Beautiful place and close to Sydney. Almost always not crowded at all. Entire National Park is beautiful but do stop at Hacking river, Winifred Falls and Wattamolla Falls/Beach. The grand pacific drive is amazing with sea views. On a hot day you can bathe under Winifred Falls.

Absolutely stunning walks for all skill levels. We went on a day it was raining so there were very few people around. Still great views and the weather didn't stop us from appreciating them. We went to the Wattamolla car park and walked to the beach and the lookout. Will be back for a longer walk when the weather picks up!

The first national park in Australia, renamed after the 1954 visit of Queen Elizabeth. This park features incredible unmatched sweeping coastal views of seemingly artistically molded sandstone cliffs contrasted with strikingly blue water and white crashing waves. We did the Royal Coastal Walk and did 14 mile hike - so we barely saw this place at all and were amazed. Go to the website for a full idea of all the amazing things out here - the camping spots, world class beaches, aboriginal sites, natural pools and waterfalls. Bring plenty of water - none to be had on most of the trail and you may want to use the good facilities at the trail head as it will be a while before you see anymore.

Popular national park with royal coastal walk and famous fingure 8 pool. Just follow google map to reach the head of the trail. From here you can choose different walks that suit you. Suitable for all ages. I saw many kids and elderly along the trails too. Parking is $12 for whole day. If you do the figure 8 pool, ensure to check the tide ahead. Only go during low tide (early morning is the best if you want to avoid the crowd too). It can get very dangerous with unexpected strong wave and higher tide so definitely be careful. People died here before at figure 8 pool. Rocky parts, so ensure you wear proper shoes as it can ger slippery. Otherwise, pretty easy walk. We took 40 mins to walk down and 55 mins to walk up but it was a chill good day and we did it pretty quickly. You should allow around 2-3 hrs return for the trip.

Royal National Park is a gem just a couple of hour drive or train ride from the city of Sydney. It was a great experience to hike and see amazing scenic points in between, beautiful coastal walk and beautiful beaches. The hike to the Figure 8 Pool requires moderate fitness level and a must do while in Sydney. Don’t forget to check the tides before you go. Some people also camp there to explore the whole National Park which should be a great experience if you’re a camper. If not, you can do day trips to explore the different parts of the park. Highly recommend it.

We went to see Wattamolla Falls Wattamolla Beach & Wattamolla Dam. Wattamolla Falls is a short 10minute walk from the Carpark.Wattamolla Dam was a little hike about 15 mins but through bush, you need to have joggers or good grip shoes as you need to cross a small fall at the beginning to start the walk. There is some path but also a few rocks to go over..Absolutely stunning falls, beach & dam.Lots of fun & beautiful fresh sometimes a mix of salt water from the beach..A must see. It is in The Royal National Park so there is a fee of $12 per car. Toilets,BBQ's table & chairs available & entry of shade.. Best by far!☺️

Only did the bundeena to weeding cake rock track and that already took up half a day return (including photo time). You can spend a whole week there just to hike. Amazing view.

A great little gem so close to the city. If you haven't been here before, it is a must - for a quick day trip or swim, or a short camping 🏕️ gateway. The old and the young will enjoy.

Fantastic experience in a little secluded cove for an Australia Day celebration with friends and family. If you come to here, make sure you take all your rubbish with you to preserve the beauty of this spot. Leave nothing but footprints and other people will be able to enjoy it as much as you.

Amazing, breathtaking experience. Great scenery, fantastic nature trails, and beautiful wildlife. The call of the kookaburra never gets old. Went on a perfect day and welcomed the lack of phone reception. The peaceful sounds of nature, the wildlife, the plant and ocean scenery all combined for an experience I'll never forget. I wanted to give myself more time to see more of the trails, but I'll definitely be back. Strongly recommend.

The second oldest national park in the world, the Royal offers pristine bush land, walking trails and a beautiful river. Please don’t risk your life for a photo at wedding cake rock and ensure that you make sensible choices at figure 8 pools! It can be dangerous if you don’t plan your hikes so please take enough water with you and leave behind only your footprints ?

