The atmosphere was nice and the staff were lovely. I’m giving it a low rating because it was so expensive for tiny plates of food. I came here with friends and we spent $50 each. We left hungry and got food elsewhere to fill up afterward. Here is a photo of $32 quail for reference (with the head and nails on the plate which is an interesting choice)

Marrickville is so frikkin in, it doesn't talk to people like me. This place is a bessa block cavern, next to a huge poultry processing plant, near a bunch of boutique breweries, and a secret cinema that shows random films that few know. Perfect! The fit out is neat shabby chic, and the staff all between 27 and 28yo. Efficient and happier than an acquitted felon. The food is hit and miss. The hummus works well, though the promised funky accents barely break a sweat on the dance floor of my tastebuds. The salad is similarly stand offish. Perhaps if the onions were held back, and the other flavour ingredients cut for flavour, we may get somewhere. The pricey tarama on brioche is just about worth the jump, though again, the accents fall behind. No holding back the eggplant with rockmelon emulsion and passionfruit. The eggplant hasn't been cured, so the back of my mouth was attacked. The flavour profiles simply don't work. They're as cohesive as a working party of flies in a jar. No idea what they were thinking, or my friend for ordering it. There's some good things happening here...they're only a few tweaks away from linking the hype to the perbole.

If I could sum up this place I'd say this: great concept, disappointing food. I grew up in the Middle East, and had a lot of delicious traditional dishes as well as Middle Eastern fusions. The food here is just meh. For people that want to try other Middle Eastern foods in Sydney: For some traditional Middle Eastern dishes, I recommend Lazeez or el-Manara in Lakemba. If you don't feel like venturing off too far to the west then I recommend Koshari Korner in Marrickville or Cairo Takeaway (try their falafel and maqluba - they're amazing!) in Newtown.

I seriously don’t understand how this place got 4.2 stars. There must be a lot of sponsored posts. Food portion is unbelievable small, considering the price. The $54 lamb looks like a starter size, taste is very average as well. Do not recommend!

Atmosphere is trendy new age oh so Marrickville 2.0 Think a factory unit retasked with a sparkling kitchen and furniture straight from a 1980s dinning room. The sound track is what the DJ would be spinning at a Baghdad rave between incoming Artillery rounds. The real star backing up the feel of the place is the food. Global Fusion meets hand picked all star Mid Eastern Favourites. Want Egg Plant done right come here, Want Homus that is awfully good come here. Other notable dishes include a daring Bullabaise Bolognaise full marks for this gem that is everything you knew but awesomely different. A Pork, A Fish and few other states make up the very focused less is more style menu. Desert was a 2 choice less than appealing offering if anything this is the only area that needs a bit more focus to be at the same heights as the rest of the food. A range of cocktails and interesting wines round out the menu. Service is a bit erratic though the place is literally overrun with customers. A solid reason to indulge in the contemporary Marrickville scene....( A good destination after a solid session at a few of the local Brew houses. )

Hard to fault this place. The atmosphere is phenomenal, with the dining room resplendent in all too familiar table wear. The food is next level in terms of taste and presentation with all dishes ordered super tasty and flavourful. The staff are friendly and knowledgeable. Great selection of wine

Some info on the internet makes it seem like this place is for Lebanese food, but it is actually an international melting pot. Raw tuna with Moroccan seasoning was a good place to start. We ordered the tarama on toast as well which was yum but overpriced for what it was. Next came the bolognese which blew both of those out of the water. The flavors and freshness were incredible. Next favorite was the beef skewer which literally melted in your mouth and was enough to share. Had a couple of other sides with wine from Georgia, and ended with a delicious pear tart. Definitely a Marrickville funky international vibe done right, and the decor makes you feel like you’re somewhere in Eastern Europe. Loved the experience.

Excellent and unique ambiance and setting unlike most other places in Sydney. Sat at the bar and was able to take in the open kitchen and got to watch my dishes be prepared in front of me. Food was excellent with the fish of the day and chips standing out the most.

Marrickville is a thriving constellation of pocket rockets and hidden treasures and baba’s is no exception. Not a bad thing on the menu. We loved the scallops, the chicken with toum, the pan fried noodles and so much more and finished with the marvellous sundae. Look it just has a vibe - down a narrow street in the heart of those small industrial units that would otherwise be bereft of activity after hours. Oh and the wagyu beef. Don’t miss it. Such a good aura from this one.

Nice atmosphere. That’s all There are a lot of reviews with low ratings because it's pricey and small portions, but I think the price is reasonable with the atmosphere here. The problem is…. Food wasn’t not nice. *Lamb and sauce didn’t go well together I usually enjoy lamb, but this sauce made the smell of lamb funny *The chicken was tender and juicy but the glazed sauce was a strange combination. It was like a korean fried chicken lol *middle eastern scented beef tartare made me miss other restaurant’s beef tartare like hubert or hello auntie *Potatoes is potatoes Here is hidden hip place for instagram but better try to develop a menu.

