At my recent short stay at Chris O'brien Lifehouse I was cared for by some amazing nurses and doctors, they truely made an overwhelming scary experience one of lots of hope and love. Everyone was so genuine in wishing me well on my cancer journey. I cannot praise them enough. The hospital itself was amazing, so light and airy and it seemed to have a positive vibe about it.

I found the experience terrific (we were from the country) All staff, nurses, managers, physios, kitchen & cleaning staff were amazing. My room was tops. Single room, own bathroom & a view Its a 1st class facility Many many thanks for looking after me so well

The doctor and nurses are great and gave the best service they could; however, the customer service reps that I gave my complaint about were really not professional and made my stomach churn. I arrived for my procedure as instructed. After I underwent the surgery, I was sent into the recovery room, which is where the nightmare began. The nurse besides me tried to admit me into the ward, but the ward nurses were not prepared yet; they kept telling me and the recovery nurse to wait another 15 minutes, which turned into 3 hours of waiting time. While I was waiting, I was in and out of consciousness, and the other nurses were chatting and giggling loudly next to my bed. It was an empty recovery room with me inside as a patient. Finally I arrived at the ward, and the nurse gave me food. But the food was expired. At dinner time, Staff came in and asked whether I had prebooked the meal. I told the staff that no one had told me or asked me anything about the meal. Confused and hungry, I waited more than an hour for them to scrape together something for my meal. Being a private patient, I was expecting to be put into a private ward (I checked Medibank for private patient cover), and when I asked about it, the nurse said they were currently full and the nurse that contacted me the previous day should inform me I would be admitted into a shared ward. Being a light sleeper and having just undergone surgery, I can barely sleep with my roommate making noises and watching TV until 12 a.m. when i finally discharged from the hospital,I tried to give feedback.the customer reps called back and started blasting me, saying they have no obligation to provide me with a private room, The waiting time is out of their hands, and the food was not expired; they just labelled it wrong. This has never happened before. apologise for the food being "mislabelled" (I wonder how many times this was used to dismiss patients who had expired food). Anyway, for future patients, lower your expectations for your visit.

Thank you to all the attentive staff that helped me before and after my surgery. Post op the nurses called my partner to provide updates to and assured him on the progress of my recovery. The hospital has a tranquil ambience with modern furnishings. I was thoroughly impressed with the technology which allowed to me to use the touch screen to select my meals and select my entertainment. Amenities were clean and well kept. All nurses were very caring and attentive. Unfortunately I have to have another surgery but I am no longer anxious as I know I will be in good hands.

I have just had a day procedure. As you can imagine, I was really worried, but I felt quite at ease as soon I stepped into the centre - there is an air of lightness. The posters of the late Prof O'Brien almost brought tears to my eyes. The nurses are lovely and A/Prof Payal Saxena is amazing (gentle and yet proficient, including a well written report). Thank you so much everyone and my love to Gail O'Brien.

I was recently diagnosed with Breast cancer and was operated upon by Professor Sanjay Warrier. What a gem of a human he is ! I feel so fortunate to be in his care. A BIG Thank you to Sanjay and his team. Right from the first appointment itself,Sanjay’s knowledge, his style of explaining and the techniques made me feel confident that I am in the right hands. I am really happy that I chose LifeHouse (which was the second option)over the available options.

It was an emotional and stressful morning transporting my 94 year old immobile, confused, mum in for her operation. Before our arrival everything that could go wrong did.. Then everything changed and I was reduced to tears again by the sheer care, compassion and professional ism shown by every one of the amazing admin, doctors and nursing staff I dealt with.. everything went like clockwork.. I am so grateful and if you are admitted to this hospital - I know you will feel as I do.. Thankyou ❤️

I was asked to fast from 10pm the previous day and present to the day procedure centre at 8.45am I has to wait till noon before being taken into theatres. No water for 14 hours and sitting around for over 3 hours. The Day procedure centre seems to be rather disorganised and although I got a text message on Friday saying I had to pay $500 but when I went to check in was informed I had to pay $750. Given a choice, I would not return to Lifehouse for treatment, because the place is so disorganised.

My mum was a regular patient at Chris o Brian life house since 3.5 years ago, and was admitted 3 weeks ago. She received the kind of care I didn’t even know existed in Australia. I have deep respect and admiration for the nurses who supported my mother day and night, especially Professor Peter Grimison and team who went above and beyond to care for her during the those years. Everyone knows this institution to be the best you can find and I couldn’t agree more.

Just a great place with staff who care and make you feel as special. They worked through the last 2 years with covid and every other thing going on. They still did their work dealing with their patients treatment. We can never thank them enough.

