I don’t usually like to write negative reviews and I totally respect medical people especially nurses. I understand how challenging the job is by taking care of sick people and working overtime! But I was really shocked by the poor service here. I stayed a night here and every-time I asked for something, I felt like I was annoying them. I was leaking quite badly and it soaked the entire bed. They refused to change the bed linen telling me my surgeon told them not to!🤷. I can understand my surgeon tells them to not remove any bandages but hard to believe my surgeon wanted me to sleep on a wet bed all night… When I just woke up from the surgery, I wasn’t fully awake yet. I heard the nurse telling me three times that the surgeon said I could go home after I already paid 1000 for my one night stay. It’s not a nice feeling when the hospital trying to push you to go home after a 4 hr surgery while I was leaking badly especially after I already paid for the stay! Soft food was prescribed but all they gave you are cold (sometimes cooked) meal. I was fasting for quite a long time and they told me they finished lunch at 1pm (🤷) and all I could have was a cold sandwich. I was hoping for the rest of the stay all cooked meals I previously selected for dinner and breakfast would be warm. Nope! They all came cold. I asked for breakfast at 6.30am and they told me to wait till 7am. Till I asked again at 8.30am, they served completely cold toasts and eggs. The foods were obviously just sitting there for 1.5hr and no one could deliver it to the patients! I asked for breakfast because I hardly ate any of my completely cold pasta dinner and I was hungry! Ppl pay more to stay in private hospitals but I think the service here is a lot worse than public hospital. The treatment I received didn’t worth 1000/night at all. I never wish to go there again.

EDIT: Emailed my complaint 3 weeks ago, was told "someone will contact you soon".......Nothing. This place is beyond appalling, from reception to the Executive panel. No patient care, no professionalism, definately no honesty. I was booked in, the hosp didn't do my private health check until after I was operated on, the hosp used the wrong info & told me I wasn't covered after being in my room, recovering, for 5 days! (which could not be more wrong) some women who claimed she was on the Executive panel then came in my room & kicked me out without rehab, because accordingding to her I wasn't covered, following a major 8hr surgery. Gross misconduct.

Management and co-ordination seriously lacking. My Surgeon, Dr Petchell was wonderful, caring and a great communicator. The anaesthetist was wonderful. The nursing staff: most were fantastic, some were learning. Food is generally very poor; no checks done. As a coeliac and diabetic (diet controlled) I understand it is complex, but it’s not rocket science! Gluten and high carb were frequently offered!!! The Physio and gym: the exercises were given to me on paper, thank goodness…as each Physio had their own idea…no consistency, no co-ordination. The facility: level 4 was in a shocking state (although clean). I was moved to another floor after a week, so they could start renovations. About three years too late. The whole building is looking tired and overdue for a makeover. EnvironmentL commitment: nothing obvious. Thousands of plastic water bottles in plastic rubbish bags mixed with general waste. If there is not enough money for the owners to maintain and manage properly, the owners should get out of the business. I’ve stayed in better backpacker accommodation in third world countries.

My elderly mother recently spent nine days as an in house patient at SPH, recovering from a fractured leg. It was an extremely distressing experience for her. Firstly, I wish to point out that as a non-member of a private health fund, my mother had to pay over $1000 per day out of her savings for this bad experience, definitely not value for money! Issues included: • Being left sitting on the toilet for up to 30 minutes at a time • Not receiving any physio on three of the nine days • Some rehab sessions were less than 15 minutes • Non-compliance to our clear and repeated request in the first few days for a soft diet – the staff’s response to my mother when this was pointed out to them was to ‘eat the bread’ • The food was an extremely low quality On several occasions different staff members reiterated that they were short staffed. When one pays $1000 per day, THIS IS NOT ACCEPTABLE! I hope my mother never has to go to rehab again, but if she does I will certainly not be admitting her to Sydney Private Hospital.

Avoid this place like the plague if you can. If your specialist can only operate here, go to another specialist, if at all possible. Booked in for cataract surgery, after being prepped and wasting my time (had to arrive at 6:30 am), was told that the surgery was cancelled because the hospital had no suction operating, and of course suction is essential for surgery. How a vital piece of equipment such as that could be allowed to fail in a private hospital (read "$$$") is beyond comprehension. And don't complain about phones not being answered, because that seems common as well. Maybe there is a competition to see how long unanswered phones can ring for? And when the phone finally rings out, no facility to leave a message. (which probably wouldn't be returned?) Messages left on the web page also a waste of time, they go ignored. Premises look tired, and badly need a good renovation. No reflection on the nursing staff who are pleasant and no doubt competent; but management seems to need a big shake up. This hospital hardly inspires confidence, just read all the other poor reviews.