It took us 1 hour to walk to the wedding cake rock. Too bad that we can't actually take a photo on top of the wedding cake rock now. It is dangerous now since there's already some crack there, and it might fall anytime. But nevertheless, beautiful view on the way there cheers us up. It was really sunny when we started walking there, but it suddenly got a bit chilly because a thick mist appeared out of nowhere. It clears up when we were walking back. The weather can change anytime. Just be sure to bring your water before you go.

The 37,290-acre Royal National Park was established in 1879, making it the oldest national park in the world after Yellowstone in the USA. Stretching inland from 20 miles (32km) of beautiful coast, it encompasses pockets of subtropical rainforest, windblown coastal scrub, sandstone gullies dominated by gum trees, freshwater and saltwater wetlands, secluded beaches and dramatic cliffs. Traditionally the home of the Dharawal people, there are also numerous Aboriginal sites and artifacts. Walking trails include the spectacular 16-mile (two-day) Coast Track. Most beaches are unpatroled, and rips can make them dangerous. Garie, Wattamolla, Era, South Era and Burning Palms are popular surf beaches, and Werrong Beach is clothing optional.

This is one of my favourite National Parks to visit. There are so many places to go, things to see and do here. My favourite would be the beautiful coastal walk from wattamolla beach to eaglehead rock. The views along the coast are amazing and if you are lucky you might spot some whales. We will be going back here and doing some more hikes and activities. It was $12 admission for the day into the park. Plenty of parking at the places we went. A lot of nature in the park to enjoy. Be careful of snakes. Love this park.

Absolutely stunning National park with beautiful walks and scenery, highly recommend the coastal walk. The 3 star review is for the national parks authority who do not have the appropriate signage or facilities to pay when entering with a vehicle over 8 seats before 7am We are a yoga group of 16 people that entered at 6:30am with no signs relating to bus entry we payed out $12 admission fee, we are not a commercial group but on the following Monday I received a call stating because I was conducting commercial activities I would have to pay $74.80. That I had to pay over the phone as there was no other way to do it. If you would like to charge people for entering in groups and doing yoga in the National park you should at least have the facilities or signage relevant.

Royal National Park is a breathtaking natural wonder located just outside of Sydney, Australia. As one of the world's oldest national parks, it offers visitors an exceptional experience filled with stunning landscapes, diverse wildlife, and a range of recreational activities. One of the most impressive aspects of Royal National Park is its sheer beauty. The park boasts a stunning coastline that stretches for miles, featuring pristine beaches, dramatic cliffs, and crystal-clear waters. The scenic views are truly awe-inspiring and provide ample opportunities for photography enthusiasts to capture the perfect shot. The park's diverse flora and fauna are another highlight. Walking through the lush rainforests, you'll encounter a variety of plant species, from towering eucalyptus trees to vibrant wildflowers. Wildlife enthusiasts will be delighted by the chance to spot kangaroos, wallabies, and a plethora of bird species, making it a paradise for nature lovers. Royal National Park also offers an array of activities for outdoor enthusiasts. Hiking trails crisscross the park, catering to all levels of fitness. Whether you're embarking on a leisurely walk or a challenging trek, you'll be rewarded with breathtaking vistas along the way. Additionally, the park offers excellent opportunities for swimming, fishing, cycling, and picnicking, ensuring there's something for everyone to enjoy. The park's facilities and infrastructure are well-maintained, with picnic areas, barbecue facilities, and visitor centers scattered throughout. The staff is knowledgeable and friendly, providing valuable information about the park's history, trails, and wildlife. One aspect to consider is the park's popularity, particularly on weekends and holidays. Due to its proximity to Sydney, it can get quite crowded during peak times. To fully appreciate the park's tranquility, visiting on weekdays or during the off-peak season is recommended. In conclusion, Royal National Park is a true gem that offers a captivating natural experience. Its breathtaking landscapes, diverse wildlife, and range of recreational activities make it a must-visit destination for locals and tourists alike. Whether you're seeking adventure or simply want to immerse yourself in nature's beauty, this park will exceed your expectations.

