After witnessing the complete lack of respect, ethics and patient care , I'm stunned that this facility has such poorly educated staff. Rather than being a supportive dental health service ( tax payer funded), this facility and it's staff are actually a threat to the health of those attempting to receive dental care. A complete review and overhaul of all staff, some of which should be dismissed.

Dr Shelby could not wait to get me out of there. Really bad experience for me. Never felt more uncomfortable. I am still experiencing pain from my teeth but this dentist could not show any form of interest.

I came here 12:50PM Friday 11/02/2022 to make appointment for my 7-year-old daughter as the dentist referred her to specilist but all the booking staffs (ground flour, after entry and right turn) are not really polite, just want to make everything more and more dicficult for me. The guy sitting near the door of the appointment booking room looks like does not want us come to make appoient and try to express he is the most powerful there. The lady sitting at the middle of the room talking very impolite and dont want to give us any advice or help just threw to us a phone number and ask us to call. We are living in Sydney CBD and I am a single dad we have pension card so I think my daughter is qualify to make a booking here but they dont want to help with very impolite attitude. Same day we came to Women hospital in Rankwick and all the staff there were very nice and helpful even they were more busy. You guys should send all your staff to Women Hospital to learn more about customer service. Very bad!

Mostly a positive experience once you get past the fascists at the front door. Who want to interrogate you. Apart from that the staff are friendly and polite. Good quality care.

The staff (not all) are very harsh with the tones of voice they use with patients and other co workers. It is important for the staff to keep in mind to speak to patients and co workers with respect and some patience. It’s a really tense environment otherwise.

The length to waiting times has improved considerably but the best part was the allocation of my dentist. Very refreshing to see a experienced dentist as my dentist. Fantastic! UPDATE- experienced dentist may be, but it's now 4 months and I'm still waiting for an appointment which was supposed to have been before end of the year or beginning of the year and now it's almost April and haven't heard anything from them..! Meanwhile, I'm losing weight due to not being able to eat as a result of bad fitting of my dentures.

A horrible experience to say the least, I was given a voucher to see a private dentist only to find out I required an oral surgeon through the dental hospital, the next day I gave them a call and the representative I was speaking to advised me to go to level 2 when I get to the hospital as they sent out an email, once I did that the reception advised me no one emailed them - I went back down to level one, waiting a minimum of 2hrs to see someone. I get an appointment for Aug 2nd which was pretty much a month away (at the time) so I did my best to waiting it out and the day before it gets rescheduled to August 24th. Now, an HOUR before my appointment that was already rescheduled, I've been told that once again the clinician is unwell and they actually need to refer me to oral surgery - WHY wasn't this done the first time I attended MONTHS ago? Absolutely unacceptable from the Sydney Dental Hospital. If I receive a third appointment day that is a month away I will be filing a complaint, this is ridiculous that anyone should have to put up with it

I'd never thought that I would say this about a Dentist, but I actually enjoy seeing the Dentists here! They make my appointments calm, by their approach, and take the time to explain to me what they're about to do, every step of the way. All the staff there are friendly and courteous. I've been going here since I was 7yrs old, and I'm 54 now. Obviously the earlier appointments were a bit scary, but I remember they were kind and patient with me. I would like to say to all the staff there, that you are doing a wonderful job, and it doesn't go unappreciated! Thank you for all your kind service over the many years. A.Doolan

The staff (not all) “the guy I was on the phone to” was very harsh with the tones of voice they use with patients wouldn’t let me talk n then was telling me I needed to call another number cause I’m located in Wolli creek It is important for the staff to keep in mind to speak to patients with respect and some patience & let them talk.

The number given for the dental hospital doesn't actually get through to the dental hospital. The only options that the switch gives is cancel a appointment or make a new one. If your issue is anything else they don't want to know

This place took care of me when I was a young teen and I was of the tender age of 16. I used to catch the train and see dr Raj a student doctor. His hands were gentle on my face , and he did not cause any pain on my monthly visits. I was given Braces thanks to Medicare , I did not pay a cent. 3 years of braces I now have a glowing smile and I have been compared to Mel Gibson , in his earlier years. I have now moved on with a beautiful smile. I have attached photos for anyone that’s reading this please put a like and subscribe to my reviews.

Very rude receptionist or whoever picks up phone ..very firey! 🔥 very abrupt..didn't give any chance it was like a debate. She would put you on the spot and then shuts you down . I have never in my life came across this before. Especially this is a government hospital when we want for our young children. Our young generation to have better.

