Don't stay here, it's feral. I wouldn't even give it a 1 star. My initial greeting was rude and the pictures of my private room were incredibly deceiving. I had to share a dirty bathroom with multiple guests, not just one other room as it says on the site. Also there was a man in the woman's bathroom. Don't stay here, I paid $225 a night for a cell block with no open window and now I'm in a hotel around the corner for $179 a night with floor to ceiling windows, my own kitchen, bathroom and laundry. Don't stay here!!! I wish I could get my money back. Very disappointing

My girlfriend and I booked a room last minute as we were to tired to travel hours home… we were driving around at 11pm at night for 2 hours trying to get a park to be able to stay in this hotel. We had never been to Sydney by ourselves which made this a very stressful and traumatic experience for us causing us to have to book at another hotel where parking wasn’t available but helped us find a park as they were understanding and welcoming to guests… during this time of trying to find a park for this terrible hotel we tried to call for assistance but they didn’t help nor care about our situation and also not giving us a refund when telling them about our experience… this was a terrible experience and I hope when people see this they don’t go there as there are many other nice places to stay where you have great service and help from the hotels…

Great location in Sydney. The city is very walkable and there is a metro station nearby. We were there on a Friday night, with Taylor Swift in town. You might imagine that it was a little noisy late into the night. All in all, not a bad experience.

There's a pub next to it that won't let you sleep. Somebody stole from us inside the hostel and the staff didn't even mind. The laundry is not working, nor the lift, nor half of the kitchen equipment. There are no forks or glasses in the kitchen, the cleaning service is no good. There are light cuts and most of the lights in our room didn't work. When you do the check in nobody tells you the rules or the important things. And I saw a lot of cockroaches. So ye, pretty bad.

It’s filthy, old and not fit for purpose. Location great, staff all very friendly but they need to open their eyes and tidy up. Everything from the bag storage room to bathrooms and rooms are bad. About as close to a crack den functioning as a business can get. I get this is a backpackers but even they deserve standards. After weeks travelling around at campsites this was a last stop over before jumping on the plane home. There was more wildlife on show here than in the deepest bush areas. Showers on our floor all broken, not cleaned once in 18 hours we were checked in there, door locked but had about 5cm of movement and multiple bodge fixes where break ins (I assume) have been fixed up, badly. Buildings air duct system howled in our room all night, ear plugs were welcome. Mattress, genuinely saw a homeless guy outside sleeping on something that looked in better condition, hallways stunk, the only place that didn’t stink or had any kind of tidy Ed’s and order was reception. It’s laughably bad, even for a backpackers. Can’t really say anything bad about staff interactions, they’re all lovely but someone should be in charge of that s$$tshow.

Arrived at night and went straight to bed. No admin issues. Rooms and Toilets were basic as expected. 5 stars as I paid 30 dollars for the night. TIP#1 Bring your own lock to use the lockers in the room. TIP#2 you will need a smart phone with your AT ALL TIMES as you will be using your phone to unlock doors via Bluetooth.

One of the worst hostels I've ever stayed at. Reception is not friendly or welcoming. Rooms are dirty. Wifi is weak and cuts in and out. Their bar downstairs is awful. They try to push you to go to their bar every day, even when you ask for recommendations of other restaurants or parties. Like yes, I understand you have your own bar and want business there, but guests want to experience other places to. Only thing good is the location. But there's other hostels that have a good location and much better staff and accommodation.

Defenetly the worst hostel I have ever been to, the toilets often had no toilet paper, the kitchen was worse then I could have ever imagined, even insects were crawling around, oh and there no possibility to charge your phone next to your bed. AND it is a hostel where alcohol is forbidden, just incase you care about that Just incase you wonder the vast majority of the plates and forges and knifes and pots/pans on the picture aren't cleaned and I never saw a staff member cleaning them...

Not clean. No fully furniture kitchen, some day there are no forks. There are cockroaches. Someone stole us something from the fridge, there are cameras watching the place and the crew did nothing to find out who did it, even worst they told us look for the police because there was the only way to look at the cameras. One day there was no power in the room. Other day lift didn’t work. From Wednesday to Saturday there is a bar next to the hostel which won’t let you sleep because the sound. Water from the shower wasn’t always warm. Some light of the bedroom didn’t work or simply there weren’t. Not recommended.

