just called the Birthing Centre information desk and was met with the RUDEST women of all time. Way to make a first time mum feel like a pile of trash. A few lessons in customer service and a small dose of empathy would go far.

Whilst the staff are lovely, the care I received during pregnancy and birth were shocking. From not being allowed to go to my appointments, to not having the correct information given, every appointment was the exact same five minute speech that I heard from my first initial appointment every single time I’ve waited three hours+ for said appointment, to being laughed at by one of the midwives/ Doctors when my personal OB and GP suggested I needed a caesarean because of my GDM and my child weighing in two weeks a head in size, important details that could have been found of my child’s current condition via ultrasound. When it came to the day of delivery, at the 21 hour mark of labour we were left alone for seven hours and no one came to check on us, which resulted in an emergency caesarean were I sustained a bilateral uterine tear. I was looked after better three week postpartum when I came back to their unit with an uterine infection. I know they have brilliant midwives and Doctors, I can understand that they may be understaffed — but I think you guys need to give yourselves the opportunity to do better, become more organised, especially when it comes to first time Mothers (such as myself). Pregnancy is scary enough, even more so when you aren’t being cared for correctly.

First time mum here. Went into labour and called them 3 times, each time they told me I “didn’t sound like I was in established labour” and said I shouldn’t come in cause I would be sent home. I eventually started pushing at home so I went to the hospital against their advice - turned out I was 10cm when I arrived. No time for any pain relief or bath. After the birth I was left in the delivery room for 6 hours and the left to take a shower on my own (midwife left the room) where I nearly fainted because of the pain and clots I was passing. Was then left alone with my baby overnight when I could barely get out bed. Took the midwife’s up to 20 mins to respond to my calls. Had PTSD for about 2 weeks because my baby cried so much that night. Not the experience I was hoping for.

We were in the catchment so RPA ended being our hospital but I decided to give them a review for our experience. The midwives who answers my wife's call on certain issues she may have have always been useful and was patient throughout the pregnancy. Once we made a booking for expected delivery it was really easy when we did have to go to delivery. Dilation was 4 when we arrived in the morning which was lucky as we were admitted right away without much of a wait. We got our own delivery room which was awesome as it would be annoying sharing the experience with someone else. The nurses there were great, knowing exactly when get my wife to breathe, contract a little or a lot, and offering plenty of support throughout the delivery. Once baby was delivered, we were to stay for another couple of hours. We had to meet with the paediatric doctor afterwards to be put into a machine to run some tests which seems fine. Once we got our own room for our stay which we were able to get via private health it got interesting. We must had meet over 14 nurses in our week there. Most were good, but the annoying thing were that we were given so many different advices. The nurses there were really pro breast feeding which isn't any issue until it was 33 hours after birth before our kid even got any feed, which was formula anyway. If we had our time again we would had given him his feed much earlier as he suffered a development setback due to sleeping much of the first week away. He was able to progress when got him home. He was also in the nursery for 24/7 observations which didn't really help either as they were mainly just forcing baby to breastfeed. I would say give this a miss if it's related to latching and get home and to a clinic to help you out whilst still using formula. Overall, I would listen to the nurses to an extent, but if you're baby is not able to sufficient latch I would only wait for the first six hours max before going on to formula. You can always express milk, but missing feeds risk not being able to meet milestones as they don't have energy.

Loved my birth experience at this hospital. Rowena is an absolute treasure to this hospital and for indigenous families. I changed from the royal after a horrible experience there at 20 weeks. Loved all the doctors here, always felt heard and safe. Our baby was checked the same day if they ever felt something was off. My cesarean was amazing and felt so well by the end of the first week. Don’t have enough nice things to say about the whole experience!

We just had our first baby at RPA hospital; we didn’t expect too much, but the experience at the birth centre had exceeded our expectations. The team, midwives and doctors, were friendly and approachable. I can feel passion and knowledge oozing from the staff at RPA, who were committed to providing exceptional service and extraordinary customer care. A standout midwife I believe RPA is lucky to have is Deborah Balzan. She was professional, lovely to deal with, and I loved that she is so passionate about the profession. Left with more knowledge and wiser as a result; thank you RPA!