Hidden Southern Sydney Gem. The entrance to the Figure of Eight Rock Pools. During the Pandemic, the Royal National Park People have been upgrading accessibility to All Who Dare to Venture in the World's First National Park.! The traditional wooden steps have been beautifully replaced by Sydney's Beautiful Sandstone. More long lasting, more robust to at least another Century or two of footwear. Excellent sandstone drainage compliments the big chunky Golden Sydney Sandstone Steps.! Let's Heritage List this Stairway to Burning Palms, Era Beach, Garie Beach. Remember, the Golden Sydney Sandstone Stairs will become Golden Sands of our Southern Sydney Beaches.

Busy hike worth going early Morning - probably avoid mid day as the sun is relentless along this stretch with not Much shade. Walk is fairly moderate difficulty with some sealed parts and some more bare bones Views are spectacular

  • 5/5 John C. 3 years ago on Google
This is a great national park with a variety of micro-environments from the walking tracks to the beach, the Figure 8 pools, the camping areas and the coastal cliff top walks are all excellent with great staff in the information centres this is definitely worth more than one day. You can also catch a train to Waterfall from Central Station if you don't drive down and walking to the park although I wouldn't recommend doing so with little kids because it's a fairly long walk.

One of the absolute hidden gems of Sydney. I stumbled across this by accident driving to the wrong place. I kept to the Harbour and ended up running through the whole of Sydney Harbour National Park. The highlights included running along the cliffs and looking out through the Heads and also the old 1800's steps as you head up into the Spit. This is a must for both locals and visitors to Sydney. Amazing.

Best place to visit in a group of family or friends. I took a bus from central train station. It was stop D which takes you all the way to Cronulla train station. You could also take train but it was not in service when I was travelling. From Cronulla, you need to take a ferry named "BunC" which will take $7.10 per head and will drop you at Bundeena Ferry station. From there, you need to use either arrows on the street or Google map to reach the trekking path. Don't worry, you will see a toilet where you can change clothes and and use it before starting your journey. From there, it is almost 14 to 15km of walk and almost 25000 steps precisely from the starting point till the ending point. On your way, you will see breathtaking ? views of the seashore and mountains. You can also relax at different points including Wedding Cake Rock and some beaches too. At the ending point, you can take a bus, which will take $9 per head and will drop you to Bundeena Ferry station. From there, you need to take the "BunC" ferry all the way to Cronulla. And from there, you can search which mode of transport you need to choose till your place.

This place is accessible only on Friday to Sunday. Rest all other days this place is closed for Deer Management. The cars will be parked at Wattamolla waterfall car park which has a public toilet and barbeque. And from car park level 5, the walk begins. We should walk for around 3.3 Kms, crossing three mountains and following the walking paths. The place doesn't have any signboards to guide and no mobile network will be available. Keep going and follow the crowd until you reach the very last Eagle Rock and Twin Falls point and enjoy the beauty of nature. Keep your luggage very light and carry some water and food. The serenity of the place is taken care really well and we should do our part by not littering. Best one day trip from Sydney and a must visit place!!

Sydneysiders consider the royal national park as their own backyard. Only or less than 40 minutes away from most sydney Districts, offering amazing picnic areas, small beaches, lookouts, water falls and many more attractions that sure will make your day or weekend special. Though it needs a bit of planning before you go. Where you ate going to park and what areas are accessible from your parking location, and if you have a bram for your kid, etc. Parking is $12 per day for most of Audley whole picnic area and bundeena picnic area, I have no idea about the rest as did not explore all locations yet. If you have any recommendations drop a comment and share your ideas. Peace out.

A friend and I did the Otford station to figure 8 pool circuit the day after the solstice on a partially cloudy day. It was absolutely beautiful, with breathtaking views and a range of landscapes. There's something for everyone here. Would recommend this walk in winter on a weekday and make sure to wait a few days after rain as it was a bit muddy when in the valleys. I like doing big walks like this (6 hours, a lot of hills) in winter as I don't personally need to drink much water compared to in summer. Make sure if going in winter to check sun set time and last light so you can time yourself correctly and don't end up walking in the dark. When that last ray of light is gone the temp will drop quickly, so make sure you bring layers.
