I'm not a vegan, but you don't have to be one to enjoy the food here. After briefly talking to the friendly staff member about what was available, I ordered a small flat-white with oat-milk, a vegan salmon bagel, and a piece of Biscoff cheesecake. The coffee was very nice, the oat-milk paired well with it. The vegan salmon bagel was delicious, after my meal I asked what the ersatz salmon actually was, to be told that it was marinated tomato. The Biscoff cheesecake was quite enjoyable, a perfect ending to my meal. If you haven't tried eating at a vegan restaurant, Shift Eatery would be an ideal introduction. Recommended.

Best vegan breaky in Sydney. There are hardly any fully vegan options in city, so we were thrilled to find this place! It was worth the 20 min walk from our hotel just to go there. The staff were lovely, and the menu was great for breakfast and lunch. They also had a good range of deli options, such as various vegan cheeses. Also the Biscoff cheesecake was amazing. We loved everything about it!

I ordered the vegan Reuben toasty based on the comments in the reviews, and it didn't disappoint. The flavor was spectacular! I did take away so I had limited interaction with the staff, but the service was great as well. The entire menu looked amazing, and they have some other pre-packaged items for sale. The desserts looked delicious, but sadly I didn't partake. This restaurant is worth visiting!

Good place, I'll go again. Enjoyed the food. Everything is vegan with lots of gluten free options. Some of the staff were a bit clueless, which was frustrating, but everyone. Definitely worth checking out.

The mushroom toastie was truly excellent. Great flavours and presentation. The range of vegan cakes, sweets and deli goods is also great. As someone who wakes up super early I just wished they opened earlier for breakfast!

I made the poke bowl my order and I'm glad I did. It had a fantastic seasoning and was quite filling. I also ordered hot chocolate, which is fine if you don't like sweet beverages. I was glad to discover a nearby vegan and gluten-free-friendly restaurant because I can't eat gluten.

Wow, talk about hidden in plain sight. Don't miss this cafe style eatery. Huge range of vegan food and vegan drinks. Coffee, shakes, smoothies, juices, the lot. I really hope the shift eatery presents a needed shift in dining choices for a cleaner, kinder and more sustainable future. The customer service was exceptional and I was proud to notice the barista wearing a sea Shepard jumper. My house made vegan bacon and egg roll, understandably sells out daily. The vegan new your cheesecake was too rich for breakfast but it looked so good I couldn't miss my brief opportunity in Sydney. I took a vegan meatball and house made marinara sub to go for lunch and to was great, I really enjoyed the plant-based parmesan cheese Funky shirts for sale also Fantastic ❤

We had Thai beef salad and meat ball sub at Shift Eatery. We also had Green machine which I really liked. My bf had Banana salted Caramel. Highly recommend this vegan cafe.

Very nice cafe with a chill playlist. Vegan food; i had the beetroot latte and “salmon” bagel. Was worried I wouldn’t feel full since it was tomatoes replacing the salmon but the serving size was really good! Loved the toasted crunch on the bagel and the cream cheese. All my friends really enjoyed their toasties as well. The smoothies look so good.

Whilst I'm not a vegan, my mate is so he took me here for my first brekky in Sydney. I'm writing this review on my second time here, so clearly he was onto something! There's something immensely satisfying with being able to order things as is from a menu. No substitutions. The fact their standard milk for their coffee is oat milk means I don't need to a change a thing. The toasted sandwiches are amazing. Macarons too. Prices are what you'd expect but for a slap up, healthy meal with no nasties, worth treating yourself.

Reasonable interior in a very close to Central Station location. As an Allium Free Vegan (Onion, Garlic, Leek, Shallot free) I have tried Smoked Tofu Sandwich Toasties, Big Bad Bowl after replace bean with Tofu and Carrot Cake. Tofu Sandwich Toasties is quite tasty. Toast sourdough bread was cooked to the right tender and to the right crusty brown. The Sauce was quite tasty, overall quality is fine. Big Bad Bowl was not recommended. One ingredient was the sauerkraut the shredded cabbage came with an unacceptable smell. While brown rice with quinoa, baked sweet potato and tofu are served warm and green salad are served in reasonable temperature, cherry tomatoes are served chill, this one does not comply with the overall temperature of the bowl. Sweet potato was baked with too strong herbal smell that it nearly lost the original nature of the sweet potato. Carrot cake was too sweet. I don’t think it fit Vegan’s taste of the sweetness.