I have tried to visit my Mum who was transferred there for rehab. She was transferred there to be closer to me so I can visit. I wasn’t able to even get past reception as apparently children aren’t allowed. I have a 3 year old and no one to mind her. What am I supposed to do? Not visit my Mum for weeks? There is nothing about this policy on their website. My daughter was even wearing a mask. It’s ridiculous. If you’re not allowing visitors at least have the decency to let people know in advance.

I recently visited a patient and was appalled by the standards. My friend’s bin was overflowing (3-4 days of rubbish) and I estimate his bathroom hadn’t been cleaned for the same period, it was filthy. The carpet tiles outside his room are worn to the rubber base. As for food, it is disgraceful, my friend has ‘Diabetic’ stamped all over his menu and he was served up for breakfast a Whittakers choc/peanut bar with his Sultana Bran. For morning tea he was given a scalding cup of tea, 3 Jatz biscuits and a quarter of a an unwrapped slice of cheese. Is this appropriate from a hygiene perspective? This is 3rd world stuff and not consistent with what should be served in any hospital let alone a ‘private’ facility. I feel for all the staff, they are so under-resourced and under constant pressure. Be prepared to be contracted by the Health Dept as I will be reporting this to them also. 1 star is the lowest rating, it isn’t deserved of that.

The paragraph below was written when I was an inpatient, with a less than enthralling experience. There’s a completely different experience with their physio rehab team, who are superb. Definitely come as an outpatient. I’m at the Sydney Private Hospital now, recovering from knee replacement. My surgical stocking (essential for weeks after surgery) has not been replaced for two days. I have been promised a replacement several times. Nothing happens. Physiotherapy is excellent. As with most hospitals, the food is vile

I was booked in for knee replacement by Dr. Andrew Strokon 3Rd May, 2023. Pre-admission the office didn’t get the paperwork together although it was completed on the computer the day earlier and so I was asked me to fill the questionnaire booklet once again. Very quick to ask for the payment upfront. I was allocated a room on the 4th floor. My first impression was depressing. Worn out carpet. Tv not working. Air conditioning not working. When I press the help button a nurse comes after 10 plus minutes. She goes away to meet my needs and returns after 15 minutes. This kept on happening. I complained. They moved me to another room. The same here also. So why did they move me? Then they moved me to another room. Air conditioning is working. The wall fan works intermittently. TV doesn’t work. When in pain requesting relief medicine takes them nearly 20 minutes to come back to me. 🙀🤷‍♂️💩I am totally unhappy with this Private Hospital. The nurses have asked me to write a report complaining all the inadequacies. Before I go. My hydrotherapy is booked in for 10 am and I requested a waterproof bandage over my surgery and hour prior to 10 am. It is 11.52 am and still waiting. Where is the manager? Bad experience. Wake up. Someone from management come and talk to me.

I have had recent dealings with Sydney Private Hospital. I am writing to air my views on which my mother was treated. My mother was 96 year old admitted to this hospital on the 1/2/22 after a fall she had. With the exception of a small few the nursing staff treated my mother in a nonemapathic way, she said they were rough when they were moving her around which caused her pain as she has severe osteo arthritis. She also asked them to make her a cup of soup which was provided by me , nurses refused to make it for her. She has now left that hospital with three pressure sores as they did not move my mother during her stay or do anything to prevent them. On several occasions I tried to ask to speak with someone regarding her condition and plan they had for her and after about 5 weeks I got to speak to the Dr who was looking after her. Overall very disappointed with the treatment my mother received and for the lack of contact to me regarding her condition .

giving this one star is the only way i can post this but in reality No stars for this place they dont deserve it .older staff are delegating to Juniour staff who are Not paid members But UNI STUDENTS on clinical Placement to make critical decisions on patients whilst they are still learning and they arent up to doing that stuff Nor should they be . There should be more accountability and supervision of Uni students On clinical Placements from all Unis In NSW Teaching medicen. Juniour staff who are Uni students Do Not Listen to families Nor do staff are care about the families and there's no Holisitic care. Procedures and Policies arent up to date and communication is very Poor.