Nice staff but the rest is lacking. The music from the bar next door is way too loud, no laundry available. The internet is horrible. The toilets in level 3 are all broken since weeks. The money I spent for this place is not worth it at all

Staff are pleasant, location is good and they run events. Bathrooms weren't cleaned at all for the 6 days we were there. There was a sink leaking the whole time, which kept the bathroom floor soaked. There's nothing to hang up wet towels or anything in the rooms, you'd think a few command hooks wouldn't break the bank. It was made out we would have a double bed and ensuite and when we arrived they changed everything, giving us a room with double bed but no ensuite and ended up charging us more. The staff kept saying it was a "tiny bit extra" to pay but was like 100$. I wouldn't call that tiny, but if they do feel that way then maybe they could pay the difference for their mistake instead of us? Goki app is really really annoying

Maurizio was incredibly rude and should be fired. Hung up on me on the phone multiple times after asking simple questions about booking as didn’t have access to the internet at the time. Don’t support this sort of business - grow up maurizio if you’re reading this

I lived in Base for the best part of a year and had the most amazing time! Great hostel, great staff, great bar next door. Its basically my second home! I recommended ALL backpackers to go here. Most of the staff are well travelled so can recommended all the fun for you in/around Sydney and they will also help plan your EC trips with stops along the way staying in all the base hostels! Theres big rooms and small rooms and single/double/group rooms so you can fit your stay around a backpacker lifestyle, working lifestyle, weekend away with friends.

Great location, the nightclub downstairs is going off every night so don't stay here if you value your sleep. Hostel is dated, kitchen is large but hot being in the basement. Wouldn't stay here again unless you want to party every night

If I’m paying to stay somewhere, I believe the least I deserve is comfort and respect. There was no air circulation in a lot of the rooms and staff kept lying about maintenance coming to fix the system.they acted like we were out of line for inquiring about the broken AC. My group was hardly able to sleep and even after showers we never felt clean because it was so stuffy and hot. This place is run down and does not even do basic upkeep. The entire building is absolutely FILTHY. Not to mention, the staff at scary canary were incredibly rude and aggressive. I’ve never been so happy to leave somewhere

Was super excited to meet get the full hotel experience and meet new people and Nomads is the place! Met so many people on the Bondi to Coogee Walk with Lou; Josh from Reception was super helpful and they helped me feel so included! Cannot recommend enough staying here with the best location in Sydney!

Stayed here for 4 nights and was very happy with my decision. The rooms are clean and have good bathroom facilities. The beds are spacy, comfy and have curtains for privacy which is so helpful. It was very sociable and the staff there are lovely, and helped me out whenever I needed it. 24 hour reception came in handy. They have different activities in the hostel/ bar everyday. We got a free bbq and the 2 girls that ran it were so helpful and fun we had a great time. The location is perfect reasonably central and near the opera house. The tram is also just right around the corner which is very useful.

worst place I've ever stayed in. $208 for one night. was told could check in at 12, then a few hours later, and couldn't get in til after 5pm. unclean, noisy, pretty certain we had previous visitors bed sheets on, dirty with hair in the bed. more like a party hotel where people leave rubbish and vomit wherever. seems like a cash cow. positive, staff were very friendly. do not recommend at all. Sleeping on the street would be quieter.

Stayed in this hostel when I first landed in Sydney, what a great way to start my experience. Rooms are nice, location is perfect but staff made it an overall brilliant stay. Big shout out to Marinka who checked me in and gave me heaps of advice and recommendations. Literally had the best time because of her. Up next is travelling the east coast, but will be back in a few months. Definitely gonna stay here again, and recommend the hostel to all of my travel friends.

Enjoyed my stay! My room was on the first floor, I did not hear the music of the bar in my room, the bed was super comfortable. Bathrooms were clean. Location of the hostel is perfect ! Liam , Ira and Marinka were very friendly faces behind reception helping me to find my way around. I would recommend this place.

Hostel is in a great location and the staff were friendly and helpful. The 8 bed dorm wasn't very clean and didn't have a plug socket at each bed for charging things. The shared toilets/showers were much cleaner than I expected. Got upgraded to a 4 bed dorm with ensuite which was cleaner and had much better bunk beds with chargers, lights and curtains for each bed. I wouldn't want to use the kitchen for anything more than pouring a bowl of cereal, there are lots of people cooking who leave a complete mess.

Nomads was a good budget place to stay in Sydney. Brilliant location and the staff were very helpful. Particular shout-out to Matt for helping out with a Room issue. Couldn't have been kinder or more helpful. Really appreciated after a long few days of travel!!!!

