I spent 2 weeks with friends, I met a lot of fantastic people including the legendary bred. We also went to see the rugby match with many boys and girls from the hostel. A cosy place, I must say that I have visited many 4/5 star hotels in the world, but I have never found showers like in this hostel, I fell in love. I was in the room for 8 people, I had a really good time. Sorry to leave, I felt at home. Everyone is always smiling. I don't speak English well, I always use the translator but also for this reason I was well accepted. I thank bred who made me taste the pizza with pineapple, as an Italian I must say that it's not bad at all. See you soon!

Good location. Bathrooms were clean. Kitchen was crowded and had no space to store your food. The bedroom was always with a lot of things on the floor and dirty, guest's fault but I think the housekeeper could do something about it or even put in place more restrictive rules. Nice staff.

Very clean and tidy hostel! The staff is super friendly and nice. As the hostel is pretty small you get to know all the people there very easily! Also the evening specials contribute to a nice hostel atmosphere (pasta night, games night, …)! Really enjoyed my stay there! :)

This hostel is extremely pleasant! I came as a solo traveller, and was welcomed in immediately by both the staff and the guests. The hostel is a small homely place, with a good vibe. The showers are amazing, and the kitchen and toilets are cleaned regularly. Although the kitchen and dining room are quite small, I actually think that’s a good thing. It makes it easy to talk to people. The events every night also make it easy to meet people, and Friday nights are buzzing like a bee that’s buzzing to be! Thanks for listening, Bradley.

Cozy hostel with friendly staff, it gives you a family atmosphere. Definitely an amazing place to stay. Showers and toilets are cleaned throughout the day, and every afternoon there are fun activities for guests.

Everything was perfect, that’s the best hostel I stayed in Sydney, showers are always clean, there is a nice kitchen, the staff is nice and always ready to help or recommend things to do! Annnnd it has a good location, recommend 10/10! Beds are comfy, all good!

The Hostel was excellent, you get a free gym pass for starters less than 200m walk. There is a shopping centre across the road with everything you could possibly need, good food and supermarkets. The hostel itself is clean, tidy and they have a newly built seating area in the TV room for which is awesome. The hostel showers are definitely up there with some of the best I’ve come across and I wouldn’t hesitate to book more nights here. A lot of the guests are long-term so it has a proper family vibe.

Best Hostel do stay in Sydney! Staff are very friendly and helpful. Free gym pass just over the road, easy to socialise & meet people. Would recommended for solo traveller. The rooms are well looked after each day. Perfect location with transport right outside the hostel and minutes away from central.

I stay for a couple of weeks here when I just arrived in Sydney and I didn't have any complains. Yes you will share your room but it's an opportunity to make friends and meeting new people so that's a pro. The bathrooms were clean and bigger than i thought. They have a full equipped kitchen, a dining room, a gaming area (there's a play station there), a laundry area and you get a free pass to a very cool gym just a few minutes away from the hostel. Oh and they offer some events in the evening a couple of days a week where you can get free food or participate in some cool activities. In general if you are coming alone to Sydney and you don't know anybody and don't have much money it's the perfect place to stay in the beginning of your journey. Plus they had a great location near to buss stops, train station, parks, malls and more. It's a safe choice :)

This hostel was excellent. The staff are very welcoming and friendly and the location is great. The showers and toilets are very clean as are the rooms. I stayed here for a few months and never had any issues. Would definitely stay here again!

Amazing staff, had the best time. Rooms were really nice and clean, best air con in town! The rooms were icy as! Literally the best shower i've ever used at a hostel! It's almost a shame i stayed here first as no hostel can compare. Thanks to Laura for throwing amazing events each evening, they were so fun! 🥳

The best hostel I’ve stayed in, has amazing amenities & very clean. The staff go above and beyond. Very sociable and welcoming as a solo backpacker. Great location also! Couldn't fault this hostel, deserves the 5 stars.

I have been staying in the hostel for the last week and a bit, and it's been so good that I have extended my stay for another month! The staff are so friendly and helpful, especially mya, she's an absolute babe! The location is ideal as well as it's close enough to be able to walk to everywhere you want to go in the city, but just out the way enough that you can have a proper night's sleep! 10/10 would recommend

We’ve had a lovely time here. One of the best hostels we’ve stayed in whilst in Australia. The staff are fantastic and build a little community. Jess was especially brill as she went above and beyond to make sure we enjoyed our time. Cleanest bathrooms I’ve seen in a hostel by far, there’s always someone cleaning somewhere. Loved the events each night especially music bingo. We had such a good time after our first couple weeks here, we chose to become long term guests. The only downside would be how much the prices have increased since we first stayed here, I understand that this is the decision of upper management not the in hostel staff but I sincerely hope that these price increases mean the in house staff are getting the salary raise they deserve.

