I still can't understand. how did it happen, I made a reservation for a room in a certain house of the hostel, but ended up in a completely different house. I waited half an hour at the reception until they resolved the issue with my bed. As soon as I settled in and took a shower, my room was changed twice! I was taken to another building, which is almost in a basement, where dirt, midges and mold are! Cockroaches. Is this a New Year's gift? Why such a terrible attitude towards guests. What right do you have to move a person from the room and hostel he has booked? Do I look like someone who lives in a basement? I have never encountered such a boorish attitude towards guests. queue at the reception. Issued a room for one free night. This is horror. The room is all dirty. The floor was probably not washed since last year. strange stains on the walls. Lots of debris and dust. Employees in general either come in when it is not necessary, and even do not even knock. Either you wait two hours for them to finally come and prepare your bed, as it is empty or dirty. The rules are apparently not created for everyone. There's a sign saying it's quiet after 9 p.m. but this doesn’t stop anyone from yelling at the entire hostel and having a party after midnight. and the hostel workers pretend that everything is fine. I would never in my life, even for money, come back here.

The female manager (I was told by others she’s is the manager) is ABSOLUTELY ARROGANT!! I tried booking online and clicked on the opinion to pay at the site because it says they will price match the online price for their own Hostel the village glebe and so I decided to just go in and they will be able to help me out. The first thing she said was we don’t price match!!! Without even letting me finish my sentence and after finally booking it online she made me wait while she was chatting to a coworker outside .. obviously nothing important as they were just sitting on the stairs while she saw me waiting patiently. Worsts decision I made was coming back to stay at this Hostel served by her, I recently stayed here for a couple of weeks and found the staff friendly and helpful that’s the only reason I came back. Never again!! Made this stay unpleasant from the start. I’m definitely not going to extend my stay here. Now I see what people were talking about when I heard many was moving out and finding another Hostel to stay at. I say don’t bother if you are going to be served or greeted by the “Manager” Stay elsewhere. You will be much happier. Don’t waste your time and money. I don’t want others to experience this. I absolutely regret coming back here to stay.

Extremely functional hostel. I stayed in a room with 4 beds. White bedsheets and comfy mattresses. Toilets are common…. About 4 WC’s and 4 bath areas in the common loo. They have a common kitchen where one can cook. The terrace is a cool place to hang out or have your meal. The place has a nice vibe to it.

Horrible place — reception didn’t turn up until hours after the stated opening time and the room wasn’t ready until hours after check in time (apparently it was being cleaned despite the room being horrible). The few staff who we saw were unhelpful and unfriendly and provided false information (booked 2 rooms for family stay, provided towels for one room but refused for the other). Stains all over the mattress including mould. No bed sheets provided until someone came into the room at 1.30AM to deliver them?? Cockroaches in communal areas and generally super dirty, badly maintained rooms and facilities. No directions or useful signage and confusing electronic key card system. No one answers the phone helpline. Don’t stay here!!! Even if you think it’s worth it to save money, it’s not!!! Would leave zero stars if I could.

I tried to check in when I arrived, check in process was horrendous as their phone number doesn't work and they only respond via email. Keep in mind the following interaction was through email and you will understand how frustrating it is to wait for a reply. They told me my room is not available and they sent me a cancellation email which I never received. When I asked them what's going on, they told me to just contact Expedia to get a refund when I was sitting in their reception (nobody is at the desk). They asked me to see if I want to go to one of the other rooms, so I asked them if there's a phone number I can call to sort this out and they just stopped responding. Expedia contacted them to ask for a refund (through email as their phones still don't work) and I'm still waiting for my refund a week later.

It offers a decent stay for backpackers with limited stuff. However it seems to be expensive compared to other places. It is easily accessible by bus, but not in a very good location. The rooms are not spacious; and with 4 people staying in a room, I feel the rent should be approx. $25-$35. Apart from this, the experience with the staff was nice and a normal experience within the room.