Had my knee replacement surgery done at this hospital found the nursing staff on level 4 very friendly and helpful. After surgery had my rehab done there for 2 months twice a week the rehab staff were also very friendly and highly trained. They did a excellent job on my knee and got me walking in quick recovery time.Big thank you to all rehab staff.

Had a tonsillectomy here in October and the service was absolutely perfect. The nurses were always on call and ready for some quick relief for pain and other discomforts. The room was also very comfortable and super clean. This was an amazing experience for such a painful procedure.

This hospital gave me world class treatment, I came in on 01/09/2022 to have wisdom teeth removed under Dr Khaled Zoud. I was amazed at how smoothly the process went and how kind the nurses were in the day surgery unit. 5/5 would come back any time a procedure needs doing.

During my time with the Hospital as a patient and as a day Rehabilitation patient, I have had only the highest of professional care and best practice shown towards me during my stay in hospital from the 27th July 2022 and with the day Rehabilitation Unit from the 15th August to the 07th November 2022. The Staff were always friendly, thoughtful and put my concerns first, making me feel comfortable during my treatment at the Hospital. Thank you to all who helped me on my way back to good health again.

Not a good 1st impression. Called to find out about my father who was admitted for surgery , I was on hold for 30mins before an automated push option was offered. Only to find out all option mail boxes were full ... maybe a private hospital should employ a real person to answer a phone ?

DON'T USE THIS DISGRACEFUL HOSPITAL. It is filthy, TV controls, patient table edges all grimy. Dirty carpet throughout (heavens knows what blood, urine, vomit it contains and when it is cleaned- probably never). The food is something like poor economy class airline food. Some of the staff are pleasent and others outright rude. AVOID this atrocious excuse for a private hospital at all costs.

My 87 year old husband was admitted to this hospital to have a corneal transplant. We were told on three occasions that it would be a day procedure only. I was expecting to bring him home when the hospital called and said he would be staying the night. I had to drive quite a long distance to bring his nightwear and medication. When I arrived at 6pm he had been given no food at all even though he is diabetic and had starved since 7 am as directed. No reason was given for keeping him overnight but I had to demand food for him. Nothing was offered to him after the surgery- not a sandwich or biscuit. I cannot believe it. Finally at 6.45 a meal arrived for him. If I had not demanded it he would have gone hungry or worse still had a diabetic episode. Who is responsible for this debacle? I am very reluctant to leave him here overnight.

My wife went there for surgery. I did not feel that the hospital is up to the standard. Stuff is not well informed. My wife went from surgery to recovery but staff told me that she is still in surgery. The room she was given was so tiny that the nursing staff could bearly move let alone the visitor. When my wife buzzed up for any help she had to wait a while for the staff to answer. Hospital is clean. But it does not worth the money.

I would never work here again and would give 0 stars if possible. I'll explain why below but first. Are you aware the nursing staff for a level 3 registered nurse get $24.50 per hour which is below award rates but somehow they are allowed to do this. I cannot even imagine what an assistant in nursing gets. So i was hired by this greedy company due to a course i did by a dodgie training company "Australian healthcare academy" so i should have suspected this would not go well however I was hopefully it would be different and was trying to transition to general nursing from being placed in mental health as a new grad and was unable to change fields (that is another story for another time). The work load was heavy and there was a lack of training or willingnes to train. it is heavily reliant on students and people doing various placements and without that free labour it is impossible to get the work required done with a ration of 1 nurse to a whole wing (10-12 patients) with an an AIN to assist. Most people are new to nursing so I never felt the patients were safe or suported in my few short months there. Also people just assumed I knew what to do without ever being shown or only being shown once under great stress (which most people tend to forget things under such pressure) and the environment is toxic. The manager of rebhab Ryan was lazy and spent time bragging about how he got the position by not doing work and talking himself up. On the first day i asked multiple people what the pay rate was and everyone kept dodging the question with "let's talk about something more pleasant" or "lets not discuss that". I incorrectly gave the wrong account details but they were so disorganised they did not know if the money bounced back or if it went to someone else and it took 6 weeks of this occuring for them to start to look into it, despite me flagging it when i saw everyone else got paid but i kept being redirected and fobbed off. I was trying to work with them but there were so incompetent and apathetic about it as i guess it was my money and they didn't care. In the end i had to take screenshots of all my bank accounts and send them to the head guy Pavan to be paid as he claimed i was lying (i am many things but i am not a liar). This caused much stress to me and was the worst experience in my nursing carer to date. The union was a little helpful but they seemed to fold when they guy started threatening legal action which i am unafraid of I took care of it myself. In truth they probally should be investigated (the whole maquarie group), who knows what will be found. So it was a slow process but i eventually made them do the right thing and they paid me at the correct nursing level (i sent my statement of service at the start). it turned out someone had changed an official document and crossed out RN3 to RN2 (no signature acknowledging it by me) ignoring my hours of service. The hours are not much more then the public system (1982 for public, 1976 for private establishments). Also i never recieved a contract untill then end when it arrived in the mail asking me to sign it however it was too late, there was too much mucking around and dishonesty for me to continue there. After that i resigned and tried to mail them my uniform and even then i am unsure if it got to them as i was trying to follow up with Australia post who said it was delivered to someone but Trish the lady who handles all that never recieved it. They didn't line up with my vaules of intrgrity, honesty and compassion/ empathy so it is not the place for me and I feel sad and scared for any patients and staff who want quality service or to know people are doing the right thing.