I’m absolutely loving my stay so far, so much so that I have extended every week for the past 2 months! Staff are incredible, friendly and super helpful. Couldn’t have asked for a better welcome from the staff as well as being there for anything I need. Facilities are amazing, always clean and very well maintained. Events on every night which makes things very sociable, particularly great for solo travellers wanting to make new friends. Also love the added benefit of free use of the gym! The rooms are great, very comfortable beds and they are kept neat and tidy. To anyone coming to Sydney, I couldn’t recommend this hostel more, fantastic location and overall a wonderful place to stay! 🫶🏽

The staff are very welcoming, and provide as very hospitable environment, especially the fit Scouse lady. During my time here I have felt part of a very sociable, vibrant community. Will definitely be visiting again on my next trip to Sydney!

We stayed for a long weekend in a 6 people dorm room. Although the location is nice and a lot of stuff is in walking distance, we did not have a great time being in the hostel itself. The building is not very clean, although most amenities are relatively new, it does not look cleaned consistently and thoroughly. Bathrooms have edges of mold and hallways feel dirty. But the worst part was the room itself. Compared to other hostels I have stayed at, privacy and space feel very minimal, but I suppose that is a trade off for a budget hostel. However, what really ruined the experience for me is the smell in the rooms. Even our stay during dry winter has the room feel very humid, warm, and with a mean stench. The ventilation is just incredibly subpar, and the air quality is so bad I struggled to sleep. The beds were also quite noisy, with both the frames and the mattresses being quite squeaky. I can see the hostel as in a good location and a good atmosphere for solo backpackers, but the quality of the room is just too low to give this anything above two stars.

Highly recommend this hostel, especially as have been to a few other hostels around Sydney. Great value for money and amazing little community here. The staff are very friendly and helpful, they always go out their way to help. The facilities here are very good and everywhere is cleaned at least once a week, so pretty clean (especially when comparing it to other hostels). I’m glad I’ve found this hostel as it’s perfect for people like me, who like to be social and want to meet new people and have a good time

The hostel is really nice and friendly. The rooms and amenities are always clean. The staff are also really helpful and work really hard especially Jess, Rory, Poppy and Abbie. The activities of an evening are also a great addition.

As a solo traveller this hostel was perfect. I loved my stay there. The staff were super friendly and it was very easy to chat and meet new people. The location is very close to central station/ bus and tram stops. The facilities were always very clean, especially the showers and bathrooms.

Mad Monkey Broadway is great, reminds me of the one in Cairns! Great people. Rooms are quiet and dark and the beds are comfy. What I missed was a terrace or a rooftop to hang out. The kitchen is small and the only place apart from reception to hang out with other backpackers.

Shout out to Jake at the front desk for being so welcoming and helpful! Great little hostel. Excellent location, weekly meals and daily breakfast served > included in the price. Met lots of friendly people to spend my days with.

The place smelt really bad literally like sewerage and the people there were really odd. My mate had a few really uncomfortable situations with several people. Also would like to say that the place looks nothing like the photos.

Great hostel in a great location. Friendly and helpful staff were always on hand to accommodate our needs. We stayed in one of the newly renovated private rooms which was very nicely done and had a massive bed. Massive showers, great management and all round top level experience.

The hallways smelt like sewerage and some of the residents were very creepy. Not recommended at all.

My stay at mad monkey was incredible from start to finish! I stayed here long term and from the second I walked in the door I was met with 10/10 staff. The facilities are second to none, from the big showers to the beds that are perfect for a great nights sleep! The hostel is brilliantly located from shops and bus stops so nothing is ever too far! I would without a doubt recommend this hostel to anyone who is looking to have the best time possible while travelling in Sydney! P.s Kerry is the best manager there could be for a hostel! :)

  • 5/5 Maximiliano M. 3 years ago on Google
The best hostel in Sydney by far, the comfort, the attention from the managers to the maintenance guys, always with a smile and I would never hesitate to return if I am in Australia, at least spend a day to say hello and remember very good moments lived. The events and services provided by this hostel will surprise you, discover an excellent place to rest and have a lot of fun!