They’re leaving patients in agony for weeks or even years at a time. After being closed for three years they now call multiple times per day to keep rescheduling my appointment. First by a few hours. Then by days. Then it’s put off by weeks. It’s a disorganised farce.

The service is second rate when compared to a private dentist they go out of their way to make sure that everything goes their way they have no interest in saving people's teeth they just want to pull them out of they can and then leaving without away date I can't recommend this place not compared to private dentist

Always good work. However it’s a pity they never keep any appointment on time, ever. Been here 6 times with my child this year and every single time there has been aprox half an hour wait past the appointment time. Why don’t they put their appointments back half an hour ? Not rocket science. Or maybe that’s the acceptable standard of service here. A pity because the doctors are very good in my experience.

1* star not for dentists but at the experience Do not go there if you don't have: - Dental/Health Insurance or Cover - Medicare AND - Citizenship/Permanent Residency because they will send you back despite it being public and government hospital. Exceptions apply if you have swollen or extremely bleeding teeth. You are better off going to your regular dentist than coming here, but I heard they have good dentists and if you tick the requirements above, then do come. Also do not come here at 4.45 PM since they will tell you to come tomorrow and hand you a blue paper, even it says they close at 5 PM. Try to come early as possible.

I had such a good experience with Dr. Mostafa Ahmed. I came with bad pain, pregnant and swollen cheek. The lady on the reception was very nice, she said to go to level 1 and wait when doctor can check everything. It took only 30 minutes to wait. Dr Mostafa Ahmed was very kind and friendly. He explained everything to me, even on the paper showed what was the problem. Then he booked me for surgery in 1,5 weeks. The surgery went super smooth, Dr Mostafa explained all risks and everything ( how to take care after my mouth after surgery). I am really happy with my experience with him. And can highly recommend this amazing person to people. Kristina

Leaving me on phone for over 40 mins to get an app to only book you if you are in extreme pain not if one of their own fillings falls out. Ever since the lock down and Friedenburgs corrupt jobkeeper workers don't give the proper service anywhere now it seems.

My experience today was amazing. I'm so grateful to the staff. My dentist was so incredibly kind, sympathetic and calming. What an amazing young man. Also I disagree wholeheartedly with previous reviews about accessibility and I found all staff including lovely xray tech nursing staff and dentist very sympathetic and caring about my disability.

My daughter and I have high praise for the whole experience with the dental hospital dealing with 9 fillings in my 5 year old granddaughter's mouth. From our first appointment at our local clinic, through to referral to the Dental Hospital, to surgery at Canterbury Hospital, everyone engaged and reassured the initially very nervous child, gave us full, well explained information about procedures, and it was all completed in 4 months, which was a more than pleasant surprise when we had been warned it could be 12 months. Thank you to all concerned at both clinics and hospitals for your professionalism and 'child-friendliness'.

The receptionist was very nice and helpful. I forgot to ask her name. Was helping my grandma book in an appointment to fix her dentures. Due to covid limited availability. Thought I’d have to wait at least a few weeks to get a response. Instead she got back to me within an hour, very efficient to help make arrangements.

I recieved a lot of dental work when I was a teenager an found the staff an dentists professional an helpful.I had a few unusual dental problems which were all well treated an fixed.Unfortunately, bad health an medical problems have resulted in severe gum an tooth decay,so one of these days,I will be going back to have whats left of my teeth fixed. The dental hospital is clean an quite a large building,so its easy to get lost.Surely,in 2020 the up to date facilities an dentists will be doing their best to help patients?

Spoken to rudely as though I knew nothing about my teeth. I'm having further problems from work done by a "proper" dentist, (referral provided by the dental hospital) but I can only have extra work done by contacting the Sydney Dental Hospital - I waited for half an hour as I progressed through the queue, only to be told that my call didn't get through, and I'd have to try again later. If you don't have private health insurance, you're basically treated like scum. This whole system sucks!

Sharon Yang in Paediatric Dentistry is the WORST dentist I have experienced and seen. VERY Impatient to kids (do not know why she is working in Paediatric, which is specially dealing with kids), very rude attitude, feels like she doesn't want to be there. This is my first time writing a google review for my kid, and now he is scared to see a dentist. I know it is a public system, but we are all paying taxes, a little bit of compassion comes a long way. I would have put zero star because of her, but I can't. If you are attending your kid to see this dentist, prepare for the worst.

