Free entry museum that is incredibly quiet clean and well maintained. The museum spans multiple floors from modern art to historical displays in the museum section covering everything from Ancient China, Pompeii, Egypt to taxidermied animals. Beautiful and educational, a must visit.

This is without doubt a world class museum almost hiding in plain sight. You will need about 2-3 hours to do it justice. Here are at least 4 fabulous reasons to visit: 1. the astonishing depth of some of the collections, in particular the ancient Roman, Greek and Egyptian artefacts. Well laid out and explained; 2. the interesting curation and juxtaposition of pieces and art across cultures and time in the Power Gallery gives fascinating insight into the complexity of our world; 3. the museum building itself - the pared back modernist design which is diametrically opposite the ornate Gothic design of the old Great Hall (the two buildings mirror each other in so many ways). Inside the Chau Chak Wing is airy, spacious and galleries flow well together around the almost quadrangled internal void - there’s something to see at every angle; 4. It’s free. It almost feels like it shouldn’t be. My only thought was that the museum shop should perhaps champion more Australian/indigenous ware but this is a small quibble.

For visitors traveling to Sydney, this attraction is almost as important to see as the opera. There are numerous unusual monuments in this free museum that have been brought to USyd or given from all around the world. Even though I saw the majority of items in the old museum in the Quadrangle, the new museums provide richer content, bigger spaces, and lighting that nothing but transports you far with the history of the objects you keep seeing, as if it were a time machine. Without exaggeration, I have been coming here for four days straight, but I still think it needs more and more. The University of Sydney and the benefactor have done a great job, and without a doubt, this is the best museum in Sydney.

An excellent museum within the grounds of University of Sydney. I was surprised to see that the museum was free to enter upon my arrival. A great afternoon with a cafe on premises.

A nice museum located in the University of Sydney. The Mummy room is a must visit with an interactive CT scan of the mummy of a boy! Apart from the mummy room, there are exhibitions on animals, Ancient Greece artifacts etc There is no entry fee and booking is not required.

Loved it and it's free! Such a diverse interesting collection of artifacts and art. All the displays are clearly described but found the Egyptian one most fascinating. Easily takes an hour and a half to meander through. Great coffee in the Cafe.

One of the lesser known museums hidden inside Sydney university. I didn’t know this place existed until actively looking for places to visit for my 8 year old. Totally worth a visit. Old Egyptian collection previously stored in the quadrangle 20 plus year ago is now here, plus many other exhibits. Great place to visit after my 8 year old became all too familiar with everything inside the Australian and powerhouse museums. Parking was a pain for me though, had to setup a new parking app.

Great museum. Looks deceivingly small from the outside, but there's actually a substantial amount of items on display inside. Four floors of expertly curated items. Had a great experience. Free entry too.

Small but very worthwhile museum @ Sydney University. Free entry and easy to get to. Some fantastic exhibits: mummies, an incredibly detailed Lego model of Pompeii (with humorous additions, such as Pink Floyd playing in the Colosseum) and some great aboriginal artefacts. There are also numerous head-scratching cases of stuffed cockatoos and other wildlife, but overall a wonderful experience. Particularly recommended for families.

The new SU museum! Big shiny, concrete monolith juxtapose with the quad. The galleries are nicely set out without too many items - signs are clear and simple. Great toilets and a good parents room!

Free entry. Very quiet what with COVID, rain and holidays. Had a good look through all the displays. Something for everyone I think. The Egyptian artifacts were brilliant, and a lot of the Greek and Roman displays were very good. Could’ve spent another 2 hours revisiting a lot of the displays there was quite a lot there but fam got a bit hungry. Thoroughly enjoyed our time there today. Highly recommend!

A concise and thoughtfully constructed collection in a magnificent, modern venue. I really enjoyed my time exploring the museum observing artefacts from Mesopotamia to colonial bird egg collections to contemporary art installations. Particularly enjoyed the top floor which houses a collection of indigenous artworks and artefacts

Amazing collection of Aboriginal works, antiquities, and natural science specimens. Add in artworks, university teaching aids, a Lego recreation of Pompeii, and a cafe/restaurant, and you have everything you need to wile away a day

It’s weird that me, being a senior student, is writing a review for a place they had visited for an Ancient History excursion on the 1st of June 2022, but I believe this museum deserves a 5 star review. I unfortunately underestimated this museum for some odd reason and only wanted to go to the excursion so I can participate with my Ancient History class and we haven’t had an excursion in ages, however within the first step I walked in, my mind had completely changed. The entire museum is filled with ancient artefacts, and we mainly focused on ancient Rome. The man who had educated us on the artefacts had provided some very interesting and mind-blowing facts, such as telling us that Augustus from Ancient Rome does not look like the statue we know him of at all. We also saw the Lego Pompeii. It was very interesting to look at, my classmates and I were just admiring its amazing details for 10 minutes straight. Many other artefacts had taken our attention, and I had taken some pictures of them which will be posted below my review. I would certainly come back if I were to make plans on a free day!

The museum is a brand new building. Nice cafe on site if you want to have a quick meeting. The museum collection covers a little bit of everything. Art, history (mostly Roman and Egyptian) and natural science (animals and bugs).