Amazing vegan sandwiches that you must try when you’re in Surrey Hills. My Shroom Toastie was packed with delicious sautéed mushrooms and slathered with fragrant basil pesto. Steve is a classic Reuben, but vegan and tastier than almost every Reuben I’ve had. My only regret is not arriving earlier to try the best vegan bacon and egg bagel.

Just realised I have never left a review! Hands down my partner and I’s favourite cafe - always a highlight of our day. This place is perfection from the food to the lovely service. Special shout-out to the Reuben, choc muffin and the almighty bacon & egg roll. YUM. x

this is a really solid choice for vegans and the cashew cream cheese is one of the best i've had. i do wish they were a lil more generous with filling here as bagel takes up most of this cross-section 🥯 i also was hoping it to be served in their iconic reusable milk cartons but this just came in a paper bag 😅 i also got the 'my shroom toastie' 🍄 loaded with roasted mushrooms, basil pesto, cheddar, creamy herb sauce & toasted on some sweet sweet sourdough 🍞 delish! check out my food instagram @erinxeats for more!

Peaceful place. Friendly staff and great food. The portions are big. Had my first meal in Sydney here and really liked it. Not many tables but it was not very crowded when I went (Friday afternoon) so there was enough space for everyone.

I have been wanting to try shift eatery for ages. Their menu offers many exciting options for vegetarians/vegans, however the execution was lazy, at least for the bagel sandwiches we ordered. The bagels themselves were perfect, but I think that’s because they use Brooklyn Boy Bagels (the best around Sydney). The filling was not as impressive. We got both options (the lox and bacon egg) and weren’t happy with either. The lox just tasted like a tomato bagel. I’m shocked by how little they did to achieve any sort of similar consistency. It didn’t taste bad, but they should just market it as a bagel with tomato. The bacon egg was better, but the egg tasted like scrambled tofu. I think my biggest issue was the marketing of the items to mimic meat dishes, yet tasting nothing like it. Obviously, we eat here to avoid eating meat, but that doesn’t mean you can sell a bagel as “vegan lox” and have it be indistinguishable from tomato. Just advertise a tofu bagel and tomato bagel if that’s what you’re giving us. I’m so sad to be let this down. Maybe I’ve overhyped it in my head for too long. I think I’ll come back and try one of the sandwiches just to make sure I’m not missing anything.

This vegan cafe impressed me with its well-presented and delicious plant-based offerings. The bagels and sandwiches were particularly noteworthy, demonstrating that vegan food can be just as satisfying and flavorful as their meaty counterparts. One of the standout features here is the ability to enjoy a fully plant-based meal without noticing a significant difference from your favourite meaty dishes. This speaks volumes about the quality and creativity of the menu. If you're curious about vegan cuisine or simply looking for tasty and satisfying options, this cafe is worth a visit. It challenges preconceived notions about vegan food and offers a delightful experience for all types of eaters.

Known for their housemade vegan substitutes, though there are also dishes that are more whole-food plant-based. I enjoyed the food I tried, and the extremely friendly and helpful staff left an impression on me! Really appreciated how their menu catered to people with all preferences - it was clearly labelled with gluten-free, nut-free, and even allium-free options. Cosy small space with indoor and outdoor seating available. There was also a small retail corner. Note that the cafe has a 10% surcharge on weekends and 15% surcharge on public holidays.

One of the best vegan brunch spots in Sydney. Hard to critique as it has a wide menu with something for everyone, tasty dishes, and good coffee. I'm a regular and highly recommend!

  • 3/5 Ankur P. 2 years ago on Google
The service was really friendly and the food and coffee were also good. However $18 for the meatball sub was expensive comparative to other places around. It was more of a six inch sub with 4 meatballs. Nothing on the side as well. I liked my visit but had to spend $16 more for another take away sandwich. Overall it was a good experience in this nice cute cafe.

Had the Reuben and cheese toasting here. The Sangas were abit of a disappointment - I was hoping they would have a little more flavour. The cheese toasting wasn't melty and the Reuben was a little dry. Overall, staff were friendly, ambience was nice but food wasn't worth the cost. There are better vegan options out there.