I was impressed with the food and decor. It’s something completely unique which I love. I had the set menu and the tarama toast and labne was my favourite. The noodles was too salty for me though and didn’t like the pumpkin dessert. Service was great though! I am off drinking at the moment and they gave me some really nice mango mocktail that had dried mango bits in it.

A real hidden gem located in the back streets of Marrickville. Menu seems a little unusual, but trust me you are in for a treat. Highlight was the Tarama on toast, Rice noodles, Whole fish and White chocolate and pumpkin ganache 🤤 Loved the decor, and overall vibe of the restaurant. Service was attentive.

Food delicious, was definitely on the heavier side and we were grateful for our servers recommendation of the salad with the lamb. Service was quick and friendly. Liked watching the open kitchen in action. Pictured focaccia with yogurt dip, Tarama toast, rare beef (my favourite), potatoes, lamb

Fabulous restaurant in Marrickville. Food is delicious, love their take on a Labne Martini and the Margarita with Sumac is fab. What makes this restaurant stand out is the arty vibe and the quirky decor. Service is excellent. Highly recommend.

We sat at the open kitchen bar for dinner - it was a great spot to witness all the action and added to the atmosphere. Seems like a great team with a relaxed but professional vibe. The food was delicious! Fit out is great, so much to look at and love all the details. Very yum and fun :)

A very cool warehouse transformed into your grandmother's kitchen. Even though granny wouldn't charge you this much to eat at her place, the atmosphere is definitely homely, the food is delicious, and the cocktails lean into the Middle Eastern flavours. Stand-outs are old-faithful charcoal chicken and the tarama on toast.

Oh my gawd! This place was incredible. The funky decor and mismatched crockery really gives you old school home made meals. Food was delicious and service was too notch! Will definitely be back for some more lamb

Baba’s place is an awesome foodie experience with a great atmosphere and excellent service. It has a collection of old furniture that makes it look like your grandma’s place… especially if she is from an old Greek, Italian, Lebanese or Macedonian village. The food is excellent: every dish tastes like home - though a couple were more on the smallish side. I loved every moment here! Thanks for a fantastic night

Easily one of my favourite restaurants. This cool inner west restaurant has everything you want all in one place, delicious food, drinks and music. Can't wait to go back.

Baba's Place is a really unique space. Coming here is taking a step back in time and re-experience your grandparents' place when you were a kid (if you were as lucky as me and had a family that immigrated). The menu itself is very diverse and does a great job at showing a cross section of many different cultures which made their way over to Australia through the 20th century. Where can you find rice noodles, home made labne, taramasalata, curry leaf lamb and pavlova all in the same menu? Baba's is a place of comfort for your inner child and your tastebuds.

We went for a relaxed Sunday lunch for 8 people and Baba’s delivered with an original atmosphere of nostalgic kitsch, warm service and flavour-filled dishes. The olive oil they use is addictive. An impressive wine list added to the experience. Baba’s place is now our place.

What an amazing experience. 50’s chic meets warehouse cool - so good. The food is brilliant - such an inventive array of dishes. I’m not sure what the one star reviews complaining about serving sizes are on about. The dishes are generous and bloody delicious. To top it off you’re made to feel as if you’ve been invited into a big loving family’s happy home. Can’t wait to go back.

Decor is rustic, warm semi 1960s vibe… like having dinner at grandmas place. Tarama on toast was excellent. Interesting fusion of flavours. Market Fish (snapper) - unique flavours bouncing off the palette, Lamb Loin - least favourite. Was extremely fatty and off putting to eat. That white chocolate / pumpkin ganache was amazing. I could have more and more. Never had pumpkin in a dessert, I’d definitely re-order it. SERVICE = mediocre

It’s like stepping back into a well kept time warp. With it, the comfort and enjoyment of being in Baba’s home. A unique take on old family favourites. The food is heavenly, you can taste all of the elements. The serveware looks like it came from my Yiayas home. The open kitchen is lovely to see. Wine was okay, quite pricey. Would come back for the food.

Good food and love the basic warehouse feeling. Tips: upstairs room misses the fun, avoid sitting there if you want the atmosphere. Also on busy days, may not get what you have ordered on time...other than that would def recommend to a friend.

I come from North London and this is the only decent Turkish kebab I’ve had in South London! Five star service, five star food, the waitresses are lovely, the doner TOP notch, the chicken was perfectly cooked and tender, the decor is fab and spotlessly clean everywhere! Thank you for a fun evening with decent prices. Knocks spots off Gullen’s, which was my fave before. Won’t hesitate to come again or get a takeaway.

👍 Best restaurant for South Indian dishes. Worth a try of Biryani. Tried Tandoori Soya today and it was the best I ever had here. Egg65 Biryani was so tasty. Crispy Baby corn was bad seemed like it was not fresh. You should not let your standards drop.