I wouldn’t normally write a review but I have left Nomads hostel in Sydney very happy. The stay was great and the beds were comfy in my 2 person room with an added curtain for privacy. A big thank you to Robbie on reception when I first arrived, he was very attentive and told me some great things to do/see in Sydney with his insider knowledge of the area, he definitely made my stay at nomads good to great.

I had an amazing experience with this accommodation. The customer service was outstanding, and the service was exactly what I was looking for. I was so pleased with the service I received from this accommodation. They went above and beyond to help me when needed. Receptionist are very friendly expecially Robbie, Matty and Ganne.

Stayed here for around a week. This hostel has the potential to be amazing but only if you like to party. Which most backpackers do. Having Scary Canary right next door is a blessing and a nightmare. Great discounts on food and drink plus convenient but the downside is if you want to sleep before 2/3am on a party night then good look. Music so loud it vibrated the plugs out of the sockets in the bed.

Great hostel. Stayed here many times and its a perfect location with easy public transport to all the important parts of Sydney! All the staff are really friendly and helpful, especially Zach who has never been shy to assist when asked.

The rooms are great and always clean. A big plus point is the lobby with table tennis and table football. You can find new contacts very quickly here. The service is also very good, especially when you go to Zach, the best receptionist in Australia.

Most amazing hostel I've ever been! I already liked it as soon as I entered the door as the staff in the reception was so funny and friendly! The lobby has a table football and ping pong table which is perfect for getting in touch with people from all over the world. I want to give a special thanks to Josh for always providing helpful services and making our stay the funniest ever! Also, I want to thank Callum who always made us feel welcome and never hesitated to try his best for us! So definitely make a stop here when coming to Sydney if you don't want to miss out on the best hostel with the best staff!

I stayed here recently on a trip down the East coast and was very underwhelmed. I'll start with the good the location it's decent most things are walkable or you are near a tram to take you there. From a social side the social area is pretty decent table tennis, table football, a few sofas to sit on with some music playing. Unfortunately the rooms and other facilities massively let this place down. I stayed in a 4 person dorm room which was small and the air conditioning didn't work which essentially turned the room into a sauna especially on the top bunk. I don't even know what to say about the toilet/showers. They are seperate from the room and we're quite frankly disgusting! The showers to start with stunk of urine......I thought it was the urinals to start with but everytime I had a shower they smelt of urine. The toilet cubicles one was out of order (fair enough) leaving two however one afternoon someone was sick everywhere in one of the toilets on the floor toilet itself etc. I told reception of this around 1900 it was still there until around 0800/0900 the next morning even after it was cleaned there was still some on the floor. The sinks were also disgusting people seem to have a shave and not have the ability to use the sink itself or clean up after themselves and leave their shavings all around the sink area....I appreciate this isn't the hostels fault but again this wouldn't be cleaned until the next morning. The toilets and showers are in some serious need of some refurbishment or a cleaner at least a few times a day. I would also suggest if you're a light sleeper this isn't the hostel for you lots of noise etc I am a heavy sleeper so this didn't really effect me. I wouldn't necessarily recommend this hostel to anyone I guess it all depends what you're looking for and if you can overlook certain bits for the location and social side of things.

The reception was really friendly. The room was basic, the ac didn't work the fun had lots for dust on the fan. The shower was cold no HOT water. It was colder in the hall way then my room..I will not be back again..

Hostel is pretty good I love the people who work here! Robbie and Zac are the best! In my opinion they should get higher wage, I just booked 1 week more because of them. The only thing which is not that nice is the kitchen the rest is really good I also enjoy the lobby.

  • 3/5 Haley W. 5 months ago on Google
Bathrooms - Showers/sinks not at all clean. Stalls always out of toilet paper Kitchen - Not cleaned enough throughout the day, no space in fridges. Rooms- Power outlets only in some spots of the room. Air con not working well. Windows do not open. Big lockers for storage as well as under the beds

The Nomads hostel is definitely recommended. I started here since I arrived in Australia and am now here for my sixth week because I keep extending my stay. Nomads has a nice lobby with a table tennis table and football table where you can meet a lot of people. Furthermore, the bathrooms and kitchens are great and you have everything you need here. The only disadvantage is that you can sometimes be bothered by the music from the club next to the hostel, but this varies per room. Also the price is very good for a hostel in such a good location. The staff very friendly and always ready to help you (especially josh). so if you are looking for a hostel, I would definitely choose Nomads. Greetings from The Netherlands

Well here is the deal Great location Public space big and comfortable Fabulous kitchen Many Showers and toilets Kept Very clean Great security system Down sides Very slow elevator you might wait 10 minutes to get to your room The thing that they totally dropped the ball are the rooms 0 attention to details Ugly florescent lights Not curtains for privacy No small warm light In bed area or charger option The rooms are very big and theres space . I hope they make their room with more character and some aesthetic For 40$us a night i think its the minimum we deserve.