A very shocking museum! It contains the cultural heritage of China, ancient Rome, Egypt and Greece. At the same time, there are art exhibitions, photography exhibitions and biological specimen exhibitions in the museum. You can walk around for two to three hours without feeling tired at all. The introduction of each product is very detailed, which can be described as perfect! What impressed me the most was that the mummy of a seven-year-old boy not only had a detailed introduction but also attached his X-ray picture. It gave me a deeper understanding of mummies. In short, thanks to the staff in the museum, it is you who keep this museum in order.

I love visiting museums. This was definitely one of my faves! Free entrance. I am fascinated with their mummy room. They have a real mummy preserved in there! Coooool! Learned a lot from Egyptian culture. Also, I love their cafe. Nice selection of food. Will come back once there are new installations to visit. 🏛️♥️

Amazing how this place is free! Was pleasantly surprised by the amount of old artifacts available in this museum. Located right by the main driveway entrance of the University of Sydney, it's a good 1-2 hour visit if you're looking for something to do/pass time. They have a lot of ancient artifacts across ~3 floors of galleries. Loved my visit here.

This is such an interesting museum to visit. Unfortunately I was pressed for time so will have to make a return visit which I certainly intend to do. The collection has an amazing Egyptology section which is well displayed but also it has some impressive Greek and Roman items plus more recent items such as measuring tools dating from the early 20th century There is also a very pleasant café there together with a small shop. Highly recommended.

I really loved this space. Fantastic free exhibitions, beautiful layouts and amazing natural lighting. Rich art and artifacts from history all over the world. Education should be free, and everyone should go visit this museum and learn something new, I know I did.

Fabulous clean and fresh museum with an eclectic and interesting collection. Great for the kids as there’s enough to keep them interested but it’s not huge and overwhelming. Awesome mummy and Egyptology section with a few mummy pieces and a cool interactive internal digital scan of a child mummy. Cafe is small but friendly.

A must visit for anyone interested in ancient Egyptian, Roman, Greek, Chinese and Near East history! Pots, busts, mummies, tablets, paintings, there's pretty much everything! There's a small natural history section as well, as well as some Indigenous artefacts. This place doesn't feel like it should be free to enter.

A free museum in the university grounds. Great for families as it has an amazing variety of exhibits. The Egyptian mummies were fascinating. Cafe was reasonably priced and family friendly. We would go again as we ran out of time to see it all .

We visited the museum for the children’s Egyptian Amulet maki g workshop. I’m sorry to say that it was poorly organised. People had arrived early and taken all the beads and trinkets for themselves and those that arrived on time had to wait an excessive period of time for ‘extra’ supplies. They were not prepared with the thread and were making them during them workshop time. There were kids much younger than stipulated in the workshop and pushy parents who didn’t listen to the staff v asking them to sit around the side of the room which made the whole thing very chaotic. Next time I recommend being a little more prepared, have pre made packs with all owns required to avoid frustration and kids missing out. The museum itself is fantastic. The Egyptian exhibition is the best I’ve seen. Parking is very limited so catch public transport or be prepared to park elsewhere and walk in.

Great museum with amazing artifacts and staff. Free admission, and many cool technologies available to help visualise the history of an artefact. Definitely one of the better museums I've seen. Also had a cool Lego build (not sure why I decided to write that, but okay...)

Nice outlook. No service, all counter purchases, and go back to your table with a number type place. Beware the crisp chips that come with the salmon bagel: weird. The bagel had been sandwich pressed to death, so everything was hot, including the salad.

Pleasantly surprised by the Chau Chak Wing Museum! Super easy to get to and always has top notch exhibitions. With so many museums it seems you can’t take time to appreciate them all, but please do make your way to the Chau Chak Wing Museum. Take your time and experience everything they’ve got. You won’t be disappointed with your visit.

Awesome, decent sized museum with a good collection of mostly ancient Roman, Greek and Egyptian artifacts. There are convenient free lockers for you to securely store your belongings. My favourite gallery was definitely the mummies, they each had their own fascinating story. Wish they had an ancient Chinese gallery though. Overall a must visit especially since it's free!

A fantastic boutique museum with some truly unique exhibits. The beauty lies in the diversity of it's exhibitions - an interactive 3D exploration of an Egyptian mummy, a preserved 18th century cuttlefish or modernist art - pure joy!

A nice museum with a good collection of artefacts from different cultures. I attended a tour to the ancient Egyptian gallery with a very friendly curator and attended an object handling class too that was creative. Recommended for an informative nice outing. Didn't like the Cafe inside though , the staff was not accommodating and the coffee was hardly ok.

This museum is an absolute gem!! Nicely situated at Sydney University. Close to Broadway shopping centre and short walk to central station. I went with a friend on weekend expecting it to be busy and was relatively quiet. Amazing exhibitions ranging from all over the world and so many eras. Approximately took 2 hours to view all pieces in the museum. My favourite party by far was the Egyptian exhibition can’t believe they have these old sarcophagus (yes, I checked the spelling) sitting in this museum. And the best part about this whole experience was that the entry into the museum is FREE!!! Highly recommend to anyone, might be harder for parents with kids.

Absolutely fantastic - and it’s free! Really high quality exhibit. You could spend an hour or two looking at the displays and reading the detail. There’s also a good amount of video displays showing how the exhibits came to be. Nice cafe there too

Honestly, I love the exhibition of ancient Egyptian art as I’ve been a fan of the pharaoh ages since childhood. The only drawback of this museum I can think of is the display on the third floor ( same floor of the entrance) because the objects are not classified specifically by genres which seemed a little bit mix-up. Btw, the Lego version of Pompeii is incredible.
