Sergides for safely performing the surgery and getting me on the list. Incredible neurosurgeon, Eternally grateful to you. Only criticism was that there was quite a delay on doctors relaying information to nurses post appointments. Besides that was seamless. While there was A LOT of people over the 4 days I just wanted to mention some of the nurses and staff that made my visit. I really am grateful to all of you for helping to get me back in my feet. Pre surgery: Sue, lucky and Fran - for onboarding and making me feel at home in the bed and at ease going into surgery. Post surgery: Heidi - for talking to me about her experience in London and bringing back the nostalgia whilst I came to from the anesthetiser. Andrew and Chris for helping out in the operating theatre. ICU: Kevin - for delaying lunch to get me settled (sorry) and giving out big reassurance vibes. Lisa - for being my hero and getting my bag so I could let my mum and friends know I was okay. Kelly - for taking care of me through the ICU night! So many toilet trips, also for talking to me about Ireland, Scotland and Murphy to put my mind at ease. Belle for fixing up the light that came on randomly through the night. Inspirational quick thinking. Ward 5: Maddy - for helping me through the worst post-op/prostatitis fuelled toilet trouble of all of all time. My god. Can’t express how much I appreciate clutch laxatives in a trying time. Ari - for checking in on me through the night and calling the doctor to sort my infection. Very grateful. X-ray - Emma and Laura for a speedy comfy scans when I could barely sit up. Joe for wheeling my bed all round the hospital - glad I got to share 35 of your 35000 daily steps Physio Claire - for teaching me how to get in and out of bed the right way. Alley - for making me bed and being really caring after a rough night of pain. Really made me feel welcome again after feeling like an inconvenience all night. Also the nurses names on the board was a really nice touch ☺️ Reily - for the fresh gown. Just hits different.

Clinical staff were fantastic in helping my mum with a burst aneurysm and multiple surgeries later she is doing relatively well. Reception however, esp at the outpatient clinics, are ridiculous. Being a health specialist myself I have worked in multiple health facilities over the last few decades and it’s quite clear why people complain about health services and why medical secretaries feel overlooked. Too many receptionists who really, quite obviously, don’t care about the patients and providing any form of care. It’s clear it’s just a job to them. No wonder the turn over rate is so high. It takes a certain person to work in healthcare and unfortunately the medical receptionists who do their job well are few and far between. We needed an interpreter for my mum’s results who was booked by the neuro department. Interpreters are difficult to come by and very busy. Booked for 1pm. 230pm and we are still waiting. Asked reception if interpreter was still available. Got a shrug. When I confirmed the booking over the phone (twice) they specifically told me to tell the neuro department that we had an interpreter booked and to prioritise us bc the interpreter is on a tight schedule. But do you think they cared at the appt? Not one little bit. Although we have a great health system in Australia and I am grateful for the care we have received, the admin side really needs to be overhauled. Clearly full of people who take no pride in their job. Pay them more, make it a proper qualification needed, and maybe we will get people who actually want to do the job and be there. I know how difficult it can be dealing with people all day in hospital situations but some people really should get a new job in a different field.

I don’t know why anyone would give this hospital less than 5 stars. They are the best in the country if not one of the best globally. Of course sometimes the wait is a bit long it stands to reason everyone wants to go there. The place is super clean the doctors and nurses are most caring and helpful. I had serious medical problems past and present but I would not want to go elsewhere. Most of all I feel save there. 👍👍👍🙏🙏🙏

Exceptional care at every level from Emergency to a week of care in the Orthopaedic Ward. Delays on busy Saturday night were to be expected. Young doctor stayed 2 hours beyond his shift to follow up XRays results and make a cast for my fractured ankle. One week in hospital with my neurological balance impediment complicating my mobility further.. Nurses, doctors , physios all exceptional. Felt exceptionally well cared for. High level of efficiency and excellent communication. Home hospital care for 2 weeks as followup. WOW. Exceeded my expectations.