They are helpful and kind to u. They where always willing to make the appointment suitable for me as I have to travel 6 hours there and back to get to go. They also explain what they are doing so I knew what was going on. Great team and great experience

  • 1/5 Lara W. 4 years ago on Google
In my experience recently nobody knows what they are doing. Going by the other negative reviews here, there is a clear problem. But what do they care, this is a PUBLIC place. They get paid regardless and don’t seem to care if less people turn up, better for them. Some trainee dentists lack common sense, they get patients back repeatedly for treatment in what should have been done in one to two or three sessions max, to come in eight times! We refused. Probably get paid extra to push additional appointments and spread them out. Disgraceful when patients are elderly. I was spoke to three different departments who phoned me, including a head of department they transferred me to themselves, who advised me incorrect details regarding what was happening with treatment. All three told me different things they thought was going on with treatment. VANESSA HUANG was rude and lacks any customer service. I will refuse service from her.

Have braces and have had them for about a year. My Dentist is extremely good at her job but have noticed the assistants that help with prep etc. are really rude, they don't seem to care if they hurt you, they also don't seem to listen or respond when the dentist is asking them for wires/elastics. I had one really bad experience when one of the dental assistants had fallen asleep next to me and my dentist had to do everything herself. Should fix this problem ASAP!

"I have been going to Sydney Dental Hospital in Chalmers St Surry Hills and must say from day 1 all ladies downstairs main foyer were very helpful and the ladies upstairs the same, smiles on their faces, polite and friendly. Dr Ahmed was not just polite and friendly but very professional at explaining to me the different stages before getting dentures both upper and lower. Thank you to Dr Tanya, Dr John and Dr Ahmed's assistant Olga all happy in their work and very attentive to details. How many people can say they had a fun time going to the dentist? Well I did!!! Thank you to everyone and the lab assistants who put the finishing touches on my awesome new teeth.

I've been here a few times over a couple of years. Firstly I would like to thank the dental staff they do go above the standard service. They always make you feel good and always do a great job. However there is one receptionist that could use a few people skills or just a bit of patience, as its a shame if it wasn't for her I couldn't fault it. Kind regards Cassandra Cunningham

Lousy, no respect for the patients, the people who pay these PUBLIC SERVANTS with tax and costs. I let them know I would be a little late, which they agreed to. When I arrived 12mins late I was told I would have to reschedule my appointment until another day... meaning another tedious time to get there by public transport in my wheelchair! I pay taxes, making them answerable to me as their indirect employer! Go to a private bulk billing dentist, not here! ?

I've had some great work here but found the needles given by students very hard to handle . pay if minor a private dentist , major work can cost up to twenty thousand dollars that's when you must take the pain and go here , dentures etc its great as good as most expensive place money can buy , hope this helps you out ... I am not someone who like writing a review, I am the "no comment" type of person.. So yeah it is the second time I am writing a review in my 32yr old life :). The receptionist (the blond young lady) was nice to me, but other receptionist was quite rude and ignorant to another patient, the way she talked was very inpatient, I feel bad for the patient. About the young dentist, there are many dentist (professional and students), some of them are nice and some of them.. How to say it.. Rude if I can say.. I was waiting for 40mins so yeah while waiting and doing nothing I observe and saw the way they treat others. Not all the dentists are bad, some of them are really nice, but the young ones are quite arrogant, but that's normal.. Because maybe they think they are very smart and soon will be a dentist, so like a bird just learned and able to fly, they are quite arrogant, but I believe once they become a professional dentist and own the business, I am sure they will change to be a better person otherwise they won't have a patient and how can they earn money then.. Finally they call me.. And another young dentist quite arrogant as well like another young student dentists..the way they speak, the young student dentists need to learn a manner unfortunately.. The helper was Asian young lady and very rude to me, they way she spoke to me was like talking with a 6yr old boy who is very naughty and never listen. I feel sad actually. But ooh that's okay. My Christian believe taught me to love one another and to forgive and forgive and forgive. I know that it is a free service, but it would be great if they can improve the customer service. It doesn't have to be perfect. Maybe if they have a nice tone and a little bit nice manner, it would be super great.. Maybe because it is free, the patients seem like a beggar. Even with a beggar, I always treat them with respect, I never throw a note or gold coins at them, I gave it to them nicely with food as well. So that's my review. I personally, I just checked but since It is with root canal and Nerf, I will do it in my country since it is cheaper there because I think I will have to wait for a month for my next appointment. The young dentist who checked my teeth was quite good I think, she is confident and seems know well what she is doing but I decided to do the treatment At my country when I visit my family member next month. Thank you. If you don't like my reviews, that's okay, no debate please :)

Always a long waiting list. Utilitarian and functional. Busy and you are rushed in and out within the 30 minutes alloted for your procedure - but beggars can't be choosers: it is a public hospital after all. And they get the job done.