I recently had a DIEP flap procedure at Chris O’Brien Lifehouse, which is a pretty major surgery with a significant recovery period. I was nervous about the expected pain and the effects of the anaesthetic. I spent a week in hospital under the care of some absolutely amazing nurses. They never made me feel bad for asking for extra help or ‘buzzing them’ frequently through the night or guilty for asking for more pain relief. They were an absolute delight and seemed to have endless understanding, patience and compassion. They also supported and respected my husband who was doing his best to navigate it all. It was both lovely and interesting to see one of the more experienced nurses teaching the nursing students about the right and wrong way of performing various procedures in my post-surgical care. I even received a visit from one of the Chris O’Brien executive staff, who was checking in to see that I was happy with their care (not the usual experience at a large hospital!). Thank you to all the doctors and nurses and to the nice man who made me a delicious banana milkshake! You made a difficult time much less difficult!

My sister had a liver resection at Lifehouse. A huge thank you to all the wonderful surgical team, nursing staff and ancillary workers who were so understanding and highly professional. The facilities and standard of care were superb and gave us total confidence. A special thank to Dr Sandroussi and his team.

My experience at Chris O’Brien Lifehouse has been very positive, not only because of the outcome but because of the excellent care that I was given. Dr. Pather, Dr. Lin and all the supporting staff have been professional, sensitive, caring and reassuring throughout my ordeal. This was my second trip with cancer and hopefully my last. If I unfortunately have a recurrence I would not hesitate to again seek assistance from these wonderful medical professionals.

My wife Cathy Hamilton was diagnosed with metastatic lung cancer in July. She was under the care of Professor Boyer. At the outset we were aware that given her diagnosis and the type of disease process that the outlook and prognosis was poor and unpredictable. I remember a quote during the first video conference when we were told that reactions to chemotherapy and immunotherapy vary and that quote “some 20 somethings don’t do well while some 70 somethings tolerate the treatments reasonably well. “ Cathy underwent the first cycle of treatment and barely 2-3 days later she was in extremis. She spent a week in ICU with pleural effusion and a cascade of problems which required diligent and highly trained capable liaison between specialists and care from the doctors and nurses in ICU. I cannot speak highly enough of the doctors and nurses in ICU. They were wonderful people and accomplished professionals. She then spent almost 2 weeks on the ward gradually recouping until it was thought that it was appropriate to come home to regather her strength and improve her clinical profile before a second cycle of treatment. After a week at home her blood count along with a fracture of the L hip did not enable the 2nd round to occur. Cathy now has a couple of days to live. I am obviously upset at the turn of events and aware of the volatile and unpredictable nature of treating this type of cancer. What I am underwhelmed with is that we were not informed of the potential complications of the first cycle of treatment other than loss of hair etc and we are not Dr Google people. I am also unimpressed with the final video consult during which the gravity of the situation was explained clearly - 2nd cycle not recommended - unless blood count improved which was dispatched in a detached, monotonal manner devoid of humanity. My 4th year medical student son who was present was appalled. The liaison nurse for Professor Boyer was also curt, robot like and abrasive to communicate with and we dreaded our interaction with her. As a university educator and a person who has trained thousands of students in areas of interpersonal communication over the course of decades, I was and remain disappointed and frankly disgusted with the lack of common courtesy, civility and humanity provided to my wife. Plain speaking does not exclude looking through the eye of pity and acknowledgment of the human condition. Thank you to the ICU doctors and nurses, especially the Irish ladies. You obviously understand.

I was a frequent visitor to a friend on level 8 during the past week. I observed professional competent compassionate staff who interacted at all levels. To hear the laughter of staff at work was music to my ears. It isn't common in nursing work places any more. What a beautiful hospital with a great ethos. Everyone greets you warmly and with a smile. I thank you.

Amazing pre op and post op staff. Very kind, polite, friendly and funny. Very attentive and caring. The hospital staff, nurses and doctor's are the best of the best. Their willingness to assist and care for me in my most vulnerable state after the operation is simply amazing. I don't know how else to thank them and the Chris O'Brien Life House enough. Thank you again.

This is a fantastic hospital run by a team of enthusiastic nurses and medical professionals. I had my treatment there last September and can not thank the team enough for the high standard of services received. Especially the day clinic nurses whose hard work and dedication goes beyond their duty of care.

Due to my condition I visit the Chris O’Brien lifehouse every 6 months. Without a doubt, every time I visit I am met with kind, patient, professional and just overall exceptional staff. From the nurses to the doctors, the service is always fantastic even when busy. In the unfortunate circumstances that you must visit a hospital, this place is fantastic.

The vision behind this fabulous centre is one of treating the whole person. Not only the doctors and the nurses, but all the ancillary staff make attendance at this facility an experience. My personal favourite was the gentleman playing grand piano in the foyer while onlookers joined in and sang. I had a smile when turning up for treatment and saw "Day Therapy" above the door. And it's true.... this place almost made me look forward to turning up for chemotherapy.

