This
is
my
recollection
of
the
events,
that
have
taken
place.
On
the
10
Nov
22
my
89
year
old
father
was
taken
to
Canterbury
hospital
via
ambulance
for
covid-19
infection.
He
was
in
the
isolation
ward
for
7
days.
Three
days
into
his
admission
we
were
advised
my
father
was
assaulted
by
a
dementia
patient.
My
father
sustained
a
fractured
nose
&
abrasions
on
his
face,
due
to
covid
isolation,
the
hospital
was
unable
to
move
my
father
to
alternative
room.
We
were
advised
that
they
will
station
a
nurse
24/7
at
the
door
way
of
the
room.
Two
days
after
we
were
advised
the
same
dementia
patient
assaulted
my
father
again.
They
provided
some
excuse,
during
the
change
of
shifts
the
nurse
was
not
at
the
door,
as
she
needed
to
get
personal
protective
equipment.
Dad
sustained
cuts
to
his
chin,
lip
&
cheek.
The
ward
advised
my
father
will
be
moved
into
a
room
by
himself,
the
next
day
I
spoke
to
dad
&
asked
how
he
was
being
in
a
room
alone,
he
said
he
was
still
in
a
room
with
four
other
patients.
Trying
to
get
an
answer
or
for
someone
to
take
any
responsibility
has
been
distressing.
The
nursing
unit
manager,
general
manager,
no
one
is
willing
to
return
our
calls.
The
day
he
was
discharged
he
didn’t
seem
alert
or
himself,
he
was
disorientated
&
not
communicating
much.
We
called
the
GP,
who
then
advised
to
call
an
ambulance.
He
was
taken
to
Concord
hospital,
they
determined
he
had
a
blood
clot
on
his
brain,
which
was
a
week
old.
It’s
now
evident
this
was
connected
from
the
assaults.
Long
story
short,
my
father
has
been
in
hospital
for
three
months
&
it
appears
he
will
never
be
able
to
live
on
his
own
again.
The
frustrating
issue
is
we
have
been
asking
canterbury
hospital
for
an
incident
or
investigation
report.
it's
the
same
laborious
excuses,
we
are
having
meetings,
we
are
liaising
with
the
executive,
we
are
interviewing
the
staff.
What
they
are
attempting
to
do
is
fabricate
a
story
&
have
everyone
agree
to
it,
three
months
later,
still
waiting
for
the
report.
This
ordeal
has
affected
my
family
mentally
&
emotionally.
My
assessment
of
Canterbury
hospital
is
unsafe,
negligent,
careless,
inconsiderate.
Canterbury
hospital
management
should
revaluate
there
morals
as
human
beings,
dealing
with
the
bureaucracy
is
awful.
The
way
my
fathers
situation
has
been
managed
is
disgusting,
dreadful,
appalling
&
inexcusable.
There
needs
to
be
a
Royal
Commission
into
the
health
system
&
they
can
start
at
Canterbury
hospital,
to
remove
the
cancerous
culture.
