The Mint is Sydney's oldest surviving public building, and is a heritage treasure in the heart of the city, with grounds and a library open to the public most weekdays. While it is not a functioning mint (the name refers to the site's historic use dating back to 1854 after gold was discovered in New South Wales), The Mint serves as an excellent venue space for functions, as well as commercial hire for corporate meetings and workshops. It is also the head office for Sydney Living Museums, and as such you will find a few displays throughout the site detailing the building's rich history. In the front building, there is a delicious cafe downstairs and a French-inspired restaurant upstairs, that are definitely worth a visit around lunchtime. For those fond of history, The Hyde Park Barracks Museum is located just next door, which operates as a Australian Convict museum for the general public, also offering group tours and education programs. Reception staff 10/10.

The Sydney Mint in Sydney, New South Wales, Australia, is the oldest public building in the Sydney central business district. Built between 1811 and 1816 as the southern wing of the Sydney Hospital, it was then known as the Rum Hospital. In 1854 a mint was established on the site with the hospital building used to house mint staff as well as providing a residence for the Deputy Mint Master. A coining factory was built at the rear. Both of these structures have exceptional heritage significance and have been associated with major events in the colonial history of New South Wales.

The beautiful historical building and yet still very well organized. I am loving its architecture, design and decoration. This is one of the best places for event, meeting or private meeting. Having both indoor and outdoor areas.

The royal mint building was listed as a cultural heritage. This old building was originally built as a hospital. The structure has an exceptional heritage significance.

This old building was originally built as a hospital. When gold was found in New South Wales, it become the first mint in Australia. After 1926, the mint was used by various government departments and planned to be demolished. Eventually the Royal Mint building was listed as cultural heritage alongside the Barracks. The building itself is very old therefore hot and humid in summer.

Despite being the oldest surviving public building in Sydney, there isn’t much to see apart from some displays, old safes and little architectural details. To make your visit worth it, I highly recommend taking the free tour with a volunteer. Keen and knowledgeable, he talked us through the history of not only the building, but the whole complex and also the history of Australian currency.

A mint museum is on Macquarie road. From the road you would see Barracks, Parliament House, Old Hospital and Library.

The volunteer guide standing outside gave us a fabulous free tour of the rum hospital and mint. The scale 3d models of the buildings were also very helpful. The guide explained that the gold sovereigns on display sell for around $800 each. We were also shown a coin press and incredible china. Fascinating. Recommend using a guide if one is available.

As a Sydney wedding photographer, I absolutely love working at this venue. From it's stunning internal courtyard to it's historical building you are guaranteed to get some truely beautiful wedding photos here. With both outdoor and wet weather options for your ceremony available, they have all bases covered. There are also many other incredible photo opportunities in the CBD or surround area if you feel like venturing out. Would highly recommend venue for your wedding!

Wasn’t what I was expecting. The displays were interesting, but there weren’t many of them. When I went, the machine making the coins wasn’t operating which detracted from the experience, as that was what my family most wanted to see. I had a sausage roll at the cafe which was quite nice. Friendly service, but not much to see. Wouldn’t bother visiting here in all honestly.

A convenient conference location in the CBD. Best times are Spring, Summer and Autumn. Not recommended during Winter, because of lack of heating and strong wind tunnels.

The Mint is one of our old world building, going back to the beginnings of Sydney. It's sandstone and beautifully presented and preserved. We saw the Ben Adler string quartet perform in an intimate setting. Amazing performance in a wonderful old world charm building.

I hired The Mint for our wedding ceremony and couldn’t be happier with the planning process, communication, management on the day and the overall experience we had. The courtyard is so beautiful and we were so grateful that they allow dogs on site to be a part of your day. Thank you to Rohanna, Myles, Rishi & the Mint team.

We had our wedding ceremony at the mint. The venue was so beautiful and the SLM Venues staff so great to deal with that we thought it warranted a review for any future couples considering this space. Our original wedding was cancelled by COVID and the original location and company was a nightmare to deal with. We reached out to SLM Venues (who manage The Mint) about another venue in their portfolio that wasn't available but they suggested The Mint - we hadn't even come across it as a wedding venue - it was perfect! The courtyard is STUNNING for a ceremony and having a wet weather back up on site included was amazing peace of mind. We communicated with Rebecca who was just the loveliest most helpful events contact for SLM, a real breath of fresh air after the hell we went through with out original venue. For any couples looking for a wedding location, I think The Mint is one of Sydneys best kept secrets!

As an historical building of great importance, the austerity of the Mint is a stark contrast to the nearby modern skyscrapers that flank Hyde Park and adorn the inner Sydney landscape. The courtyard of the Mint provides a quaint and romantic outdoor setting for weddings and other social affairs.

Interesting renovation to the mint. Very respectful of the history and heritage. It's nice to know that the location is still being used and kept maintained. Went through the offices as part of Sydney open tour. You have to book to join the tour during the open day so go there earlier to put your name down next year. The vault at the bullion cafe was cool too. Chubb lock was interesting to see such an old lock.

Massive disappointment, I've been collecting the uncirculated annual sets since they began making them, this year it is a cheap, weird, plastic case shoved in a cardboard sleave that is too tight, and a strange, nonsensical size, that ruins the value of the overall set, why? So ugly and doesn't fit with over 20 years of collecting, don't both calling customer service, they don't know why the change, awful experience, such a disappointment.

Went there for the open Day with my wife and son, the memorabilia and artefacts they had on display were very interesting and I can't say enough how friendly and knowledgeable the staff are there explaining in detail everything they had on display my son had so many questions and they were extremely happy to answer them. We pre purchased tickets and got straight in

Free display on the backside of the building is a great place to briefly learn about the history and evolution of Sydney without spending a penny! There are also some original artefacts on display from the building's former life as well as those from buildings nearby. Great place to spend about 30 minutes and learn a lot more about Sydney.