Acquired a bad staph infection in my elbow that was getting worse and worse - attended RNSH emergency when things started to get very painful. Wait timings weren’t too bad. Returned the next day for a change of antibiotics and within a few days made a rapid recovery. Prior to the invention of antibiotics, staph infections had an 80% or higher mortality rate. The care, compassion and quick response from the triage staff, nurses and doctors was phenomenal.

We are so lucky to have this brilliant free hospital in Northern Sydney. I can’t say there are no problems, but the good is so good I felt 5 stars deserved. Emergency is over full and under staffed, they have an impossible task, and will never keep everyone happy, but they are mostly wonderful dedicated people. The facilities and equipment are fantastic and yes, at times a nurse cannot rush to your bedside, but having experienced hospitals all over, this is one of the best public hospitals, with amazing dedicated staff

I had a lower spine accident. I live on the northern benches so I went to the new main hospital twice, only to be given painkillers and told to see my GP..(this was 26dec to 1 Jan holidays). I was in too much pain so went to Mona Vale hospital, who had one look at me, examined me straight away, and sent me to Royal North Shore. On arrival, I was examined straight away, had a bone scan, and then treated for damaged discs in my lower back. I have never been in so much pain in all the accidents that I have had. Stayed I RNS for 8 days , the whole staff from the ambulance to my ward bed are ledgens, i had 5 star treatment by people I felt that did care about me so made me know I was in the best place for the.condition I was in.i fully trusted them to do what they were doing to fix me. I went in as a public patient! Not Private.. Thanks RNSH. Paul.

I recently underwent a major surgical procedure relating to a birth at RNSH public. I’d only previously experienced a private hospital and so was a little nervous about how I would be treated in the public hospital. We were really impressed with the midwives at this hospital who were all so patient, kind, pleasant and had a great bedside manner. Whilst the facilities were not as “luxurious” as a private hospital and there’s no night nursery, high tea etc the overall postnatal maternity experience was still lovely.

I’ve just spent 9 days here post ankle surgery. The Orthopaedic staff on ward 5 West have been delightful, caring and attentive. As a public patient, I can honestly say I have been treated like I was staying in a five star hotel with my own room and en-suite. The waiting lists maybe longer than some hospitals, however when I come to getting the job done right, you should come to Royal North Shore in Sydney. Thank you looking after me so well

Beautiful Building and architecture with great expense of Tax payer funds to create a postcode based class public hospital in the Liberal voting Heartland. For Coffee afficiancos. Hudson is a better brew as opposed to the 3rd rinse dishwashwater at Zouki. Alarmist and false sense of security with covid 19 practices. Scan once at the door and then the cleaning staff will pretend act busy whilst debris accumulates in common areas. My experience in the neurology ward 7D as an emergency patient. Dr Keryn Davidson with her offsider Dr Shanu, intentionally withheld information in relation to my clinical notes, potential risks, overall complexity of my procedure, had clear missing diagnostic imaging results, and a clear lack of recent or relevant experience in dealing with cases like mine. Yet, they attempted to schedule 1 me, after falsely accussed me of becoming aggressive, wanted to talk about my case to my wife without me present. Difficult, yes, apprehensive, yes, concerned most definitely. But they weren't blindsided. I had also mitigating circumstances fully disclosed to the team in an open and transparent manner very much a one way flow. The clinical consultants overall, aren't humble and really just are focused on patient churn and $$$ rather than sustainable outcomes in the best interests of their cases. The ward staff refused to let me go for a walk after being advised of a terrible prognosis, and they were very coercive with their treatment plan without consultation i.e. making formal arrangement without a discussion. Zero security awareness in the ward in relation to patients data free for all to see on unlocked terminals left in hallways. On balance there are clear tensions between nursing social and clinical staff without clear communication. The ratios were very generous but the procedures are not being followed. Great bonus experience if you want to lose weight. I lost 3kgs in my 10 day stay as meals were various compositions of boiled gruel. My blood pressure tanked and was given inaccurate information in relation to fasting and lack of fluids. Getting a canula put in took around 8 attempts from this and I needed a paediatric instrument with an ultrasound because my blood pressure wasn't maintained. These guys couldn't run a Friday meat raffle let alone life changing neurology. I left this tax payer funded disaster (and I have full insurance with top cover) with a view to get a second opinion, having done so has also vastly improved my awareness and potential success factors and my overall well being after one of the most stressful experiences in my life. I would recommend this approach to others until serious changes are made, and will refer my matter formally. Be aware...