BEST HOSTEL I HAVE BEEN TO. Love that they have a separate section only for ladies. The staff are super friendly! Facilities and amenities all in working condition (as compared to other affordable hostels).

Overall an experience that exceeded our expectations. The staff at Base are so welcoming & kind, they always went the extra mile to help us out. Whether it was about printing tickets, borrowing a hair dryer or storing bags & belongings etc., they were always up for a chat, approachable & happy to help. Cleanliness was okay, there is room or improvement (it wasn’t shabby, but it had noticeable small details like bins & hair on tiles & walls etc). The private double room itself was a bit too noisy, cold & small for our taste & needs, but I guess you get what you pay for. We were out all day so it didn't matter too much, but make sure to bring warmer clothes in winter and close the blinds, because the windows are not insulated. The air-con worked fine though which helped fixing the cold issue & the general water pressure was good too. Also, Base Sydney is located between Town Hall station and Darling Harbour which is very convenient and consequently only a short walk to multiple tourist attractions, shops, cafés & bars.

Had a nice view from where I was staying for the 6 days. Everyone was kind and approachable. Has own kitchen, bathroom facilities, and close to public transport, shopping centres & ofc restaurants :)

Good price but the facilities need some work. Only 1/3 of the ladies toilets was usable on the first floor. Lots of leaky taps and broken bits. Showers were good and the beds were comfy. If you don't like cockroaches the kitchen is not for you - personally I don't mind the extra protein so they didn't bother me. Also they don't seem to recycle in the kitchen (?)

I stayed here for two weeks a month ago and I had really good advantages but at the same time many disadvantages. First of all, the cleaning in the bedrooms was really good and in most of the bathrooms too, but the kitchen was really dirty ¡It has many cockroaches! Regarding the atmosphere, it is not a really good place to stay with your family or to rest because there is a pub next to it and from Thursday to Sunday the music is so loud. However, it could be great for backpackers who are looking for friends and meeting people because there are people from a lot of different countries. And all the staff are very cheerful and kind!!! To sum up, it is really affordable so if you want to spend some days in a good place to meet friends and then continue your journey, it is the perfect one!

  • 2/5 Ben 2 years ago on Google
The hostel is modern and the staff are friendly, but if you want to sleep this is not the place to go. There's a club located next door and the music is so loud that the whole building is vibrating. It's 1:30 am and I don't think it's stopping any time soon. Unless you're fond of sleeping on top of paint shakers don't visit this place.

I stayed at Nomads for about 3 weeks and had a great time there with super nice and helpful staff and great facilities. The location is also perfect. It's less than a 5 minute walk from the light rail and train and there's a Woolworth's just around the corner. I recommend it to everyone!

Great experience. I brought my business here for the weekend, the attention was exceptional and the staff so helpful. Good sleep at night and chill vibes during the day. I would stay here again, no doubt.

  • 2/5 Bobby V. 1 year ago on Google
This would be a great place to stay if the music at the bar next door wasn't so loud that you can feel your bones shaking when you are trying to sleep. And sleep if kind of an important part of a hostel experience so sadly that kind of ruins it. So if you like sleep, go somewhere else.

Although, they are some great staff working and it is located on the center of CBD making everything easier for everyone. One of the manager doesn’t know the terms and conditions of the hostel she is working on. After I checkout and paid in advance another night of accommodation for when I return from weekend away.. I got surprised with pending bill because I had left a bag at the hostel. First, there isn’t anything on terms and conditions saying that guests will be charged because they left items at the hostel, specially when have plenty beds empty. Point 5.6 on terms and conditions says that the guests may be charged for adicional night if they doesn’t do checkout, but I did. Secondly, reservations are just accepted or valid when the guests receive reference number (2.6 on terms and conditions) I never received it as I didn’t book and/or intend to stay in the hostel during my time away. Third, when I asked why the pending bill was significantly increased the amount in comparison of what I normally had been paying.. the answer was because it is closer to the spring season and the prices are higher now. Based on point 3.3 on terms and conditions it says that the guests will be notified of any changes before it be incurred. (I never got any notification, and with that I have the right to refuse to pay). Lastly, when an employee that working in one place shows that doesn’t have the right skills or have difficulty for specific position to solve problems with guests (In this case as manager of the hostel) by law, the employer should provide training during 2 weeks and give her opportunity to show that she had improved her skills or then find someone else with qualifications/skills for position of manager. Also, the hostel was there for more than one month without kitchen and laundry for renovation those areas, until here everything okay. But when guests are keeping pay same amount per night for same facilities that at the end they cannot use, it should be reduce amount of accommodation or installed a temporary one to use as it is false advertising saying online that they have those facilities and in the reality, they didn’t.