Really bad.Never met this awful receptionist. The girl is not at the reception, need to wait long time! Not kind. Don't go there if you want good mood and don't waste money !!! She should change the job if she don't like or if she don't have kindess.

Positives: The location of this hostel is amazing, in a quiet area with lots of food options right near one of Sydney's most beautiful waterfront areas, Glebe foreshore parks. Also easy to get around Sydney with lots of transport options around. They have a rooftop area, small downstairs dining / living room area and some social events. They have a good kitchen and cooking area. The hostel is inside some old buildings but the rooms we were staying in had been recently renovated. Negatives: The biggest issue is the cleanliness. The cleaners don't come through the rooms frequently enough considering how many people stay in them, so the floors and bathroom gets dirty very quickly. They also didn't restock the toilet paper for a few days so I had to go buy my own. The bin in our room filled up and stayed full because nobody came to empty it. The common areas do not get cleaned enough. There are no water filters in the entire hostel so you have to drink bad tasting tap water. They have these app controlled smart locks on the door which are a pain, they require you to always have your phone to unlock and you need to turn on Bluetooth and GPS and it takes a few minutes.

This place is a scam. There is rarely a receptionist and the online check in is a broken nightmare. They have an email and phone number which is like yelling into a void. We waited for 3 hours before resorting to sleeping in our car, and then finally got a message through their app to tell us our codes at 12am. Other people were not so lucky, and ended up sleeping on the couches in reception or in rooms which had empty beds. There was no toilet paper, and the entire place was filthy. Over priced to boot. Do. Not. Go. Here.

Worst hostel I’ve stayed at. I don’t ask much from a hostel but this hostel lacked the few things I expect. Cleanliness and safety/security. The stairs, kitchen, common room, bedroom floor etc were all filthy. Someone squished a roach in the corridor and it was there for the entirety of my stay. The kitchen was smelly and covered in bits of food and dust. The common areas looked like they hadn’t been cleaned in months. The bathrooms contained both blood and vomit at least once. I also had to request fresh sheets upon check in as the ones they provided were stained with fresh blood (it was crispy so not a stain that had been washed) they did swap these out for me. Second the point of safety and security, I have stayed in hostels before where I had the idea some people lived there permanently but I don’t care if the people are respectful. There were loads of older guys living here that were very loud and also shouted stuff after people when drunk. There was one night when there were people screaming, shouting and making tons of noise as if they were knocking bins or something outside until after 1am. There were also always people asleep on the couches in the basement and reception and I saw people coming in the door in the basement too. I also had a female dorm and a man stayed there then a couple, my roommate said that had happened frequently during her stay.

Absolutely apaulling service. I collected my key at 8.30 and could not get into the room even after having others try. I was stuck. At this point there was no one at reception and no one answer the phone so I was simply unable to use the room, and even now they refuse to give me a refund! They are now simply ignoring my emails. Seriously save yourself the time and find a real hotel/hostel cause this one is a pathetic excuse for one. I honestly feel scammed.

Waited for almost 2.5 hours and still nobody was there to check me in and it was raining that night. had booked through booking.com called them and they tried to contact the place as well and didnt get a response, finally booking. com cancelled my reservation and refunded me the money and arranged another place for me, by that time it was already 3:00 am in the morning. Pretty horrible experience will never recommend this place

I loved how the accommodation was cleaned. I was only there for two nights. I walked out in the morning to the cleaner, mopping the floor. I thought, wow, no wonder my feet were clean underneath when I was walking around the room. The kitchen was also cleaned. The bench tops and grills were cleaned, and the floor cleaned. They care about their guests. I loved their app. Soon after I moved in I discovered the codes were changed daily to enter everywhere. Without my phone, I would have been lost and not able to have breeky, place my bedding in the laundry. Loved the safety and security. When I go back next time, the receptionist rang me and thanked me for a review I left today somewhere, and asked me if I saw all of the accommodation. I hadn't. He said he would show me around if he is on duty. A friendly place to visit.