Terrible midwifes in birth units/clinic. No respect for patients. No humanity at all. And we experienced this with many different midwives during our appointments. Hospital did great with structure, rooms, equipments, etc. But staff is definitely lacking. They went as far as to alter my wife’s belly measurements in the forms at 36 weeks because it was to big when they measured it. We will definitely follow with a formal complaint to the health board.

I had my scoliosis fusion surgery here couple of days ago. The worst stay ever, some of the nursing staff weren’t attentive to the needs of the patients. Hated how long it took them to respond to the buzzer when I was pain. I have to say that nurse Erika was the only helpful nurse during my stay. The doctors were helpful too and the physiotherapists who helped me after my surgery.

This review is for various depts as I had to use quite a few. From being transferred from Ryde by excellent Paramedics. The ED at North Shore. Ward 8 for 2 nights being overseen by Plastics, ENT and lovely nurses and doctors there. A major tooth infection caused unexpected results that all departments followed up efficiently. Discharged one day but had to return the following as issues continued. Straight in to ED. Help and advocacy from ED Resus. ENT on the spot closely followed by Plastics and Anethetists all making the best decisions for me. ICU to follow and more complications so cardiac involved and oral surgeon. It was amazing watching everyone come together to get me the best outcome....and I am still here!! What an awesome team here at Royal North Shore. I know hospitals get a bad rap a lot of the time but I could not praise the people here more highly. At all times I felt well informed, supported and highly cared for. I still have a day or 2 of recovery to go but I know when I walk out of here I will be healthy and with a clean bill of health far beyond what I was expecting. Thank you to all the staff at RNSH!

I experienced a difficult time in 2019, going through a miscarriage. Fortunately my GP referred me to EPAS (early pregnancy assessment service) at Royal North Shore. I had an (internal) ultrasound at a Chatswood clinic but it was extremely uncomfortable and the results were unclear (hence why I was recommended by my GP to see EPAS). I had no prior experience or knowledge to what to expect and thankfully I met Vicky. She was super patient, incredibly kind, and sensitive during the entire process. The (internal) ultrasound I had was professional and as comfortable as internal ultrasounds go .. Due to my complications, I had to return for weekly blood tests. Vicky was kind enough to give me an urgent referral notice for each of these blood tests. And without asking, she mailed me some more referral letters when she knew I was running out. Because of this one staff member at EPAS, I felt less stressed throughout the process. VICKY YOU ARE THE BEST! PS - the best time to come in for a blood test is early in the morning :) This is also when most of the night shift staff leave, meaning plenty of parking!

My wife recently gave birth to our son here and the team were amazing. Our midwife Ellie was always available when needed and when she wouldn't be in, she let the other midwifes know about what was happening in case we needed anything. The pregnancy in itself had complications resulting in my wife going into the hospital 2 or 3 times a week for months to see obstetricians and have scans done these were easy to book in, free and almost always right on time. Her obstetricians Antonia, Catherine and Elizabeth were all compassionate, extremely qualified and able to articulate the current state of the pregnancy in a way that was easy to understand and they were always happy to spend any time neccesary answering questions. The ultrasound team, especially Lexi and Lauren, were always excellent in what they did and made a generally unpleasant experience much more pleasant than it otherwise may have been! Ellie was kind enough to organise a private room for my wife after the arrival of our son and once she was in this area is was like an endless procession of (free) specialists; lactation specialists, paediatricians (at one point we had 3 looking at him at once on account of it being a training hospital) along with the surgical team and the anaesthesioligists coming through to talk about how the different aspects of the birth went. All in all the team and the hospital in general were excellent and if they happen to see this Amanda and I would like to reitterate our thanks for the safe arrival of Oliver, who is now growing expentially as a result of his huge appetite! If we were to have another once, we wouldn't hesitate for a second to come back through here again (although hopefully slightly less often)!