This hostel is one of the best hostels I ever stayed at, my friend and I booked super last minute and the hostel was pretty booked at capacity but the manager and reception team worked hard so my friend and I could stay in the same dorm. The price was very good, the bar next door epic and showers, toilets and bathrooms really clean for a hostel. I saw the staff checking the kitchen and bathrooms as well and they asked us if we needed anything else to make our stay epic. If you visit Sydney definitely a go to hostel you can walk everywhere so good and they seem to update lots of their communal things too. We had lots of questions because we just got to Australia but everyone was really friendly and answered everything even the manger helped us with our bags and an extra fan for our room.

I stayed in this hostel now for over 3 weeks, and I have to say that the rooms are really good. The hostel has the nicest staff that I have ever met. Especially Carmen! They are so helpful and friendly. Overall I’m pretty satisfied with the hostel. Only downside is that the AC doesn’t work all the time. But Carmen from the reception gave me a fan, which does the job! I can recommend the hostel ! Also the location of the hostel is perfect.

Been staying in this hostel for 3 weeks now, and by far one of the best hostel experiences I’ve had (and I’ve travelled a fair bit). Very clean and welcoming, laundry facilities include detergent, the kitchen is large and spacious, and the common room has a ping pong table! Great for meeting new friends while traveling. The location is good near the middle of Sydney, super close walk to anything you might need. Super friendly staff especially Carmen and Rory, they’ve helped me with any problems that I’ve encountered during my time in Sydney, and give good recommendations on things around the city. When I come back to Sydney I will be staying here again 😁

If this was a rating on just the staff it would be 100/10 for me! They are the best! Carmen, Rory, Marco, Ciana! They are amazing and made my stay 1 million times better!! The facilities do need a serious revamp! Toilets smell but it was getting better! Also the old beds need to be removed for the new ones! The old ones are way too noisy!

  • 4/5 Katie89 1 year ago on Google
The room was really spacious and the beds comfortable. Bathrooms are kept very clean too. Reception staff are very helpful, and the common are has ping pong which was nice. The only downfall was that the kitchen was often very dirty (of course partly caused by guests) but there were often cockroaches in the kitchen and on the sides.

We stayed in a 4 bed mixed room. The window in the room does not open, so there is no air flow, it got a bit stale in the heat. No aircon anywhere, even though website says otherwise. The dorm room had no space for suitcases, and the carpets look like they have never seen a vacuum cleaner before. The bathrooms on level 3 were nauseating; rotting showers, no locks on some toilets, sink taps fallen off and hair, used sanitary items over the shower floors and walls. The bathrooms smelled as soon as you entered them. Cleaning in the bathrooms needs a lot of attention, since no cleaning had been done once in our stay of 5 days. Reception randomly cut my access 3 times in one day to my dorm room and front door for no reason. Was stressful being locked out of the hostel. Reception staff got it sorted the next day, but was apathetic and had no explanation for why it was happening. Rather strange game to play... Good lounge/shared area, good washing facilities in basement (washing machines and dryers), good kitchen and staff were friendly. Perfect location near town hall station.

Stayed here twice over the past 3 months and each time it’s been just what I wanted. Clean showers, air con, clean beds. They hostel holds events throughout the week in the bar next door and also day tours such as walks across beaches etc. The staff are so friendly and can help with travel plans! Honestly wouldn’t recommend anywhere else in Sydney :)

Very nice place! Clean and good rooms. Good place to stay for backpackers. Great bar/club attached with themed nights! I liked the fact that one of the staff, Henry, spoke my first language, made it that much more enjoyable!

Took part in the bbq hosted by the hostel, where the staff took us to Shelly beach the 2 girls who took us were really nice and everyone had a great time. Would definitely recommend!!

Dosa Hut Indian Restaurant Harris Park
Indian restaurant
👍 Best restaurant for South Indian dishes. Worth a try of Biryani. Tried Tandoori Soya today and it was the best I ever had here. Egg65 Biryani was so tasty. Crispy Baby corn was bad seemed like it was not fresh. You should not let your standards drop.