Booked a 4-bed female dorm. It was an overall good experience. Bathrooms and Toilets are clean (could use a little more cleaning but not bad at all). Rooms are clean. I’m not so much a social person but based on the posters and ads I saw, the hostel hosts a bunch of social events. Check in and check out went smoothly as well. Good value for money.

I’ve stayed for two weeks and just extended for another two weeks weeks with my two favourite receptionist. Asim and Gabriel are the most charming two guys I’ve met, very helpful, always up for a chat, quite generous and funny! The hostel is fairly clean, the rooms are done once a day and you’ve got clean sheets. The atmosphere at the hostel is familiar, because everyone is really open and welcoming. Whatever you need, just ask and someone will help you. The facilities are awesome as well, you’ve got two ping pong tables, a gym, a rooftop and a koi pound. The buildings have a nice vintage style to them but it has a blend of old and modern, it’s renovated on the inside, so it’s not run down at all but classy! I feel very comfortable here in that sense. The receptionist Asim is not only receptionist, but event manger as well and organises bbq, free pancakes on Sunday and painting classes (with Rita!). Kitchen very very clean for a hostel kitchen in my opinion and there’s enough space in the fridges and shelves for your bags! Also Rita went to great lengths to help me fix my knitting needles, so very happy about that!😄 and ofc special mention for Gabriele, just because he’s the nicest.

Shout out to Asim for throwing all these great rooftop parties, he's the man! This hostel is great, i do not understand the negative reviews on google and booking as all the rooms are clean, the beds are comfy & the facilities are good for hostel standards. The hostel is also conveniently situated next to a bus stop that quickly gets you in to town. All the events held in this hostel only makes the experience better, will definitely come back when I return to Sydney!

Was skeptic at first seeing some negative reviews but right after the day I arrived, started wondering why the place got the negative reviews at all? Was warmly welcomed on my arrival, guided pretty well by the staff, especially the night receptionist (Asim) was very helpful. Also, amazing how he hosted the beer pong, never seen a party vibe like that in any hostel I've been to! Rooms are decent, housekeeping does an amazing job, they have night cleaners as well. Overall, loved my stay here. Value for money!

I’ve stayed here now for two weeks and it’s amazing. The staff is super helpful and always nice, there’s lots of space to meat people. The kitchen is great and I love the rooftop. Would definitely recommend! Also Glebe is a very lively and fun area to be in so the location is great.

Stayed for 2 weeks, had an amazing time with some amazing staff! Everyone was super welcoming and friendly, left with some amazing friends. Everyone was a lot of fun! The rooms and bathrooms are really clean! Special shout out to Asim who planned loads of socials and kept the vibe flowing all the time - he deserves a promotion! Thanks everyone & I'll be back 👌

I really like this Hostel! It has a gym, the bathrooms get cleaned regularly and the Art night with Rita and Asim are awesome. This is pretty unique for a Hostel! In general the atmosphere here is great. There are a lot of animals though (spiders, cockroaches...) but I guess thats normal in Australia... I love Glebe in general, so would definitely recommend staying here!