This review is for the birthing/maternity unit at RNSH. I had a baby in April at RNSH public. The whole experience was very positive, from my 1st appointment till the day I had my baby, and came back home. The midwives, doctors and lactation consultants are great. I was scheduled for regular check ups during my pregnancy, I met different midwives each time and they were lovely, very kind and sweet. I had an early delivery, which was taken care of by the midwives and doctors, and they helped me with a normal birth. They were all super supportive and positive. Also, my stay with the baby at the hospital was also very satisfying as they gave me a private room and took very good care of both of us. Very impressed by the service. Thanks from the bottom of my heart. Kavita

I spent the day in Accident and Emergency, Fast Track and Radiology and EMU being treated for a road accident. A big thank you to all the staff in the teams on Sunday 16 August 20 and my treating doctors and nurses. A long day in pain was eased by your care and professionalism. I appreciate all you do and understand the delays and processes. If you have life threatening illness, you get prioritised properly and I am happy to wait. My only request would be to improve communication with eaxh patient. I really didn't know the extent of my injuries until discharge at 1030pm. Simply explaining the processes you need to sign off may help, although everyone in the ED is busy. Thank you again RNSH ED team.

Great hospital with great staff. They ever fail to keep a smile on your face. I have gone here since I was a little kid, very hygenic and family friendly with a playroom and tv in waiting room. It may take a while to be seen by a doctor if come in by ER, but it is because everyone wants to be treated by the best doctors. And is always worth the wait. Shoutout to pediatric nurse Kat, she's the best. I love RNSH. <3

Be aware of Dr Wendy Lu, she resisted to release me without finding out what is wrong with me when i went to the hospital with ambulance in critical chest pain. She said we have more important patients here, 10 days after in the hospital I was diagnosed with a chronic disease which needs urgent attention. She is a disgrace to the NSW health system, no morals and so mean when she was speaking on behalf of the hospital. I hope the hospital hear my voice about this doctor they think is doing the wrong thing. If you have been Dr Wendy Lue’s patient, get a second opinion, she can not be trusted. I am so disappointed with the whole service we have received and definitely make an official complaint against her. How dare she speaks to patients like this and pretends to be the voice of the hospital. Disgusting service, i would give then 0 stars

Read a review about So called Wendy Lu before coming to the hospital for my chest pain and the person mentioned about carelessness of this doctor. She did the exact same thing to me, i was diagnosed with irregular heart condition and she pushed me to go home with only a panadol because apparently they had other important patients. After a week in the hospital i now have to follow up my serious heart condition which she thought is nothing. She is a disgrace to this hospital and public health system. She is a danger to public patients, be careful of this name You hear Wendy Lu, just speak to someone else and don’t accept anything from this heartless person

I have a chronic bone condition called Osteogenesis imperfecta, haven't had treatment coming up 5 years. My own sibling got treatment for the same disability. Incredibly unprofessional Endocrine department with either being given wrong fax numbers to different departments, also being told again and again that the Dr I have to see didn't make me as much as a starter appointment after sending off rounds of bloods, referrals from my Gp. If you want decent service go to another hospital they are terrible here. I am currently following up my formal complaint on the ENDOCRINE DEPARTMENT

Can NSW Health look into the stupid ways the doctors handle patients appointments in the general hospital. I was about to make and formL complaint as this is not right. Why the Gynochology Department don't give appointments to patients. Why is it so hard to allocate a time to patients. They tell they will call between 9am till 12pm and we just have to hold the phone to ring. I missed one phone call due to been admitted in another hospital for infusions. And since then I'm trying to organise to make appointments to get my results. So today the doters missed my appointment never called on the time which was allocated. The patient is the one who go to suffered, get the management right, set allocate times don't tell between 9am till 12 you will get a call. We do need to run to the toilet or engage in other daily chores. Utterly disapointed. Last week they gave me an appointment after 6 weeks. Why the patient got to wait 6weeks after a procedure to get the results? Some work places don't let us use mobiles. Set times for patients I'm sure that's not that hard.