Wow! One of the best vegan, plant based restaurants ever! They also have gluten free options which I usually go for but the owner sold me on the sour dough bread. The sandwiches were awesome, couldn’t eat them fast enough. The pad Thai noodle bowl was also really tasty and filling. Finished it off with the gluten free brownie , wow! The vibe was really nice and chill and had kind of an upbeat overtone of music which seems to keep the staff hopping and dancing around.

Great place to get Coffee, I'm not too sure about the bagel though. The bagel is a bit bland, a hint of bbq sauce but the bun is good. The servers are super friendly and the owner is nice as well. It be nice if he ask for feedback but In My opinion it's great service. Would visit again.

Breakfast for 2 on a Saturday. Neither are vegan. Pros 1. No animals harmed directly. 2. Nice spot as a hole in the wall. 3. Nice coffee and reuben. 4. Quick service. Cons 1. Deceptive "scan and pay" on each table, which costs about a dollar more per item. 2. One dimensional vegan bacon & egg bagel. Compared to the reuben it was bland and more bread than filling. It was disappointing. TLDR: Nice vegan hole in the wall, but skip the bacon and egg bagel. EDIT 24/2 (in response to Shift Eatery reply): There is no indication about it on their website, and in rather small print on the physical menu (which we did not notice as it was a distance on the fridge). The surcharge was not even mentioned at the time of ordering at the counter. This is worse. We might not have eaten there had we known about the surcharge. A star was taken off to reflect this.

Great place for vegans and also plenty of gluten free options too! I enjoyed the big breakfast, it was so tasty and the chai was just wholesome! I also had the biscoff cake which was amazing! The service was good too and food came out pretty quick. Will come here again when i visit Sydney!

Had the 🍄 My Shroom toastie and 🪷Masala Chai with oat milk. Both phenomenal - one of those ‘how on earth is this vegan’ moments. Tried my friends ‘salmon’ bagel and that was bomb too. Next time have to try the other bagel that sells out all the time. Cafe atmosphere is a vibe too, small I guess but in case you miss out on seating there are a plethora of lovely parks in the area, just take a keep cup to transport your coffee ;) Only got one snap of my toastie will get more snap happy next time 😋 without question a revisit - can’t wait to try more of their menu soon

This place is a necessity. It’s truly a diamond in the the rough - amidst an ever growing city, yet a city with even fewer 100% vegan cafes than there used to be - getting a convenient, healthy and delicious (vegan) meal has never been more essential in this city. You can tell this place is built on a passion. The food says it all. Tasty, fresh, thoughtful and original yet mixed with classic veganized favourites done really well. The staff are always friendly and helpful and patient which makes the atmosphere very comfortable and easy. Everything you could want in a city cafe. We found out about Shift Eatery in it’s first week of opening & we’ve been adoring customers ever since. Now we’ve moved out of Sydney but we still make sure we visit at every opportunity we have. The Myshroom Toastie, Ruben’s brother Steve & the bagels are some of my most ordered yummies but pretty much every time I find it hard decide out of all the goodness! I love everything ! And now even more dessert choices ! Man! I wish we lived nearby again ! Or maybe you guys should just open up more locations !! Thank you for existing Shift Eatery and providing us with so many wholesome, ethical, tasty & comforting meals and super delicious treats!

Lemon meringue tart was definitely a highlight!! It was lemony without being too sweet. Great with their good coffee. Bacon and egg bagel was delicious 😋 we liked it better than the vegan reuben, but it is still great. Overall, they were yummy and we'd come back for more! Plus they are all vegan! Yaaayy!

One of my favourite places to go for a brunch in Sydney, it's just perfect in every way. Small and cozy, the food is delicious every single time, the staff are friendly and helpful. The sandhwiches were great ! The rueben sandwhich was carried by the pickles and sauerkraut in terms of flavour and texture. The "meaty" filling was pretty well seasoned however. Though I really enjoyed the ham and cheese toastie ! The tomato and ham were balanced. Price is high so I am unsure if it is really worth it when one can get a large custom sandwhich (of course without the fancy vegan meat alternatives) in the surrounding area. I wish there were some sides like chips added as whilst filling felt a tad pricey. The coffee was great however! Full bodied roasted flavour.