This has to be one of my worst hostel experiences in Sydney. There was no one at the reception when we arrived. Now that's fine as the check-in was at 2 pm. With that said, they didn't inform us through email that staff wouldn't be there until 4 pm. I had to call up the other Village Hostel to get the code for the mailbox so I could get my keycard. They were supposed to send me an email but they didn't and then when I ask the girl when she arrived she then sent me the email, speaking to me quite rudely. The next day the staff member was unfriendly and didn't seem to wanna help. The room itself was a triple basic room that was under private rooms, not dormitory for which I wouldn't have booked otherwise. They repeated pestered me about being one guest even though my booking was for 2 guests and I showed them. The housekeeper was very friendly and did what she could but there clearly isn't any management there. After 4 days, I discover that there is another person in our room. After discussing with them several times about the room, they put an older Australian man in a room with a young couple. I understand it is a hostel but I was told by several people and staff that 70% of people had left and was practically empty. Besides that, with a pandemic happening, why they wouldn't just put the guest into an empty dormitory is bizarre as he and we didn't feel too comfortable and it could of be completely avoided. I spoke with the friendly Brazilian staff member (they change most days) who moved us to a private room finally. The kitchen area is a mess but it does have plenty of social areas, a shame there are barely people there, and the ones who are, clearly aren't your typical hostel travelers. Some of the guests there seem to be smoking weed in their rooms and made my girlfriend feel uncomfortable. Unfortunately, there isn't anyone there to discuss this with. They have a really cool rooftop that is very warm and relaxing, the best part about it. Overall, I wouldn't recommend this hostel to anyone unless they have no alternative and want to stay with drug users and older guests. Also, there isn't any wifi. Last resort.

VERY bad experience. The management of the Hostel is the worst that i ever met, aggressive, not friendly at all. I had multiple episodes were people working in the Hostel were screaming at the guest for no reason. It also happened that one of the guy working in there was coming in our room at 4 am, asking for tabacco. When i report it to the management, they laughed at me. I DO NOT RECOMMEND this hostel to anyone, the worst hostel i ever been in my life.

I have been in many backpackers places around the world and this is so far the bottom rock that you can get on how they sell then sell and the behave of the staff. The place smells is incredibly bad and the people that actually live there are so rude (specially if you are brown or dark colour skin) The girl at the reception is not only super rude but as well useless all the way to hell! I’m sorry but if you hate your job/life move on! Vote 0

Not a bad hostel, they try to clean pretty often, even multiple times a day but, from my 1 month experience, mostly of the guests are so mannerless that it's worthless. The hostel is nice tho, with free bbq's on fridays.

The location is great. Not so much all else. Receptionist just radiated the most negative energy I’ve witnessed, rooms were cleaned after we checked in, and there was mold in my roof. Also some long tail silverfish crawling on the walls - they’re not dangerous just nasty. Great restaurants nearby

Highly recommended!! Got to stay over 6 weeks. Nice vibes, clean and neat. Large gardens surrounded by trees to chill and have an evening drink. A little Oasis in Sydney in a quite area. Thanks Jorge for being always kind and helpful during our stay there. See you soon Village. =D

Came for the 2pm check in for nobody to be there. Had to call 2 different numbers, scan 1 QR code, email 2 addresses and take on voluntary help from a hostel resident and the cleaner just to check in and make it through the front door. Facilities dirty. Phone service slack. Bedrooms small and uncomfortable. No access to lounge room nor kitchen. Tried messaging to cancel and get a refund as I left early due the poor service and poor conditions, to no avail. The absolute worst. Avoid.

Staff is kind, comfortable for the bus that is in front of the hostel that take you in the center of the city and another one take you to the ocean beach. It’s perfect because it’s just for the cheapest accommodation

Extremely bad experience, in my two days of stay they changed the room thrice. They stuff people very close to each other in COVID times, probably breaching all the COVID guidelines. Putting larger community at risk, the only good thing was rooftop which they shut down in such a good weather, citing COVID reasons. Terrible experience, won't recommend anyone to stay here.

The shower is really nice. It is very cheap to stay here and you are relatively close to the city centre. The sleeping room had no windows so it felt like there was not enough air - that bothered me a bit. The kitchen was not too clean, but it was nothing bad. A great place for backpackers on the move.

I stayed here ages ago many times and I love this hostel. I particularly loved the double private room with shared bathroom facilities. It was clean cosy and quiet. I felt like home away from home. I didn’t use the kitchen or lounge facilities really as I had other work to do or friends to visit so can’t comment on them but the location is great and I nice part of the suburb.

If you want your hard working money taken away and not get credit for stays then this is the place. Recommend travelers to go somewhere else and not get scammed. Sad how I got attacked from another village and this place decided to take my money away and not offer a credit days. STAY AWAY!