This Cancer Care Hospital and research center in Sydney holds immense significance, offering its services entirely free to patients with Australian Medicare. The staff is exceptionally cooperative, and the doctors exude warmth and kindness. The hospital boasts a remarkable ambience, situated strategically at the heart of Sydney, nestled amidst Newtown, Leichhardt, Glebe, and Chippendale. It's conveniently accessible with two public bus stops nearby and even runs its own shuttle service from Central station. Its location, opposite the renowned Royal Prince Alfred Hospital, underscores its prominence within Sydney's medical landscape. Within its walls, you'll discover world-class facilities, including state-of-the-art equipment and top-notch care in the indoor and operating theaters. I had the privilege of undergoing a day procedure, an experience characterized by serenity and comfort. The hospital's thoughtful amenities include a second-floor outdoor area for coffee and tea, alongside ultramodern, self-operated mobile phone charging lockers. These lockers offer peace of mind, allowing you to securely charge your phone while you wait. Additionally, there are delightful gifts such as Woolen Binnie and books filled with puzzles to help pass the time. On the ground floor, a piano awaits anyone with musical inclinations, while dedicated volunteers serenade the entry foyer with soothing melodies, brightening the spirits of patients and visitors alike. The hospital's commitment to patient care extends to a team of helpful volunteers who provide guidance and support throughout your visit. There's a pharmacy on-site, though I must admit to a less-than-ideal experience with their pricing policies, which did not extend the expected concessions to patients with cards. Despite offering installment payments for those with fewer resources, I found their pharmacy policy lacking. In retrospect, it would have been more convenient if my doctor had provided me with a prescription, enabling me to choose a chemist shop that aligned better with my financial preferences.

Unbelievable sham of medicine. A corporate cut out of healthcare. Huge wait times for appointments. Inept reception staff, very difficult to contact. Difficult to recieve and track financial reimbursement. Useless at integrating information from other hospitals, including scans, bloodtest results, and notes from primary carers. Absolutely no integration of treatment teams. Disappointed. Good experience with pharmacist, helpful and informative.

Life is taking an unexpected twist for me, and having to go to hospitals would really never be a pleasant experience for anyone. However, the outstanding professionalism, enthusiasm and natural humour of Prof Selvan Pather and Dr Huan (Echo) Xie (as well as the very good patience of reception staff) do truly 'cushion' me during this somewhat anxious time. After speaking to Prof Pather and Dr Xie after my last 2 visits/calls, I am literally reminded of my own childhood dream to become somebody of influence and authority (just like them) to help others in need. Even though for now, I am that person who is in need... and God help me to improve my health in the next few months.

I’ve recently had treatment and surgery with Professor Pather at Chris O’Brien and was amazed at the calibre of the staff and the facilities. They were attentive and compassionate. During this scary and unsettling period, Professor Pather made sure that I was kept informed and in the lead up to my surgery made sure I was as comfortable as possible- even cracked a few good jokes before being wheeled into surgery! Thank you!

Thank you once again to Chris O’Brien Life house, where I have had in total 4 surgeries and one of them went for 9 and half hours lead by the Brilliant Surgeon A/ Professor Selvan Pather Dr Nari Ahmadi and Dr Peter Lee in 2020 Today I underwent a procedure under the care of Dr Peter Lee, his kindness, excellent professionalism, care, and patience with me was outstanding and I am very grateful (I’m a bundle of nerves). I would also like to thank Anaesthetist, Dr Ian Sherrat who emulated the same person-centered care as Dr Peter Lee. Also, a very big thank you to the beautiful Nurse Pollyanna Level 3-day surgery, who emanated a sense of hope to me through her words of kindness before and after my surgery. Thank you again Chris O’Brian Life House, A little bit of heaven on earth. Much Love Tanya xxx

Have had mostly great experiences here despite difficult times. Only tiniest bit of a gripe when I once waited for 2 hours (past 6pm) because day treatments forgot about me (I was "in another appointment folder") and the nurse who cared for me left early. Or I can tell who the new unexperienced nurses are when they smash the needle in, not aware there is a painless method to subcuts. Beyond the rare issues, the specialists are amazing and you definitely know that they take care to the next level.

I had the recent experience of needing medical treatment (surgery) on a suspect thyroid gland. I found the quality of care was outstanding with all COVID-19 safeguards and protocols in place and well respected. The facility is outstanding, both from a patient point of view and for the staff who are commonly overlooked in these surroundings, and the level of nursing care is excellent. Well done on building design and quality of care to the Chris O’Brien Lifehouse. He would be proud.