Dr Veivers and his ENT team at Royal North Shore performed a emergency procedure to delicately remove a 2 cm chicken bone from a tricky area in my oesophagus early Mon morning, following an admission on Sunday night. I am so grateful that he was able to carefully remove without damaging my oesophagus. I understand any damage would have been potentially life threatening and would have meant a long stay in ICU. Came with eye problem (vessel popped influenced my vision), begged to see an ophthalmologist, they ignored me for hours, because of hours of sitting under the cold air conditioning and noise I have developed migraine, so the intern doctor easily dismissed it as me fancying a problem and it's just a headache (yeah, women don't count). I have spent about 9 hours there. No helping at all, my vision took some weeks to get restored, plus they have registered me as a private patient just because. Really unprofessional staff.

The emergency department was a tad understaffed when I was there. There was one nurse running around, and she was friendly and helpful but the doctors are either overworked, underpaid, or both, or simply have bad attitude. My little one vomited out all the meds they gave her. and when I went to the docs to tell them about it, they did not seem to care, at all. I had to get to that busy nurse, who then consulted the doctors and came back to me. Like did I break protocol by speaking to the docs directly? Is that a thing in the emergency department these days?

Just left North shore emergency hospital after spraining my ankle very and I would like to say a big thank you to all the team they're very very caring and loving everyone from the head of nursing Alison to Beck and Alice. From the moment I walked in there crippled I was attended to with painkillers and it was a very efficient process with X-rays and MRI assessing my situation and I was on my way home for recovery. Every mother's Day from here on in I will be thinking of the warm service I got thank you very much North shore emergency team cxxo

Complete joke, one psych working all night for such a large hospital. 12 hour wait all night and told no one can give a time on how much longer could be another 12 hours. Continuing let down by the mental health system in Australia. Also being mental health patient they take every thing away from you. Including your clothes so you’re left with a gown. People in jail would be getting treated better Edit when finally seeing the psychiatrist after 15 hours of waiting, I couldn’t speak highly enough of the psychiatrist. He took the time to listen and understood what was going on. I’m not from Sydney but the psychiatrist at royal north shore has been by far the best public one I’ve spoken to.

I was driven to NS Emergency with chest pains and recent history of heart problems on a Sunday evening. Was able to dropped right at the door, was quickly attended to, placed in EM Ward and well cared and monitored / tested for several hours before being transferred to main ward for a night, then private ward for another night, with a bunch of tests in between. Hand off between nurses and doctors was very good. The specialist team explained results and prognosis well. Hospitals are too be avoided, but if I had to be in one I would go back to RNS. Only minor complaints were sitting in a drafty corridor in what felt like a basement waiting 30 min for CT Angio scan and the discharge report not listing all the tests that were run in one document. Thanks team!

Torn my achilles heel tendon during sport and came to ER. After 3 hours they did an xray... not sure why.. They came back and told me there is no broken bones and it must be my achilles................. seems like they're handing out medical degrees to anyone and everyone. Got told another 2 hours wait to have a specialist to check on my achilles... typical Royal North Shore ER experience.

Yesterday I sought the services of RNS Emergency, given my GP was on leave. Every aspect of the service I received was excellent. The people were professional and engaging. As it turned out I had a fractured rib. Please pass on my thanks to all your staff. Regards Ian Murray AM