Reception was horrible as mentioned in alot of previous reviews, waited 45min to download, email/ call numbers to eventually get someone who told us we'd have to wait another 20min to come down. That's fine then get to the room and no toilet paper soaps towels coffees milk ect. Was as if they weren't expecting anyone in the room today . Cockroaches roaming the bathroom and too top it all off after laughing how the hallway roof was leaking everywhere in the front foyer.Came back to the roof leaking over our bed and pillows All this wonderful experience for $128

Our stay at Glebe started promising, rooms were average and facilities were a bit unhygienic however nothing too major. The main issue arose when my friend and I came back to our private room late at night to find a man in our bed and all of our stuff gone. We then found out The reception had moved all our stuff that we had unpacked Into garbage bags into the storage room. We were told they were unsure how this had happened and they didn’t know the man.. we were then taken to another free room which surprisingly also had someone staying in it and theirs was pizza box’s everywhere and plates stacked high. We were put in a dorm for a night. The next morning the reception was no where to be found. As we looked around for them we also discovered there was people sleeping in the basement. Extremely strange vibes. Brennen the supervisor of the hostel was the only helpful person working and gave us a full refund the next day. I’d avoid this place especially if you are a solo female.

I am giving this hostel one star because the room was quite clean. Considering how utterly incredulous I am about the debacle the rest of our stay became, I feel I am being especially generous. To begin with, the place is incredibly difficult to find. The street number is hidden behind all the cars parked on the road, and there is no sign. The street number itself is also incorrect. When you get to the door, it tells you to go to another address. By the time you’ve figured out how to find the first address, you at least know which direction to go, which is just as well, because the second building you need to find is not even numbered, let alone signed. Luckily someone heard us wandering up and down the street counting driveways, and pointed out the building we wanted. We then started the lengthy process of trying to figure out how to get in. If you’ve seen an Indiana Jones movie, you may have some idea about how this works. Thankfully, a six page email provides details of the ten (yes, 10!) steps you will need to go through in order to access the building and your room. If you’re very lucky, someone might come and let you into your floor, or perhaps they’ll have propped a door open, because that step is wrong. Good luck! In case any of the 10 steps presents an impenetrable barrier to your check in, a phone number is conveniently provided, which allows you to leave a message that no one will respond to. This may not help you access your room, but it does give you a direction for your pointless swearing. After an hour in Sydney’s unbearable humidity, which we spent downloading the useless app that was supposed to let us into our room, walking up and down the stairs, trying to call for help and getting generally flustered, we were relieved to see an airconditioner in the room... which could not be turned on because there was no controller. And despite the recent outbreak of Japanese encephalitis, the sadists running this tower of torture insist that even a flyscreen is too much to ask! Faced with the choice of dying from heat exhaustion from Sydney’s insane humidity or taking our chances with the mozzies, we flipped a coin and opened the window to the deadly virus and lay our heads to rest on our pillows that were so thin they felt like someone had popped a couple of facewashers into a pillowcase. I have travelled all over the world and never have I encountered a hostel so determined to keep its guests out or kill them if they're unlucky enough to get in. If this is all you can afford in Sydney, it's not worth it: try Melbourne.

The village Hostel in Glebe is excellent! I wish I knew about it earlier before I came down to Australia. Been staying here now for the last three weeks and I don’t wanna move out anytime soon! Rooms and facilities are good but service was terrible. No staff work there so if you have any issues checking in, which a lot of people do, you will wait over an hour for someone to come help. If you value your time at all you will not stay here. Also no towels available to rent.

After 20 minutes of waiting at the front desk we were told that our room doesn’t exist and didn’t know we were coming. They proceeded to tell us that they were almost at capacity and without asking us signed us all in before telling us we would need to sleep in seperate rooms sometimes floors apart. This wouldn’t have been a big problem if a teenage girl wasn’t put in a room alone with two drunk middle aged men multiple doors down from anyone from her group. We told them this was unacceptable and that we would like a refund in which they said that won’t be a problem and we should expect the money in anywhere from 1 to 24 hours. It has now been 3 days and still now refund and they have ignored all calls and emails sent to them about the matter. Not only did we have no where to sleep that night but we are now down $216. Atrocious. Absolutely do not stay here.

