I always thought that the "PCYC" was for people who loved children and had the mandatory obligation to protect children from harm, to respect their dignity and to protect and safeguard children, To teach children to harness there abilities and teach reflective thinking, to encourage positivity and community unification. Unfortunately I walk away from the Marrickville Centre with a heavy heart, as I saw my 2 year old be yelled at & screamed at for licking a icypole. The icypole that was purchased from the front desk. the very icypole that staff members have helped him week after week open and help him eat. TODAY, unfortunately..."MARVEN" a basketball coach became irate when he saw my 2 year old eat the -PETERS lifesaver ICYPOLE, screaming at him, NO FOOD ON THE COURT-NO FOOD ON THE COURT, each time he got louder and louder. To the point that he left his coaching duties to came up to me and we were practically nose to nose. He became almost psychotic, at this point in my face screaming NO FOOD ON THE COURT, other staff members quickly intervened as he was at this point screaming right in my face, NO FOOD ON THE COURT. He then just walked off, and abandoned the kids he was coaching. Firstly, do the staff get drug tested? Secondly, are mental health checks carried out on these people that parents entrust with there children? After "MARVENS" psychotic episode I doubt it. For a person to get so enraged at seeing a 2 year old licking a iceblock is very disconcerting. I think Upper management needs to re-assess selling iceblocks and water at the MARRICKVILLE CENTRE as I hate to see "MARVENS" reaction to spilt water (HE WOULD BECOME HOMICIDAL) -PETERS- lifesaver icy pole, you didnt live up to your name today...we really needed a 'LIFE SAVER" against "MARVIN" who couldn't control his temper in front of children. MARVEN, I suggest you seek medical help for your temper. Please keep away from children until you have your mental health looked at by a professional. I will be seeking a sit down meeting with upper management. #KEEP-OUR-KIDS-SAFE #NO-VIOLENCE-TOWARDS-WOMAN&CHILDREN #STOP-BULLY-BEHAVIOR #STOP-THE-CYCLE-OF-ABUSE-TOWARDS-WOMAN #INTERNATIONAL-WOMANS-DAY #SAY-NO-TO-DRUGS #MENTAL-HEALTHMATTERS #SUSPEND_MARVEN-UNTILL-DRUGTESTED-AND-ASSESSED-BY-PSYCOLOGIST #KEEP-OUR-KIDS-SAFE I want to make it clear that I never said that Marven put his hands on me, abuse of woman is not just physical. He verbally abused me. by yelling in my face, and getting into my personal space. To clarify, when he started yelling no food on the court, i didnt realise he was talking to me? because i didnt consider an iceblock food, it was only after the 3rd or fourth NO FOOD ON THE COURT did i realise he was talking about my sons ice-block. I then said, why do you sell this if its not allowed? he just kept saying, no food on the court, I could see that there was something wrong with him, and i didn't want to interact with him, so i just went to get my belongings to leave, i walked away from him to go get my belongings which totally enraged him, and he continued screaming NO FOOD ON THE COURT at the top of his lungs, once i got to the other side of the hall and everyone could still hear him screaming no food on the court, I SAID SAY IT LOUDER! A LITTLE BIT LOUDER...thats when he totally lost it and left the court to get in my face...at this point there was a young guy who came to my aid, i walked out to the reception area and asked the young girl why she keeps selling me these iceblocks week after week if we cant eat them? At that point Marven was behind the counter and started screaming at me again. Im more than happy for the PCYC to release the footage from beginning to end. i got there at 4:30 and left at 6:30 my son ate 4 iceblocks and it was when we purchased the last one that Marven flew into a fit. RELEASE THE FOOTAGE!

I called up and politely asked if the courts were free and got a response after a 5 second pause and with the enthusiasm of a slug with the reply ‘after 3pm ‘ I replied ok thank you and he just hung up . I bet if I was standing in front of you your energy would be different. If you hate that job just leave and give it to someone that is polite and wants to work there you grub. Oh yea just so you know if I’m talking about you I called on the 7th of jan.

Possibly the worst basketball competition I have ever been a part of. I have been playing social basketball for 20 years and Marrickville PCYC takes the cake for: - Worst non-attentive staff - Shorter games - No stoppage of the clock in the last minute Extremely harsh suspensions for doing next to nothing wrong - My team had a player get 10 weeks suspension for just being part of our team. Literally no other explanation. After fighting the accusations and sanctions given, they finally realised their mistake by recalling the suspensions, but it took multiple calls and emails from players pleading for due process and some sort of tribunal. After 2 weeks of forfeiting we had to choose to pull out of the competition with no refund at all after paying for the entire season in advance. Don't even bother trying to talk to "Jordan" who looks after the competition. He's clearly volunteering as he just doesn't care at all. Word of advice for anyone wanting to enter the social competition regardless of skill level - FIND ANOTHER COMPETITION.. Absolute disgrace... We're still trying to fight for our money back. Don't pay in advance as they will use that against you.