I had the best delivery experience. My delivery doctor & Nurse was very kind as well as all the midwives that took care in the ward and home call Service. The compassion they have for a new mother is so great. I couldnt have my family with me because of covid and they supported and took such good care of me and my baby. I thank all of them with all my heart. Shame I dnt remember their names but I would recommend everyone to go to RPA for birth😊.

They are negligent and never micro-check the baby's condition before going to the labour room. Even when giving birth, only one midwife gave birth with her arms crossed She did nothing just keep saying "Push when you feel contruction" They're attitude was so bad and rude. Extremely arrogant.

My wife made a great choice when choosing to birth here. We had friendly and knowledgeable midwives throughout the whole pregnancy. They were so supportive during the birth of our daughter and then the post-natal follow-ups with the midwives has been perfect. Highly recommend the Birth Centre to any expecting parents.

RPA deserves more than the current 3.7 star rating. As a very nervous first time mum, I had a positive birthing experience here just because of the staff. All the midwives and doctors were so kind, caring, friendly and knowledgeable. I felt like I was being well looked after from start to finish. I would definitely come back to RPA again if I were to have a second baby. Can’t thank the staff enough!!

I had such a smooth and positive experience at RPA. I had my first child at a private hospital so I had very low expectations with the public system. However, I can confidently say my experience at RPA was very positive. I never had to wait for the midwife appointments, food was surprisingly good and I received such good care for the 2 nights I was there. All the staff members were awesome but I would especially like to thank midwife Mel T for being so patient, caring and informative at each appointment, the birthing team - Emily (?) and the 3rd year student nurse who was so supportive during labour and to midwife Jenny who knew what I needed each time I buzzed the call button in the hours of 12-5am.

5 stars to all the teams at RPA. I was so nervous about labour and delivery in the lead up to heading in, but all the staff are so well trained, compassionate and caring that quickly subsided. From the first few calls to delivery ward for advice on early labour and when to head in all the way through to birth and recovery, each and every staff member was patient, experienced and kind. A special thanks to Roslyn, Hannah and Jordan for helping me deliver my bub and to all the doctors as well. I cant fault the system at all. They were busy but ever so attentive and patient with me. A very positive birth experience with an amazing team. Thank you all for your hard work!

The Midwives and who brought my child into this world were amazing, and the Doctors and Nurses who performed surgery on my partner after her birth were incredible, the care they both received during and after I will be forever grateful for. My only issue is with the “inclusion” during the 6 week birthing course, they called Mothers “birthing people” over and over again, is it just a matter of time before the Women and Babies wing becomes the Birthing and Birthed person wing? I understand it’s good to be inclusive, but merely 1 in 50,000 women who give birth in Australia each year don’t identify as a woman, so it feels like being inclusive to that 1 person excludes the 49,999 mums who do the course, and confuses the Midwife/Midperson who’s teaching all of us Birthing People and Ejaculators (dads). But I suppose HR have to make some use of themselves, anyway, thanks for looking after my family, you beautiful, beautiful people, nothing but love for you all.

Absolutely incredible what they do there, I delivered my baby in the delivery ward with Lucy and Amy and I could not have asked for a better experience. The support from Lorna in birthing centre and Christie who has immersive knowledge guided me along the way. I could not have asked for a better birth. Karen came to do our house visits after and is so well informed and caring. Amazing! Thank you all so much for what you do for us, much appreciated. Keisha, Daniel and baby x

I've only had three encounters so far with RPA through the birth centre. Just wanted to say that your covid screening staff/check-in staff, both sets of receptions, and midwives (Monica and Lizzie so far) have been supportive and professional when rules have been changing quickly. It's not an easy time (and it hasn't been easy over the last years), but your efforts are very much appreciated. I feel I am in very good hands.

On Sunday 08/01/2023 I was induced and my beautiful baby boy was born on 09/01/2023, I cannot thank the midwives and nurses enough! They were absolutely incredible, compassionate and understanding. I felt so well cared for and comfortable during my 4 day stay. I really commend the hard work, and passion that the staff have when taking care of the women and babies. I am forever great full and I hope that they all know how amazing they are. Couldn't have don't it without them. Thank you so very much. Xoxo

Came in at 7:45Am for an ultrasound. We have already waited for more than 3 hours and no progress at all. I am not sure how long should we wait until someone look after us. Not a good experience for us who came her for the first time.