I came to the Ambulatory Care department yesterday because I am having cataract surgery done and I wasn't impressed about the service. I was around 1 and a half hours early because I had to come from Toronto NSW and I wanted to get to my appointment early in case there was any transport delays (one of my TAFE Teachers said you should always prepare for delays and so that's what I always do), when I found out where the department was I showed up at the front desk and the Receptionist talked to me and told me that I was early and said I should walk around and return 30 minutes before my appointment which I had no problems with but another young Receptionist at the desk made a rude comment about me to the other receptionist. I then left and waited in the main part of the hospital to wait, then when I returned the Receptionist who I saw had left but the rude one was still there and the new Receptionist told me to take a number which I did, then the new Receptionist called me and I signed in then sat down and waited, then a nurse saw me, checked my height, weight, blood pressure, ecg and filled out and checked my details (she was good and I think one of the best people there), then I went back to sit and then I saw the Anesthetist about the procedure and the anesthetic (I told her I wanted General instead of Local because I didn't want to be awake during the procedure, she said I had to have someone there, would there be someone to check on me at home and then tried to talk me in to the Local (even though the records and input from the nurse said that it was agreed that it would be the General and I would be staying over night. The Anesthetist didn't seem to realise that at first which didn't impress me because I think the nurse asked her and she agreed on it)). T hen I saw one of the Endocrinology Doctors and didn't know how old the form was (shouldn't the date be on the form or know about my previous surgery (it should all be in my records because my previous surgery was in that hospital). To me they seemed to think I just wanted the cataract surgery done like it was cosmetic surgery and it was my choice where I know it was a necessity ordered by my Opthamologist. Then I had some blood tests taken and I went home. I think it could have been better done if they had read my records and the rude Receptionist had just said sorry (her mistake and it wasn't even called for). It's pretty obvious that it's a teaching hospital from that behaviour and the young doctors and the rude Receptionist have a lot to learn still. Also shows how much respect nurses should be given because I think she was one of the best people I saw that day (my mum was a Trained Nurse there decades ago too and I know if she was alive still she wouldn't have been impressed by the rude Receptionist and the fact that the Doctors who I saw didn't seem to read my records or the form).

A hospital with a great atmosphere overall. Nice cafes with tasty food and other shops. Their coffee is a bit overpriced at $5.56 for a small beverage. Beautiful and colourful building inside out and awesome outdoor sitting area next to the main building entrance. Parking gets full early in the morning so it's sometimes hard to find a spot.

The RNSH staff is a compassionate force of nature! Their dedication to helping others is truly remarkable. Words fall short in expressing my gratitude for their unwavering commitment to care. Thank you, RNSH team, for your exceptional service!

The Hospital has just what is necessary to work, the infrastructure is good but of course it could improve much more. That's to complain about the government that doesn't manage taxes well (as always) The staff is also small but incredibly efficient, precise, they do not waste your time with long hours of waiting like the Northern Beaches Hospital (incredibly expensive, inefficient and low-class professionals), the waiting chairs are comfortable as if you were traveling in business class on a plane which makes it comfortable to take a short nap while you wait (don't ask for luxurious chairs but very comfortable ones) Since for me the most important thing is time and efficiency and effectiveness, I give the hospital staff 10 out of 10

Dr Nancy(Jin Li) is the best doctor, she took care of my head injury very carefully and gentle. Thank you so much! Although i saw the Clock behind the counter very strange, i swear i saw 4 AM and 5 mins later, the Clock moved very fast back to 2:10 AM (the correct one), that one i cant explain.

I am so disappointed. I had a colonoscopy on 4th of December the nurse who looked after me after the procedure was very bad. She offered if I would like sandwiches I said yes I chose chicken sandwich she brought me vegetable sandwich! I requested coffee but she brought me a cup of warm milk! Then when she came to take the needle from my arm she pulled it side way and caused bleeding and big mark on my arm! I feel this person had issues. I have attached the photo of my injured arm below.

😠 Doctor was half an hour late for my skin check appointment and once taken into her room it was all very rushed. My skin was very briefly 'checked' and before I could even make conversation she said I was done. She left the room and I wondered if that was really it??? I was in there for a total of 2...

😐 I’ve had a bit of a mixed bag here which is fine if it’s bulk billed. However, it costs $40 (the gap) to get my results (even when they are fine) I think this is unreasonable. I also feel like they’re a bit dismissive of my illness which if left untreated can lead to serious complications. This plac...

😠 Today I came in for an iron infusion, after my consult with Dr Biswas I was sent to reception but was told to sit down again. I had no instructions on where to wait, so I sat close to the Drs office. Dr Biswas saw me sitting there and seemed annoyed. I told him I was instructed to sit by reception....