Absolutely terrible experience today (27 July) at Sydney Dental Hospital Level 6 Special Care. “You get what you paid for” and since its free service so obviously you cant expect any better than a one star ! Too bad Google doesnt allow negative rating !! Staff were too busy chit-chatting about patients’ personal circumstances and eating when serving patients (excuse me ladies?! Have you learnt about patient confidentiality at work???) Especially the mid-age receptionist with short blonde and curly hair (wears glasses when on computer she also doesnt wear a badge so I cant see her name - and she was the only one without a badge). She was also terribly rude and the way she talked back at me was absolutely arrogant. Management at Sydney Dental should pay more attention, check the survelliance camera and see if my review is the truth ! What a horrible customer service I have experienced today !!!

Really bad. Id left a domestic violence situation in another state and had a tooth that could have benBsaved. Try kept putting temporary fillings in. When your on a low income dental care means tooth removal. It's an embarrassment. Other states have much better systems than NSW. I have major issues with the way I was treated.

He always has a smile on and very kind to everyone equally. I’ve been going and coming in this hospital for 2 years now and I have never seen a receptionist like him before. Amazing job to Ario

RIP YR TEETH OUT SO THEY CAN CUT COSTS OF FUTURE MAINTAINING THEM. DR JOHN CHU & rest. He'd heard "it all"& couldn't CARE LESS MY outrage and rebukes/questions why he refused to help my tooth//they r dentists who r as TOUGH AS OLD BOOTS. I WAS SITTING there still so young, a lifETIME WITH NO FRONT TOOTH DUE TO THEIR ad hock, reckless, Couldn't Careless procedures. . They ripped 7 teeth out in same.month when I was 26, & I have been walking around with a missing front tooth and them missing for 25 years. They Promised to do a root canal & crown when a stranger on footpath flung his arm.out holding a bottle passing me & knocked my front tooth out, , for 12 YEARS THEY DID GLUE IN TEMPORARY PLAstIC CROWNS WHILE I WAITED, they promised and finally said "there's not enough tooth structure now(suddenlyafter filing it back!!?!!)". They COULD have suggested implants part paid for,, if it suddenly shrunk(!?!) Eighteen years W no front tooth for No Reason. . They are full of sh. Really Bad. They ripped out 7 teeth in one month which itself doesn't make sense I found out later they rip teeth out rather than pay to maintain them through the years. It's a COST SAVING POLICY TO RIP YR TEeTH OUT IF YOURE RELATIVELY YOUNG, UP FRONT. SO WATCH OUT. THEY ALMOST NEVER DO CROWNS, root canals. Six m ago they performed a shonky filling, Really slap-dash, & it came out in a few months, and NOWthey woN't DO ANYTHING FOR ME. NO CROWN, NO ROOT CANAL, NO TREATMENT, NO CLEANING OF BROKEN TOOTH/FILLING, NOTHING. THAT WAY DR JOHN CHU. READ & LEARN.50% R LIKE THIS. TOUGH AS OLD BOOTS dentists ..... THEY THINK ONLY OF RIDDING YR TEETH FOR THEIR FUTURE BUDGET MINIMIZING. And you ppl who keep saying "it's free so I won't care if it's run well it's other hardworking ppl who r paying of the service to be run themselves!! Wake up!! So if they get paid no matter what while U all get shonky fillings like I have so many TIMES, that's daylight robbery by dental hospital! Private dentists have CURSED WHAT THEY DID to my teeth, I had a perfect bite, their uncaring, AD-HOCK SHUNTS AND GLUINGS WITHOUT PROPER ROOT CANALING, HAVE MADE PRIVATE DENTISTS FUME!! WAKE UP IN other COUNTRIES & England the dental care is Perfect while.1 in 2 OR 3 in Australia all wander round like toothless FOOLS!!! Say something!! Austrailia stand Up For Yourselves like other countries have had to do for hundreds yrss!!