Well, finally tried their bacon and egg bagel (always sold out by the time I get there) and I can 100% confirm it’s the best one I’ve tried in 5 years of being vegan. Wonderful place and legendary staff. I’ll be here every time I’m in Sydney. Thanks Shift! PS. No photo because I ate it before I could get the camera out!

It’s great having a vegan cafe so central. The sandwiches are great - the mushroom pesto and the Rueben are my favourites, the smoothies are super fresh, the biscoff cheesecake is a must, and I just discovered they do an unsweetened chai latte which is also great! Friendly staff too.

Cosy little vegan eatery with a small but dedicated menu and a few delicious sweet treats on display. I had the ‘meetball sub’ and it was yummy! Lovely home made marinara sauce, lightly toasted hoagie roll, scrumptious plant based ‘meat’balls and some vegan parmesan to top it all off. Good size portion that hit the spot for my lunchtime munchies. The service was also wonderful. Keen to return and try some of the other toasties and sandwiches on offer.

One of Sydney's best plant-powered places ? Try the Reuben if you feel like sandwich or if you're more that muesli kinda person give get the Choc Bircher, it is incredible - one of the best mueslis I've ever had!!! So crunchy, yummy and full of taste - definitely not your journal muesli ? All vegan with heaps of gluten-free options, even waffles ? PS did I mention their little deli... vegan cheeze, guess there's nothing more to add ? Finally their bacon & egg bagels looked incredible! Didn't try, so just mentioning if someone feels like a plant-based bacon & egg taste check. Enjoy x

I've been wanting to get to Shift Eatery for months and I was not disappointed. The staff were friendly, the menu fantastic and space pretty good (though music was maybe slightly too loud). After much deliberation, I settled on the full breakfast with a protein smoothy. I can't describe how awesome it is, you have to try for yourself. My mum had the 'bacon and egg' roll which she loved. Vegan food at its best and 5 stars from me.

We had a stop over in Sydney and wanted to have a walk and get something delicious. Shift Eatery has very good vegan friendly savoury foods and a great range of thick smoothies. Sweet or savoury I'd highly recommend. Inside there is a few fridges selling vegan ingredients to take home and put together something yourself, a welcome option.

This little deli sells EVERYTHING (vegan), there are two refrigerators dedicated to vegan cold/frozen goods which I think available for customers to buy and bring home (think Suzy Spoon, Gardein, etc). Located conveniently close to central, it is the perfect to go lunch and introduction to vegan world. Waiters were friendly and proud of what they serve. Recommended and will return

I had the Cappuccino with almond milk and My Shroom Toastie. The vibe of the cafe is so nice, the staff were attentive! Rushed in desperately seeking “regular” flat white, but hey, when you stumble into “Vegania”, you stop and smell the vegetables, right? ;) Great coffee, both espresso and (first time!) oat milk flat white. Felt a *bit* thinner textured than full cream cow, with less of the sweetness that heated cow milk sugars deliver. I like the very slightly oaty-dusty finish on it. Less intrusive than the nuttiness of soy milk (as I remember it). They have a vegan deli fridge section - with Things in it that I’ve never seen before. No vegan here but I was tempted by their souvenir T-shirt (which was not in the fridge, just to be clear). Brownies and sandwiches looked great but that will have to wait for another day!

This is one of my most favourite Vegan Cafes. Great menu ❤️ Friendly service, great ambience. I have been to this cafe twice! My favourite dish is the pad thai salad ? This place is in Surry Hills in Central Sydney. The food was delicious! and they got pretty superfood latte, below is the butterfly latte. All the vegans in Sydney should hit this place.

The buffalo jackfruit sub is unreal, add pineapple and prepare to have your mind blown. A perfect combo of flavours and textures. Go try it ASAP. This place can get busy at lunch but it’s worth waiting for a table. Great coffee, cold brew, and vegan deserts too. Nutie donuts. ? Plus, the staff are super friendly and work hard to serve everyone efficiently. 5 stars all around.

👍 Best restaurant for South Indian dishes. Worth a try of Biryani. Tried Tandoori Soya today and it was the best I ever had here. Egg65 Biryani was so tasty. Crispy Baby corn was bad seemed like it was not fresh. You should not let your standards drop.