This indoor facility has stepped up after its renovation. The home for basketball, futsal, volleyball and just to hangout. The cafe service is good but if your in a rush you might have to wait a little. You can watch from upstairs, inside or get a view from the cafe, the sound proofing windows makes it better to watch if too much screaming is not your thing. Although if you are watching from upstairs make sure they’ve opened it. A bit silly to lock it when the view is much better from upstairs. There’s not much parking spaces in the car park area when there’s a big competition so try the side street, the street across the road (on the hill) or out in the front. The front parking is great but whenever you get back to your vehicle 100% guarantee it will have tweets or some rubbish from the trees (I’ve parked there during different season’s and it’s all the same). It has a good wheelchair access on the side too. Good luck

Marvin sold us a year worth of membership, although we only wanted to come play social badminton once. We came back with friends after new years, of course there are no more social badminton sessions we can join. The other, younger staff only just said nothing can be done, no apologies or anything. Dodgy liars! I saw the below posts about staff abusing children as well. Don't go near this place!

The basketball courts are ridiculously SLIPPERY, when I spoke to the staff about cleaning / resurfacing the courts they said the issue had already been brought up hundreds of times with management and there's no chance anything will done. Playing on a court full of dust is not fun, not to mention it's also a big risk of injuries.

The basketball courts are dangerously slippery and in dire need of resurfacing. Multiple players injured at today's rep game. Can't believe we were charged $8 to watch our kids slip and slide around the court. Someone is going to get seriously injured there soon.

I really like this place! My kid has been doing basketball training here for over a year. It’s very big and echo-y so it must be tough on people with auditory issues - but it has really good community spirit! They also run free food for the local community which is lovely to see through tough times.

As a student in Marrickville Marauders for a couple of months, I would like to say that it's amazing. Shout out to Garry Huang to mka teachings more intensive and Jess for the private lessons, Kai for being Kai and Noel for being greatest man alive.

Wanna put a grievance on one of the referee called Brodie (guy with a long beard) he is extremely biased towards the home team (Game is on 7th of May 2023 verses Hornsby Spider). Played reps for many years but never seen a referee talking to the other team with smile on his face at half time. Called my team an unsportsmanlike foul when the home court player grabbing our players’ shirt. Ignoring out of bounds. PCYC is a state-wide site for people to access, it is not a private gym or something like that. Unfair calls should not be happening at there as it will greatly affected our local people’s trust and your own business’s image. Management should be better!😀

School Holiday Programs - Marrickville branch – suggestions for Improvement: - Starting of school holidays programs on time instead of 35 minutes later. - 'Multisport' day program was about only one sport (badminton). My child was very disappointed, no even basketball that day. - A male coach drinking energy drinks while the day program is starting and talking to the children. - Couch (responsible person) and helpers looking their phone while the program is occurring and waiting for balls being inflated. Basque balls should be ready for the day program well in advance. - Include in the program 'watching TV', So parents can decide if this seat well with families. My child wasn't enrolled to watch tv after 2:15 pm. It was not mentioned anywhere in the enrolment papers that TV was part of the program 9 am - 3 pm. - I was given the "too difficult" answer when I inquired about managing children expectation on the day. Big red flag here!

Courts are pretty dusty, can get super hot, don't think there's aircon, toilets are a bit unclean and under maintained.

expensive court rent, always with a problem and you are forced to become a partner and pay $20 annually

The service team does not know how to communicate to customers for booking a basketball court. I asked to book a court at a time given by the employee over the phone. I was told to leave no name and when I arrived at that designated time it was already booked out. The other employee was unable to do anything and I and others who we’re supposedly to play were to stand out to wait for the court until a later time.

The staff there are extremely helpful and attentive. Specifically I found Jordan to be exceptionally helpful in handling all relevant matters in regards to information about the club. Would highly recommend this PCYC to anyone who was interested in joining up. 5/5

I’m sadden to read this experience. Yes sometimes situations happen which could have been dealt with differently. But we are all human. I don’t know exactly what happened in this particular one, what I do know for sure is that I am a regularly user along with my kids and extended family of this centre and have not once experienced a negative one. The staff there are professional, happy and engaging. I’ve always felt extremely safe there and are happy for my kids to attend anytime they wish. The police officer there who unfortunately don’t know her name has the most infectious smile and has gone out of her way to help me and my kids with the smallest things. Even one day dancing with my eldest because a song was being played he liked. Another time she walked me to the car because it was raining and I had my baby in my arms with no umbrella. That there is what life is about and we need more people like this woman. My kids now want to be a police officer because of her. Little does she know her impact. I would imagine the situation is being dealt with and investigated so I think it’s best we let them do their jobs. I do hope this matter gets sorted and the centre continues on doing great things with the community.

Great, just for indoor football but there has to be the facility of the score board aswell, I don’t know if they have it but it’s not being used. But the staffs are friendly & attentive.

😠 Be there very early or very late or it's like mother Ganges in heat wave. Majority of lanes are reserved for lessons and recreational swimmers must share 4-5 people per lane. Steam and sauna are great. Fix the congestion/overlay of swim classes!
