Stay away!! Everything in this lodge feels like maximizing profits at guests expense. There's no care to guests whatsoever! 1. Bathrooms- water only luke warm, not hot. And, after 15 min the light TURNS OFF automatically, and you're left in the dark ( no windows)!! 2. Room key is a fob. To unlock the room, you Swipe your fob against a central sensor that's located at the OTHER side of the corridor. All rooms use this single sensor for access ( see photo). Was it that difficult to provide guests with a simple room key? 3. Kitchen cupboards have no handles so you cannot open the Cupboard. .. ( see photo). 4. I arrived at 7pm, and the 2 buildings were very dark ( only emergency light operated), i struggled to find my room until another guest kindly helped. I phoned the emergency number , and the receptionist, very uninterested, insisted that 'there is a general power cut '. But the rooms HAD lights... saving money on guests? This building is so dark that it's a HAZARD not having lights operating.! 5. My bed didn't even have a pillow, and a pillow was nowhere to be found ( small detail but annoying). Forget about what cheap deal you might be getting there... it is so NOT worth it!!

Clean room and bedding. The manager Cathy made sure I felt safe and comfortable. Good place to crash at.

I just stayed here and it was a really good place to stay. Excellent location. Lovely long hot showers and large bathrooms. Clean. Tidy. Free street parking which was very handy. Wonderful kind caring staff. No drama patrons, mature and kind people staying here. No drama whatsoever. Can’t wait to come back

I cancelled the hostel within the free cancellation period and the hostel charged my card anyway and even took $30 more than the booking. They refused to refund me even though they advertised free cancellation when booking. The woman on reception put the phone down on me and ignored mine and Expedia phone calls. The staff are extremely rude and honestly so dumb. I had to get Expedia and my bank involved to get my money back. The hostel just wanted to scam me out of $1500.

Clean rooms, right near the city and friendly staff! The reviews do not do it justice - this place is in a lovely old building with character, however the rooms are relatively new and clean. Nice outdoor area with BBQ for relaxing and reading a book. Kitchen and bathrooms all well kept too. Staff were fantastic and speak many languages! Would recommend and will stay again. Parking on street too and right near train station (5 min walk). Quite and peaceful, mostly Europeans. J

we spent 3 weeks in this hostel, it is well appointed, the cleaning is well done and the manager Cathy is friendly and very kind. we highly recommend. plus the Newton neighborhood is really nice.

Stayed here to attend a festival, easily accessible location 5 min walk from train station, the lady at the reception deserves a pay rise, super helpful and friendly, rooms are average could do with some air conditioning.

Well located, fairly quiet but there can be aircraft noise depending on the selected flight paths on the day. Clean kitchen. Bathrooms were fully equipped but byo soap as usual. Towel was supplied. Parking was surprisingly good. Remote check in worked well. No air con in rooms and fan was not positioned well on wall to cool while you sleep.

Just a good place to stay, really really quiet and clean. Really kind staff. Good location.

Absolutely brilliant backpackers. Very calm and quiet place so really good for people who need a bit of downtime, cleaners keep it clean, lovely big kitchen, wonderful location. Very professional staff with so much kindness.

Good price. Clean rooms. Safe and secure. Rooms had a bed, lamp, fridge, cupboard, wardrobe, fan, towels, heater, tv and bedside table. 2 bathrooms with shower and toilet close by. Access to covered balcony with plants (we did not get to use as it was night, cold and raining and we were tired). Steps at entry. 5 minute walk to Emma's Place Lebanese restaurant - highly recommended! Would definitely stay there again if we needed accommodation near the city/airport in Sydney.

Great location just a block away from Strathmore station and a 15 minute walk to Newtown. Bathrooms and common areas clean, though stairs and landing a bit creaky. Appreciated the late arrival information that made accessing the property after hours super easy. Immaculate vibes in the downstairs rec area, with guests eating together and singing. Leaving was my favourite part of my stay because of the fantastic warmth the staff showed on my way out, despite the hustle and bustle or organising room turnovers, they still managed to say a cheerful and personable goodbye as I tried to slink out the door.

There was no reception, on arrival and I couldn't find my room which was on a concrete addition and accessed by another door. In that section there were a couple of shady characters, not travellers, more like homeless and they had a fight and were arguing and I felt unsafe around them. Location was good, but the newer section has the atmosphere of a concrete bunker. In winter no indoor lounge.