My hospital stay at Sydney Private Hospital was the best hospital stay I have ever had. The staff are efficient and caring, the rooms are nice and it is the most quietest hospitals ever. This whole experience for me has been a very calm and relaxed with leaving me well rested to continue my recovery at home. I would like to thank the staff that looked after me very much. This is how all hospitals should be ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Day surgery staff need to rethink their position at the hospital a group of us waiting for are loved ones were denied access and said to many people after 4 hours i finally saw my brother and the whole group who we knew was still waiting there when we left. At least give us some detailed explanation as to why we are not allowed to see are loved ones who had just been left in recovery and no staff attended to them.

I came in for a day surgery. Staff were polite and in good spirits. It wasn’t a very busy day and the process of admission to surgery was seamless. Had a good post-op recovery. Room was nice and clean. Staff were helpful and always polite. Only oversight was they discharged me before I got to talk to the surgeon but I got a courtesy phone call from him instead. All in all it was a short and good stay.

I couldn't be happier with the care I have received at The Sydney Private Hospital! One of the best hospitals I have visited in a while! All staff is extremely helpful and caring. The ladies at the reception desk attended to my needs straight away. During my stay at the hospital I was blessed with receiving quite a few "get well" gifts from my family and friends. The ladies at the reception brought it up to my room whenever I wasn't able to do so myself.

Have to say I had day surgery in late July of this year at Sydney Private. Nurses were nice as well as Aneathesist Nurse...but after a more recent experience at Canterbury Hospital I would not hesitate to recommend the Public System over a Private Hospital which does not bother to do Pre admin procedures a few wks before the surgery. Also my public hospital experience meant I met my anaethesist at the pre admin day...which eased my nerves somewhat....after experiencing both Private and Public System hospitals...I do not hesitate to recommend the Public System....i think we are lulled into believing private is better because we pay but it does not guarantee quality!

This rating isn't Not for the hospital but for the douglass Hanly moir pathology where I was referred to have my wifes glucose tolerance test done.i called them up 5 times and not once it got picked up but that's ok. I thought they might be busy. So I went there myself as I only live 2 minutes away. Got there and got greeted by a beautiful lady at the front who showed me where to go to get to the pathology without even asking. As I reached the pathology there was not even one patient and both the staffs are busy talking to each other. She then finally came out asked me if she could help me. I wanted to make a booking for a test I said and she asked me for a date.I wasn't sure about the exact date as it had to be done between 26-28 weeks. So I told her if I give you the LMP, would you be able to find it out for me. She just said no and said I need to be sure what day I wanted to book or ask your wife. Didn't even try to call the Doctor to find out or anything. Why would you be a doctor or a nurse if you can't even do that for a patient. As I was referred by Royal Alfred hospital, I imagined they would've had shared some information about the patient but they completely denied that.so,we will get it done with our shared care gp instead who we have been seeing Very very rude. Not even one percent professional.no help to the patients(they need to know everything)

The hospital has a beautiful surroundings, very nice place. I don’t want to write anything negative because I am afraid that this may affect the quality of services I am getting here. I am at present at the rehabilitation centre after my decompression Laminectomy at st. George private on the 27th March 23. I was transferred here on the 5/6 April to a room in a very poor condition with a shared bathroom, it was very unhygienic, not to mention I had to urinate in my paints because the bathroom was engaged. However I was moved to a much better room on the 7th after I complained. I have to chase the uncooperative nursing staff (except a few )for every thing.