I spent 2 weeks at the village glebe and it was amazing. The room (female only, 5 beds) was clean and comfortable. Service is great and people who work there always tried to help as much as possible and they are also very friendly! Gabriel was great!!! They are always coming up with activities for the hostel like free yoga, barbecue, game night, beer pong, pancakes... Not to mention the perfect location. Glebe is the best, with a lot of coffee shops, it's near central station and broadway shopping center. Thank you guys for making these 2 weeks so much better!

I'd give this dump zero stars but I can't, so 1 star for having a nice rooftop view??? This was the biggest cat fish of accommodation I've ever experienced in all my stays anywhere. I'll be demanding a full refund. Disgusting rooms and equally disgusting customer service.

Hostel well equipped and affordable price. Rooftop and very good parties. Very welcoming staff, the cleaner Kaio at night helped me in the kitchen and kept the place clean. The French receptionist helped me and was very friendly. Would go back and recommend.

More than 3 days since the hot water doesnt worked, the kitchen at night is still dirty, there are never clean pans to cook, the washing machines do not spin and the dryers do not dry, the Wi-Fi NEVER works, and the refrigerators have a rotten smell, from rats in the kitchen to bathrooms flooded with hair. It is your problem no for us, its normal to pay a minimum of $42 dollars per night for this rubbish service?

Booked this place at the last minute & luckily the room was available 3 hours earlier than the check-in time. I stayed there just for a day and I didn't use all the facilities and so I can't vouch for everything. As far as my stay, the place was really nice. Remember it's a hostel - good luck to have clean roommates - no complaints except for my roommate's clothes all over the place. But then, the staff removed them for me. The staff were helpful.

This was my first experience ever staying in a hostel. Stayed here for a Saturday night in a 4 share. I live in south west Sydney and was spending the night in the city but didnt want to pay for a hotel room so this was a good alternative. The building is a little old so you can hear people walking up and down the stairs. My room was decent with a fridge and microwave, the bathroom looks newly renovated. My room didn't have any lockers and I was on the top bunk so it would have been good to have some room for my belongings. The one room mate I spoke with was nice and said it was one of the nicer hostels he has stayed at. It cost me about $15 (uber) to get into the city or you could take a bus. The bed was reasonably comfortable but a little squeaky. Cafes and bars about a 500m walk down the road. Would stay again.

Receptionist not that friendly/helpful. Location not the best and had to make own beds. Other than that it was really clean, nice modern bathrooms etc. Had some fun free stuff too but didn't stay long enough for that. Would still recommend if you want something out of the city centre.

Neat, tidy, central. Receptionist on the evening of 27/1/23 could have been a little more helpful and understanding. Instead of being condescending and speaking down to me like a 3yo as I tried to figure out the app for the first time that is used instead of keys. She may have been doing something important on her screen, but helping guests gain access to building seems like an important role for staff.

Booked twin-bed room, which is just a room with a bunk bed. Perfect for solo travellers who'd bet on their privacy, I managed to get the whole room to myself for 4 nights! Choose room 116 over room 101, trust me. Only downside if people are inconsiderate, just listen to some music. Remember to bring your own towel, slippers and a 1.5m cellphone cable!

Could give zero stars if possible. Booked a room with private bathroom for a nice shower post 13 hours flight to Australia. Waited in reception for over 30 mins at 11pm exhausted, to be told they’d given the room away to someone else. We had to stay in a room with shared bathroom instead, there’s not enough shower and toilets for the amount of guest there! We weren’t even apologised to for their mistake and were only refunded $30 for the difference after all the inconvenience.Would not recommend!