2-3 stars In short: If you're just looking for a clean place to stay for over night this is probably perfect. Aside from that the hostel really doesn't offer much and it's also no place to get into contact with other backpackers (there's also no age limit and you can even stay there long-term) In detail: 1. The photos of the property are so inaccurate that you struggle to even realize that they're actually in the hostel. 2. Everything is a bit run-down but at least very clean. 3. Rooms are quite good, some even have a fridge, (which isn't really necessary but nevertheless quite cool) 4. The kitchen closes around 10pm, meaning that they actually shut the door (so no cleaning or boiling water whatsoever) which is very annoying if you're coming back late 5. This hostel is devided into 2 buildings which can be quite annoying (depending in where you're room is) 6. Their system to unlock the doors for the rooms is very stupid as you can't open your room at the door but need to go to a scanner which can be very annoying if you're just going to the bathroom or similar. 7. The location is rather close to the airport and there's airplanes flying above the hostel every ~15mins and since they're already quite close to the airport they're very loud. (They fly from roughly 10am until 11pm or sth) 8. Their caretaker can be quite unfriendly and will shut down the lights in the main "hang-out-area" (which is not even a real "hang-out-area but really just some chairs and tables) at around 11pm 9. The location is at best decent (the train station is quite close but that's really it) Edit: Concerning the owner's answer: Qujie is obv not my real life name lol. But even if I hadn't stayed there (which I did, 2 nights), feel free to correct me on any of these points if you feel they're wrong.

Awesome hostel. Very friendly and happy staff. They clean the kitchen, rooms and toilets everyday. Even managers clean the kitchen more than one in a day. Close to shops, pubs and the train station. Free parking on the streets nearby. Guests are mostly from UK and EU. You will find variety of nationalities and very friendly people there. Affordable rates. Highly recommend.

I booked this hostel on Expedia with free cancellation and requested to pay on arrival. I cancelled my stay within the cancellation period and the hostel charged me anyway then refused to refund me. They claim they have their own policy regarding refunds that I was unaware of. This is illegal. I had to get Expedia to refund me in the end as the hostel ignored my calls and refused to cooperate with Expedia. Do not book unless you want to be scammed.

Great. In addition to all the other positive comments regarding the clean rooms and utilities provided (heater, fridge), the whole facility is well tended to. There are plenty of signs around to direct you throughout and using things like the laundry room. There are also rules about alcohol being only permitted in the dining area and having no more then two standard drinks on the premises, which keeps things orderly. Located in a fairly quite area, apart from the birds in the morning that eventually settle down, I've have had restful sleeps during my stay .

Room fan was facing wrong way so bed side no air and was so hot and humid. No one at desk to help after hours.had to catch early flight but unable to sleep. Not worth

Great hostel within walking distance to Stanmore train station. Clean kitchen and big bathrooms. Located in a very quiet residential part of town. There's really no noise after 9-10pm which most will appreciate. Street parking only which can get a bit busy, but you can secure a parking spot if you're willing to walk 5 minutes. The only thing for guests to note is that the bathroom has a 15 minute fan and light timer and once this goes out you need to go back outside to turn it back on. I was in the shower when it went off. Can be dangerous. I would bring a torch or keep your phone close by if you're planning to use the shower in the evening. However, I do highly recommend this place if you need somewhere to stay on a budget. Thanks for a great stay in Sydney

Don't bother. They don't even have reception at 5:30pm even though the website says until 6pm. You have to come before 2pm if you want to discuss long term rates or look at the facilities - not useful if you're travelling for work.

Stayed here long term and loved my stay. Brani and Zorica were very accommodating and made me feel very welcome. Rooms are well equipped with wardrobes and sinks. Great location close to the train station and good social areas to meet other people. Free breakfast was an added bonus, would definitely recommend this hostel.

+ clean and very close to Newtown + cheap - only 4 toilets/showers for the whole hostel - not many communal areas - no outlet or light at the bunks

I enjoyed my stay their really and extended it a lot of times. The staff is very nice and friendly and the hostel is one of the cleanest in Sydney. Furthermore the bathrooms are modern and you'll find everything you need in the kitchen. You can meet their people from lots of different origins. I really would recommend it.

Booked a room last minute as the rate was dirt cheap and stayed for 1 night. In all honesty, had a more pleasant experience and felt more comfort here than any night I could remember at the Hilton or even 5 star accommodations I have tried in the past. Service by Brani at check-in all the way to checkout was so genuine, down to earth and professional. He even granted me an early check-in at 12:00pm no questions asked. 5 stars for value for money & service.

There's no A/C and when I'm typing this comment it's 2AM. I still can't get into sleep as it's too hot :（

Very friendly staff. Nice and tidy rooms. Kitchen and bathrooms cleaned daily. Doing your laundry is possible. Not a party hostel. Stayed here 3 times for a short period, no longer then 3 days, every time a good vibe.