Availability on short notice, nice enough place - pretty good for the price, room was fine and as expected for the price range. Bathrooms were clean and loads of them so never waited for a shower. Shower pressure and temp was good, common room and kitchen were nice, tidy and comfortable to use. Nice social atmosphere. Jake at the front desk was particularly welcoming and helpful and was happy to help with a receipt I'd forgotten to grab upon payment as well as suggestions on where to eat locally. Free anytime Fitness gym pass was a cool bonus! Overall, really positive experience. Thanks for the stay!

We stayed 2 weeks in this really fantastic hostel, the people you find are very welcoming. Bred is a fantastic person who is very nice and runs a really nice place. I've had a good time here and I recommend it to anyone. Located in a strategic place and close to everything. If I happen to go back to Sydney, I'll definitely be back here.

We had a nice double room and great showers. Good value for money and close to loads of public transport. Brad is super friendly and makes you feel welcome. Only real negative is the size of the common areas as they are fairly small for the amount of people

One of the best hostels I’ve stayed in. Great atmosphere, everyone is very friendly. Good location, near the CBD and close to public transport. The hostel is clean, offers free gym pass and lots of free activities!

Great place to stay in Sydney, absolutely loved it, the place was cleaned several times a day which was nice. Staff super friendly and welcomed me into the hostel straight away! Definitely would stay here again!

I would give 5 stars for customer service as the people are very friendly. But would give 0 stars for cleanliness (please clean your AC/floor mats as they are extremely dirty and smelly. Some of your guests are stating their permanently, please educate them (2 guys - room no.8) not to disturb your guests and be mindful that it is a shared accomodation. They were slamming the doors till 5 am in the morning and behaved like a weirdo.

I tried contacting the Night Manager several times as advised for a late check-in. It states on the website that they are reachable after 8pm. Booking.com staff and myself also tried calling for an hour and after 9pm. They answered around 915pm and promised to call me back yet they did not. The receptionist explained that the confirmation email stated reception was closed from 5-9pm, and that's why noone was present at the desk when I arrived for check in at 6pm. She claims that this information is stated on a sign at the desk and did not verbally tell me, apart from saying that I have to take a picture of the sign. You should train your staff to at least tell customers that they can't check in from 5-9pm, instead of telling us to just take a picture. I tried to be as understanding as I can and was calling before I arrived at the property to ensure there was at someone at the desk. Yet noone answered the phone. however the confirmation email states that check-in can be anytime. The website for this specific Broadway branch also stated that check in can be from 8am until midnight. The description on Booking.com is from 7am until midnight. I paid in cash, so the receptionist did not give me a receipt to provide that I had paid and stated that I would have to contact the regional manager to get a refund. This left me alone in the Sydney CBD on a Saturday evening for several hours and I felt incredibly unsafe and uncomfortable. Now I was told I had to contact their regional manager for a refund because I paid in cash. Just a horrible experience.

Bustling, friendly environment, quiet in the mornings, bit noisy in the evenings as expected until around 10-11pm but settled well overnight each night. Beds comfy, room warm, blankets and pillows nice. Room had some less than professional repairs, but functional and clean. Bathrooms same.

Mad monkey is a kind place, with nice staff and guests. The accommodation is so good! Comfortable bed, clean and good showers. You can enjoy pasta's night, tacos and sangria.

Stayed here for 5 weeks went to Brisbane, went back to Sydney and to this hostel and stayed another week. Love it. It's not that big and due to that it creates a more family like atmosphere and you get to know the people you are living with. Definitely can recommend it. The location is the best thing about it. You are next to Sydney university and to Broadway shopping center. Best hostel I ever stayed in.

  • 5/5 Nicolas A. 1 year ago on Google
Beautiful Hostel. Beds are comfortable, bathrooms are modern and clean. The showers are excellent, and the location is great. Above all, the staff are super courteous and accommodating. The hostel is fairly small and cozy, helping you to meet new people. Furthermore, the common area is tidy and the Wi-Fi excellent, making it easy to get some work done. In terms of price and performance, the Mad Monkey Broadway Hostel is fabulous.

Decent Hostel with clean, comfortable beds and social community. Kitchen stove was filthy and should be cleaned daily, same goes for the shared fridges. Beds could use privacy curtains and carpets could use an upgrade. Overall good stay though, would go back.

Although it has been a difficult year, the manager of this hostel still makes people fall into trouble, has no basic respect for people, and has no ability to support the so-called management role. Don’t underestimate anyone, brad, your injustice will be directed at yourself one day.
